Best Restaurants in Rosarito Beach - Eater San Diego

"Mesquite-grilled steaks are a must-order at this mainstay of Rosarito Beach. Most of the restaurant’s produce and meat also come from its proprietary farms in the nearby countryside." - Jackie Bryant

Google
Amazing restaurant from 1976 - so it has a lot of history! The ambiance is great! Make sure to ask for the back patio- it is covered in plants, birds flying, picturesce! I have eaten the marlin tacos and had a tamarindo margarita. Recommended!

Google
ordered the ribeye chilaquiles verde—easily the worst dish i’ve ever had. asked for scrambled eggs on the side, didn’t get them. the “ribeye” wasn’t even a ribeye, just a cheap, low-quality cut of meat that was tough and flavorless. the chilaquiles themselves were bland, and the fresas tasted like watered-down sugar. nothing about this meal was worth the price or the wait. definitely wouldn’t recommend.(won't write a review for my friends but just know they didn't approve of their dishes either) Let me not even talk about the chips and salsa lmao absolutely the worst you will ever try or have

We are from New Zealand, and stopped by El Nido for lunch, while on holiday. What an amazing experience, loved every part of it from the deco, the music, food, gourgous cook, cooking the steaks and potatoes, to the fantastic service we received, and something we rearly experience, as we left the staff stood up in respect ,was very humbling, highly recommended, visiting this classic Mexican restaurant A+++

Google
El Nido offered a dim, calming atmosphere, perfect for family dining. The interior is beautifully designed, resembling a traditional outdoor Mexican patio. I ordered a kids’ menu enchilada with rice and beans. The enchilada was decent, and the rice and beans had an authentic flavor. Overall, it wasn’t exceptional, but it satisfied our hunger during our time in Rosarito.

Yelp
Before dining on a Halibut Taco and Fried Lobster at La Escondida in Puerto Nuevo, our bus stopped to afford us a bathroom break, 90-minute shopping quest, and an opportunity to drink and dine. The choice was entirely ours. After using the restaurant's clean restroom, Diane and I decided to pay the hospitality back with some preliminary appetizers. A generous spread of Guacamole and tasty Salsa was supplied to apply to homemade Tortilla Chips which were good but much smaller than those served at La Escondida two hours later. And, Diane lapped up traditional Queso Fundido while I ate one of two ordered Bean & Cheese Burritos put on a plate. The jungle-like atmosphere inside the restaurant was notable, with a waterfall and flames visible not far from each other. The food was very good, and the service lightning fast.

Yelp
So the inside was pretty nice, it was unique to say the least, and I do like the general area of Rosarito, they do have amazing tortillas but as for the rest of the food, beans rice and meat? I live in California and I've had much better Mexican food here. it's not a matter of authenticity, it's a matter of quality. But those tortillas are something to remember for sure

Yelp
I don't like negative reviews, I will review this place based on my experience there. Yes, the place is cute and clean. But the food was not good. We are in Mexico and expected a little bit more. I had the aguachiles, not impressed at all. The flavor was off I had a side of French fries they were stale and honestly they were not fresh cut potatoes ( frozen kind). In my opinion the prices were a bit high for the quality of food they offer.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, amazing service. I didn't get to try the drinks that day but I definitely will be coming back and hopefully get to taste their drinks! Such a beautiful place with delicious food, 100% recommend!

Yelp
As we wrap 2023, I just wanted to say it was my first time in Rosarito. I never crossed the border and I was skeptical of the food down south. The food was good and I really enjoyed the Tortilla and Salsa! The decor is really special and birds were flying everywhere. I don't eat beans but I enjoyed my meal. The pancakes were not bad either :)
google avatar

Yelp
El Nido means 'the nest' in Spanish and the ambiance of this restaurant vouches for that name. There are birds flying around inside, lush green plants, and flowing water. It is pretty cool! The food is good Mexican food and I love their fresh tortillas. You can see them making flour tortillas in the dining rooms while you're at your table. I like how the food isn't super greasy, since with greasy Mexican food I don't feel great after. The food is pricier for Mexican standards, but it's cheaper than San Diego restaurant prices for sure. The servers are helpful and they get you a server who can speak English. The menu is Spanish and English as well.

Yelp
Restaurant was so cute, service was top tier and food was delicious! Definitely recommend this restaurant if you're visiting Rosarito!

Yelp
The food was great! The service was amazing, friendly, and attentive. We went a year ago twice while out there for our long weekend. We're going out again this month & are looking forward to the visit. The ambiance is great , we love El Nido, and we can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Veronica P.

Yelp
I would give El Nido 3 1/2 stars if possible and went with 3 because of the excessive charge of water, my burnt flautas, and the average flavor of my food. The service was good during our meal, but it took a bit to find our server when we were ready to go. What was outstanding was the setting, decor, clean restrooms, and the overall ambiance. There are inside In the evening it felt like we were in a hideaway. I love the chimeneas, but if you have asthma, I'd pass. It's smoky and your clothes will smell of smoke the next morning. They also have some nice options of venison and quail on the menu. Our party had steak and basic Mexican options. The enchiladas, tacos, flautas were pretty standard, but the tortillas were top notch! If you want a cool experience on your vacation, it's worth a visit, but just know they stick it to you if you order water.

Yelp
Was walking down Benito at around 10 pm to go get some tacos, but I was stopped on my tracks when I noticed that the restaurant was still opened. There were some ladies cooking up a storm of tortillas de harina. I legit thought this restaurant was only open during the day. I imagined how delicious a tortilla de harina with butter would be... so I asked my sister, if she wanted to go in have a drink and we could order a tortilla for each of us. The staff was so welcoming. The sight is gorgeous, it is like a jungle in there with lots of vintage pieces of furniture and appliances. We ordered some potato skins, which were divine, a margarita which was very well served and the tortillas de harina.... they did not disappoint! I wish I could have eaten one more, but I really need my stomach real estate to eat at least one taco down the street. After our snack and our drink we walked around the entire restaurant, it was so beautiful. It even had a gorgeous chapel in the back --Tulum vibes! We were able to do this, because it was on a week day, it was not busy and it was almost closing time. I need to come back to try their regular menu...particularly breakfast. A must go to when in Rosarito. I can't believe I've been in Rosarito a countless amount of times and this was my first time coming here.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was great. The plants created a serene and natural ambiance. The bonuses were the homemade flour tortillas they served with the chips and salsa!

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 20 years and it never disappoints. The service is exceptional, the food is fabulous but what separates this place from all others is indoor waterfall. A definite Must when in Rosarito.

Yelp
The food here was really good especially the breaded zucchini!! We absolutely enjoy the food and service was 10/10. The margarita could've been stronger tbh!! But all was good!
google avatar

Cesar R.

Yelp
Beautiful place but that's it. Food was less than mediocre as my rice was crunchy, and undercooked. My partner's flautas had 0 flavor and overall we ended up asking for a good taco shop in the area. Service was very fast and attentive ambience is fantastic but we came for the food which was just not good. $1,200+(mxn) for two drinks, two waters, French fries and two less-than-decent combination plates. If you're here with a group, grab a couple of drinks from here and find yourself a nice taco shop. Won't regret it.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my food here! This was my first time in Rosarito and my friend said we had to stop here as it is one of here favorite restaurants here and she comes almost on a weekly basis. I'm really glad we did! I got the Machaca de venado con nopales (Dried venison with cactus). First off, I couldn't believe they even had venison on the menu. I have only seen that a handful of times. And wow! Did they do an amazing job cooking it! The flavor by itself was amazing and when paired with the cactus, to die for. I even convinced my friend to try it. It was her first time trying venison and she loved it. She even took my leftovers home for herself, she loved it that much. My friend got the Chilaquiles con nopales rancheros (chilaquiles with cactus) and eggs. While I did also enjoy her dish, I was definitely more pleased with what I had ordered for myself. I want to go back just to get the venison again. Hopefully she brings me some back next time she goes!

Yelp

Yelp
Food is always fantastic. The Service is great. The Ambiance is casual and wonderful. El Nido continues to be a "must stop" for overall good food and service. We have only been here for breakfast but look forward to trying dinner sometime. El Nido has been a regular place for us and worth it.

Yelp
Came across this restaurant while looking for breakfast spots in Rosarito! It really captured my attention with the atmosphere and decore. Came here as soon as they opened and we were walked in right away found a great table in the back room! It was such a great feel! A lot of green and felt very opened. Servers were extremely friendly and attentive. Ordered the chilaquiles with some machaca and It! Was delicious. My wife ordered eggs and chorizo burrito, and of course I took a bite out of it! That was also great!
google avatar

Jesse P.

Yelp
Order a steak and it had a worm on top. Wish I was joking. I know we are in "Mexico" but the prices they charge doesn't reflect the quality.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, food was yummy, it's a cute very home like place. Welcoming and such cute decor. Must try

Yelp
We were in the area and had heard some great things about their hand made tortillas so we just had to order some to take back home to the usa. We purchased 24 tortillas for around $5 and it was the best flour tortillas I've ever had. They made it in just under 5 minutes. The service was fast and friendly. The decor is very pretty and has a nice ambiance. I love all the plants in the ceiling.

Yelp
We went here on a quick trip to Mexico Ensenada. We came via a Carnival Cruise aboard "the Miracle". We were stopped off here in Rosarita on an excursion for our one day stop, and we spent a short amount of time here in this neighborhood for shopping. We decided to spend it eating. We ordered the garlic mushrooms, the chorizo and cheese appetizers and a quesadilla to share for a quick snack. The food was muy delicioso! I never had chorizo and cheese and it tasted like a cheese pizza minus the crust and bread. The garlic mushrooms were nice. I also ordered a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice, and it was refreshing and unlike any other I've ever had. Fyi, to the Spanish non speakers. The menu was Duolingo, in Spanish and English. And the wait staff at least the ones we came across did understand English. The best part of this place is the decor. Omg you are in houseplant heaven! Theres a rock waterfall in the dining room and it feels very tropical and mystical inside with all the plants and wicker baskets and light treatments hanging from the ceiling. Very insta-worthy and special

Yelp
This is a Rosarito favorite of mine. The ambiance is indoor outdoor and so classically cool. The ladies making fresh tortillas getting me every time. I love those. The service is notably good almost every time. If it's busy you might have to make eye contact but they're really nice and on top of it every time I come in. There's so many great dishes to choose from here. Note that they have their own farm for quail, deer and I think chickens too. You'll get a quail egg with your salad; It's one of the little noticeable details for me. You can order quail or get quail eggs for breakfast. The venison machaca is delicious. Make sure to check out the brick oven in front of the bar where some of the food is prepared. Birds will come in and out as you dine and if you get seated in the back you'll see turtles in the water at the bottom of the waterfall.

Srey Y.

Yelp
I absolutely love the vibe here. There's so many different rooms you can sit that feels different in each one. I love the woman who is making fresh flour tortillas. The smell of the burning wood fire. The service was wonderful. He had recommended the steak with quail and we absolutely loved it. It came with tortilla soup and salad. We split the one entree and still couldn't finish it. What is a real plus is the roasted garlic mushrooms because it is flavorful and can't be eaten with your steak for extra flavors. We will keep eating here every-time we visit Rosarito!
google avatar

Yelp
I have eaten here twice now. Enchiladas are fantastic and the steak cooked just right. Nothing beats fresh tortillas. Service is excellent and the ambiance perfect I would eat here again.

Yelp
Mi esposo nos sorprendió a mí y a nuestros hijos. Tenía ganas de venir aquí. Nos enamoramos de la cascada y las plantas. el restaurante se siente romántico. la comida y el servicio fueron buenos.

Yelp
Came to el Nido with my family first time in Rosarito. The service was fast and friendly. Food was decent for being in Mexico I expected the food to be a bit better but was good. I would come here again and recommend to others.

Yelp
WOW!! WOW!!! WOW!!! I'M IN LOVE!! Came by this place, because we heard about it on TikTok. And let me tell you what! It did not disappoint! We stopped by for my Daughter's 16th birthday. We decided to take her to breakfast here, after hearing about it on TikTok. We were immediately seated in their garden area. It was a tad bit cold, but they had this very nice center posted fire pit, that helped a lot. The waiter who took care of us, was very awesome and welcoming. The food was delicious, and we took some time to take pictures. It felt so relaxing eating breakfast there. This is a definite go-to spot if you are ever in Rosarito! Why am I in love you ask? Their handmade FLOUR TORTILLAS!!! OMG!! Delicious doesn't even begin to describe how good they were! Took my back to my younger days, when Grandma would make them at home early on a Sunday morning... Everything about this place was perfect. Will most DEFINITELY be back.... Kinda didn't want to write this review, so other people wouldn't find out about this GEM!! lol! All good, I hope you all enjoy it, as much as I did!
google avatar

Debbie O.

Yelp
The best part was they allowed us to bring our doggies. The margaritas were ok. The salsa needed some spice it tasted like tomatoes and onions. The separate hot spice was hot. They don't serve fried fish but we ordered the garlic butter fillet. It was a little dry. The service was great as far as the clean up. The hand made tortillas were excellent.

Crystal G.

Yelp
Place and environment is beautiful!! Customer service is great too! I got green chilaquiles and were not the best. They weren't bad either but just not the best. Their flour tortillas are so good!! Their horchata was too watered down.
google avatar

Nick P.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place and told me to go to the back patio, and wow it was awesome! I really love the atmosphere and decore, especially with the fireplace and waterfalls on the patio. The tortillas are out of this world delicious! I had the venison burrito combo and they were delicious! The beans are definitely homemade and sooo good!! The margarita was superb and strong (which I love). The salsa was bland but I added a good bit of salt which livened it up a good bit. Overall an excellent experience and would highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Mexican breakfast in town! Sit in the garden with waterfalls. Quail an steak are favs and drinks are great. It is USA priced but worth it. Portions are definitely for two people. Molly is the service is excellent.
google avatar

Jazmin E.

Yelp
Breakfast review: The ambiance here is great, you forget where you are for a moment as you get lost in the plants, the birds, and the decor. Nearby fireplace warms up your cafe de olla, a woman in the corner making fresh tortillas hechas a mano. I ordered the potato and chorizo breakfast burritos. *This dish comes prepared as s scramble but I asked for my eggs on the side due to an allergy so my partner could eat the eggs. Cornish game hen eggs were used. My partner ordered the machaca and chillaquiles combo plate. Portions were large, food was delicious, and the service was wonderful.
google avatar

Keisha C.

Yelp
The food is low quality. Ambience beautiful . Very popular amongst tourist. The service was good.

Jacob C.

Yelp
Best place to come. Place is amazing looks beautiful inside birds chirping and all. Love it all
google avatar

Julianna B.

Yelp
The aesthetics here alone are 10/10. I went to Rosarito with a couple friends. Our personal chef canceled last minute & we found this restaurant by just walking in. They were able to accommodate 7 of us for dinner - same day reservation. When you walk in you are greeted with old traditional Mexican Adobe architecture. There is an old juke box and other historical images on the walls. There are two dining areas. We were led to the one all the way in the back. I was awed by how beautiful it was!! All around the dining room there are large plants and a pond with a waterfall to listen to as you have dinner. The dining room is dimly lit and really gives off a vibe. I would return just for the vibes. The food was okay. I ordered the venison and maybe I should have stuck with something more traditional. I'll be back

Yelp
El Nido is a classic icon in Rosarito. This was my first visit in over 20 years! my friends wanted to have breakfast here and I was riding with them, so we went. there is so much seating here! we sat close to the front and enjoyed our meal. When we were paying our bill...the rest of our crew (8 more people) arrived. they were seated on the back patio and I joined them (other 2 folks took off). so cool that I got to experience two different parts of the restaurant. food was pretty good. margarita was solid yup...I would come back
google avatar

Thuy Dan T.

Yelp
3.5 round up to 4 stars. The restaurant itself was vibey with so much greenery/forestry in the dining space and the staff was five stars! The best parts of the meal were the hand-made tortillas (so fresh and soft, yet sturdy) and the mushrooms appetizer! Blooming onion was crispy but had many bitter pieces of onions like the onion was pre-ripe. The table salsa was a slightly bland and I found myself just dousing my chip with it to get some flavor. We also for the shredded carnitas which were a tad dry and the guacamole with it was also a tad bland. Served with a naked baked potato, which was not very enticing to eat alone. Drinks were pretty good! I got a spicy margarita and asked for extra spicy and boy was it extra spicy a lot of slices of jalapeno in there. I'm not sure I would venture here again, but it's right on the main street so it's easily accessible and close to other options.

Yelp
Loved the tortillas and the ambiance. The service was excellent. I sit in the lovely patio every time:)
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service, cozy ambiance, and good food. We had a party of 13 and couldn't be happier with the service. Parking was a bit of a challenge, so I recommend arriving early Friday through Sunday.
google avatar

Maribel A.

Yelp
I visited this restaurant because of TikTok but was greatly disappointed food was not good except for the fresh flour tortillas the lady was making those were amazing other than that my food was not good no flavor my drink was awful and the service was hectic if we needed something we had to look around for our server and wave him over I left super un satisfied with my whole experience
google avatar

Oscar G.

Yelp
Wasn't worth it to me. Many many years ago, had visited and used to be note worthy. Seems it is living off of old fame. Now just seems like the care isn't there. Other spots have better food, and value. Chips, salsa stale and bland. Salad looked like it sat out a bit too long and sad, tasted old. Shrimp and fish over cooked. Added a star for the Staff, friendly and attentive.

Yelp
We found this beautiful restaurant while walking with our friends. The restaurant is authentic Mexican with traditional decorations. Their portions are big, and the food is delicious. The only thing I didn't like is that the waitress was rushing us, and when I asked her to serve my husband and me in small portions, she ignored me. Both my husband and I had bypass surgery, so we do not eat large portions. But other than that, the restaurant is a great spot to eat.

Yelp
Love this place beautiful décor. The food is soo good and the margaritas are to die for. Always come here when in town. Oh and the waiters are on it very attentive.

Aserrado M.

Yelp
This was an interesting little spot on a corner of the main strip in Rosarito. I was meeting here with a large group of about 30 friends. It kinda feels like ur in a jungle somewhere in South America. The service was excellent! They combined a bunch of tables so we could all sit together. I arrived later than everyone else, but they served me coffee immediately. Good job! Service is a major plus for me. The food was ok, nothing crazy, or exciting; not much of a selection. I had an omelette with mushrooms, cheese, salsa fresca, bacon, and ham. It was decent. It came with rice and beans, and the tortillas were hand-made. Good prices and excellent service really made our stop totally worth it..
google avatar

Wayne K.

Yelp
This is the place to come for a great experience. We waited in line 20 minutes and it was still worth it. After it's all said and done you probably won't remember the food but the ambiance is something else. Food 4.2/5 Service 4.1/5 Decor 4.6/5
google avatar

Melody K.

Yelp
Food is amazing. Wait is a little long but there are vendors around. Fresh homemade flour tortillas, temp stays cool inside. Didn't go for dinner, but next time I will. Get the aguas frescas . I was able to get the horchata and sandia. Food I had the chilaquiles and the next day (no pictures) a cheese and veggie omelette. Definitely recommended and definitely worth the wait. Next time will have to try dinner.
