Cheko El Rey Del Sarandeado Review - Long Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you’re looking for seafood in Long Beach, your first, second, and 100th stop should be Cheko El Rey, a small Mexican restaurant on Market St. It’s run by a former Coni’Seafood cook, and you can tell—the food is innovative, spicy, and fantastic. The first dish to hit our table is always the Tostaditas Locas, corn chips topped with marlin pate, shrimp ceviche, and a slice of octopus. The three types of seafood balance each other out perfectly, and the spicy chile de arbol sauce makes the whole dish. Next, get the langostinos, doused in a creamy, super-strong chili sauce. And don’t leave without getting the snook, which is flayed open and slow-grilled until it’s crispy on the outside, and juicy and delicious on the inside. Come with a group, because the portions are huge, and you’ll want to order a lot." - Brett Keating

This place is good to start i love the chips and the green hot sauce. the shrimp Cucarachas is a great small appetizer & the mojarra was amazing good size fried fish. Many different things to choose from here. Differently coming back the service was ok. The parking was kind of tight tho.🦐🐟🦀🦞

Small place but we got in before the lunch crowd showed. Just one server was not enough but she did her best. Food was really good. I had the Chef's Special (shrimp with bacon, mushrooms and garlic). It was flavored with something I couldn't quite pinpoint, maybe tamarind. Very good. My friend had fish tacos with mango. Parking was no problem (lot across street). A/C was turned on full blast so watch where you sit in the room, best on the kitchen side.

Not sure why this spot has so many reviews and a high rating. Maybe we're just unlucky. The girl helping us was pretty indifferent. They don't take card, only zelle or cash even though they have a card terminal. Worst of it is we got two shrimp ceviches with whole raw shrimps so can't even eat it right away.

The food was really good! I filled up on shrimp and had a pretty good michelada. I'd definitely come here again.

Don’t come here very often but boy am I glad when I do! Still the best ceviche I’ve ever had!!! Their ceviche costero is my favorite and it’s easy to see why!! So many flavors going on and so fresh!!! The salsa and chips they serve with it are perfect. The chips are nice and crispy. The salsa has the perfect spice.

The food here is super delicious, especially the device, I had never had mangoes in my device and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The only issue I had here was there seemed to be a slight neglect when it came to the service. Our table was rarely visited, we ordered guacamole that never came to the table, and our payment was never picked up so we had to get up and go to the counter, where we were ignored for at least 3 minutes, just to pay for our food

The best pescado sarandeado ever!!! The langostinos and the sauce they come in are crack. Add that sauce to your sarandeado and you will be in heaven. If you love seafood you must try this place.

I was craving mariscos and found this place close to work stopped in after work only to be greeted by 2 rather unfriendly women. The prices seemed a little steep ($15 per order of ceviche) but when I asked about portion sizes they showed me a decent sized container so I figured I'd roll the dice. After maybe about 15 minutes they brought my order out and to my disappointment the container was only half way filled. To top it off the shrimp that was put in my ceviche was not at all cooked. Almost 100% raw, there's only little bits that have been cooked and you can see they weren't even deveined. Now I'm sitting here STILL hungry and having to figure out food because if I eat this I will get food poisoning. I do not recommend this place, take the extra drive and find a better spot where you'll get your monies worth.
