Proof that everything happens for a reason.
Had been trying to go to this restaurant for years. Something always made it so I wouldn't go. Cancellations, alternate plans, just not thinking about it - you name it and it happened.
Well, as it turns out, earlier this week was finally my time! Met up there to see a girlfriend after the original restaurant we intended on going to unfortunately closed.
Somehow miraculously we got the last table as they were packed on a Wednesday night, so here's my tip to you: make a reservation!
Anyhow, they have two tables outside and we got one of them. The staff predominantly spoke Spanish, so if you only speak English, it may be in your best interest to take a Spanish speaker with you.
In terms of their menus (yes, they have two - one for food and one for drinks), let me tell you that they are massive. We spent awhile perusing them and finally deciding what to order.
I had a glass of sangria that just was strong and fruity how I like it. My girlfriend had herself a Sprite. There we were contemplating what to order when the most delicious-smelling bread came. It was hot and soft and an amazing beginning to our meal.
Speaking of beginnings, we ordered two dishes as appetizers: a tortilla española and tostones con ropa vieja. The tortilla española was godly, especially with their aioli. It was something else. The tostones? Meh.
They weren't good admittedly. I found the ropa vieja flavorless and the tostones all right, but my girlfriend felt the opposite. Tostones were horrible for her and the ropa vieja was fine. At any rate, something was off about this dish.
For our mains, we both got the solomillo or filet mignon. We both had it well done. Scream now, but whatever. It was perfect for our taste. And the French fries we got with? Probably the best we've had in ages.
I wound up when leftovers and enjoyed them the next day. Absolutely delectable, especially with their cilantro sauce. I could seriously have that bottled to add onto a bunch of plates.
All that said, it was a lovely evening. The staff even took the tostones con ropa vieja off our tab. Now that's good service! Still, the most impressive thing about this place is that they've been feeding a family of duckies outside. We got to see them in action and it was so cute. Long live the duckies!
