El Rio Restaurant

My family considers themselves connoisseurs of Mexican restaurants. Born and bred Americans, we roam from restaraunt to restaurant, considering "Tex-Mex" our weird caucasian tradition. So from our warped perspective of what "good mexican food" looks like, we really know what Tex-Mex looks like at it's best. This place throws our standards up in the air, and shows that authentic Mexican flavors can stand up to the false expectations set by "Tex-Mex" as a concept. Do yourself one favor while you are in Como. Eat here. Get yourself a tall margarita (excellently mixed), and relax.

In the local area visiting family and was taken here for dinner. Being from Chicago, I was skeptical about this place being authentic, as Chicago has incredible Mexican restaurants. First off the ambiance is great. The interior decoration and lighting worked very well and had a San Antonio vibe about it. The service was great. We were seated quickly and the wait staff was friendly and professional. I can't lie. I have had better Mexican food, but I wasn't disappointed in my meal. I had pretty nice portions and every one enjoyed what they ordered. I'd recommend the place to any looking for a good Mexican meal.

Great laid back dining experience! Authentic Food served piping hot! Awesome Service! We have dined several times with our Toddler Grands and they make a mess, but they are helpful and understanding!!(Of course I tip Extra for their messiness) I will be visiting regularly when I am in town!

Best Mexican restaurant in 50 miles! Don't listen to all the negative reviews on here it's 5 stars! My family lives locally near here and we love it! They go all out for Christmas and especially valentines! The staff is very endearing and sweet. Show kindness and you will get kindness in return. Kindness begets kindness

The food is always delicious, the staff are hard working, nice & prompt, the food comes out quick & the margaritas are great! I like the arracherra (steak, shredded chicken, bell pepper & a cheese enchilada) & wife likes the tamaulipas (chicken & mushrooms), but any dish you get will be worth the money.

Food here is great and the service is top notch.

Lucky for us the steakhouse next door stopped serving. We went down the street to El Rio and were so happy we did. We lived almost 2 years in Mexico and it felt like home to us! Fantastic food, clean, amazing service. Other restaurants in the area could take lessons from these kind owners. We can’t wait to return!

We've never been disappointed in the staff, service, food taste and quality, and the ambiance. The Town of Como and the restaurant are nicely decorated for Christmas. Drop by and experience it for yourself. PS. I have no personal relationship with the restaurant other than being an appreciative customer.

I live in Como and eat here every week. Celia and Poncho do an amazing job with consistent great food every time. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who loves great quality Mexican food. This restaurant is extremely clean and well kept. My favorite meal is their carnitas dinner. I also challenge anyone to find a better flan dessert than the one Poncho makes fresh every day here. I'm a very satisfied customer for 12 years.

We love the family atmosphere and hospitality. Their tacos and guacamole Mexicano are our got tos.

This restaurant is the most amazing Mexican restaurant. It's in the most quaint town of Como, MS but when you go inside you are transported to another country. The service is amazing and food is exceptional! Definitely put this on your list!

The BEST Mexican food ever! Service was amazing as well. Definitely a place to visit if in the area. We drove 30 mins from home to eat here and we won't hesitate to do it again!

I called about 20 minutes before we arrived to give warning that a group of 17 was coming. They were set up for us and gave great service. I would give 5 stars but the white queso was too thin. It was almost as runny as milk. But it did taste good. All of the food was tasty and prices were very reasonable. It was a quick stop from I-55 and there was adequate parking for our tour bus.

I've traveled all over the country eating mexican food & this is still my favorite restaurant. Best queso. Friendliest service. Clean. Great tasting food. Haven't had a bad thing yet since it opened.

We enjoy eating here. Atmosphere is awesome!!! The food is solid Mexican and exactly what you would expect. We stuck with steak tacos, burritos and fajitas.

Great food great service. Folks are friendly and y'all can request your food cooked the way you want. It's awesome we eat there atleast once a month never disappointed.

We stop in here sometimes after Como Steakhouse for desert. The staff is always very friendly and they make a good sopapillia as well as fried ice cream. Margaritas are good also.

Very good! Very Authentic and prompt friendly service. Highly recommend the homemade verde salsa with chips to and the fiesta quesadilla for starters followed by the cazuelon dinner. Great combination of spices with rich roasted vegetables on top of succulent ribeye slices and chicken.

I will never go back. I ordered drinks for my daughter and I. The waitress bought out the lime margerita I ordered. I didn't complain but it tasted like mint listerine was in it. We waited about 15mins and was trying to get her attention to ask where was my daughter's pina colado? She just looked blank no explanation. I ordered the Carne Fajitas my daughter was asking her a question about there tacos. The waitress walked away so my daughter didn't place an order. When she bought my food out the bag was tied and knotted. I didn't try to open it to check my order but I asked her twice was everything in it emphasising the sour cream not expecting they would leave off the soft tortillas. The waitress expressed everything was in the bag and named it off. When I got home 25 miles away, there was no soft shell tortillas in the bag. I called back when they opened the next morning and explained the sevice I had received. This lady of whom I was talking to that said she was the manager, I believe she was one in the same the waitress we had the night before. She only offered if I drove all the way back down there she would charge me $1 for soft tortillas. She pretended not to comprehend why I was calling and laughing at me. I am no joke! On the menu the fajitas are listed as Carne. I know this is Spanish for meat. The meat they served was sub standard. It looked like scrap meat dark worms. They gave me alot of it and there prices are cheaper than I usually pay. But this meat doesn't look like the beef/steak I have only been served before. And the bowls they serve their salsa in hold about a tablespoon.

Excellent!!! Ate lunch here on Friday 3-20-15; and this was first time I had been there. The restaurant was clean and the service was great as well! They brought nachos and dip to our table right away. My friend and I ordered a pitcher of frozen margarita; so it was nachos and margaritas for our appetizer and I ordered one of the combos. Number 5 I think it was. Anyway it was a cheese quesadilla a tamale and rice and my friend had the Taco fajita shrimp salad ( big shrimp)...... OMG is all we kept saying! We were definitely impressed. EL RIO MEXICAN RESTAURANT in como, ms..... I will definitely be back!

Good Mexican food in a nice atmosphere, located in the charming little town of Como, which is easily accessible off of I-55. I've eaten here twice on the way back to Memphis from Ole Miss Football games and have enjoyed it both times. The interior has a Mediterranean look, which makes me wonder if the building has been an Italian restaurant in the past. The service is friendly even if a bit unfocused at times. The food is traditional Tex-Mex with large portions and good seasoning. I especially like the uniqueness of their chili rellenos, which are whole chilis - seeds included - which pack some heat.

The best Mexican restaurant from Memphis to Biloxi. Close to the interstate 55. Great friendly service from the staff and the food and margaritas are amazing.

We stopped in and had a late lunch. There aren't many places in town so we chose this one. The place was very clean, including the restrooms, and quite comfortable. The waitress was pleasant and friendly and stayed busy keeping up with the customer's requests. When the food arrived it was hot and very good. We had some sort of garlic shrimp dish as well as some of the more traditional Mexican fare. El Rio is worth the stop in if your crusing through and in the mood for mexican... We will definitely e back to El Rio, maybe even at a traditional meal time.

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that is looking for a wonderful meal. Whether celebrating a special event or just looking for a unique treat, El Rio is without question the place to go. The atmosphere is always celebratory and light. The staff is friendly and the service is stellar. They treat you like family. Oh and did I mention that the food is very delicious.
