Nothing makes me happier than seeing the word "Vegan" on a menu. El Nutri not only has it on their menu, it's also plastered across the front of their truck. They're not even all vegan but they sure do love to please their vegan clientele, a strategy that works rather well on this vegan client.
At so many Mexican restaurants and carts I am limited to ordering a bean, rice, lettuce and salsa burrito, maybe with some avocado. Sometimes the beans or the rice aren't even vegetarian, further limiting my options. At El Nutri you have two kinds of beans to choose from, rice, tofu, tempeh, soyrizo, vegan cheese, sour cream, chipotle aioli and a ton of toppings like mushrooms, grilled onions, potatoes, avocado, cactus and so much more. They also have my absolute favorite (and a deal breaker elsewhere): fresh jalapeño. I simply can't live without a burst of freshness and spiciness sprinkled on my food.
The myriad of combinations at El Nutri means I can have a favorite standard burrito (Chencho's) but also branch out to creative burrito combinations (like the chipotle tempeh) or I can keep it simple with a green taco- Beans, cheese, grilled onions, cilantro lettuce, tomatoes and avocado- a steal at $1.75, or go to town on some nachos-tortilla chips topped with beans, salsa fresca, avocado, Daiya cheese, Tofutti sour cream and jalapenos (sub fresh jalapeño for me, of course).
Overall, El Nutri has been the most reliable spot for me to get my Mexican craving satisfied and the one with the most options so I go there more than other Mexican places in town combined. It's always nice to see the same friendly face greet me and take my order, I'm always happy to hand over my money to a small business. They are soon moving into a restaurant space so you can sit down and enjoy the deliciousness meaning I will visit more often than just on sunny days. Thank you, El Nutri, you make my spicy mouth happy.
