Yelp
Oh, breakfast tacos. How I have missed you. Since moving many years ago to what appeared to be the barren taco wasteland of N. Dallas, you appeared like an oasis of hope when I first logged on to Yelp.com. How happy I am to know you are just a short trip away whenever I need your delicious goodness.
I had seen El Paisa on my many treks up and down I-35. A plain, nondescript restaurant tucked away on the northbound access road just past Sandy Lake Road. To be honest, I had written it off as not convenient enough for me to detour from my planned route to see if they met muster.
But then I logged onto Yelp and saw that many people thought they were worth the effort. So this morning I was up early and decided to give it a shot.
I was not disappointed!
I walked in and was pleasantly surprised. There have been comments about the place being dirty, but the order, pick up and dining area, while well-worn and a bit shabby, were clean, neat, and well-stocked. I didn't venture into the bathroom, so I don't have anything to report about that.
I ordered three breakfast tacos and a small drink. Too much food for one sitting, but I wanted to give what I consider my three go-to choices a try. The tab with tax was $4.93. At a buck ten each, the breakfast tacos are very reasonably priced.
First choice was a pappas con juevos (potato with egg). There were nice sized chunks of tender potatoes mixed in with well-seasoned, cooked through, but moist egg. I usually would salt and pepper my tacos, but the eggs were so flavorful, there was no need.
My second taco was a bacon and egg. The bacon was cooked crisp, but not dry. It was a nice, salty, flavorful slice. Mixed with the eggs that I liked so much from the first taco, this was another spot on great taco.
The third was chorizo and egg. I wasn't as pleased with this taco and only sampled a couple bites. With this taco, the eggs were a bit overcooked and dry and I have had better flavored chorizo. Not a complete loser, but probably not one I will get again since I liked the other two so much more.
The menu is pretty large and I look forward to trying some of their other items, including the barbacoa. I have already warned my husband that I plan on making this a regular weekend morning breakfast stop.
