The Best Mexican Food in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"It’s been a decade since chef Lindsey McLellan opened El Pavo Real in Broadmoor, a casual, family-friendly neighborhood joint, low-key and welcoming to all. Reasonably priced, and most of all, delicious, the tamales, mole, enchiladas, and all-day breakfast dishes are highlights of a succinct, fresh menu. Drinks are outstanding, using fantastic house agua fresca to liven up the margarita selection. Summer is coming — order that watermelon margarita." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Breakfast Tacos and Burritos in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This Broadmoor gem serves top-notch Mexican specialties for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. In addition to a breakfast burrito with carnitas, potato, egg, pintos, cheese, salsa ranchera, crema, and pico; El Pavo serves breakfast tacos Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m., for $2 a pop." - Clair Lorell

The Best Margaritas in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"This tiny joint in Broadmoor was BYO when it first opened, but now uses its fantastic agua fresca game to liven up its margarita selection. The selection changes seasonally but if they’ve got watermelon, definitely check it out. This place doesn’t really have a bar, but the only thing better than their margaritas here is their food, especially their traditional Mexican breakfast items (available all day) so sit down and tuck in." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Hangover Cures in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Luckily this tiny Broadmoor Mexican spot serves its breakfast items all day. With an excellent version of the traditional huevos, this place will leave you feeling happy, and not just from the food. The people are great and the seasonal margaritas are better. It has a killer chilaquiles too." - Clair Lorell

I met a friend here for his birthday. He selected the spot, I had not been here before. I am so glad he introduced me to this place. The atmosphere is warm, fun and colorful. The food was really good, an authentic Mexican cuisine. The service was also excellent, both friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back.

A solid Mexican option in New Orleans. My margarita was good, and I really enjoyed the chilaquiles – lots of flavor. The plantains with mole were also tasty. While I don't have a ton of NOLA Mexican food experience to compare it to, El Pavo Real definitely hit the spot.

How is it even possible to make chicken and cheese enchiladas that are this good!? Everything we ordered was amazing. Perfectly seasoned, came straight from the oven to our table. Great for families.

Food was good, as always, but service really fell short this time. I usually recommend this place to people looking for authentic Mexican food in New Orleans, but I was really disappointed today by the attitude of the server. He just had this attitude and annoyed look. I can understand they may be understaffed, but customers at not at fault, on the contrary, we go to a restaurant not only for the food, but also for the ambiance which also comes from the service that the staff provides. For a moment I considered not leaving a tip, but I left a good one anyhow, specially because there was a young lady who brought our plates to our table and she was (contrary to our server) very nice and has a big smile for everyone she had any interaction with. I really have mixed feelings about going back again.

One of my all time favorites… best tamales in Louisiana. Great service, food and killer drinks. Margaritas are on point and the beer is nice and cold. Love the atmosphere… a little “seat yourself” cafe style. The food is super fresh, house made tortillas and rotating specials, all a great price. 😎👍

10/10. Best Mexican food in the city. Unlike a lot of "boutique" mexican restaurants in this city, they make their tortillas in-house. Homey dining room that felt like my grandmas house. This is as authentic as it can get here. Will be returning. Food is priced great for the quality and the taste.

Always a great experience at El Pavo Re'al. Great, well priced, home cooked, Mexican fare. Thank you Ashley for your attentive service and for making us feel at home. Excellent Margaritas too, Cheers...

New to me place. The Peacock in English. Great service and excellent food. Deep, rich, flavors. Good prices. My 13 year old even loved it. I had enchiladas, and he had a burrito. The guacamole was great, and so were the plantanes. Solid place. We will go back.
