Eater Receives Four Nominations for 2024 James Beard Media Awards | Eater

"A small, family-run oyster farm on the Georgia coast operated by Earnest McIntosh Sr. and his relatives, it evolved from a crabbing business into one of the state’s last oyster farms and has been in the family for nearly 50 years. The operation supplies oysters to top restaurants and is notable for its generational knowledge and traditional, hands-on farming methods; those human and historical elements are the focus of an Eater Video episode that follows the family’s daily work and long-standing role in the regional shellfish industry." - Eater Staff

How the McIntosh Family Runs One of Georgia’s Last Oyster Farms | Eater

"A multigenerational, family-run oyster farm in Harris Neck, operating since 1978 with nearly 50 years of experience. Founded by Earnest McIntosh Sr. after beginning in his father’s crabbing business, the operation now includes his son—who serves as vice president and works on the boat harvesting—and his daughter, the executive administrator who handles sales to local restaurants. They harvest and distribute roughly 2,000–3,000 oysters a day, producing three distinct varieties (a wild single, a farmed single, and a cluster) that all grow in the same waters, and emphasize hands-on stewardship and supplying area restaurants with fresh oysters." - Avery Dalal

"A family-owned shellfish company out of Townsend, Georgia, E.L. McIntosh and Son have harvested oysters for generations and are now cultivating their own oysters with support from a UGA Extension Marine and a Georgia Sea grant, making them one of the small, local fishermen Brock and Williams are using to bring Savannah’s flavors to Husk’s menu." - Beth McKibben
