28 Best Things to Do in Barcelona

"This romantically named mural near the Catedral de Barcelona was only meant to be a temporary exhibition. It was unveiled in 2014 for the 300th anniversary of September 11, 1714, a day known as Catalonia Day, or La Diada, which commemorates Catalan surrender in the War of Spanish Succession. The day is a tribute to the Catalan lives lost, to regional identity, and to freedom. The mural is made up of 4,000 tiles with photos printed onto them arranged into mosaics by color and density so that, from afar, the 26-foot-tall mural shows two people kissing. This kiss—a symbol of affection, empathy, and liberty—felt so poignant that the local government never took it down." - Gemma Askham

Pretty cool place. The kissing on the wall are made up by hundreds and hundred of tiny photos. There were also people taking “old fashioned” newspaper photos which I thought was cool. Defo a must see in Barcelona.

This is a big mosaic picture of kissing in a wall which is not far from the Cathedral of Barcelona and El Gothic. They say this was made with around 4,000 photos. The intention and its interpretation were somewhat difficult to understand, however it was looking good and we enjoyed taking pictures with painting in the background. After the tour of this wall picture, we got to Placa Nova of rather large square and e could enjoy the engraved Picasso pictures and museum as well.

Pro tip - visit it early in the morning to avoid the crowd🙃 “El món neix en cada besada” translates to “The world begins with every kiss” in English. It is a poetic and evocative phrase that gained prominence through a mosaic artwork by Catalan artist Joan Fontcuberta. This piece, located in Barcelona’s Born district, is composed of thousands of small photographs contributed by citizens, which together form the image of lips in a kiss. The artwork celebrates themes of love, connection, and unity, emphasizing how every small act of love can create and transform the world. It’s a beautiful symbol of collective creativity and shared humanity.

Very nice spot! A must-visit for every selfie lover. There were about 20 people there trying to get a photo next to the wall, but none was queuing. Was a bit chaotic getting a photo, but you need to be faster than the others. It would have been way better if there was a queue and everyone gets his/her own moment.

Title: Barcelona's Best-Kept Secret: A Kiss Worth a Thousand Stories Review: Our guided tour in Barcelona unveiled a hidden treasure right before my eyes—El món neix en cada besada by Joan Fontcuberta. At first, the grandeur of the piece eluded me; what appeared to be a simple wall turned out to be a stunning mosaic created from thousands of tiny photographs. Each photo, submitted by local residents, was a piece of a larger image—a captivating depiction of a kiss. As I stepped closer, the individual stories within each snapshot began to unfold, drawing me deeper into the artwork. The surprise of discovering such intricate detail where I least expected it made the experience truly remarkable. Our guide's explanation of the mural's history and significance added layers of appreciation, revealing the powerful messages of unity and freedom embedded in this public art. This unexpected gem in the heart of Barcelona was one of the most memorable stops on our tour. It's not just a visual spectacle; it's a profound reminder of the community's spirit and the personal narratives that collectively create a masterpiece. It is a must-visit for anyone looking to connect with the city's artistic soul.

Very simple yet fascinating free attraction in Barcelona. It is just a mosaic wall with tiny pictures that compose this romantic expression. Can get pretty busy, but people were making lines and taking quick turns to take photos.
