13 Iconic Miami Dishes Available for Takeout and Delivery - Eater Miami

"A frita is a Cuban style burger made with a ground beef (and sometimes pork) patty cooked on a griddle with onions and crispy shoestring fries plus spiced ketchup on a fluffy Cuban bread roll. El Rey de las Fritas has been serving these up since 1976 and even has variations which include a fried egg and fried cheese. Takeout, delivery, and curbside pickup." - Stacy A. Moya

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was delicious—classic Cuban flavors with a fresh twist. The service was warm and fast, and the atmosphere made us feel right at home. 💵 We spent around $10–20 per person, which is an amazing value for the quality. 🍽️ We dined in, and everything came out hot and flavorful. 🔊 The noise level was quiet, easy to talk, making it great for conversation. Highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a true Miami gem!

Google
Very good cubano sandwich, I always slightly more mustard and pickles.

Google
Is understandable that prices has gone up, but we were very disappointed about the size of the actual meat size and how thin it was. We also asked for onions and four little onions were put, not onion slices it was little pieces. The mamey and the guarapo was real good. Asking to consider the size of the frita’s meat size to improve

Google
You don’t get more authentic than El Rey de la Frita! It truly is the best frita in town & possibly anywhere. The meat and seasoning are on point and the bread it’s served on is freaky and sister. Both my husband and I had the original frita with onions and it was delicious. I also ordered a “batido de Mamey” (Mamey Shake) and it truly is the best batido anywhere. And the service was excellent. It is a joy to go to an establishment where everyone from the server at the window to the 3 cooks, everyone was smiling, helpful, fast, efficient, and kind. The place was packed for a Saturday afternoon at 3pm. I haven’t had a fritas in decades and I was craving one the last few weeks. I’m so happy I waited to come here. If you’re in the neighborhood (or not) come and enjoy!

Google
Enjoyed the visit to this restaurant. The cuban fritas were amazing!!! Loved the counter service where you can see your fritas being freshly prepared. The tamale and mamey shake were also outstanding. Both were extremely tasty and the mamey shake wasn’t too sweet as it often is at restaurants.

Google
The best Cuban fritas everrrr. You just can't have one you'll want more. They fresh natural juices .The food , service and atmosphere was great.

old salty

Google
I went specifically for the "original frita" which to me are delicious!!. This location, bird road, is limited in space and sitting is only available on 2 counters. Service was very good considering the place was packed with customers when I visited.

Google
There are several really good Cuban Fritas in Dade County. You go to them and you are happy. However when you go back to El Rey De las Fritas you realize real quick why it's called El Rey. They are the KINGS of the Cuban frita. That original Cuban frita here is simply FIRE!!!

Yelp
They're not fancy, but expect efficient service and great food served quickly and with a smile. The Frita burger is the star of the show for us, it's a mixed chorizo and beef patty served on a traditional bun, with crispy shoestring potatoes on top. There are several variants, you can get cheese, an egg etc. The menu features a bunch of other options ranging from Cuban sandwiches steak sandwiches and various platters. The atmosphere is always very friendly and we usually have nice chats with people sitting at the counter with us! Recommended!

Yelp
This place is bussin'! We had the Pan con Bistec, and let me tell you, it's hands down one of the best in Miami. The steak is perfectly seasoned and so tender.. it's absolutely delicious. They also make a fantastic café con leche to go with it. If you're looking for an authentic Cuban breakfast, this place is a must-stop. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The food is great. The service is a totally different issue. After eating half our sandwiches our fries were still missing. It's important, because it part of the experience. Our order was given to the people that came in after us and were immediately served our fries. After finally asking 30 minutes later, the waitress confirmed our order was given to someone else. The overcrowding that happened with very heavy set people and kids overcame the seating capacity and made the area extremely cramped. It's a shame, because it's good food. Unfortunately cannot be enjoyed. More attention was paid to the Uber pick up drivers. What's funny is my husband is judging the entire scene as he is an executive chef and noticed the chaos causing an unfavorable dining experience. Unfortunate.

Yelp
This place is a neighborhood gem. It's aesthetics are simple not frills or bows. Just straight to the point delicious food. The service is quick and to the point. Which is very appreciated during the busy rush of lunch time.

Yelp
One of the originals! Authentic Miami frita! When I'm in the mood for a classic frita, this location is my go-to.

Yelp
Great little Cuban Cafe on Bird Road! One of the best places to order a Pan con Bistec or fritas, a cortadito, a mamey or mango shake, among other delicious options. The service is outstanding, with very friendly servers that are quick to take your order. Not fancy, but if you like good Cuban food, this little cafe should be on your list.

Yelp
I can't believe that I've lived in Miami my entire life and never been here. I was in the mood for pan con bistec so my boyfriend (who knows I'm super picky) confidently suggested this spot. It did not disappoint. We walked in for a late lunch and the place was MOVING. I love that you can sit at the counter and watch the food being made. This was the best pan con bistec I've had in Miami and the service was in point. He had a croqueta preparada, which was also super yummy! For a quick no frills meal, be sure to stop in and tip well!

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in a New Years Day and were glad to see that they were open. My husband and I sat at the bar. A woman then greeted us and took gave us menus. I was surprised to find that they had so many options as I have only really only had fritas here. My husband ordered his usual frita but I went with the ham omelet sandwich. I asked for the crispy fries on the side as I feel that sometimes it is too much. When my sandwich came it was pretty big. The crispy fries were actually fresh not like everywhere else. The sandwich was pretty bugs my husband enjoyed his frita and I enjoyed my sandwich. The location is not the nicest but this is the kind of place you go to get a frita.

Yelp
Love it, filling and pretty quick food. They have a special where if you order 10 Fritas (Cuban hamburgers) you get 1 free. Bought for lunch and it took care of the whole family. It has onions and the small julienne fries, which you can remove and the staff has asked me both times if I want to remove. It is a small space so there is not a lot of seating. I order mine after work and pick up from the window. It is a busy shopping center at times and is next to the Bird bowl bowling.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming to this place over 25+ years- from what it used to be to what it is- ugh I can assure you the Frita meat blend that makes it a Frita is no longer what it used to be. I found myself chewing and chewing at a rubbery texture - wonder what's in it now. Ck bill- there is a credit card amount and a cash amount. Careful

Yelp
This is a tradition cuban Frita! What a grate place I have been eating Frita's when I first arrived from Sandiego back in 1996. The same grate taste nothing has changed. Service is grate the ladies great you thr second you walk in. They take care of you all the way until you are done eating. We were amazed at how much Fritas were made in the 30 min we sat and ate. I counted over 27 and 2 stake sandwiches. Ambiance is normal not bad just pleasant. I love that they don't play loude music. Definitely we will be back soon all the way from Sarasota FL.

Yelp
Being a lifelong Miami resident, I have heard many things about " El Rey De Las Fritas". Las Fritas are the Cuban version of a hamburger, and it is considered one of Miami's iconic foods. Since we are blessed ( also cursed) to live near a location we decided to go try it. The interior gives a old fashion diner feel, so we ordered the BLT Frita and my wife ordered the frita with a sunny side egg on top. What really makes the frita different from a regular burger is that the patty consist of beef and pork which marginated in a tomato based seasoning. Than it's grilled and flatten and serviced Cuban bread bun topped with fries chips. The combination of the juicy meat patty and the crisp bun was very tasty. We also ordered French fries which really went well with the fritas. Like I mentioned before this location will most likely see me as a frequent visitor when I get my frita cravings.

Yelp
I'll be there tomorrow!!! The best Frita in town. The service and the atmosphere is just right!! Doesn't get any better!

Yelp
I needed a good breakfast before my drive towards Tampa. What, what is that? A Cuban burger? Sure, sounds delicious! I took a seat at the counter and proceeded to order a Frita Original and a Mamey? juice. The juice was something to see. They have a juicer and throw in a bunch of orange/green fruits (looked like tangerines/oranges), they squeeze all the juice out into a cup. Next, they take a stick of sugarcane, and they have a specially designed juicer for that. They mix everything up and pour it over ice, and you have your drink. Wasn't my absolute favorite, not sweet enough for my liking, but it was definitely unique and I'm glad I ordered one. Now on to the Burger................. Frita Original- So they get a patty of beef/chorizo blend and throw it on the grill. They add onions and some special sauce to it. They cook it up, and then put it on top of an amazing toasted Cuban bun/roll and then top it with the potato straws. This thing was BOMB! The flavors of the burger were out of this world. Great texture with the potato sticks and the bun was out of this world. I really enjoyed this burger and probably should have ordered 2. I would definitely be back if I lived close. Big fan of the Frita!

Yelp
Very solid restaurant well priced well portioned and friend staff along with quick serving time 100% would recommend.

Yelp
Stopped in for a large cafe con leche and empanadas and I was delightfully impressed. The staff is so welcoming and friendly, felt like I was walking into my Tia's house! That large cafe con leche was everything and something like $3 (go kick rocks Starbucks!) The empanadas are perfect pastry-like, not greasy and a perfect teaser while you wait for your food. They are huge!! And crunch and tasty. I spent about $11 on a large coffee and 4 huge empanadas. Unfortunately I was in the area only for a short event but so happy to have stumbled upon this little gem.

Yelp

Yelp
Food great the best fritas in town every time I go to Miami we stop by , best shakes n flan sure will come back

Reginald A.

Yelp
Authentic. Not overwhelming ambiance but hits the spot. The sweet Frita with plantains are excellent. Best to eat there. The burger travels OK but losses something when not consumed on the spot

John S.

Yelp
To go Fritas and classic Cuban steak sandwiches, just awesome. Everyone was delicious all your guests were impressed.
google avatar

Yelp
Best fritas in Miami The shakes are good also Many tropical fruit flavors If you order french fries on the side, you will get the regular large size fries not the little ones
google avatar

Anneris R.

Yelp
Great fritas and service!!! Every single one of my visits here have been awesome! The original frita is perfection! Soooo good! The pan con bistec (Cuban steak sandwich) is also very good. Steak is fried with same Sauce as fritas and with same string fries. They are light and crispy. French fries order is plentiful and fries are crispy. The batido de trigo (wheat shake) is made exactly as I tell them. The ladies are very nice and attentive. This is a tiny hole in the wall for Cuban style sausage burger and a couple other typical Cuban sandwiches, shakes, and Sugar cane juice.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming to this spot since I was a little boy, and let me tell you, this place screams DELICIOUSNESS! The fritas here are, hands down, the best in town. They are made right in front of you, so you know they will always be hot and fresh. They also make the most amazing milk shakes, everything from chocolate, to mango, to their famous Mamay shakes! I have recommended this spot to all my friends, and none of them have been disappointed. I make it a point to even bring friends and family that are not from Miami so they can get a taste of what real Cuban cuisine is like. Without hesitation, I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to taste what a real delicious Cuban burger is like, and surround yourself with a Cuban atmosphere. Can't wait to have my next frita with my Materva!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is 10/10 WOULD recommend! Fritas are fire, we always leave here satisfied. If you're from out of town and staying in westchester for whatever reason (lol) then come check out El Rey De Las Fritas! We get fritas al caballo con queso and natural juices or jupiña! Can't go wrong with that order. If you gave this place a bad review, you're just a hater smh!
google avatar

Eddy M.

Yelp
Boom Bam Bizzle...I iZ back - ish... Like dont expect me to start whipping these out on any regularity & thats what makes these so special...On that HIGH note, we delve into Mr.Cuban's Top Tres..:: * You dont call yourself 'El Rey' without knowing that your Fritas are THEE best - ANYWHERE!!! & no doubt the Title is fitting. * Thee Original or EL Original.... what a treat!!! I mean, lets start from the top -- the bread - heavenly; Chopped onions, potato sticks, ketchup on top of mighty ground beef & chorizo patty. OMG.... mega fucking munchies I am getting right now. * Mad props to the staff & cooks -- serving up a Miami fav in an efficient manner during these crazy times requires recognition. Keep up the great work! Mr.Cuban #orlandostate

Yelp
Love the the original frita and their shakes are yummy too! Our go to for Cuban burgers.
google avatar

JoCat R.

Yelp
Where cravings are always satisfied!!! These fritas are the best I've ever had. We always get the Frita BLT with a batido de Maméy. I'm pretty sure it's like 1,000 calories but it's sure worth it. The patty is just perfect and the combination of the sweet from the batido just puts it over the edge. Love this location!! Always delish.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
Small restaurant but this place is a must whenever we visit Miami. They have the best Cuban frita and mamey shake in my opinion. Definitely recommend them
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Went here recently for lunch with friends. It's not ideally a place for gathering. However, they do have seats with counters, so you can sit next to your guest but not across. The service was a pretty face. I ordered two pan de bistec with a side of fries and pineapple juice. I would recommend coming again and taking my lunch to go due to the sitting with friends.
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Miami's deliciously innovative forms of preparing a delectable Frita. However, sticking to the basics has rarely steered me in the wrong direction so I knew stopping here for a true Miami meal was surely going to ring me a good and savory time. All the magic is in the patty. Using a mixed ratio of both ground chorizo and ground beef, the perfectly salty yet juicy patty is created. It's origins are found in the recipe for what originated in Cuba as the standard for hamburgers which emigrated to Miami during the 1960's. Before anyone altered this classic rendition of a Cuban burger in Miami, this establishment was the pinnacle of the proper place to implement this classic recipe into what now is Miami's official burger. The crunchiness of those shoestring potatoes in this classic and traditional diner show how the real Miami food culture never goes out of style. Do not forget to add cheese though. Es muy importante!
google avatar

Misael D.

Yelp
Hits the spot every time! This may not be considered fine dining, but i would pay way more for these fritas ! Delicious ! Very homie spot. The service is laid back, very cuban! Lol. Love coming here. If you've never tried it. I recommend it.
google avatar

Armando A.

Yelp
5/28/2022 Lunch with wife. The five star rating is for the food not the restaurant. It's a small, diner- type place with counter seats and seats against the window. No waitress service. There are several locations around Miami proper. This is the one on Bird Road, which we've visited many times. A Frita is a Cuban version of a hamburger. It's made with ground beef, pork and some add chorizo. They're griddled, some add cheese and or onions, a secrete BBQ sauce and served on a slider-size crusty Cuban bread bun and topped with freshly fried potato sticks. They're terrific. They serve or Cuban varieties of sandwiches and tropical fruit milk shakes and juices. The prices are a steal...don't know how they make any money. We wish there was a El Rey near where we live in the Tampa-St. Pete's area where we live.
google avatar

Dominique S.

Yelp
Fritas and shakes all day long. So yummy!!! Call ahead to place an order and pick up because the service can be a little slow.

Hope P.

Yelp
We took our friends here for breakfast because it doesn't get better than this! The Cuban frita with cheese was impeccable... and not to mention the delish Cafe con leche !! Don't it's out on this food, fun atmosphere and affordable prices!
google avatar

Adianez F.

Yelp
It's called the king for a reason people. Best Fritas in Miami are right here ! I never realized how privileged we are to have such a beautiful contraption. Leaving Miami and coming back makes me so excited that I get to eat a frita again ! Cheat day? Eat a frita and you'll be happy you did! Also their batidos are fire so highly recommend them too. My favorite is the original frita with cheese and onions
google avatar

Natasha M.

Yelp
Today was the second time me and the fam went to eat here for their pan con bistec. The place is bar style with our favorite seats in front of the chef watching our deliciousness be made Ordered with everything (onions, tomatoes, lettuce and papitas) its put together amazingly with your own hand of salt and pepper at your seat. Had the jugo de piña to drink and it was to die for. I know we'll be frequent visitors Tried the flan. A little to sweet and dense for our liking but appreciated the dessert option
google avatar

Morgan C.

Yelp
Went very packed food took a while fritas were good w cheese and good prices . Good packaging on a very messy in a good way but delicious fritas . One pointer add ketchup they would have been better?!! Good prices and a vast menu ! Love the smell! Gonna try other items on menu too.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
Stopped by this place after a class at around 9 pm because my go-to Frita place closes at 8. I ordered a papaya shake and a Frita with American cheese. The papaya shake was good but I prefer my shakes to be a little thicker. The Frita was okay but I prefer to taste more chorizo in the party. To me, it tasted just like any beef patty with seasoning and cheese. All in all it was just okay... Not sure I'd come back to this place.
google avatar

Jorge R.

Yelp
If you like your frita super well done or super well cooked this is the place to eat a frita. Don't expect a good frita flavor unless you put ketchup. Like I say the frita is super DRY.
google avatar

Jordan N.

Yelp
Great Cuban fritas (aka Cuban hamburgers)! This place translates to "King of Cuban Hamburgers" or maybe the Cuban Burger King. I cannot really explain it much, but if you ever had Cuban fast food, you know that many times any fast food sandwiches, hot dogs or burgers comes stuffed with small thin crispy shoestring fries you sometimes see bottled in grocery stores. Well here, those small thin crispy shoestring fries are HOMEMADE and that is what makes this place so unique and special. The flavor really comes out alongside with the specially seasoned ground beef. And the prices in this Cuban joint that consists of only barstools and counters? Much less than 3 bucks for that tasty burger (I believe it was $2.25 to $2.50 each)! You might as well order two if you'll like, and with cheese if you'll like although it has plenty of flavor without the cheese! There's also hot dogs, cuban sandwiches, tropical batidos (shakes), and desserts but I would come here often solely for their fritas! This is a Miami-only chain (3 other locations that I know of) that is great to try out for a bit of Miami Cuban sabor.
google avatar

Sarah V.

Yelp
This place is very small and all bar stool sitting. When you walk in you mostly see elderly Latino men, whom I imagine are Cubans. It is clear that this place is a touch if nostalgia for Cubans and a little taste of home. With that said, I feel no nostalgia from this place and I didn't grow up on it. So I was not a fan. I had the Frito original and it was horrible. It is some kind of ground meat patty that is very thin. It has onions and thinly sliced potatoes crunchies. I had no idea what the patty was exactly and the flavor was not good. I'm glad I had the opportunity to try something that is so Miami and be invited down memory lane. But I won't be having it again.
google avatar

Ana Cristina P.

Yelp
I'm going to be the odd man out here. This place is obviously very popular, judging from the reviews as well as the crowd that was there when I visited. It was my first time here, but I won't be going back. Sure, the little tiny potatoes on top of the frita were delicious, but the meat tasted like it had been sitting out forever (which it kinda was, I waited for a long time for my frita and the meat was just off to the corner, sitting in a pile of old grease with its other meat patty friends). 2 stars because the pan con tortilla was delicious. But if you're known for fritas, and the frita isn't your strong suit, then meh.
google avatar

Amarilys V.

Yelp
This is my mom's favorite spot to eat so we come often, I try to treat her with it. Unfortunately the service is awful. I ordered 3 original fritas, I was asked if I wanted American or Swiss cheese. I asked for Swiss and I specifically asked for very cooked onions on all 3 and an iron beer. I was the first in line of 4 people who ordered food after me and a gentleman while I was waiting went inside. Everyone received their food including the gentleman inside but me. When I finally got my food it's all wrong, raw onions and American cheese. Plus I had paid before hand to ensure it would be a quick turnaround for the lady. Each time I come I have to wait over 30 min to get my food to go.
google avatar

Veronica J.

Yelp
I love fritas and I was really looking forward to having one. I ordered a frita a caballo which is a frita topped with a fried egg. It was piled high with crispy shoestring potatoes. I took that long awaited bite and it fell so short of my expectations. Wow. I did not even know what I was eating. It was salty and tasted nothing like the frita I know and love. The bunuelos were good. Nice and warm and they syrup was not too sweet.
google avatar

Katie F.

Yelp
My best friend loves fritas and finally convinced me to meet her at her favorite place which is El Rey's. I was surprised I had never been before considering that it's right next to Bird Bowl. My boyfriend and I ended up ordering a variety of fritas in which we all shared. We tried the Frita Original, the Frita Queso Suizo (swiss frita), the Frita BLT, the Frita Dulce (sweet plantain frita), and the Frita a Caballo (fried egg frita). Each was delicious and their base recipe for their recipes is truly savory! I will say that my favorites were the original and the dulce as just having the best toppings to pair with a frita! El Rey De Las Fritas will always be my go to for fritas. IG: KFitzEats

Yelp
I just started coming here about a year ago and I got addicted! These are the best fritas in Miami! They prepare your order right in front of you and you can customize how you want your meal. This place definitely gets packed so you might have to take your order to go. The staff doesn't speak English so get prepared to use your Spanglish they require id with all card payments even debit so please remember to bring it along! The service isn't great that's the only reason I didn't give it five stars there is a lot of side conversations that don't have to do with work so that's kinda a bummer but if you can get past that you'll find this place worth it.
google avatar

Henry M.

Yelp
The food here is cooked to order. The fritas a very good. The mamey batido remind me of my childhood drink them. The best in Miami. The guava and cream cheese empanadas are something you need to try. It is the first place I go to when I am in town.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Stop number 5 on the "Best Frita in Miami" search Not bad, slightly better than El Mago's Frita but still a distant second to Morro Castle The bread was to tough but the potato crisp, onions and the patty itself were really good Even long time fans of El Rey have seen the Frita truth that is Morro So far the ratings go like this Morro Castle El Rey El Mago El Palacio if anyone has a contender that you would like me to check out, tell me

Yelp
My review for El Rey de las Fritas was long over due. They deserved it way sooner. By now I'm the duke ha. I have tried their fritas, several types, and now their breakfast. I loved it. It was exactly what I needed and how I needed it. I was so not enjoying my almost hour plus traffic comute and thought, let me treat myself to a "sude everything aside" and enjoy life a little bit. Everything else can wait just a little. I got a yummy breakfast, quiet and loved their services. Heere is how: they continue to ask question after questions like would you like your milk dark or light, would you like you eggs hard or soft. I felt that I had a warm service. Maybe it was that there were not pressured by a long line, maybe it was my day. I was going back to regular schedule after my dad was sent home and I happened to enjoy my dad more than others. But even the background music of Laura Pausini made the whole thing very nice. I will continue to comeback for more items and service. Now I can go to work lol. Pictures to follow. Leave a nice tip and continue to say pleases anf thank yous. We seem to miss those nowadays.
