Luchadores Review - Financial District - New York - The Infatuation

"Whether you don’t want to miss the coming attractions before your movie at iPic, or you need a quick bite before sightseeing on the Circle Line, Luchadores is the best counter-service option in the Seaport. This Mexican spot serves five meat options for your burritos and tacos, like carne asada that we prefer in burrito form, or panko-crusted fish that makes for the best taco, as well as chips with some very good, chunky guacamole. There are a few picnic tables in the courtyard out front, but the best thing to do here is get your food to go, and eat it on Pier 17 across the street." - Matt Tervooren

Honest lengthy review. Cool, chill bar you want to go to with a small town vibe (iykyk). I absolutely love the luchador theme!! Very unique, wish the spot was closer to Southtown. However if it was it would not be able to offer neighborhood bar prices on drinks. Mixed crowd leaning towards mature. The had a live band and a DJ on a Saturday. The band had a small town feel and good vibes. We were with a party that had tickets for drinks and what we could purchase was not made very clear. Perhaps it was a lack of communication on the party's side. When going to redeem the ticket for a beer, we wanted a Michelob ultra. We were told Michelob was an import and the tickets were only good for domestic beers. I believe this is a simple misunderstanding and the establishment should research and understand imports are beers crafted/sourced from another country maybe even state. Michelob Ultras are part of Anheuser which is not an import, they are the same makers of Budweiser, Bud light, Bud Ice etc. For a time and every now and then it is can be considered an premium beer but not import. We were also given different tickets that were used for well drinks. I choose a bourbon and coke. My drink was ok, no umff👊. They have a great outdoor area, unfortunately we didn't go out. Removing the wall sperating the outdoor area & making a service bar in between would be an great addition! I also believe it needs a detailed cleaning with fresh mops. There was a lingering odor. Other than that I would definitely return! The drink prices are good, the area was quite. Parking was limited next to the bar but there is an area across the street. Posting signs could help this.

This was my 2nd visit. On my 1st visit they got me with the dos xx dressed with camoy & tajin. 😋 I like how the place is small & welcoming. Nice place to beat the heat, their ac is on full blast. Nice & chill environment, older crowd. 2nd visit they had a live band playing 80s music. I was impressed by the band. They have a small dance floor & parking is limited. I overheard some folks saying the restrooms could use a little freshening up – the smell of urine was a bit noticeable. Hopefully, they can get that sorted out quickly. I didn’t see them serving any food that night but they are close to a whataburger. Pretty great place to chill with friends.

Visited this bar while in San Antonio. The vibe is a little mixed—some of the crowd felt a bit sketchy—but the service more than made up for it. The bartender (didn’t catch his name—buff guy) was super friendly and really on top of things. Great service and made me feel welcome. If you’re in the area and want a solid drink with great bartending, it’s worth a stop.

Google
I really like this place. There’s karaoke almost every day. The only thing is I would avoid coming on a Thursday, the karaoke Dj is real sweet but she doesn’t know how to let other people have the light. My wife really wanted to sing but the karaoke Dj kept singing over people during their songs! Like just overpowering them during what should have been their moment. It really bothered my wife and I so we just left. Of course we don’t want to start a problem, it’s just karaoke but there are better days to come for good karaoke. Bartenders are super sweet, owners are real sweet.

Google
Love El Luch! They look out for people the way no other bar will. The best bar in the spirits of Southtown and the karaoke and stand up is beyond any bar! They allow dogs and accept them no matter the breed so in my mind they are one of the best bars in town. Make your mind up, visit them, you won’t be disappointed ☺️.

Google
Fun filled place, you'll love it here!! Friendly staff. Great live music and Dj. Steak n shrimp with loaded baked potato was amazing!

Google
The bar is amazing and very welcoming! Service is A+. Karaoke is so much fun it's unfortunate that the karaoke hostesses rather hear themselves sing than allowing the guest to sing! It's a shame that the guy that was hosting karaoke this Thursday (6/5/25) was skipping guest and scratching them off the list just to bring in his "favorites"! Guest want to hear the other guest sing not the host! There are always plenty of patrons signing up just to sing!

Google
Cool place, fun atmosphere and always a good time! Doesn’t matter if your there for karaoke a live band or dj you’ll have a good time!

Yelp
El Luchador, located just south of Southtown, is a vibrant spot that celebrates lucha libre culture. The décor and artwork pay tribute to legendary luchadores like El Santo and Mil Mascaras, making it a haven for both locals and lucha enthusiasts. Whether you're in the mood for a craft cocktail or a cold beer, El Luchador offers a great atmosphere to unwind. The venue is known for its eclectic mix of DJs, featuring everything from metal tribute nights to Morrissey and The Smiths disco nights. Recently, El Luchador has revamped its cocktail menu, introducing drinks inspired by El Santo's iconic movies. This themed menu adds an extra layer of charm and uniqueness to the bar, enhancing the overall experience. If you're looking for a place with character, good drinks, and a lively music scene, El Luchador is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
I did not try the food, but the service was great. Mostly the atmosphere is very interesting with the luchador memorabilia! I expected it to be a Latino bar but rock music was playing.

Yelp
Fun bar close to downtown. Music got the group up and dancing and atmosphere was very cultural. i had a top shelf margarita which was well made and smooth. service was great and lots of seating. i would come back here to hang out.

Clayton R.

Yelp
Bartender wouldn't serve me because she has personal issues. Wouldn't serve me even after telling her I would tip her well at the ends because why would I tip 2 dollars on my card for one beer when I can tip 50-100 after my night in cash. Service really did sucked bar is great place fun but bartender said she only makes 2 dollars an hour and since I wasn't tipping she refused to serve me. Knowing I told her I'd tip at the end. Worst experience I've ever had at a bar. Will not be going back

Yelp
The experience was great. The bar was very nostalgic and brought back memories of wrestling and wrestlers. Go visit and have a good time!

Don W.

Yelp
What a cool place! Brought back so many memories of my youth with all of wrestling paraphernalia around. The bartender and staff as well as the customers we met were super friendly! We will be back!

Yelp
As one of San Antonio's only truly themed bars El Luchador is a must for any fan of Luchadors, Lucha Libre or wrestling! The wall of masks is an awesome centerpiece! They make no qualms about being south of Southtown and a true neighborhood dive bar in the best kind of way. I love it so much I did an episode on them for my podcast! Go listen to the story of how they got started! Cold beer, some craft cocktails and excellent beer/shot combos for the boozer on a budget. Always friendly and knowledgeable bartenders. El Luchador is a must anytime in SA or if you find yourself well - south of Southtown!

Yelp
Not a bad little place at all. $3.50 for a domestic bottle. Got to watch the last 15 minutes of the Spurs losing effort. Oh well. I would call it a borderline dive bar, not totally dive. Takes a little while to get service with only one bartender. Go there and give it a try

Yelp
Been by this place a few times and had on my list for awhile. Came on Thursday, August 7 with a friend. This is my type of place that you could grab a drink in the middle of the day to forget about the sunny heat outside. The bartender was sweet and got us a $6 combo of Lone Star with a house bourbon. Found a table near the dance floor and watched wrestling on the big screen as the band, Lonestar *something*, set up. Enjoyed watching the craziness of wrestling that I have not seen since the 7th grade. Then the band started up with George Straight. Thought it was going to be all country until they started Dave Matthew's Band, "So Much to Say". The 3-piece was solid and the guitarist broke his string early in the song, but still was a great cover. Glad to hear live music again! If in the area and looking for a local watering hole, then check this place out.

Yelp
Great place to chill and have a couple of drinks. Always my go to place. Service is always welcoming and fast.

Yelp
First, I have that I've had this bar booked marked for some time. For one reason or another we ended up always not being able to stop by. So this time- we did it! YES!!! I had checked out the pictures posted on yelp so I was ready. We get there and find a cool, cool place (but not temperature wise though). When we got there the band was setting up. We belly up to the band and ask for a drink menu. Nope. No drink menu. Wait. What? No drink menus- porque???? I want that fancy drink that's posted. Nope they haven't had a fancy drink menu for some time. No frozen drinks. How sad. But that's why I booked marked you?!? This is the reason for the 3 stars Well we did a one and done. It's a bar and not a mixology place so just know that. Neighborhood can be a bit sketchy and parking is limited. Go check it out the old Luchador posters and movie posters.

Yelp
Happy hour at this place is the best as they have great combos! They also have a great drink called the preparada that's built like a fruit cup (plus) with alcohol (big plus) they also have some candy and a straw with Lucas! This is the best drink for hot days. They now have bingo nights (Loteria)! I recently won a Luchador shirt and it's awesome and comfortable. Perfect selection of beers too try the craft beer beers such as four corners! You're guaranteed to love these beers and the whole place! Parking is right next to bar and they often have people cooking sausage wraps, elote and turkey legs next to the place as well.

Yelp
Luchador has become a staple in my late night adventures ! I love ending the night here with tacos on the patio karaoke blasting inside and delicious drink combos keeping us watered. I love the vibe at this bar and truly appreciate the open doors and welcoming staff.

Yelp
This place is pretty awesome! A little further south in Southtown, but well worth the bike ride. I don't see any taps--that would put this place up top. People complain about a/c, but it's not bad half-crowded. Friendly staff, badass decor! If you want to show someone a fun bar in SA, this should be a stop!

Yelp
Found out about this bar today. Was a little shocked at first because I drive by the location quite often and never noticed the building. A friend took me there because of karaoke (i'm not the one that sings). Had a great time! Great service at bar, food in the back is amazing! Nice wrestling theme, and it had nice seating areas. Drinks were great all evening. There was a much bigger crowd than I had expected. Great variety of ages and backgrounds. Time there seemed to fly by. Great dj for the karaoke taking place that night, and crowd was supportive of everyone. Now that I know it exists, I definitely plan to return.

Yelp
I've visited Luchador three times, but this is the first review. I LOVE the look and feel this little bar. Every time I leave, I feel like going home to watch Nacho Libre. I wish the location were closer to my house, but I can't knock them for that. Each time I've visited, there has been a different bartender, so I haven't been able to build a rapport or much of a relationship with any single bartender yet. I started going because of their Loteria Game night (held every other Tuesday), and now it's a standing appointment on my calendar. One tabla per person, and it's free to play. Prizes include Luchador Bar T-shirts, tickets to local events, a few bucks off your bar tab, etc. Their beer selection is pretty impressive for a smaller bar. Lots of craft beers, but definitely more IPAs and Crapft beers than my preferred stouts and porters. All in all, El Luchador is a low key way to relax after a busy day at work.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool little spot in southtown. Definately a dive bar. Bartender was very nice. Not a lot of people were there. Tons of cool luchador are and ambiance. Place is big enough for large groups and friendly gatherings.

Eliab G.

Yelp
Let's go back to the late 80's and early 90's by the wrestling themed ambience! Awesome place to get out of the sun!!! Friendly staff, locals are great as well. Restrooms need a little of TLC. Plenty of drinks to choose from. Prices are great!
google avatar

Abe Q.

Yelp
Good drinks, better atmosphere. The theme of the bar is well-established! Have seen the bar from very humble beginnings to becoming a staple of San Anto's south side!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic dive bar. The Friday night I went there to meet with my friends. They had a burlesque show, so there was a $5 covercharge, which I'm not a huge fan of, I understand why they charged it, but I wasn't there for the burlesque and I did ordered drinks. But it's no big deal. The bar itself is pretty small, so most of the people were hanging out in the back patio. There is a dance floor with a DJ. Overall, if I had more time next time I'm in town, I would love to spend more time here.
google avatar

Ellen E.

Yelp
Man this is a fun bar! We were in the area and happened to accidentally find this bar. There was a $5 cover because there was a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band (and other bands) playing that night. Once inside- our group took advantage of the cheap beer/shot combos. $5.50 for a tallboy lone star, or tecate (maybe other options but I don't remember) and a shot of whiskey or tequila. The bar was very full but everyone was nice and we were able to wrangle up a few stray chairs for our group to sit. They also had an outdoor area that had an art vendor out there for a little bit. The music was great, drink specials on point, the bartender took great care of us, and I loved the theme. What a great little local bar with huge personality.
google avatar

Karen D.

Yelp
A place worth checking out! Unique environment with a pretty awesome variety of music on different days! The food trucks food is also very tasty! You won't regret your visit!

Yelp
Good music! fun place for all ages. this place is the CHEERS of San Antonio. after a while everybody knows your name

Yelp
I remember hearing about El Luchador Bar through the grapevine awhile back. And a Mexican Wrestling themed place in the city seemed like a novel and original idea. Lucha Libre is campy anyway, so by default it would fit perfectly in the already colorful Southside. Needless to say like a chair to my back it pains me to say my experience here was underwhelming. Firstly, depending on the time you come here parking can a bit hairy. There's parking across the street but it would be better if they organized the lot to maximize space. Before I even enter a business I mentally pull out my checklist. Cool neon "El Luchador" sign in the front. Check. Bar walls with Mexican Wrestling masks. Check. The theme of Lucha Libre is throughout the place via a huge Mil Mascaras mural and glass display cases with plastic luchadores. Check. So what could've possibly been missing from my experience? I feel that the place was lacking a cohesive vibe or personal touch. This begins at the door, the bar, by staff and the layout of the place. Since the entrance leads you into the traffic of the bar it feels like you're caught against a turnbuckle, so to speak. The result is a scene that seems busy and frenzied. As far as their bar, which is the centerpiece of the place I wish there were prominent visuals to display what is being served. Other than a card with their drink selection written in small print, I resorted to the guessing game. I did settle on a beer served in a can, but I would've preferred it on tap. The scene is a mixed bag of professionals, bike riding hipsters, fashionistas and curious neighborhood locals. Unfortunately for me that night I got caught in the midst of a "Man Bun- Cobra Clutch!"; with some dude who had no concept of personal space. After awhile I had to go onto their patio, as it was getting way too claustrophobic inside. While I do appreciate what "El Luchador Bar" is trying to accomplish it feels like a cohesive vibe is still missing. Is it a bar that happens to have a luchador concept or is it the other way around? In other words if I took away the lucha libre theme would it still be a cool place to hangout? I'm not sure. But then again you're either a mask away from being "Blue Demon" or "Nacho Libre"...

Eliana d.

Yelp
El Luchador, a place that you can walk in and feel right at home, where you can enjoy anything from a Karoke night to a trivia night or a live band! You can hear a regular singing their go to Karoke song and dance the night away to the beats of a local DJ! The drinks, to the decor to most important the bartenders that take care of you! If you ever pop in when DJ is working you are sure to get taken care of and get some of the most amazing cocktails! My personal favorite the Gritona cocktail! Which has an amazing blend of flavors and a refreshing hint of cucumber mixed with Tajin! Recommend stopping by on. Tuesday night to support Dragonfly Karoke and hear that amazing lady sing as she provides a loving ambiance for all to participate. Celebrate a birthday, anniversary promotion or just a end to a hard day and you will be sure to leave this place feeling great! Lastly if you want some the best food that San Antonio has to offer, make sure you try The Grill delicious creations of love that he has for his guest! You will not regret your visit to this bar, and may become its next regular! You will meet some amazing people along the way!

Yelp
Even the roaches love this place.... #divebar. Good band though.. I don't know about the prices as my brother is paying as that is always a good thing.. 3 stars for my brother..

Yelp
Such a fun place on the south side of San Antonio. The atmosphere is very laid back and chill. The decor is super cool and the drinks are delish! They host fun events that usual get packed fast!

Yelp
Always a good time at Luchador! Seems as all types of folks are there and all types of folks feel welcomed! Bartenders are always attentive and moving non stop.

Yelp
Cute bar with a great theme, nice little dive! Great beer selection and a kitchen in the back; the burger was fantastic! The service was great, good parking, and all-around fun little spot.

Yelp

Shitty service.. why?? Don't offer something you can't deliver on.. Lol What a joke of a bar

Yelp
Unique & neat bar. Great customer service & the drinks are phenomenal! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Nice small dive bar, it was me and my husbands first time here and we had a good time watching the spurs game. We came on a Friday night around 7 and it was pretty dead but we didn't mind, later that night it started to get packed as there was a band setting up to play. They have a small patio in the back. The bar is also dog friendly. We loved how it was decorated. I'm also glad the women's restroom had 3 stalls so I never had to wait to use the restroom. The bartender was friendly and made the margarita on the rocks delicious. Come here a little early to get a parking spot because their parking lot is a little small. I suggest to Uber if coming a little later. Definitely will come back!

Yelp
1st time and loved it laid back on the early hrs an seems to get lit on the later hrs

Yelp
Viva los Luchadores! If you say you don't like this bar, you might get body slammed. This place is a cool new bar on the south of the Southside. The art here is amazing- it's all Mexican Wrestling themed, of course! The infamous wrestler, Santo has his posters everywhere here. Santo is probably the most famous Mexican wrestler of all time- he was in so many movies, and beat up vampires, werewolves, and even aliens. The bar has a bunch of great masks from many of my favorite wrestlers! This place is really on to something. There's a small dance floor, with a DJ spinning records that made me want to bust out an aerial spin move on the ropes. However, their A/C didn't seem to be working when we went, and it was hot. The bartenders were out of Lone Star, and the line to get a drink was taking forever. They don't have anything on tap. It seems that every great new place always has a few kinks in the ropes at first, but hopefully they'll get that straightened out. Parking is easy, with lots of back streets and lots across the street. Unfortunately, they don't have actual Mexican wrestling at this time, and I've heard that they won't give a discount if you show up dressed as a Mexican Wrestler.
google avatar

Clare J.

Yelp
Such a fun southside spot! Great drinks, clean, comfy atmosphere with fun decor! $5 beer+shot combos and the best margarita in town- all fresh no icky mixes. I always have a great time here- bartenders are wonderful, especially Freddie! El luchador is quickly turning into my favorite Sa spot!
google avatar

Pete A.

Yelp
Nice, dark bar with cheap drinks, cheap beer, and no one gives a damn who you are. Sometimes there is some stuff going on, mostly for under 30 crowd. But, they don't give a rat's ass either, so come in, relax a little.
google avatar

Maxine C.

Yelp
So driving in and parking felt skeptical and probably wouldn't of gone in if i wasnt meeting a friend and doing book club. But i was happy i let go of my initial weariness. Once you are in its lively and has great deco/ambiance. My friend recommended the micheladas so we rocked some micheladas. They were excellent. Wish they had Negra Modelo but modelo is still pretty good. Will i go back? Yes. Will i recommend to others? Yes but ill think about it because i don't want everyone to know about this little gem. So advice.... just walk through the door. Do it.
google avatar

Anna V.

Yelp
Luchador mask collection over the bar is pretty legit. Drinks were good and bar service was quick. Im just left wondering what type of bar this is. The luchador theme is cool but im stuck thinking its just a gimmick cause the dj was all over the place with music selection. DJ needs to focus on particular genre. Spot is new so I'm sure upgrades or accommodations are coming soon. Would highly suggest checking it out.
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
Second time here and beers are still warm. Don't know if there always warm or their cooler is broken. Didn't know if I was having soup or a beer. Other than that great dive bar. Go support your neighborhood bars.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Friendly staff, cold beer, clean place and great music. I'll be coming back. For sure!
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Favorite dive bar for sure! Great events like Tuesday night loteria, trivia nights and they even host luchas which is always so much fun! Good drink specials and outdoor patio.
google avatar

Feedus W.

Yelp
Let's talk about how awesome this little dive bar is! Toni is a super friendly, funny, knowledgeable bartender. I'm from Los Angeles, & she & a local named Victor made my visit to Luchador a truly memorable one. I ordered a local tequila on the rocks, & as I finished my drink, they kept me company. I was no longer the outsider from LA within minutes. Strongly recommend this dope spot.
google avatar

Mitchell H.

Yelp
Been going here since it opened. They are the most innovative bar in Southtown. Just spent the day listening to 10 bands at the music fest. Talent was off the charts! I would say, although it's a dive bar, the most innovative bar in Southtown! However, you have to catch it on the right nights!

Hailey C.

Yelp
10000000/10 experience! the service was amazing, my friends & I had an excellent time meeting new people and expanding our knowledge of San Antonio in this little bar. :)
google avatar

Liz D.

Yelp
Great little gem in the "south of Southtown" area ;) cheap drinks, they host trivia nights, and have themed parties. Go and check it out some time!
google avatar

William G.

Yelp
Just recently this place added a small food menu holly shit it is off the hook. This place kicks burgerteca ass! Try the brisket grill cheese with fries. Man it kicked ass! Also had the burger forgot the name but it was way better than that other place. For this being such a small spot that kick ass!!!!!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Such a nice place to grab a drink with friends. This place has a friendly staff, and a good selection of drinks including craft beer. It's a small space, definite neighborhood bar vibe, pleasantly dive-y. The only downside: it's a bit warm and stuffy (which gets exponentially most uncomfortable as it gets more crowded), and it's very echo-y so conversation comes in the shouted variety. Nevertheless, good prices and fast, attentive service win here by a three count. Cheers!
google avatar

Rumaldo D.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood for an event and I decided I'd like to check it out for a post-event cocktail. It's in a hip neighborhood but parking is scarce because of it's popularity. We parked at the mechanic shop across the street. There was a crew making BBQ tacos outside. The bar is very cool. The luchador theme is all over and is very well done. I have to admit the 12 year old boy in me really wanted to play with the toy luchadores and rings near the door. The octogon set up was particularly cool. The rows of luchador mascaras behind the bar are all colorful and awesome. It's a full, well stocked bar with specials, beer and a shot were all well priced. There was a DJ that night and it was a little loud, but the music was good. I would have appreciated lounge like seating rather than just metal bar stools, but this place has a very hip vibe that's uniquely San Antonio.
