Yelp
Had a weird day at work and decided to find a new Mexican restaurant to try out. While driving, I decided to go onto Yelp to find a spot. Yes, I am a badass for texting and driving during rush hour traffic just to get Mexican food. That is some dedication. Anyway, I was reading several reviews and wanted to see how people perceived the food and service here. I'll tell you guys right now that I did not agree with the very few Negative Nancys that posted their thoughts. I tried this spot out and I know well now that when people post crap, it usually is just crap. I respect most opinions but I don't respect absolute spewed bullshit with no constructive substance. To the honest review now...
Atmosphere: Outside is much smaller. Very easy to miss the spot. Next to a gas station and across from another gas station. Small parking lot in the front but there is parking in the back. Inside is surprising roomier than I would've thought. When you walk in, there is a little ordering window to the left of the door and then tables with chairs to the right; several booths. It is definitely the feel of a traditional mom and pop shop. Tip: The bathroom light is outside of the bathroom.
Menu: Very big selection of foods from caldos to almuerzo, to sides and desserts. There are a lot of things to choose from and I do like the variety. Personally, I like a simplified menu of select dishes but these guys do well with the consistent flavors and dishes they put out so it works for them to have a big menu. If you have a fix for menudo or pozole, they have it. If you need to have a taco, well they have that too plus the variety of meats to choose from. Big selection so go all out.
Food: We were served with some warm tortilla chips and a steaming red tomato salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed the salsa. I then ordered mini taquitos with beef fajitas, several breakfast tacos, several al la carte tacos (all on corn instead of flour), limonada, flan and churros. The meats I chose for the tacos were: tripas (soft and crispy variants, al pastor, and barbacoa. For the breakfast tacos, I had migas, bacon and egg, and papas con chorizo. It is usually very easy to find my personal favorite out of the variety but I had a tough time picking one out from here because everything was so good. Taco to taco, it was flavor from the meats melding inside my mouth (that's what she said). The limonada was quite amazing too. Great food.
Customer Service: David was our waiter and he was a very cool guy. He was upfront about the selections that he recommended and even was personable. I have a lot of respect for folks who not only take care of the patrons
that they serve but also the honesty of what he enjoyed personally. I trust reviews based on a wide consensus but if someone tells you something is highly recommended, that is more than enough for me to believe that the dish will be great.
Overall Value: It really depends on what you get but I would have to say that this place does provide the bang for your buck. You sometimes even get more than you paid for. Food pricing was on the cheaper end so it was easy to get filled up. The flavors were amazing. Different variety and great service.
All in all, this is a place I recommend for lunch and a small get-together with friends and family. The tacos are solid. I love the limonada at this joint. I would highly recommend this place and I will be stopping in a whole lot more.
5/5 stars.
