El Portal Alicante - Krug Ambassade

Everything tastes better in a place like this. But having said that the food was absolutely gorgeous and you couldn't fault it. We tried scallops, mini Kobi burger (OMG, it was 'melt-in-your-mouth" good) and lamb shoulder. We sat at the bar counter and our server was friendly and professional. I'd recommend a booking especially when you're a group of 3 or bigger and make sure you confirm your booking in the email.

The atmosphere and wine was amazing however, the food is nothing to come here for. I saw some cocktails and they looked very delicious so perhaps order some pornstar martinis when you come here!! Definitely a place for light dinner, drinks and amazing atmosphere!

The very cool el portal was the place to go on my short trip to alicante. A place at the cocktail bar, l was entertained and enthralled by the excellent mixology shown by the staff. The epitome of professionalism and the quality of drinks and customer service makes el.portal stand out. The interior is moody and very jazz club vibes. The DJ played some great music too. While l never ate while l was here, the cocktails were sublime but with that comes the hefty price tag. The use premium alcohol which makes this place stand out but expect to pay for that. If you want a cool experience I'd highly recommend.

Well what a find we stumbled upon, wow just wow. We only stopped for drinks hence no score for food (we will be back to eat though 😊). The place was full but they found us a little spot which turned out perfect as we could watch the mixologists do their thing and it was great to catch them doing theatrics whilst creating the cocktails. Our mixologist was so friendly and she made us very welcome. Now the important question the drinks, answer they were very very good indeed. The music, atmosphere and friendly staff and other friendly patrons made the visit feel special. We look forward to returning soon.

In one word, IMPECCABLE! Michelin 5 star and the food, the atmosphere, the staff... Every detail catered for👌🏻 We met the chef, Sergio Sierra and congratulated him on the spectacular quality of his establishment. Dennis and Carlos looked after us, Dennis ensured that my specific dietary requirements were met plus went the extra mile to recommend me dishes and ensured the meals were done to perfection. Fantastic! Andrea the sommelier nice and friendly also. The place was exquisitely decorated to Moulin Rouge style - plush and decadent. The music jazz and hip, didn't disappoint. And the food was Amazing... The 2-colour tuna starter - Very good. The Angus beef cooked to perfection, just off blue , accompanied by potatoes - sublime - and a plain lettuce salad! Beers for my husband, good Brut cava for myself. And, the piece de resistance - the puddings... Arabian cake for him & mascarpone with berries for me. Good coffee and tea to finish with. Definitely recommend it - excellent - well worth the amazing experience! 💯

EDIT We would like to address some comments from the management 1. We were very excited to dine in your restaurant as it was our first night out in Spain and have no intention to hurt your business, we wanted to feedback management and let other customers have a better picture before dining there as we spent over 260Euros and were dismissed when we expressed our opinions. 2. We were never offered any meal/ dishes to be changed after expressing our disappointment in the food. Instead we were told “the seafood smell is strong, that is how it is, and it is fresh from today” 3. Yes we finished the shrimp, it was very small and was finished in one bite. However, we did not finish the rice as there were bad pieces of seafood which we did express to the waiter but he replied with the above comment. We are open to have a discussion with the management and you have our emails in our review and would like to halt any further finger pointing. Thank you for your reply and we look forward to hearing from you END Disappointing Experience Despite Michelin Guide We recently dined at El Portal, and it was a very disappointing experience, especially considering the Michelin Guide recommendation. First, the seafood was far from fresh. We ordered two prawns that cost €40, which was outrageous given that they were soggy, smelled off, and clearly not of high quality. The staff heavily pushed us to order the seabass and turbot, both priced at an astronomical €75 per kg, but we opted for the prawns instead—regrettably. The rice/paella dish lacked any complexity and was overwhelmingly salty, with no real depth of flavor. The lamb shoulder was mediocre at best—something that could easily be reproduced at a less expensive restaurant or even at home. The only redeeming factor was the wine, which, to be fair, was excellent and showcased the true treasures of Alicante. However, a good wine list doesn't make up for the lackluster food and inflated prices. Overall, this restaurant did not live up to its reputation, and we left feeling very let down.

First, I'm a multimillionaire so don't come at me about questioning the price. 2nd, I live in Spain, so I know there is better food to be found for a lot less. I got food poisoning from the shrimp which were massively undercooked and were not deveined. I am half Japanese so I can eat raw, but it was not supposed to be raw. The bill for me and my golf buddy was 183.15 A bottle of Alhambra Especial was 8 euros. Folks, 6 bottles are under 5 euros at the store. 4 small shrimp for 69 euro and they were supposed to be grilled, but were raw! I had dinner at a few more places during my stay in Alicante and had delicious food for half the price. Do not go here! Look at the ratings. Food is not worth the price.

Excellence defined… Food quality was some of the best we’ve had in all of Europe. Romantic yet sophisticated with fun vibe. Only regret is not being able to go again. We over ordered and recommend every thing …. As every dish approached we were wowed! From the burgers to the fries to the cauliflower…. Book here!
