A one of a kind experience that transports you back into Mexico. All locally sourced products from Mexico and all very high quality without the high price tag. Incredible value! The presentation and flavor of the taco boxes are out of this world! Their tres leches cake and flan are one of the best you can find in the US!!

I was here shopping 45 minutes before close at the local market I often walk to from my house over the last year. After waiting for the women to finish serving the drinks/deserts by the entrance she told me and my fiancé to leave because she was closed and turned off the lights. We instead got some candy to go with our purchase and waited in line to check out and she began laughing with her coworker. While waiting in line two more customers went to the exact spot we waited at and I joked to my fiancé the woman would probably serve them and not us. After 3 minutes of her walking around and wiping her fingers on her nose with no gloves, that same women served those customers drinks and rang them out, so I suppose we were just the wrong color/orientation to be served here. (We just wanted a pre-packaged item so this could have taken 30 seconds of her time) You should be better than this, it’s 2025 and you’re in a tourist city. I then went up the road and spent almost $50 on groceries similar to what I left at el molino’s register instead at food lion because I’d rather support a major chain at this point.

So delicious! Got the tacos birria, steak nachos el molino, steak quesadilla, and torta cubana and it was soooo much food but I was feeling like a feast. Faves were probably the nachos. Queso and both green sauces so hot and delicious. Fresh limes and cukes with everything. Highly recc! Big portions and great flavors for the bucks.

Google
It was a great experience! Such delicious Mexican food. We loved the pozole and the aguas frescas. Strawberry's was my favorite! 🥰

Google
We go for taco box Tuesdays (you can get them any other day but they're on special for taco Tuesdays) and are never disappointed. Definitely the most consistent place for tacos we have found. We were hesitant to try their birria because you get such a great deal with the taco box but their birria con queso taco trio are stuffed and much bigger than their "street taco" sized tacos in the box. Oh and super tasty. Fresh salsa has also been great, and I've treated myself to a horchata a couple of times which has been really good too. Also, they aren't super convenient for me location-wise, but when I can't find queso fresco (which is most of the time) I know they will have it and multiple brands to choose from.

Google
Not disappointed. I wish I spoke fluent Spanish. It would be easier to communicate, but they spoke enough for me to decide what to order. They cover all the bases in this store. Groceries, meats, deserts, pastries, smoothies, street corn. You can dine in to eat. I will be returning quite frequently and I live in Orangeburg. They have dos locations. 😉

Google
Love getting the taco box 🌮 especially on taco Tuesday! Wish they had a smoothie and fresh juice stand, maybe some champurado or even cafe de olla. But 10/10 I can’t wait till the new location opens. Definitely needed a store like this !

Gisela Hartman

Google
Got there first thing on Friday today for breakfast and waited until their 9:30 breakfast time which is fine just for the girl up front to tell me they are only serving tacos. Kind of frustrating to not provide that information first thing but also pretty annoying to not offer breakfast at breakfast time on a Friday. This location has become pretty slack since the new one opened

Yelp
The food is amazing and authentic. The workers are super nice and the food comes out fast. There isn't much of an atmosphere because it is a grocery store, but it's still super cool to look around at all the stuff that they have. they also have really amazing baked goods.
google avatar

Nina C.

Yelp
Friends picked up a taco box of assorted meats. (Asada, chicken, pastor and lengua) You can tell these are authentic the flavors were good. I really dislike when any place gives you hard and old limes. They were almost unsqueezable. We had maybe one good lime to use and share and that is key when you eat tacos is the limes! The salsas they gave you are tasty, the green was more of a creamy one where I normally like a more tomatillo style. Not sure if they had that option or not. I would like to try their tacos in person next time and not togo because I know you don't get the full experience when it's hot and fresh. We will be back!
google avatar

Kyle B.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos, look no further. I've come to realize that if you want quality Mexican food, it's almost always inside of a supermarket. This place is no exception. Everything I ordered was excellent. Including the cantaloupe juice that they serve at the register. The pastor tacos were my favorite. Can't wait to come back again and try some other things on the menu.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
This a good place to not only shop for several Hispanic food/ingredients but also to grab a meal, dessert or snack. We tried the street style tacos and they were simple and tasty. Just realize this isn't a restaurant and the seating area is next to the butcher/meat section. At least you know the food is fresh! If eating in a market style setup is not your "cup of tea," do a grab and go. The food is worth trying. They also have an ice cream stand. Plus the service is down to earth, friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Tatyana B.

Yelp
This is for to-go only. After MANY recommendations around the community to try this place for tacos, we finalky did it! And I'm glad we did! Not only do they have great prices and TacoTueaday deals...they also taste amazing! Carne Asada street tacos are juicy and flavorful. I recommend getting at least 4. Also please get the queso. Because you will want to pour it in your mouth and on to the tacos!! They have a great deal on tuesdays for taco platters. We will be coming back. Thank you!
google avatar

Morgan H.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and keep coming back for the birria tacos! They are sooo good. My boyfriend has also gotten fish tacos from here that he loves!

Amanda K.

Yelp
Great food and service!! We got two tacos and the 3 B tacos w sauce. It was the best we've had anywhere!
google avatar

Yelp
This was such a good find! I've been wanting to order the taco box for years and finally had the perfect reason too! Keep in mind the best day to order the box is on Tuesdays! My get together was on a Wednesday so I paid full price but totally worth it. I'd recommend calling in the order so that it is ready to pick up as it takes about an hour to make. Tons of other great fresh authentic options at El Molino!
google avatar

Kaitlin G.

Yelp
I was very impressed with El Molino. They have fresh tacos in the store. They are excellent. I had the Birria taco and two others and they were very good. The service was fast. I had a new cashier that day and she messed up but they realized it at the same time that I did and they fixed my order. There was a small confusion and I almost ended up with more food than I ordered. The ambiance, well it's a grocery store with tables set up in the middle so it's not fancy but it's very good food. I definitely recommend it.
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
I love el molino! I prefer the new one in nchs since it's so much newer, larger, festive feel (do obe star off for ambience). The old one here in West ashley is located in a semi deserted strip mall. But the food is great in both places! I took a picture of one steak taco for 2.99 - bargain! Delicious! Two corn tacos to make one taco, cucumber, a pack of this slightly hot sauce. Service was fast with a smile!
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
Super fair prices and great street tacos. The store is always clean and well stocked. Tacos are famous for a reason. I'd love to go back and try some of the bakery/ice cream items!

Yelp
Wow. I felt like I was back in California. ...or Mexico, for that matter! I stopped by for lunch and OH MY GOOOODNESS. The tortillas... wow how I miss good homemade tortillas. My pet peeve is these hipster Mexican spots boasting about their homemade tortillas that just easily fall apart... first of all, this store has an entire section devoted to all the homemade corn tortillas they make daily. Second of all, delicious, fluffy, no chance of it falling apart. I ordered three tacos and a side of the avocado salsa; delicious. And then of course I couldn't leave without purchasing some Tajin and their freshly made guacamole. I'm so excited to have found an authentic Mexican spot here in Charleston!!!
google avatar

Cypress B.

Yelp
We went for a quick dinner before our movie night at Citadel mall and El Molino seemed like a good spot. This place is a mexican supermarket with fresh homemade corn tortillas that made daily at the house. They sells marinated meat with mexican spices, home made chips, mexican sodas, spices and seasoning. They also sells mexican sweets and pastry. I heard praises on their Biria Tacos but my favorite is the chorizo tacos and the red vampire juice. We had better biria at the taco food truck in North Charleston. The barbacoa taco was good too and I am planning to go back to try other meal.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the exterior! This grocery store has the best birria tacos in Charleston! Go on Taco Tuesday for the best deal. Make your way to the back left of the store and you'll find the counter to order. There is no table service here. There is seating inside and outside. Hidden gem for sure! They have a bunch of drink options as well!
google avatar

Brad P.

Yelp
Everything made fresh. Homemade tortillas, butcher shop, pastries, market with sauces and snacks. Fast service for call in orders. Big store with lots of variety. Big spacious store. Tables outside for seating.
google avatar

Alexandra D.

Yelp
If you're late to the party like us, you need to check out the traditional Mexican food at El Molino Supermarket! The front of El Molino is a traditional Hispanic Supermarket including a bakery with fresh baked Pan Dulce (sweet bread/pastries). In the back you will find a tortillería (tortilla bakery) and a taqueria (Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos). Try the: - Birria tacos - Chorizo tacos - Churros filled with raspberry filling - The red Vampire Juice 1610 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, West Ashley Second location opening soon in North Charleston * Taco boxes are discounted on Tuesdays

Yelp
After getting voted Best Tacos in Charleston 2023 by the Charleston City Paper readers, I had to check it out. I decided to go with the burrito. The burrito wrap was very good and did not fall apart. I got mine without meat and it was loaded up with rice, beans, and veggies. The green hot sauce that came with it had a nice kick to it. I complemented my burrito with a horchata which was delightful. Overall 10/10 and I plan on going back frequently.
google avatar

Keisha H.

Yelp
Perfect location right on rivers. I get my oxtails here and carne asada freshly cut from the butcher.
google avatar

Todd A.

Yelp
I'll preface this with the fact that I'm biased. I'm used to carneceria's in Arizona. Our demographic is a lot more focused on Hispanic culture and Mexican food. So, with that in mind, this is a good market. Not great, but certainly adequate for what it is. My biggest issue is that it is way overpriced. I payed $13.99/lb for carne asada that should be priced more like $7.99.
google avatar

Wanda G.

Yelp
I had heard El Molino had a restaurant area that made excellent tacos. Truth! Tacos were fantastic. The restaurant area is in back of store. You order at desk and your number is called when your food is ready. They have a large area with tables next to the kitchen. They also have several tables outside you can set at to eat your food. I bought two tacos. One pollo and the other carnitas. Food was fresh, hot with perfect amount of spice. I will be back whenever I'm in area.
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
Birria tacos were delicious!! Will definitely make this a regular lunch spot. I also love shopping for fresh ingredients while I wait for my food order. Last time I took home limes, avocados and a pound of their Al pastor!
google avatar

Sherri J.

Yelp
Haven't been here in awhile! They have completely redone the inside to make a sitting area to eat. The tacos are just as good as always! The Barbacoa tacos are always, my favorite! Bought some fresh made tortillas to take home with us. I won't wait so long next time too enjoy these awesome tacos!

Marie Q.

Yelp
Plain bad all the way around California Mexican food so good They give you condescending dirty looks there stay away

Robyn L.

Yelp
This is worth every cheat day for the next month. Loads of gooey cheese with a beautifully seasoned braised beast, grilled in tortillas. A squeeze of lime, a glop of avocado hot sauce, drowned in the consommé, bite....... I dare you to try and keep your eyes open when you eat this. Your eyes will close and a smile will involuntarily appear on your face as you savor the gooey cheese that gets grilled in all that wonderful beast juice. Just don't forget the squeeze of lime juice. I usual say what is my favorite of each type of ethnic restaurants. THIS JUST BECAME MY FAVORITE BITE EVER! It's super easy to order, look around and gawk at the amazing butcher shop with preseasoned beasts. You must go!!!!! Go now !!!!!
google avatar

Rachael A.

Yelp
Wanted to really like this place. I mean look at the presentation. These were the worst tacos I've ever had. The carnitas was inedible! It was all skin and bone and no meat. The chicken and asada were mediocre at best. Will not be going back. I would honestly like a refund for how much we paid for this awful food.
google avatar

Lindsey F.

Yelp
as a colorado native, this is the best mexican shop and food spot in the charleston area. I havent had such authentic mexican food/drink in sc yet. everyone in there is always amazing and nice. everything is organized and clean. definitely get tacos, horchata, or a torta there
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Lunch, great store for mexican products you just can't find in Charleston, Birria Tacos were outstanding!

Kelly G.

Yelp
Really truly wanted to love this place . I loved the customer service, loved the loud salsa music playing , love the fact they have a panaderia and a taqueria inside the grocery store and lots of Hispanic owned products available for sale . However , I came for the birria tacos and they just were not that good . From all the Yelp reviews I was ready for my life to be changed , my palate to be elevated , all the good things ! Unfortunately, there were no fireworks in my mouth , just disappointment for wasting the calories and carbs . The tacos lacked flavor . That's the bottom line . I tried adding the lime , tried dipping it in the accompanying consommé broth-- nada . Nothing helped . It was just no bueno . Also, the al pastor taco I got was a joke . No pineapple and just marinated in a sauce that left it dripping in sauce that wasn't working for it . I'm so sad about it but I also want to point out if you've never eaten tacos in Mexico you may find you like these tacos . I literally compare all these Americanized tacos to my culinary experiences in Mexico and yes I usually end up disappointed. I am going to return and order something else and hopefully can improve my rating because overall I believe this grocery store is an asset to West Ashley .
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Incredible !! A hidden gem in the heart of west Ashley. The taco box did NOT disappoint 10/10
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
I am kind of torn whether or not to share my review of El Molino because the true gems you want to keep a secret, but my goodness, this place is so amazing I just have to share. Hidden away in the back of a Hispanic supermarket is the taqueria where you can get the best authentic Mexican food I've had in this area so far. We got the barria tacos and a few regular tacos and they were all sooo great! I am about to make this place a weekly staple until I try everything on the menu, then I'll do it again. Go try it, now!
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Frustrated is an understatement. Where have the prices gone? It's tasty, that's for sure. But why remove the prices? Well, that's because you can get better scammed. Birria tacos are 11.99 if you get 3, but 4.99 for just one. It would have been nice to know that we were about to spend over $30 for 4 Birria tacos, 2 chorizo tacos, 1 chicken taco, 1 small horchata and a can of coke. It was Tuesday. We should have just got the 20 taco box for 15.99 instead (their Tuesday only special). I would have also skipped the horchata as its very different from any other horchata I've ever had. In short, I just dont think it's filtered. There are many other options: Burritos, Tortas, etc, but it's scary ordering not knowing what exactly you'll get and not knowing how much anything costs. Indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of parking. Our tacos were decent besides the mouthful of fat I got in one of my birria tacos. We will be back.
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
Came here to dine in and wow it is absolutely worth it. The tacos are incredibly authentic, flavorful, and well worth the pricing. They did not skimp out on the meats which had plenty of seasoning in marination to it. My personal favorite was the steak taco, but all of them were quite good. Classic red and green sauce were provided along with radishes and likes so you get the whole experience. There isn't much else to say - it's a simple place with great food options. Sounds like a hidden gem, but I also hope they get very successful business out of it too so tell your friends!
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
I want to start with my phone call after hearing about the leche cake for my wife's birthday. They said they only had one Cherro slice left and would hold it for me. From that moment I couldn't wait to get there. I've been to many markets like this in my life. A lot... let's just say are not very welcoming. The staff here was awesome. They were super great to my daughter and I!and they really did hold the cake! We walked the entire place and I will be back for some things I wanted but couldn't get. Well, look at my photos. The food was awesome made fresh. Most of the places in town make similar food that doesn't taste as good and is double the price!!! Watch out for that sauce; after taco 5 with it I went for the milk! Oh and they have all my fav beers! Go see the great people there! Cheers!
google avatar

Molly S.

Yelp
This is the place to go for authentic Latin groceries as well as lunch. You can eat there or to go. We got a variety of tacos to go- pastor, carnitas, Lengua. All were great and came in the classic Mexican street taco style with double tortillas. Be sure to check out the Agua Fresca counter at the front of the store too. Watermelon and pineapple mint were my favorite. Aside from a lunch spot, I can't wait to go back to shop at the supermercado and make an authentic Mexican dinner. They had everything from queso Oaxaca to marinated pork cuts and fresh veggies. 10/10 would go back- I just wish it were located a little closer to town.
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Have heard wonderful praise of this place for a long time & so glad I was finally able to try it. Went with a quesadilla with barbacoa and a hibiscus water. The quesadilla was delightfully greasy and cheesy and came with a wicked spicy green sauce. The hibiscus water was sweet and refreshing and almost disappeared before I got my food. Delicious, authentic lunch stop!
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
Came to Molino for the Taco Tuesday pizza box that saw on Instagram. Thoroughly enjoyed it so still going back! The taco box is a must especially for an evening with a few friends and great presentation on their part to intrigue more potential customers! Their taqueria is the hidden gem of some great inexpensive authentic tacos. Their meals come with radish, cucumbers, a red sauce and a green sauce. The green sauce is my favorite and very spicy. The red sauce has an interesting sweetness to it for me. Went back last weekend for lunch to try the Birria tacos and again was not disappointed! They have 5 or so tables outside on the strip to eat. Along with the grocery and taqueria, is a dessert stand. I am a big fan of churros so had to get one. They weren't the hottest when received but still tasty cinnamon sugar dough. Scavenged and bought a few things from the grocery as well. Some plaintain chips, fresh tortilla chips and homemade salsa! Next time will have to try some of the frozen items and the marinated meats. Great addition to west ashley and excited to go back!
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
I love El Molino! So authentic and so good! The grocery selection is great and the freshly made food is absolutely delicious! We had a taco box and the ceviche and we were so pleased! The chips and salsa were just right. Look forward to going back soon!
google avatar

Amanda V.

Yelp
This place is a gem. The birria tacos (shredded beef, I think) were AMAZING and made to order. I heard from multiple people as I was waiting for my order that they have a great taco Tuesday special deal. They had amazing salsas too in their refrigerated area- I liked the red spicy one and their traditional red salsa. The guacamole & salsa verde were good as well. Their house made chips were very greasy, but I ate them anyway since the salsa was so good. Wouldn't get those chips again, but they did have brand name options for chips. They had delicious looking cake slices and ice cream as well as dry grocery staples. Definitely come here for tacos. You can call them in too.
google avatar

Shamila P.

Yelp
This spot is so awesome. Almost want to keep it a secret so it won't be too crazy in terms of the queue. This place is such a good deal and yummy tacos. There is a small outside seating area and some inside area. However, I've always ordered in advance and gotten it to go. This place is also a supermarket so you can totally get some spicy yummy sauces and snacks! I also love the dessert bar "spot". So glad this spot is here in West Ashley!
google avatar

Trudy H.

Yelp
Menu is limited. We were all happy with our choices. The dips with dinners were on the spicy side (for this white girl). I would say hotter than medium salsa. Great seasoning. The birrias are tender and flavorful.

Carol B.

Yelp
FOOD! Fabulous! The Taco box is awesome as you have great choices of tacos Unbelievably delicious! Interesting store as well!

Hannah B.

Yelp
Delicious tacos and guacamole! Grocery store with great homemade desserts. Highly recommend the birria tacos
google avatar

Vanessa P.

Yelp
Stopped by for some tacos but I wish I would've taken a photo of them! The tacos de lengua were amazing and the salsas that come with them were on point! Grabbed an agua fresca de pepino y limón and it wasn't too sweet! Pretty affordable and quick service! Highly recommend!

Kristyn T.

Yelp
Friendly service and delicious tacos! Well stocked with great selection. Definitely recommend and will return.
google avatar

Erika W.

Yelp
Go get the taco box!!! We did half chicken and half barbacoa with all the fixings (onion and cilantro). The box comes with a couple of different sauces, cucumbers and radishes. We also ordered a "small" guacamole for $5.99. So worth it. It lasted us two days and was perfection. We also picked up three different types of chips and some cookies in the grocery store area. The food was all excellent. All the employees were really nice. I can't wait to go back for another box and to try the churros, crepes and other desserts in the ice cream area up front. The taqueria, by the way, is in the back left part of the store.

Tamara L.

Yelp
Taco was delicious had a nice variety of products from South American latin countries

Lauren W.

Yelp
amazing tacos! definitely a cool spot inside the market with lots of cool snacks too. the service was good too and pretty quick.

Yelp
Their are .com! I saw other reviews and pics floating around for awhile now and was just waiting on the perfect opportunity to happen for my husband to take us here. We went shopping at Costco and were staved, I didn't take anything out and we were in a rush, a viola! Lol! When you first walk in, i walked right up to the dessert bar, thinking that's where I was ordering tacos lol! With a look of confusion, and my husband laughing and pointing, I realized I was in the wrong spot. The desserts/Bars looked delicious but I was in there strictly for three tacos all the way! There were a few people in line ahead and people continued to come in behind us. That's a great sign, right?! We both ordered three different tacos, and were asked if lime, onions and cilantro were alright. But of course!!!! Oh and the we both ordered the rice and beans. We then paid, and grabbed a table outside and dug in! The tacos were full of flavor, my favs were the carne asada, beef, and I even tried the cabeza (head) taco from my husband and it was loaded with flavor! The rice and beans were wicked authentic and unlike any I had had before. There were even chunks of meat. Two sides were actually more than enough and we probably would share one next time. Overall this was a cool place. I'd def go back for tacos and we both said we'd love to try their burrito next time. They also have awesome takeout taco Tuesday family meal deals. We will be back :)

Hunter L.

Yelp
The closest thing I've found to a taco cart in Charleston. This food is fantastic, made fresh to go right there in front of you. And reasonably priced, for Charleston. Buy a beer while you wait on your food and sit outside and enjoy the West Ashley people watching.
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Moved to Charleston from California and I'm so happy I found this place. The food is amazing! They also have all my favorite Mexican snacks! Will definitely be back!!!
