The 13 Best Peruvian Restaurants in Miami - Eater Miami

"Peruvian doesn’t get much more authentic than this West Kendall hole-in-the-wall. The small space is home to less than ten tables and has a menu featuring daily specials for under $13. These deals include all the fan favorites like lomo saltado, aji de gallina, chaufa, and ceviche — with serving sizes large enough to last more than one meal." - Amber Love Bond

Coming here was the first time for me, my son was visiting and he had asked to go here. We were greeted as we entered, and seated with menus right away. The atmosphere felt very comfortable and I love the colors. The restaurant was small, and there was not much to the place. Parking was easy. This place was located towards the end of a strip mall next to a subway and it wasn’t too busy at the time we got here. Our food came out quickly, and was very fresh with a lot of flavor. They provided a jalapeño sauce that was spicy and amazing. And they gave us fresh bead before our meal. My son knew right away that he wanted the ceviche and ordered it. I had the chicken and my husband had the steak. All of our food was cooked perfect, my chicken may have been a little overcooked but it tasted great. Prices were very reasonable, and they gave us a lot of food and with a friendly service. I will definitely return.

The food was delicious, and the service always pleasant. The Lomo saltado very good.

First time visiting, no one really spoke to us at first. Then Alicia approached us, she was our server & was the nicest and most patient person. She was so accommodating. We only speak a little Spanish and we communicated with her easily. The atmosphere was pleasant with good music playing in the background. Other patrons were not friendly, but we were really only there for the food. It was delicious, hot in temperature, on the expensive side, but worth it and fresh!! Felt like we were eating at someone’s home, the food was so good!! It was a wonderful treat for my husband & I. We truly will make this a place we visit again. We ate: Chaufa de Carne fried rice, Ceviche - Leche de Tigre, Picante de Camarones in hot garlic sauce. (Not sure if we spelled it right, but we left pictures of our meals.)

Google
This place has by far the BEST PERUVIAN FOOD! The service here was excellent. The food was just so good. The seasoning and flavors were a perfect combination. The food wasn’t greasy like other restaurants. The atmosphere was relaxing, clean, and cozy. This is a MUST VISIT restaurant, great for family and friends.

Try the ceviche mixto. Fresh and delicious. I ordered extra camote. My husband tried their fried snapper and chicha morada. Both were great! The snapper was perfect. The service was wonderful. The staff was warm, friendly and very attentive. Will definitely come back to try their lomo and tallarines.

Yelp
Great food and service! The lomo saltado is a must. One of the best authentic peruvian places in Miami. Our host Joana was friendly and helpful!

Yelp

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant many times over the years since it's by our office. Today was the last time. The food is mediocre at best. The bread was old, the white rice wasn't cooked properly, and the chicken was dry. There is also a credit card fee regardless if you're paying cash. Very disappointing

Yelp
Our family has dined here several times. The portions are good and the food is flavorful. We just picked up our carry-out order and all our items were packed nicely and the service was good. The food tasted somewhat basic and home- made but the quality of the meat in our Lomo Salteado wasn't that great and the french fries were not the ones typically used in that dish. Overall an average experience for the price. We would go back.

Yelp
This place use to be good, unfortunately it has taken a turn for the worse. They have increased their prices significantly and are even charging "container fees" for the to go boxes. I ordered from them about a month ago and was surprised at the higher cost when I went to pick up the food. The food was just ok but I hoped it was just a one off. I decided to give them Another chance today despite the higher prices, ok food and ridiculous fees since they are close to home. I ordered one of their most popular dishes the lomo saltado again and this time it was--terrible. It had no flavor at all. To top that off the rice had no salt. It appears they forgot to add salt when cooking the rice. Needless to say this was my final order I will not be returning and will take my business elsewhere when I'm in the mood for Peruvian food.Lomo Saltado

Yelp
What can I say s our the Peruvian Cuisine. I love it. This place did not disappoint. Small place, a little short of staff at least during lunch rush. We started with the Causa Appetizer, first time ever ordering this dish. Made with a bottom layer of mash potatoes, a tuna mixture with onions and probably mayonnaise and a top layer of mash potatoes. Throw on some white cream (not sure what it is). Our entre was beef soup, look at the size of the bowl. It was pretty big. The soup had vegetables, and big chunks of beef and lots of delicious broth. Overall it was a very good casual dining experience.

Yelp
I love Peruvian cuisine and love this little gem! Their lomo saltado, tacu tacu are YUMMY. The price is right and the portion size are enough to feed 2 people, but you won't want to share lol

Yelp
Let me start by sayin I love Peruvian food. This was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I ordered delivery for my favorite Peruvian dish lomo Saltado. The beef was decent it was not too chewy but it lacked in onions and barely had any tomatoes. Potatoes were soggy as well. Rice was not hot and looked like it was a day old. The bread was definitely old and it was reheated and hard as a rock. Considering I paid over $18 per dish (ordered for the entire family and paid over $110) I was very disappointed. Only compliment I can give was that their verde sauce was good. Very unfortunate as I feel they lacked attention to detail which I expect from an establishment that charges nearly $19 for a dish.

Yelp
Great food in this place. La atención es especial , sobre todo una muchacha colombiana muy simpática

Yelp
I used to love this place. I walked in today to have a quick lunch and as I was finish eating there was a roach crawling down the wall. The most disgusting thing ever , I told the waitress and she didn't even care. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL. The quality has GONE DOWN.

Kristine F.

Yelp
This is a ceviche i ordered, expecting it to be fresh fish just like last time, and unfortunately i am very disappointed because it's very hard fish to chew on, the sturdiness of it made it unappetizing. Never did i have a problem ordering from here, my family orders from here all the time but the last few times it's been the same sad disappointing dish. Not worth the $15 if you ask me.

Mark G.

Yelp
Ordered a Arroz con Mariscos (Seafood fried rice) was charged $24 after taxes. When I got home I realized they had given me yellow rice with 7 pieces of shrimp. No sort of seafood besides the shrimp, what a scam. Rice was also not great. I've been disappointed by the this same place before several years ago, tried giving them a second chance. Rest assured they will not be getting a third.

Dory D.

Yelp
Don't eat the ceviche there! They advertise corvina at higher price, but serve you a cheap fish, probably Swai. As chewy as gum, gross!

Is M.

Yelp

Yelp
Came here for a great lunch and left so full. This restaurant is down the street from work so it's very convenient. The place is bigger than the impression it gives off from the outside and is self seating. Being that I have a crush on Peruvian food I knew which direction I wanted to take. I looked over the menu and saw they had pollo saltado. Love these dish so ordering was fast. While we waited we had fresh hot rolls with one of my favorite sauces, the green sauce. It was spicy and way better then just slapping some butter on it. When our dishes finally arrived I had built up a nice hunger and looked forward to chowing down. The dish winded up being good but my chicken was a little dry and I could've used more sauce. I'm a sauce person though so it may just have been me. My fries were still crunchy, rice perfectly cooked and the grilled onions and tomatoes went well. Altogether I did enjoy my lunch dish and would definitely come back. My only complaint is that they took a little longer then I would've liked to bring our bill (I was on my lunch break)but still the food was delicious.

Yelp
Awful awful place do not recommend to anyone who values their time and can't spend 4 hours for food for two people I understand the delay if you are tending to a village with amazing food which obviously was not the case , bad food 4 hours after the wait first and last time coming here
google avatar

Yelp
Very good experience . Food is fresh and very tasty . The servers are professional. My family is ordering food frequently too.

Yelp
Small restaurant with lots of flavor, friendly staff, and a great lunch special. I go here at least one or twice a month for lunch. I recommend any dish in their lunch menu but their chicken Saltado is my go to every time.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
When I went to pick up my food the restaurant smelled VERY fishy. I ordered the jalea mixta and although it was ok while eating it, I ended up getting sick. The fishy smell when I went to pick up my order should have been a red flag. My husband had the Lomo saltado and enjoyed it, didn't get sick. But I was sick an entire week from that one meal. Never again.
google avatar

Yelp
The food it's great; they need to improve in their customer service because when you order it's a small place so it should not take to long to get the service
google avatar

Yelp
Really great spot for some Peruvian food. I grew up coming to this restaurant and have tried a lot of their menu. The service is also quite fast and everyone is really nice and patient. The papa a la huancaina is really good and has that slight spice and kick to it. The other highlights are the chaufa, lomo saltado, and chupe de camarones. The chaufa is super tasty and really large portion. The chupe is also good with a lot of cheese cubes and also a large portion. The limo saltado and bistec a lo pobre are full of sazón with a good quantity of meat and sides. Definitely end the meal with suspiro limeño - it's super sweet so I can only have half in one sitting but it's so tasty and rounds of the meal great.

Yelp
Went to this place about 3 months ago with my sister food was good and portions were big, so I decided to go back yesterday with hubby and daughters . Something has to have changed, owner, chef something . All the cebiches were fishy a sign that they are not fresh, we were asked if mild, or hot . We said hot. No heat in them we also ordered a large jalea I have post the pick for u to see what it looked like when I complained it was nothing on the plate n they added some more, the jalea was also fishy and salty.... never going back. What a shame the first time it was good....the onions we had taken to put in ceviche before they added more to jalea.

Yelp
This place is so awesome. It's a whole in the wall, but truly consistent and amazing food. Get their estofado de pollo, so wholesome and flavorful. Their service is so warm and amazing. Def a peaceful place to enjoy a meal with your loved one. The soup is also great. All their food is delicious!
google avatar

Elisabeth T.

Yelp
My favorite Peruvian joint so far. I love the mix ceviche here. The sauce is tangy and made just how I like it. Portion is good too. Macho pescado is delicious. You must try the bavarios dessert here. It's so fluffy! I can eat the whole dessert all by myself. Yes, I am a sucker for delicious desserts. Service was excellent. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Recommended this place to all my friends, last two that went had a bad experience, food smelled like old grease , waiter didn't even bother why she won't eat it , juice water down , etc Shane in me for recommend it , no more

Yelp
This food is very amazing good taste we have been coming here for a long time and the renovated the place and looks fantastic great customer service
google avatar

Marielos M.

Yelp
We have coming here for over 13 years... great food and service. This is the best Peruvian restaurant in Kendall. It's extremely authentic.

Reginald A.

Yelp
2 stars for flavor but the price to quality is not there. A lomo saltado with meat that's cut along the grain & of the lowest quality beef was very disappointing. Quantity was also not the amount one normally sees at a Peruvian restaurant of this type, tiniest portion of salsa picante I've ever seen. Service was adequate especially since most of the business was via take out. Defininetly could do better with a little more effort
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. Always go to eat with my husband. Everything on the menu is recommended.
google avatar

PRISCILA R.

Yelp
I ordered food to go a few days ago. My husband picked it up and said the restaurant layout is a little disorganized/confusing. You weren't sure where the register was and the tables were kind of all over the place. The food was good. I ordered a bistec a lo pobre which was nicely cooked and tasty. My husband ordered a pork chop which he said was really good but wished was a little bit bigger. We also had a side of beans which I thought were pretty good and I'm usually picky about my beans. I didn't give this 4 stars because we ordered tostones for $3.50 and were clearly frozen. I feel like they're so simple to make fresh and especially if you intend on charging $3.50 for them... Overall we were both happy with the taste of the food and will definitely visit it again.

Yelp
I go to El Meson del Paraiso at least once a week. I love their lunch and dinner specials, which comes with your choice of soda or glass of vino. My go to is the Ceviche de Pescado. They don't hold back on the portions either. It is served with peruvian corn (yum), sweet potato and cancha. I also love the Arroz de Marisco. It is this angelic rice filled with octopus, clams, shrimp, and calamari. I can honestly eat the whole plate, but I shared both plates with my parental unit. Oh I can't forget the bread, while you wait they serve a little basket of bread. Now I am not sure where they get them from, but this last basket was amazing! spread some butter and dip it in that green, spicy, cream sauce and you will want to have the whole basket. The servers are always great and really welcoming. I hope they will update the decor (it needs a little make over), but other than that I will be there next week!
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
This was my go to spot for Peruvian food. I don't know if they changed owners or chef, but this place has gone downhill. I would order Chupe De Camarón - and if you eat this then you know it's kinda creamy. I just ordered one today and it was as if the soup was made with only water. Like I was eating un aguadito. Didn't even eat it. Oh, and the bread roll they usually give you is good...i open the bag to find a smushy piece of bread full of sesame seeds. I'm good.. I'll pass on this place from now on!
google avatar

Melissa Z.

Yelp
I went with my family for a Sunday lunch and asked for their specials. The waitress was really great about making suggestions and we ordered a trio of arroz con mariscos, ceviche, and jalea mixta which is a side of fried seafood. The food was very fresh and generous portions that could easily be shared between 2-3 people. The special even came with a glass of complimentary wine. At the end, we ordered a traditional dessert called bavarois de guindones, which consists of meringue, plums and a sweet caramel sauce. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking to enjoy fresh and traditional Peruvian food at great prices and with excellent quick service.

Yelp
We went there last night, tired and hungry after some holiday shopping. This place is easy to spot in the plaza w a Publix, facing the street. We didn't expect much but were warmed by the radiant smile of the waitress. Or is she the owner? She is so helpful, efficient and hard working, busy stacking up her plates and stuff while keeping an eye out for our needs. The Jalea Mixta is a large plateful. We like how the onion and corn with vinegar are served on the side instead of under the fried food as in some places, which can make the food soggy. The lomo saltado is flavorful, though it can use a better cut of beef. The waitress is almost psychic. We want a spoon to scoop up the sauce and the next minute she was here offering us one. Food was brought out fast, service extremely friendly, food was delicious but not outstanding, reasonable price. More than fit the bill for a good neighborhood restaurant.
google avatar

Bonnie C.

Yelp
This review is based solely on service, not the food. I placed at order at this location on Eat24 and when I got to the restaurant they said they had no idea what I was talking about. I showed them the order and the receipt for payment and they still could care less. Supposedly the gentleman I spoke to was the owner and he said they couldn't do anything about it. As far as I know a restaurant has to sign up to use Eat24, so how can they not know? Never again!
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Im giving this place 3 stars because the food is good and inexpensive. I went in at 8:20 and was told they are closing at 9 and I can take to go. I have worked in the restaurant industry before and have never experienced the turning of a customer 40 minutes before closing. I was shocked of such terrible customer service. If I came in at 8:45 I understand but 40 minutes before???? Not coming here ever again or recommending just because of the bad service.
google avatar

Vero V.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this small ma' & pa' restaurant the staff is very welcoming and inviting as if your visiting family. The food tastes great, good portions size. Enough for 2 to share!
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this little spot. Authentic Peruvian food. Extremely affordable. 3 people cost us only $55. Portions are large. Presentation of plate is nice as well. Little whole in the wall.
google avatar

Josefina G.

Yelp
This place is a dump....I ordered the "grouper" with shrimp, and they shamelessly served me tilapia, 2 people in my party and they auto charged 15% tip, which is illegal unless posted. Avoid at all costs..and some of their 5 star reviews seem so fake...so long and well written...FAKE.
google avatar

Giselle K.

Yelp
Good food lunch specials are well served and the prices are fair! The papa a la huancaina is a big plate and really tasty also the lomo saltado is very good!! Service is good also!
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
I am so lucky to live near one of the best Peruvian restaurants in Miami! Their ceviche is always fresh, authentic and flavorful! They have all the Peruvian classics from lomo saltado to pescado a lo macho! I recently catered an event for 60 people from here and all my guests were raving about the food. This place is definitely a neighborhood gem!

Yelp
I've been living walking distance from this restaurant for over 2 years, and surprisingly never went in. But the other day I was craving some Peruvian food and didn't feel like driving to El Chalan, so I finally wandered inside. The only "authentic" dishes I've tried there so far are the Papas a la Huancaina and the fish ceviche. Based on those, El Meson is well deserving of a 4 star review. The only complaint I have is that the Papas were served warm, and I'm used to having that dish cold. I still think cold is the way to go with them, but that's a personal choice. I was afraid the ceviche wouldn't be as fresh and delicious as I'm used to, but my fears were unwarranted. How awesome are thee, ceviche? Let me count the ways. The fish was perfectly marinated. There were the perfect amount of onions in the mix, and everything was fresh to the max. They usually serve fish ceviche with sweet potato and giant peruvian corn, and sometimes they even add a bit of roasted corn kernels on the side...and that's exactly what they did. It was all so good. I could eat ceviche everyday...It's so tasty and guilt-free (and, seriously, how many foods are there that include "tasty" and "guilt-free" in their description?!). They also serve warm dinner rolls with a delicious, creamy green chili sauce that is spicy and filled with goodness. The service was decent. The waiter took a little longer than I'd like to bring the bill, but it didn't matter because I was so pleased with everything else (especially the ceviche). Mmmm... maybe I'll order some more ceviche tonight.

Yelp
There food was delicious just dont try there papaya shake its made with water and lots of sugar..

Yelp
Amazing! Savory and delicious! The servants are quick & very attentive! I am literally always in the mood for one of their dishes! Ketogenic friendly!

Yelp
Wow. I was totally blown away by this place. So many times I have driven past and always wondered, last Sunday we finally decided to venture in. To start off we had yucca with huancaina sauce. I had never tried the sauce but absolutely loved it. I even decided to double dip my yucca with the huancaina sauce and the deelish spicy green sauce they served us with fresh warm bread. MMmmmmmMMMMM. I ordered the lomo saltado and the H ordered fish ceviche. His came out promptly (understandable since there is no cooking involved) and he said it was very fresh and tasty. Since I was nursing a hangover, I didn't really want to try but it looked quite good and I'll have to try some next time. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how lonnnnnng the lomo saltado took to come out. I think it was a good 30 mins after the ceviche. But honestly, once it arrived I decided it was well worth the wait. Absolutely delectable. MMMMmmmmMMMM...the meat was perfect, and the sauce....oh my, that sauce could be put on anything. I really enjoyed the fries and rice that were soaking up all the sauce. The portion was pretty large too, plenty of leftovers for me to enjoy the dish again. I look forward to returning and trying other dishes.

Yelp
Love this place! I come here often (but akways forgets to check in) since it's only within whispering distance from my office. I love their fish ceviche, jalea mixta and papa huancahina. I much prefer their fish ceviche over other Peruvian restaurant's in the neighborhood that uses Tilapia (gross!) for their ceviche. Their Jalea mixta is always fresh and tasty and a huge portion. Service is excellent. However, they do automatically add the 15% tip on your tab but at least they disclose it on the receipt compared to others that doesn't. The restaurant is clean and airy. Tables are set within good distance and the restroom is clean. All in all this place is great and a good place to go to whenever i crave ceviche or fried seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
They gave me a tiny palomilla steak saying it was churrasco! And charged me extra because it was Sunday! Terrible
google avatar

Yemibeth Z.

Yelp
Great place for a quick home style lunch. Portions are big and food has good taste. I recommend the lunch specials they have during the week. I tried pollo salteado it came with a portion of rice and the traditional French fries for this Peruvian classic.
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
Love the ceviche mixto from this little place. It's close to home and service is quick so it's my "go to place" for ceviche. Always very fresh & generous portion. I don't eat in-house, rather I always do pickup.
google avatar

Vanessa J.

Yelp
100% one of the best Peruvian joints I've been to. My favorite dish here is their ceviche mixto. Really some of the best ceviche I've ever had. Other than that their tallarin verde with steak and the lomo saltado are the bomb. The waitresses are really kind and it may not aesthetically be the nicest place but once you try the food, that crap does not matter!
