"Ukrainian Village: Neighborhood Mexican restaurant El Metro Cafe will permanently close on May 16 after a dozen years in business, ownership announces in a Facebook post. “With our hearts filled with gratitude and satisfaction, we are ready to announce that after 12 years of memorable experiences, delicious food shared, and the wonderful people we met, El Metro Café is closing its doors to open ourselves to new adventures,” the post reads. El Metro’s owners also previously ran Spanish-Mexican spot Gaudi Cafe, which closed in 2016 after two years." - Naomi Waxman

Amazing food! I just moved to the area and have been here 3 times. Never dissapointed. I'm vegetarian and the mushroom and Rajas tacos are the best ive had (im from Texas so ive had quite a few). The chilaquiles are comforting and taste like home. Definitely check this place out.

The tacos were delicious and the service was wonderful. I'm from Houston where taco stands and trucks are everywhere so I can definitely tell when the tacos are good and this place is legit. When you go, bring cash because they don't take credit cards.

Being from Arizona, I’m always on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant. I came across El Metro about two years ago and I’ve been going there every week since. Tacos, burritos, chilaquiles, they’re all great. One of my favorite things on their menu (on the weekends) is their Pozole. It’s phenomenal. The restaurant is bright, happy and uplifting. The owners, Betty and Vero are so sweet and accommodating. They really make you feel welcome. I recently placed a delivery order for a small, socially distanced get together at my house and my guests were blown away by the food. I put the order in early in the day, told Metro what time I wanted it delivered and they had everything delivered on time and the order was perfect. I can't say enough good things about them. Do yourself a favor, support a local business and visit El Metro. You won’t be disappointed!

I'm a big fan of El Metro! I come here a couple times every week to do some work using their WiFi and to see what daily specials they've added to the menu.Today I'm treating myself to the el Metro breakfast combo ( french toast, bacon and eggs), and now I see they just got a couple of new micro brews added to their take home menu. Always happy to support this friendly, comfortable local restaurant before and after work.

Best Marg I have had in a long time! Loved chicken enchilada too, nice atmosphere and friendly service.

I tried three of the tacos, and enjoyed them. The service was friendly, and I was offered assistance to understand the menu, along with suggestions on what I might like. There were sauces in a fridge available, mild and spicy, which were both good. I also tried a mango juice that was nice, and they have local craft beer available if you'd like. The portions were a bit small, but I think it was on account of quality ingredients, so it depends on what you're looking for. Overall I was satisfied and would go back.

I tried this place, unfortunately they don't take cards. The staff no very helpful at all. O do food sounds great it's a bit of over priced. To bad I didn't have cash on hand. The lady at the counter told me" Subway take cards" gee thanks for the info, lol

When I first walked by this restaurant my expectations were not particularly high - it was small and very brightly lit, with booths and metal chairs — it kind of reminds you of those drunken nights where you can’t remember if you walked into a Wendy’s or a McDonalds. You walk up to the counter to order, and it was my understanding that they give you your food and you seat yourself. But this is actually a full service restaurant. It has a full bar - the margaritas are excellent (I loved the mango!) - and you can get a set of 6 beers for $15 and you can mix and match with their whole beer selection. Even after I had left a measly tip because I didn’t understand the setup, the staff was lovely and friendly, refilling our water at the perfect intervals. (Don’t worry I corrected my tip after realizing.) Can’t lie the food was pretty average, could use some more salt/seasoning in general, but it was everything you want out of Mexican food, the price was reasonable, and the servings were generous. If they dimmed the lighting a little for some ~ambiance~ I think this restaurant would be full every night. I left the restaurant with a full stomach and a full heart. As it stands I probably wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you were an Uber away, but it is certainly a neighborhood gem I could see myself going to weekly. If you’re walking by it is worth the stop in.
