The 11 Best Restaurants At George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) - Houston - The Infatuation

"Gate C34 In general, airports are sickeningly bright. Really, how much overhead lighting can the human mind take before your eyeballs start to sizzle? Enter El Premio Tex-Mex Bar & Grill. The restaurant feels delightfully dark despite being zig-zagged with a million multi-colored string lights. Let those peepers rest, then order a burger drenched in queso. " - Chelsea Thomas

Google
First off you're at the airport so prices are going to be a little higher . 2nd of all there is always going to be people who don't enjoy great food , are in a rush or just going to complain . If you're in houston traveling thru you definitely want to try this place. I stopped for breakfast , the coffee was strong great robust flavor . I ask for half and half for coffee and it wasn't in a packet it was in a small creamer cup. For breakfast my order was cooked to perfection came out hot and fresh . Was nice portion for the price and restaurant staff was key . Noticed my coffee was half full and filled it back up. Go give it a try

Google
Absolutely ridiculous, no greeter no cleanliness, food was prepared in front of us behind the counter, look delicious, and cook said yeah it was done they have it back there should have brought it never got it, when asked got a rude answer saying someone will bring it. Was not busy, totally unclean, and then the portion of my meal was great but my partners hers was absolutely a joke. When approaching the counter for a glass of water just so I could have something to drink with my sandwich I got a rude reply. Not worth it.

Matt McLean

Google
Definitely a good place for Tex-Mex food at Houston international airport. I came here for lunch and they were not all that busy so I was seated right away. I ordered the classic enchiladas and they were great food. It was a good amount of food and the enchiladas were flavorful. So if you're in terminal C and you're looking for good Tex-Mex, this is the place to go.

Google
This is typical airport food, expensive and OK at best. The server did a good job considering he was the only one there. The food came out cold and was fast food quality. Not saying it was horrible, but I wouldn't go there again when I have a layover in Houston again (which is a lot).

Google
Great spot at the airport to get some good food. Service was great and very attentive. Definitely the place to be for breakfast, lunch or dinner

Akshay Saksena

Google
This is what i got for 32 dollars. A cold meal. It looks like the so called “chef” just throws food on the plate without even heating it. They charge you in advance and the server added a tip of 18% without even asking me. % is not an issue but the service was bad too.

A Wheeler

Google
The food actually tasted good, but the prices were astronomical and the serving size was small. We ordered the nachos and a chicken burrito and spent $47. No drinks. The nachos were short on chips and there is a $5 charge to order more chips. A small drink was $4.50. We don’t drink sodas, but ludicrous, nonetheless. Our burrito took over an hour to arrive (at an airport) and no discount was offered.

Sueki L

Google
The menu is large and the food is okay. However, it’s a bit pricey, and the service and food took some time.

Ben O.

Yelp
finally. something in an airport that is quick and good. don't let the prices fool you they give u more than u can eat (most people) the quesadilla is huge. smothered burrito is really good. balance between Houston and airport food. but they don't skimp on quality either. def worth the try.

Yelp
Barely mediocre restaurant in the Houston airport's C Terminal. We had an unexpected layover and stopped in the restaurant for a "Tex-Mex" dinner. Most of the tables were communal, or family style. You could order at the table using either your phone with a QR code, or with the waitress. To start, my husband and I ordered two Mojitos which were extremely weak and unmuddled. We decided on two taco plates -- one chicken tinga, and one short ribs. I also got an iced tea. The food arrived relatively fast, but was lacking inspiration, style and taste, to say the least. There were three street-style tacos each, with a small dollop of a stewed meat, and a dusting of red cabbage, accompanied by a ladle of refried beans and a small portion of dried out, chewy Spanish rice. It would not have taken much more in the way of food preparation, presentation or effort to have made a nice meal. All in all, our bill was nearly $100 + tip. The taco plates were around $25 each, which was ridiculous, even for airport food. Leaving a tip was also confusing. Since we used the interactive system to place our order, the waitress's only job was to bring us our food. There was little, "service, "involved. The waitress was nice. The problems with this restaurant are on a larger scale which seems to be serving the largest number of guests the fastest, with food that could have come from a can, and then charging as much as they can get away with. Our experience was very disappointing.

Yelp
If you're going to rip me off on price, please give me a good food ..... I had chips guacamole and a soda and it was $30 The chips were mediocre. The cheese dip was the type of that you get at 7-Eleven cheese sauce guacamole was definitely Cisco.
google avatar

Greg C.

Yelp
I get it - you're in the airport, so you're gonna get bent over. But it was $50 for a quesadilla and a bottle of water. You scan a bar code, then order and pay with your phone. And then someone will drop off your order at the table. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to automatically drop a 20% tip on this business model. There were some chips and salsa included - the chips were home made (a bit oily) and the salsa was flavorful. The quesadilla was ok - it was a large portion. The rice was dry. Overall, about what you would expect from an airport. I'm definitely deducting points for the poor value for your money. Deal with it.
google avatar

Brandi B.

Yelp
Ordered the sticky bun muffin and they were sold out so Elizabeth the manager was great and exchanged it out for their delicious French toast. Great service and will stop again when at the airport.

Yelp
Forget the 1.5 star score here. Sure, it's an airport Tex-Mex bar and it's not winning any awards but I just sat down, ordered a beer and witnessed this: A man, incredibly drunk and about to board a plane, hitting on his two female bartenders. He didn't seem to have a specific target nor did he seem to be coherent enough to realize they weren't the same person. He openly confessed his love and generously offered to take one? Both? On "vacation." One catch: one, or both, would need to "share a bed" with him. Smooth. I watched one bartender pretend to take his number and swear to take him up on the deal, while slyly flashing yours truly a quick wink to indicate there was zero chance in hell she was actually writing the number down. Superb. I don't know anything about the food but this theatre whilst waiting for a plane is priceless. 5 stars

Yelp
Chicken tinga tacos were amazing and service was top notch. Jera took care of us today and was quick, professional and provided excellent service.
google avatar

Heather M.

Yelp
Don't get the Aviation here; it tastes salty, like a margaritas, and is tiny, tiny. Ordering is through QR code only, the processing screen just turned and turned even after I got my drink. If you're going to force us to use the technology, maybe make sure it works?
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
During a short layover I stopped by and grabbed my travel go to, a mule and a burger. The burger was ample in size and delicious. The fries were fresh and crisp. The burger became a bit messy based on assembly. The sauce and veggies were at the bottom which created a bit of a slip and slide competition. We'll definitely grab a burger again if I'm in the area. The intent is to order through the QR code App but there were some issues, but the server was quick on her feet and took care of everything.
google avatar

Suzanne H.

Yelp
Worst "Mexican" food ever. Worse than Del Taco. $77 for carnitas tacos, fish tacos, ice tea, lemonade and auto 18% tip. The alleged "waiter" aka people who bring food to the table, were awful. Robots could do better job. I asked for salsa--you have to order it with the QR code. The beans and rice were edible. See pic of my burnt fish tacos. You needed a chisel to get the burnt batter off. Unbelievable even by airport food standard
google avatar

Drew O.

Yelp
I dont get the negative reviews for this airport restaurant l. I had breakfast. You seat yourself. Employees were very nice and helpful. Order with a QR code menu. The breakfast quesadilla waS great. Could use more bacon and side of sour cream. I left full.
google avatar

Erin N.

Yelp
During our visit we experiences Good service, polite, staff. Had the burger and it didn't disappoint. Not sure why their rating is so low.
google avatar

Nadia B.

Yelp
I had an hour in between my flight. Service was so slow. Waitstaff is inefficient and very low energy. The lady working, I thought may be stoned. Overpriced and food awful and service awful. I can see how other places are much busier.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Food quality is okay, but their automated ordering system is terrible. We had a server offer to enter our order on her tablet and open a tab with our credit card. The server then mistakenly entered several other orders on our card and gave herself an 18% gratuity. When I pointed out her error, she informed me that my credit card had already been charged and that I would need to fill out a refund request. After one week, I have yet to see a refund issued to my card. What a hassle! I will never visit any restaurant at IAH again (tip- they are all owned by the same company). Use extreme caution if you decide to visit any of the restaurants at this airport.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
I was going to be generous and give it 3 stars but agree 2 is appropriate. Service was not friendly and food was overpriced to say the least. I had the fish tacos and the flour tortillas were same as you get in the grocery store plus rice was super dry/stale and bland. I'll give them credit on the fried cod. Ambiance is cool, lively, looks high end which is probably what drew me in but there's no way this place lasts. If I'd had consulted Yelp like I usually do, I would've skipped it. Lesson learned.
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
During our layover we stopped and had dinner/drinks here. Excellent service and quesadillas were just right. Better quality than most airport restaurants. Lots of seating and TV's.

Joe H.

Yelp
Pro tip: don't eat here. Another pro tip if you didn't listen to #1: Definitely don't tip. Tiny portions. Ridiculous prices. No service. Horrible quality. I don't know how any Houstonian can look at themselves in the mirror after serving Tex Mex this bad - in Houston. Not that they really serve you.
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
We had salads here and they were delicious. Service was incredibly fast (but still friendly), and the plugs available at every table was a nice touch. I could have lived without the blaring music and screens everywhere, but that's typical at an airport. Good spot to grab a bite between flights.
google avatar

Yelp
FML!! Why didn't I read the reviews first ... I know better. Well if you're a lucky one that does read this ... just turn away and go elsewhere. Seriously not worth the $$ you worked so hard to earn!! First off ... I hate this order on your phone idea when the bartender is staring at me waiting to punch things in. I'm over it. Traveling is stressful enough ... someone take care of me!! But that's exactly what this was and you tip before ever seeing anyone ... WTF?!? Next ... if you're going to charge 8.00 for chips n salsa and 26.00 for beef tacos they better be FIRE!! But nope this was weak, dead in the water, never order again food. First the salsa verde was more like a cucumber soup with no flavor, the chips were decent but oily, and the salsa roja barely saved the moment. At least it had a semi mild spice to it. But don't let the glimmer of praise fool you. Next the tacos ... meat was ok, but the corn tortillas were soggy, soft, and not worth eating. So I scraped off the meat and ate it with my chips. The beans were not refried they were flavorless soup and the rice ... so bland!! I dumped the roja salsa on them to at least make them edible. Then the Paloma was awful as well. I was hoping the cocktails would win me over. Nope!! Overall 65.00 bucks later and utterly disappointed.

Yelp
For some reason the QR code wouldn't scan on my phone, after being ignored by the bald bartender with glasses for a solid 30 mins. He rolled his eyes and looked at me under his thick glasses and said uh did you have a question. I said I just wanna order a drink. He replied use QR code. I didn't have the chance to finish my sentence before he rushed off. I get that he's busy but like very rude. lol this was the $37 salads I paid $9 for chicken and this is how much I got
google avatar

Lynnann W.

Yelp
It is incredibly non-personal? There are iPads at every table and set up that strangers are sitting next to you, at same table only divided by the machines to swipe your card. The machines were sketchy and it was time consuming to order/pay and your only option is to deal with the machines. Thereafter, service is slow which is not a plus in an airport. In the end, we only had a drink here and ate elsewhere in the airport to avoid further disappointment.
google avatar

Vicey R.

Yelp
You sit anywhere you'd like and order from an iPad on the table. Surprisingly, the food was hot and tasty. I wasn't expecting bold flavors from an airport restaurant. The burger gets a 8/10. The fries were great as well. I got a ginger ale for the drink and total price was $30.49!!!!!! The gentleman that brought at the meal and refilled my drink was super friendly and attentive. The manager was going around table touching, he nice and friendly. I just can't believe the price but I assume it's do to it being in the airport.
google avatar

E S.

Yelp
No! Don't go here! The tip should go to you. Had to direct the wait staff to get the drinks we ordered, the coffee refill, overpriced and not great food.
google avatar

Steph B.

Yelp
Sadly this is not a representation of Houston TexMex. My food was served cold, tasteless and the server barely gave me the time of day. Odd since the place was almost empty. No excuse
google avatar

Maria-Elena T.

Yelp
This place was conveniently located at the end of the terminal and in front of my departing gate. It's expensive and it seems confusing to order at first on the iPad. Chips a little greasy. Now onto the good stuff... I was able to order chips with queso, guac, and beans by just ordering the queso and then ordering the other 2 as sides which it asks when you get to that page. All were really good. I may skip the guac next time. It's a lot of food. Margarita was good. The music is upbeat and a perfect volume. It's very bright. Clean. TVs well placed. The bartender was extremely patient with me as I asked a million questions.
google avatar

Jeanie S.

Yelp
Staff can't be bothered to help. Had to ask for rag to clean a filthy spot to sit. Had to get up to ask for water. Bill ties to auto add 18% tip?! Massively overpriced mediocre food in a loud, dirty atmosphere with uncomfortable chairs & worst service. Obviously no management or care.
google avatar

Nilgun K.

Yelp
Price is high, portions are minuscule, taste great. We ordered two orders of chicken fajita, a bottle of still water. The size of the dishes are very small. I guess they want to fight the obesity crisis in the US. This restaurant is located at Terminal C.
google avatar

Mila F.

Yelp
Um I wanted to give 2 stars but in summary: I left the restaurant hungry. And I can't justify that. Pros first then we'll get to the meat of it : once you order, they're fast you don't have to interact too much with a waiter at all. It's all paid for upfront so you can get up and leave when you're done. Nice interior and charging ports in an airport on every table is a plus. The Meat: Usually some reviews are just disgruntled, you know bad day, off day, something - but the overall reviews are right. The food is too expensive even in an airport to be this bad. I ordered breakfast and that's hard to mess up. I just didn't like it. You can see in my picture the bacon is burnt to a crisp. I tried to nibble the less burnt parts and it was just so oily I couldn't even finish a strip. So not getting my bacon sucked. The bread wasn't even warm. How is it toasted, cold and stale all at the same time? Potatoes. They were potatoes. Eggs were okay. Ambience: 5 /10. Modern, nice decor. Service: 5/10. Fast and pleasant but you must order through the QR code on the tablet. Food: -8/10. And that's what we're here for. Ate what I could and I'm still hungry. Overall: 1/5 stars
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
Seriously the prices here are truly horrendous. My wife and I spent $97 on two salads and a nacho. My wife has to eat gluten free and you can add a note to your order which we did advising gluten free needed and of course the salad dressing turns out is not gluten free. Very disappointing. Very loud, chaotic and not an enjoyable experience. Of course airport everything is very greedily overpriced but for the small portions and poor food quality this felt like I was mugged in a back alley. I will not eat here again. There are some other slightly better options I'll try in the future.
google avatar

Tansy W.

Yelp
The prices here are insane, even for an airport, but the food was decent and on the better end for airport food. Got the guacamole and chips, which was pretty average. Also got the chicken quesadillas, which were pretty good but the side of rice they came with was SUPER bland and mostly inedible. Service was fairly quick. Not much interaction with any waiters; you just order on your phone after scanning a QR code.
google avatar

Ravi K.

Yelp
It was not busy hence decided to eat at this place. Ordered Tacos. They were tasteless and costed me $30. Not worth it. Now I know why it was not busy although the airport was.
google avatar

Chuck T.

Yelp
Took almost 30 minutes to get a $22 egg sandwich that went straight into the trash. I don't know how a restaurant could make something so poorly with that much time. And it was 6am when I ordered. The place was empty. But maybe that's because everyone else knew better.
google avatar

Bryce B.

Yelp
Terrible food but good service if you just want some drinks,TV, and a place to charge your electronics.

Teigan N.

Yelp
$26 dollars for bread with no sauce, only steak and a piece of cheese. $18 regular sized margarita... go somewhere else!
google avatar

Sharon L.

Yelp
I wanted a quick bite for my 1 hour layover I had in this airport so I stopped by here to charge up my phone cause there's apparently chargers everywhere. The seat I was at, none of the charging ports were working, so I was disappointed lol Anyway I ordered some chicken tacos, and it took a bit to get to me, with the little touch screen saying "Order is being delivered" for like 10min before I actually saw someone bringing the food to me so I had to eat in a big rush ugh. The food was very meh as well. I was starving though, so I ate everything. It wasn't bad either, and my expectations weren't high so it was whatever. Pro tip is to check if the charging port is working before you sit down haha
google avatar

Requel P.

Yelp
A very basic, if you have no other option, breakfast to eat. And pretty expensive for this basic meal. I tried this restaurant because it was very appealing. I was waiting on my morning flight and wanted to sit & have a nice breakfast. I ordered my drink & breakfast plate from the iPad. The server informed me that they didn't have my drink available so I just got the meal. When I got my plate, my bacon was cold, the scrambled eggs were plain to my taste so I added salt & pepper. It was nothing interesting or exciting about. The place looks better than how the food tastes. I would've gotten a much better meal at Waffle House for the price I paid. Nonetheless, maybe some of their other options are better or maybe it's just a good place to get a drink. I don't know yet.
google avatar

Jill K.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. The menu clearly describes something different than what we received. When I asked about the salsa etc I was told that only comes on the tacos served at the tables. Really? $19 for these? The 'to go' tacos are disgusting cold egg and cheese on a stale corn tortilla. Completely misleading, DO NOT order from this establishment.

The P.

Yelp
Took 40 minutes to make one burrito... almost made me miss my flight. Long day of traveling and only had that time to grab food. Had to leave before getting my burrito. Staff was rude, lazy, and didn't care. Now it's a day of traveling with 0 to eat. Thank El Porko Maldito!!!
google avatar

Dana M.

Yelp
Grabbed food on the go for my flight from IAH. Amazing avocado breakfast tacos and potatoes. Also great black coffee. I was pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to my next layover through IAH.
google avatar

Aarti B.

Yelp
Super expensive subpar food - $25 for a mediocre quesadilla. The bland spinach and mushroom quesadilla was underwhelming and definitely not worth $22. It didn't match the appetizing menu pic - misleading false advertising! My hubby's chicken tacos didn't fare much better. The sad lookin' guac was brown and so nasty that I had the waitress take it back and swap it out for some sour cream (I almost never do take-backs). The giant margarita was the saving grace and worth the $20+. Between my hubby and I, we just ordered a quesadilla, chicken tacos, and shared a margarita totaling to $70 (including tip and tax) for a mediocre meal. Ironically, the most expensive meal we've had all month was at the airport and also the worst. On our return flight, we had a layover in the same terminal and glad we ventured out and tried Gavi's next door. We spent 1/2 as much with a better meal (not great, but def better!).

Kyle B.

Yelp
Ordered chips and salsa to snack on. Received about half as many chips as would be needed to finish the salsa (unless drinking salsa is what they expect you to do). When we asked about more chips, "I'll see what I can do" was the response. After 10 minutes of "seeing," we gave up and left. Probably should have just drank the salsa. Would have been a better choice than the $19 margarita that tasted like all sugar and no tequila. Guess that $1 upgrade for reposado was just "essence." 0/10. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Alma R.

Yelp
Avoid this place. Service, food and my margarita were bad. Wish we'd checked Yelp before we came here. My husband's Mezcal Mule was delicious!! His spiced Imposible tacos weren't spiced per his description. They brought his tacos out a good 10 minutes before they brought out my COLD carnitas tacos. I returned them because they were inedible. The fries were very hot and fresh. Hard to get our server's attention. What a shame. Great opportunity to show people from around the world good Tex Mex or Mexican food.

Monique G.

Yelp
Service horrible. Everything automated. Only have 15 character limit making impossible to add notes with an added allergy. Apparently all food pre-made so no real substitutes. Finally got a real person and asked for tap water and lemon and she never came back. I want my tip back. My food came out piece meal. Skirt steak was overcooked. Frijoles were creamed. Rice was old and hard. Sides were either unavailable or showed up when meal 75%complete. Requested refund for items not received and will take 48 hours for response...... Hell, now that tried, I want a full refund!!!! Will never be back as $81 completely not worth it. Stay away.......

Holly B.

Yelp
Disgusting. $35 for the worst beef enchilada I've ever had. Rice and tortilla was hard as plastic. Couldn't even cut through it because they actually did give me a plastic fork. Didn't touch the beef, looked like food poisoning waiting to happen.

Bella T.

Yelp
Amazing service great food, if you're in the airport would definitely recommend. Thank you to the amazing servers and bartenders. Tito's was my waiter and he did and amazing job!

Susan Y.

Yelp
Wait staff were very nice, helpful and friendly. The food, however, leaves much to be desired. $29 for an order of chicken fajita. The refried beans tasted canned with no seasoning. Very little chicken. The peppers and onions minuscule. The rice was present. The highlight was steaming hot tortillas. The food was dwarfed by the plate.
google avatar

Mrs B.

Yelp
the menus on the self service do not list the actual ingredients that come on the food...so it's a complete mystery what you get and they cop a major attitude when you bring this up to them...

Marisa F.

Yelp
Okay so I have a theory. You have to order and pay with auto tip included before the food comes and you can choose the tip percentage. I opted for 15% instead of the auto 18% because I have to order my own food. The bartender is basically just a food runner. So I think they can see the tip and treat you accordingly. So of course my service was poor, the food portion was small (enchilada came with salsa instead of red sauce), and he gave me a plastic knife?!? Yeah he definitely saw my tip. Don't waste your money, this place ain't cheap.

Shari B.

Yelp
After a long day of travel and a late arrival we found ourselves super hungry at IAH. While the QR code ordering was a bit challenging, Cassie made up for it with her positive attitude and exceptional service. She's a super star!
