"This traditional, family-run restaurant in the small town of Llanes has definitely moved with the times, given that the original “chingre” founded by chef Ricardo González Sotres’ grandparents now boasts a look that combines modernity, rusticity and authenticity - an aesthetic enhanced by its natural rock walls. The gastronomic focus is clear here: contemporary Asturian cooking with a focus on technique and creativity, a respect for local ingredients, plus a strong desire to please the palate. Choose between delicious dishes on the à la carte (the grilled pigeon is a particular highlight) and two mouthwatering tasting menus: one, the traditionally inspired Pancar, the second, the more gastronomically focused San Patricio, which takes its name from the local chapel in Pancar and the famous holm oak (over 300 years old) that stands at the entrance to it." - Michelin Inspector

We had the tasting menu in the “retreat” part of the restaurant (the bistro is at the front as you enter). We ate in the back room which was spacious and a has calm, relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The wine list is extensive and there are plenty of good things to drink without breaking the bank. I’d allow around 3 hours for the tasting menu meal. It’s not a cheap night out but it’s very highly recommended.

Another out-of-the beaten-path restaurant! Outstanding in all categories. A little explanation of their award-winning dishes should be included with servings. Good portions and very flavorful. Cannot be missed. Reservation advised. Highly recommended

We had the most amazing lunch yet today. The tasting menu and wine pairing was just incredible. The flavours and the food presentation was so amazing.

having done our share of Michelin restaurants over the past few years - decided to partake again, however a little disappointed here. Spain has the best the world has to offer - though a little underwhelmed after this experience. The staff were lovely - but not trained to the correct level. Several times we had to ask for drinks, or plates once our dinner was already served. Michelin star deserves better service levels - as does the price. Our turbot was undercooked & could not remove from the bone - so had to send back & 2nd time only just ok. Overall - the price level was ok, but just falling short of requirement for the aspiration. Hardware is in place as the room is lovely - needs a software upgrade & better training.. Steak tartare was good, also the octopus, pigeon, fillet steak & chicken rice - but nothing outstanding.

I thought it was a joke. We were doing a trip to a couple of Michelin star restaurants in the region and this one was definetly the worse one. We came to El Retiro lured by good reviews and one Michelin star. We asked the waiters if they can offer us a tasting menu without meat. They happily said yes and we started. It all begun very nice with 3 meticulous starters. Delicious! But what came after that was a joke! A piece of hard avocado, then a fish, then another fish very similar in taste and texture and then a platter of very strong cheeses! If you are a Michelin star restaurant and you offer a modified version of your tasting menu, you should think it over. It made no sense. We felt cheated. On top, you charge an extra 5 euros for a very mediocre bread. I would not recommend this place and I'm very surprised you still have the star.

Excellent Michelin star restaurant, great champagne selection (even dough I missed the ‘Blanc de Blancs’ 100% Chardonnay options), nice decorations and professional staff. I loved the oysters and the red tuna & sardines plate; the sweets are also great as they aren’t excessively sweet and they propose very interesting tastes. To get the restaurant from Llanes is very easy, it’s just a 5 mins trip in a cab or 15mins walk.

The kiwi Gazpacho, the Merluza, and the dark chocolate cake with coffee ice cream were out of this World. Elena provided us with Superior service. The Michelin star is well deserved. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had the tasting menu. Quite delicious. Ricardo has a special way with flavour combinations which is unique in my experience. The staff were delightful and very attentive. We ate and drank enough for a week but would rush back if we had the chance. Loved it.
