Eugene, Oregon’s Best Restaurants and Food Carts

"For those seeking out a quintessential Mexico City cart experience look no further than the street food served at this Whiteaker truck. There’s nothing more tuned to a morning pick-me-up than the huaraches, a sheet of toasted masa piled high with feather-light scrambled eggs, cheese, cilantro, and your choice of protein (options include cochinita pibil, carnitas, fish, carne asada, and al pastor). Tortas, sopes, and tacos made with freshly griddled tortillas are also available. Cap off the order with a hibiscus-mint aguas fresca — one of the best versions Oregon has to offer." - Brenna Houck, Eater Staff

I tried nearly one of everything in the menu. I enjoyed every single item. The tacos were my favorite with complex slow cook flavors. The tortillas were fresh and the flavors were superb. Add some lime and salsa and you have a perfect dish. I tried the grilled Cesar salad. The grill flavor was excellent! The dressing was perfectly fishy with an acidic bite. The staff was friendly and helped me order. I ended up ordering nearly everything! The margaritas were amazing. They were boozy, tart, and very refreshing. They went very well with our meal. I highly recommend coming here for a good time with food and friends!

After 8 wasted trips to their food truck, we saw they have a brick n mortar now near Meraki. After another couple of false attempts at the brick n mortar, it seems their hours are now reliable. The tortillas here are the best we have seen in Eugene. Thin and pliant. After trying one of everything, the fish tacos are our go-to but consistency could be improved. 1st time was crispy, subsequent visits were soggy, last time 1st one was soggy but 2nd one was crispy. We appreciate the kick in the spicy mayo, but its too much for our taste, so we usually just ask for no sauce. Kitchen forgets toppings sometimes, so if you want that cilantro or radish for example, ask. The housemade flan was very dense and rich, lacking any jiggle, more like a pot de creme. Do check when ordering at counter as menu does not always list all ingredients, we found the guacamole sometimes has grasshoppers?(some kind of insect), and the pico de gallo is not tomato but mango (this is listed on menu). The fresh chopped pineapple on our al pastor wasnt to our liking, but others may appreciate the fresh fruit. Taquitos were stuffed full with chicken, but it was stringy (had to floss) and fried greasy so there were pools of oil in the salsa verde. Lettuce was yellowish and had brown spots but avocado was fresh and creamy. We thought overall presentation is nice, but flavors are on the mild side, much like Tacovore. Service is friendly, and its spacious inside, and while currently they are on a limited menu, they said they were planning on expanding their offerings, so there is plenty of potential.

Google
I really enjoyed this. It seems like there is lots of room for growth in the future in terms of the space and the menu, but what existed was crafted with care. The menu had 4 taco options, 3 of which were pork and 1 was fish. I would have loved to see some chicken and veggie options in there but really liked the tacos I got, especially the fish taco. Their house Caesar was interesting - I wasn't sure if I was supposed to eat it with a fork or my hands the way it was presented, but I chowed through the whole thing. The dressing was on point and the charred romaine was goooood. I'll be back to sample the drinks another time!

Everything was delicious and prepared with care. Forgot to get photos of everything before we started eating, but presentation matched the quality of the dishes. Drinks were also fresh and tasty. Very authentic flavors mixed with modern touches and a casual, clean atmosphere. Will be back many times!

Can't go wrong with El Nopalito! Brother in law recommended we try it out. High end tacos which were fantastic!

Just the chips and guac alone are worth the 5 stars. Best salsa in Eugene. You can taste the love in their food. Best carnitas I've had in a minute too. Only con is they were only serving tacos and stopped serving food an hour before they were scheduled to close.

Nice vibes and presentation. Super tasty tacos. Drinks were exceptional, made with fresh fruit juices. Eugene needs more spots like this!

New location update! Now at 1203 Willamette. Food is incredibly delicious! Great margaritas too. Some tips for vegetarian meals. El Nopalito is usually able to substitute mushrooms, nopales or eggs for other proteins.

Yelp
Wow! I'm so glad I stumbled on this place while on errands. It is SO good. I got the asada taco (asada, onion, cilantro, avocado salsa) and a fish taco (beer battered cod, chipotle aioli, mango pico de gallo.) Both were delicious, hot, and all the ingredients were very fresh, with very generous fillings in the tacos. I like trying different fish tacos, and this is one of the best I've ever had. The presentation was nice too. The ceramic plates were a nice touch and not something I expected from a food cart. Very friendly staff. The cart is in a permanent food cart pod that has semi fenced-in, shaded/covered picnic tables to eat at, so it's comfortable. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Well, this place is adorable. I love their branding, the painted tables, and the look of their menu. It's all very pleasing. But what I am happy to report is that the food is also very pleasing. I couldn't find a menu anywhere online so I visited the location not knowing if there would be anything for me to order as I am a vegetarian. Lucky they have the mushroom quesadilla THAT I LOVED. I noted though it would be better if eaten sooner than later for the ultimate cheese melt experience. I ordered the pastor huaraches and he said he really enjoyed it. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
This place is so great! First visit today and very friendly fun staff. I had a few questions about the different options and he was kind to explain each one. I picked two Pastor Tacos, added Verde and the like squeezed on top! I will be back and the price is only $10 and all home made. Covered area to sit with friends or alone, great vibe overall.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST Mexican food in Eugene and most definitely the BEST food cart. Consistently good. Sources meat and fish from local vendors. Always fresh. I can't get enough of it and go back multiple times a week. You HAVE to try the fish tacos, weekend special, and all the things.

Yelp
My wife and I love tacos so we are always looking for a good taco joint. We have recently moved to Eugene from Southern California and can say confidently that these tacos will satisfy anyone looking for a good taco. Watching them hand make their tortillas is definitely a bonus.

Yelp
Saturdays El Nopalito offers specials which are true masterpieces. The specials are always delicious and served with an elegant presentation. This place is really fantastic, serving fresh made from scratch meals no matter what the weather is like outside. The covered area is perfect.
