El Rinconcito

We found this place close to our hotel while traveling to OKC. We selected three different menu items so all of us could try each other's food. One was a Carne asada plate, one pechuga de Pollo a la Carrillo and the other was another beef item. The food was the BEST. Reasonable prices and great service.

Good food, if you get it hot. Ordered tamales...the chicken inside was ice cold. Asked if it can heated up, it appeared to bother the ladies working in the kitchen. Otherwise everything was ok. It is inside a store that sells typical little market items as well as ethnic Guatemala knick knacks. Alot of people ordering so patience is a must.

Stopped in after looking at Google for a Restaurant in the Area. They popped up. Had a high rating. Do we stopped in. Old fashioned store and Restaurant. We had the Papusas. Very nice. They hit the spot. Will recommend if you ever are near.

Came here the other day for the first time. I just mapped a Latin cuisine restaurant near me and it popped up. I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing this place is and sad I hadn’t heard of it earlier. I got the carne asada plate and potato tamales. They both tasted amazing. The service was great and helpful too because they could tell it was my first time in. Lots of families and inviting atmosphere overall. Definitely will be back!

Same and hubby randomly tried this on a Sunday.. SOOOO GOOD! We got the pepian de pollo with corn tamales. DELICIOUS. And the customer service was great

Ten cuidado or you will not even notice this place exists! Tucked inside a small convenience store, the place isn't much to look at, but DANG this food is delicious. There are several good Guatemalan restaurants in town, but this place is much more authentic than the popular ones. I have tried almost all of the menu and have never been disappointed. Must try: -Lengua in tomato sauce. Amazing with their homemade tortillas. (The tortillas are so thick and fluffy!!) The soups are amazing on a chilly day, the pepian makes what seems like plain ole chicken into a flavorful party in la boca. There are a few tables to sit and watch the little Guatemalan ladies cook it up! Don't forget to go grab a Mexican Coke out of the cooler in the convenience store!

This little hole in the wall serves delicious, authentic Guatemalan food, something I have been looking for when I visit OKC since there's nothing of the sort in Tulsa. It isn't a fancy restaurant by any means, but it was packed when I got there, which is an indication that the food is both fresh and tasty! I got there around 2:30pm, which meant that some of the food and fresh-made drinks were already gone but there was still plenty of yummy dishes left and the ladies in the back were still preparing more food and hand-making corn tortillas (the best if you have only tried the store-bought ones)! They had a variety of dishes: Pepian de Pollo (a contender for Guatemala's national dish, Carne en Estofado (not your typical American meat stew, mind you), Pollo Guisado, and Lengua de Res. These dishes were served with Guatemalan-style rice, black beans, elbow pasta salad and homemade corn tortillas. I tried both the carne en estofado and the lengua and they were soooo good and saucy! Guatemalan dishes aren't spicy hot for the most part, so if you like your food spicy, simply ask for their chile or salsa picante. Besides the dishes mentioned above, they also serve Caldo de Res (also called Cocido), which is a deliciously light beef broth with chunks of tender meat and vegetables served with rice, avocado, and lime. Pescado Frito (fried fish, and not the battered kind) is also offered and it reminds me of days spent at the beach with my family and having pescado frito for lunch at one of the many shoreline restaurants in Champerico, Retalhuleu. :) Other items on the menu include Carne Asada, Fried Chicken, and Guatemalan Tamales. I took a few rice and potato tamales home and they're pretty tasty, though not as tasty as the ones I've had at Feria Latina Supermarket. The small store next door also offers Guatemalan sweet bread (a total treat when fresh!) and I found all kinds of soda pop brands, including the ones I grew up drinking when I was younger. However, my favorite are the canned fruit juices from Del Frutal brand. They remind me of the fresh fruit drinks you accompany lunch with back home. The service was great, the prices were great, and the food was great! Can't ask for anything more and I can't wait to come back soon!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place. Everything from the homemade, thick tortillas, to the pepian de pollo, the carne asada, and the tamales is out of this world. The caldo de res is absolutely lovely. The meat is really tinder, and the veggies are plentiful. When I order it to go, I can easily make 2-3 meals from it. There is a very small Guatemalan shop attached, sometimes with pretty neat wares. It's best if your party is four or less, particularly at peak lunch and dinner times, as it's pretty cozy.

Don't expect anything fancy here -- nope. This is a small "Mom & Pop" store with a basic kitchen on its side, and the home-cooked Guatemalan dishes served up here are hearty, basic, and modestly priced. (In other words, this isn't the kind of place you'd want to bring a large crowd of friends to. It is, instead, the kind of place you might want to eat at when your group is small, cozy, and in the mood for a great meal without all the bells and whistles.) The pepián here is the best I've had in all of the Oklahoma City metro area EVER. (Now remember, Guatemalan dishes aren't quite so piquant as most Mexican dishes, so the pepián you'll get here is well spiced but not "hot.") You may want to brush up on your Spanish if you venture in here, as one or two of the staff here are fluent in English. Friendly, helpful service. Good, solid food. Reasonable prices. Oh, yeah. Now I'm craving pepián from El Rinconcito . . . again.

An Authentic food delight! 4.5 star I was a little confused and intimidated at first entering the store, (my Spanish is rusty). The owner Andy directed me to where I place my order (Wish I would've researched the menu before arriving). I think the women taking my order felt my anxiety; however, she was patient, understanding. I ordered the Caldo de res and the tamales de masa y pollo. Caldo de res: Best I've had in OKC. The Caldo had tons of flavor. To top it off they gave me a huge Styrofoam bowl full of stew. Tamales de Masa y Pollo: You can taste the heritage. The banana leaf gave the tamales different layers of flavor. Every layer was delicious. It was my first time trying Guatemalan tamales The tamales were huge! I plan on researching the menu and returning with an empty stomach...I'll need to be rolled out of El Rincon, I'm coming for the rice and potato tamales.

How did I find this hidden gem? Well I have to credit Gary for this. Back in the day... before the Plaza District was the hustle and bustle that it is today, there used to be a Guatemalan grocery store with a tiny restaurant inside. I was under the impression that Chiltepes was now the restaurant part... and the grocery part was across the street. Turns out I was wrong... yes ladies... I do admit I am wrong (on that note...dating applications welcome). But I digress. .. the restaurant is now El Riconcito on NW 13th and May. Did I say restaurant ?.. I meant the whole concoction... grocery store and restaurant. There are a few items on the menu on the board from fried chicken to beef tongue in tomato sauce to beef stew to Carne Asada to chicken/beef in mole sauce. They had 3 types of tamales; corn, rice and potato? The drinks were Horchata and Naranja .. whatever that is. I first chose the Lengue con salsa (beef tongue in tomato sauce) ... The English speaking guy asked if I would like a sample... because he didn't want me to get something I didn't care for. It was pretty good, but didn't seem filling enough. In retrospect I should have gotten that. I ordered the Carne Asada... thanks to the Taco Bell commercials. It came with a 1/4 of an Avocado, salad, black beans, pasta salad and tortillas. All this for under $10? The Carne Asada itself was a little tough/ fatty... but there was enough to fill you up. I am sure it is hard to get really good cuts of meat for that purpose. I tried the fried chicken, which was pretty good and a little of the potato tamales. It was a different flavor from the regular Mexican tamales. It is Guatemalan and it was potatoes with jalapeños and chicken in a giant banana leaf for $2.50. I am definitely ordering a tamale from here in the future. The drink selection is what was listed above or the Mexican drinks in cans or bottles. I got a coconut drink for $2. Walking through the grocery store enticed me to get a chocolate berry ice cream for $1.25. A lady was actually dipping bananas in chocolate and adding them to the freezer for $1.25. I was truly impressed with the service and attention they showed their customers. I forsee a future meetup here. This place is a solid 4.5 in my opinion

This is not a full restaurant, it's a small store with a kitchen to the side but don't be discouraged the food is amazing. The tortillas are hand made and the plates are served generously. On a cold day like today a caldo Is perfect. They serve authentic style Guatemalen food the type my mom would cook, everytime I come here I can't help but to smile and message my mom. You can order Togo as well.

Not impressed. A little hole on the wall... and bad service. Ordered the carne asada plate and the beans and rice were cold... my husband ordered a pepian, and honestly he can make it wayyyyyy better at home. First and last time I come.

Big portion of food I order chicken fried was big even I have left over for dinner my boyfriend got a chicken soup also a big portion really good flavor I would go there again while my visit here and Guatemalan drinks

The best Guatemalan food in the city. It is hard to go wrong with the pepian de pollo (chicken) or carne asada. A mom and pop place just like their family members who own Tienda Guatemala. Cafe Kacao has the reputation but when you come in here for lunch the majority of customers are Guatemalan and that speaks volumes. One of the owners tells me they have Guatemalans that come from Tulsa for the food.

This hidden gem was found by looking for caldo de Res, my favorite for the wintertime. Being the coldest day in October on record I immediately started my search. As I was looking through dozens of low rated restaurants I found this place with not 6 ratings all highly rated and pictures of what looked like glorious caldo. I called and put an order for that and red salsa chicken in for pick up. He said I was lucky for they are usually sold out by 3pm. I didn't recognize the place as I walked in because it was a storefront. But to the left side is the restaurant that I picked my order up at. The first thing I noticed is the smell when I walked in. It was like stepping into a fresh garden with hints of bbq almost. My mouth watered on the quick drive back home. As soon as I had the first bite I knew I found a special place. It was the best caldo, if not the best soup I've ever had! And that's not to say the chicken wasn't amazing, because it was, it melted away in your mouth. But the caldo was the real winner here, better than at home!
