I’ve been coming to El Nopal since the early 90’s and the food is still very delicious! I highly recommend the Mexican Pizza! Whenever I come through Pueblo, I always stop at El Nopal!

Google
Best Mexican food in Pueblo. Consistent quality. The green chili is the perfect texture and flavor. There’s attention to detail in everything. The rice and beans are better than any other place. Without a doubt, the best enchiladas, tostadas and tacos in Pueblo. The Monster Burrito is amazing!! This will be your new favorite place. Locally owned and operated for multiple generations.

Google
The worst Mexican restaurant iv been to. They don’t offer carne asada burritos, only beef, and the worst is they charge you as if it were steak. The waitress is not pleasant.

Troy Ard

Google
The food here was great. It’s different from other Mexican food around and always consistent high quality. It’s truly unique in town. It’s become a staple to us in our Mexican food arsenal.

Food was good and the green chili was spicy and great, The price was very reasonable.

I have been to Mexico, this is a great experience here! Kim and George are great. They are the owners of this business and all the recipes here go back to the early/mid 1900s direct from Mexico, and a specific local at that. The service, was great. The music was great. The food, is great - distinctive, and authentic.

This place was great, apparently we missed the rush which was good so we were able to take our time. The salsa served with the chips was very good, nice and thick with a touch of heat. I ordered avocado and pork burrito with mild green chili. The chili was VERY tasty and the pork was well cook and also delicious. It's a little place that looks as if it been here forever but imo those are the best. It is located very close to the highway so it is very easy to get to. I will definitely make this a normal pit stop and you should too.

Yelp
My family loves El Nopal, when we all lived in Pueblo we would come here once a week! Taquitos, tamales, burritos, tacos are all good! Sopapillas too! We order the tamales by the dozen for holidays - so yummy! Green chili, guacamole and salsa are some of the best! Don't let it's appearance fool you... Inside are nice people and good cooks! An awesome place to go for authentic Pueblo Mexican food!! I go back every time I'm back in town.

Yelp
Drove down here in a wild snowstorm. Pueblo had maybe 1 inch of snow. Place closed due to weather. Went to Politios Beer Barrel a few blocks South. Very satisfied there. El Nopel's loss.

Yelp
This hidden gem called El Nopal is THE place to go in Pueblo, CO for authentic Mexican cuisine. The service was amazing, the food is HOT and fresh. The enchiladas with green Chile are my favorite!! I highly recommend El Nopal. The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly.

Ron A.

Yelp
Not the El Nopal I remember. 5 of our family had lunch with all of us ordering green chili on our burritos and enchiladas. we all ordered different levels of Spicy green chili but all levels tasted the same. Not only was the green chili spicy flavor off but the chili had a scorched aftertaste. very disappointing from a community known for its chilis and frijoles. Restaurant atmosphere was fine and wait staff were very cordial. We can no longer recommend El Nopal. as a go to as it was in our past.

James K.

Yelp
My family has been eating at El Nopal for over 60 years and the food is delicious and authentic and the Torres family is wonderful! Try their chicken and rice dinner and you will not be disappointed. Also, their monster burrito is unbeatable! Thank God they're still some locally owned restaurants left!

Yelp
What a great place! Thank you George and El Nopal for the delicious food. Had a family gathering and didn't want to cook. So the gang here hooked us up and we ate like kings! So easy. So generous. So good!

Yelp
This is one of the best Mexican restaurants ever. I love their food and friendly staff. Always fresh and delicious. I have not had a bad meal here. I love the chips and salsa and Mexican pizzas. The tacos are amazing. Always has the best green chili!! Literally everything is good. I have had almost everything on the menu over the years.

Yelp
Hmm. I think this place is on it's way down. I imagine that at one time it was a happening little spot, but it just doesn't cut the mustard anymore. One bright spot is the waitress was very nice. The chips and salsa were good. I had the chicken taco, beef enchilada and the chili rellano. I didn't like the chicken taco. It is a flour tortilla and it was very dry. No sauce on it - just dry chicken, lettuce and cheese. The enchilada and rellano were good but not great. Of course it had green chili on it. The green chili here could use more green chili and less salt. Just my opinion... The place was boring. This place is only 2 stars with out the waitress and excellent service.

Yelp
Better than average food here. Modest, dated interior. Attentive, friendly service. Great salsa, very good green chili, very good chili relleno. Should be even better during fresh chili season. Will be back then.

Yelp
Will NEVER EVER return here again. My parents, husband and I were looking for some good dinner. We read the reviews for this place and thought 'hmm seems good'. We were wrong. We arrived to the restaurant and we were not even greeted. I had to walk up to the cashier and asked if we could seat ourselves. We proceded to do so. In the process I saw 100 year old spider webs on the walls. The carpet was stained with food, and maybe even vomit. Needless to say the booths were falling apart and the curtain wall things were embeded with disgusting bits of old food. I kept telling myself that maybe the food was so good that they didn't have time to clean. Wrong again... I ordered steak nachos, husband and mom ordered enchiladas and dad ordered a steak. I took two bites of mine and left it, it was cold, soggy and tasted old. Enchiladas were okay, seemed like microwaved food but edible. My dad's so called "steak" is what drove me to think "how is this place still in business!??". They served him a ground beef patty and called it a steak! Why!?? It wasn't even a good beef patty anyway. The waitress saw some of the plates still full, offered a box. After we refused boxes she didn't even ask if we wanted something else or if she could have us talk to a manager. Mediocre service. All I wanted to do was get out of there. I normally do not enjoy leaving bad reviews but this place drove me to my limit. I would leave negative stars if I could. This has been the WORSE restaurant I have ever been to. I literally waited to get sick after I ate because I was sure that it would happen. I would be better off buying a frozen burger patty and eating it frozen than going back to El Nopal. NO THANKS!

Yelp
El Nopal is always a family favorite the salsa green chili and rice are always on point. We catered an event for about 250 people and they were able to deliver on time fast and friendly. I will always recommend this place to anyone. The bad reviews I see on here are from one time experiences and I hate when people review someplace after one bad experience it says a lot about the value of the review. I have come to El Nopal for nearly two decades and I have always been treated great. This restaurant is truly a Pueblo Gem.

Yelp
Bad experience. Stopped in on our way home from Manitou Springs. We wanted to eat at The Mill Stop Cafe up the road, but they were closed. The fact that they don't have queso should have been our cue to leave, but we were already there. While looking at the menu, our kids were fighting over the salsa. We asked the server for an extra little bowl. Her response? "Well we usually charge for that, but I'll make an exception." Another cue we should not have ignored. Being the optimists we are, we continued down a road of dissatisfaction. We ordered the kids a bean burrito plate. They ate it without complaints but then again their eat their own snot. Forgot what the wife ordered, but she said it was mediocre at best and they charged a fee for switching a cheese enchilada for the chicken it came with. Last time I checked, cheese was cheaper than chicken. I ordered a beef chimichanga. We asked for more chips as we waited for our meal, but guess what... "there's a charge for an extra bowl of chips". Out came the food. The first few bites were delicious, then I was overtaken by a mouthful of near ice cold beef. That was it for me. I notified the server who offered a new plate. But yeah, no thanks. The family finished their meal and we made a quick stop at Taco Bell to fulfill my desire for "Mexican" food. The server did the best she could, no complaints on her. If a Mexican food restaurant has to charge for that many things, just close your doors.

Yelp
Really good Green Chili, I had the pork Avacado Burrito and it was really good. I've never been here before, and I am definitely coming back!

Amy T.

Yelp
Delicious hot green chili and Mexican egg rolls. Salsa is delicious and full of cilantro, which I love. Not the fanciest place, but it has withstood the test of time and been open since the 1950s.

Yelp
Best salsa anywhere! Great food. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Light atmosphere.

Yelp
I've been here twice--never before and never again. If I could add sound effects, it would sound something like this- WLLEHCHK! Thank goodness they serve beer. It's hard to be part Mexican in Pueblo where the Mexican food is not so tasty. I should have suspected something when we walked in to El Nopal and there was nothing but a sea of white faces. That should have been my first indication that the food might be scary. The red sauce was a bland concoction of something other than red chile... maybe it was red bell pepper sauce?. I had to add a butt load of salsa to get any type of flavor. Then, there was the UNMELTED processed cheese in the middle. They use this cheese for everything, and it's unappealing. The wait staff was very good, but you can't flavor food with good service, and this is a perfect example that having your restaurant's name in Spanish doesn't equal having Mexican food.

Erica S.

Yelp
Great find! Service was excellent and delivered with the friendliness and attentiveness you would expect from a wait staff :) The food was excellent and overall decently priced. Mmmmmm enchiladas!

Yelp
Let's get to the point. There was my life before a meal at El Nopal and my life after that meal at El Nopal. Other than the birth of my children, and maybe a few other assorted events, this meal was the highlight of my existence. Spectacularly wonderful green chile. Microscopic prices. Fantastic salsa. If you don't like El Nopal, there's something deeply wrong with you, but don't worry. You're probably so far gone that you're beyond help. This restaurant is greatness stacked upon greatness. El Nopal should be placed on Mount Rushmore alongside Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington and John Quincy Adams.

Yelp
Bad service. Decent food. Atmosphere is just ok. I do not recommend especially when there are several choices on the same street.

Yelp
Interesting that my review has been placed in the "not currently recommended" category so people don't see it much. It is the truth. I agree with Dottie C's use of the word "wulecsch" to describe this restaurant. It was awful. I was wondering why my comment would be moved off the page so I looked it up. Apparently if you don't blather constantly on yelp, your comments don't get taken seriously. Since I only comment when I feel strongly one way or another...I have only made two comments this year. One good one for the vet and one really bad one for this restaurant. This should make the comment carry MORE weight...not less. Eat at this restaurant at your own risk...our stomachs were NOT happy and we didn't even finish our meals.

Eric N.

Yelp
Had a catered event from these folks. I haven't been to the restaurant, so thy piece is missing from the review. Breakfast burritos were excellent. Eggs cooked perfectly, potatoes and seasonings just right. Had chicken enchiladas were off the chart. Great green chili sauce as well. Highly recommend their food.

Yelp
Don't let the location or shabby condition of this restaurant fool you; the food is really good. I was especially impressed with the chicken tacos on white; they grill the taco so the shell is a little crispy and it tastes wonderful. Lots of white meat chicken in the filling too. The beef enchiladas are also really good. Try the hot green sauce; it is an excellent compliment to the enchiladas. I also enjoyed the chile rellenos. My husband tried the slopper; a hamburger patty on a good quality bun with fries; the whole dish was covered with red sauce. He really enjoyed it. We were in town only two days and ate here twice; yes, it was that good!

Abby W.

Yelp
Solid food, iffy service. Strong margaritas!

Alex W.

Yelp
Great thin, crispy, hot chips and delicious pork and avocado burritos.

Yelp
Nope the food isn't the best I've ever had, Nope the place isn't fancy but the folks who work here have always been nice. Why 5 stars? When you come in with three little children and the waitress actually still seems happy you are there? - 5 stars! When your three little children one after another manage to spill their milk and the waitress replaces their glasses with a knowing smile and still seems happy you are there? - 5 Stars When your potty training little ones ask to go to the bathroom for the 5th time during the meal and the waitress offers to take them so you actually get a chance to eat? - 5 stars! They've prepared food specially for me without blinking, they tell you the truth "that sauce is REALLY hot today I've tasted it", and probably best of all the next time you come they are still happy to see you.
