"This restaurant on the edge of the historic Cimadevilla district describes itself as an “urban, market-inspired restaurant”. What is certain is that Álex Sampedro’s cooking has moved away from the more commonplace dishes of the area to focus on an updated take on traditional cuisine that demonstrates high levels of technical skill in dishes featuring subtle seasoning, fine textures and the freshest seasonal ingredients (foie gras pizza, hake balls with a prawn sauce, "El Recetario"-style tripe etc). Undoubtably Gijón's best restaurant. I cannot fault this place, it excels in every possible way. I have eaten at many of the best restaurants in Gijón and none can beat El Recetario in terms of value for money. Our bill was quite literally half the price of similar restaurants in the area, and the same, if not better quality food. I absolutely recommend to order many half portions off their menu and try a variety of dishes! Top recommendations would be the seafood meatballs and the lemon sorbet dessert, you can't leave without trying it! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, they are always respectful and accommodative. They are more than happy to advise you on portion sizes and recommended dishes. The interior is welcoming, with a dedicated wine bar area and a more purpose-fit dining area as well. It's great to sit by the window and unwind! 10/10

It’s alright. The wine was great, there was nothing outstanding about the food. Didn’t quite like the flavors. I feel that restaurants that drown the food in sauces or cream don’t really make an effort on the actual flavor of their food. It was ok. Friendly staff and comfortable ambiance. Affordable

If I had to eat my last meal in Spain, I would invite all my friends to El Recetario de Alex Sampedro, and order the whole menu to share. This restaurant is incredible, the staff are amazing, the food is consistently muy muy rico. I can’t explain how wonderful this place is.

Expensive for the quantity and extra quality of the food. One waitress spoke fluent English the other almost refused to do an effort. A lot of show to eat a lot of expensive bread. A bit disappointing for a Michelin restaurant, they recommended better places in Spain and all over Europe. Deserts were great!

Delightful staff, quality food. We basically ordered a variety of half portions which is a great option for tasting. The empanadas are amazing, the ensaladilla superb.
