The Best Restaurants in Hudson, New York | Eater NY

"Since opening last fall on Warren Street, El Sabor de Oaxaca has focused on Oaxacan specialties — birria stew made with goat meat, entomatadas, and tlayudas (large discs of masa blanketed in black beans, cheese, and meat); you order at the counter and can eat in a colorful dining room or in the courtyard, and a tlayuda to‑go even comes out in a pizza box." - Emma Orlow

El Sabor de Oaxaca is the tastiest lunch spot on Warren Street and it’s always empty which is a shame - friendly staff and a basic cute room with charming music- my Mexican shrimp in a creamy tomato sauce was divine

I almost forgot to write this review then I came across the photos in my camera roll, and it made me upset all over again. Firstly, the phone call was not smooth. Evidently they didn’t understand my question which was “does it come with pico de gallo“ to which I got a yes. Instead, I received an entire side of pico de gallo, which leaked all inside the takeout bag and was charged for. I ordered CARNE ASADA and paid $32 for a take out order. Secondly, The amount of rice I received was thievery. It was a portion fit for a toddler that just fully committed to solids. The steak itself, no sauce no onions just one piece of dried dead flesh. Needless to say, fool me twice, there won’t be a thrice.

Absolutely THE BEST most authentic, fresh Mexican food I have ever eaten. Honestly, I guess I had never eaten authentic Mexican food before this meal!! Two sweet ladies in the small open kitchen cooking the most delicious food I’ve ever eaten.

Google
This place is as authentic as it gets. I've eaten a number of times in Mexico, and this takes me back. Taste, texture and aroma are all on point. I even went out of my way on the way home during Thanksgiving to get another taste. Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our dinner here! We sat outside, which was great since they had umbrellas. Great guacamole, tacos and burritos. We enjoyed the spicy salsa and the birria tacos. The server was great, really friendly and really quick to serve us. Recommend if you are in the area!

Lovely casual spot. The food was hearty and flavorful, the portions were legit, and the colors were enchanting. The lady serving was a sweetie and welcoming. The outside seating was relaxing, under a large tree across from a view of a beautiful old church. Parking was on the street, but it was a weeknight so it was easy. Thanks for the dinner!

After visiting Olana State Historic Site a group of six went to El Sabor for a late lunch. It was our first time there. We looked it up on Google Maps but didn’t know anything else about it. It’s a very casual place. A bunch of tables for four people and a counter where you go to get takeout. We pulled a table away from the wall so all six would fit at the table. If there were more free tables we would have pulled two tables together to give us more room for everything we ordered. There was a regular menu and a menu for the specials. Both have lots of items on it. Three people ordered Enchiladas Oaxaca which were four fried tortillas filled with chicken and also came with a choice of a side of Steak or Pork. Our friends ordered Steak which was one large thinly cut piece of steak. It also came with rice and beans. My wife and I shared The veggie tacos and the red cecina which was marinated pork. Also ordered was a Burrito filled with rice beans and she chose chicken which came with two sauces. For the table we ordered the Huaraches with chorizo meal as an appetizer. Most enjoyed their meals. My wife and I loved our meal. It’s not tex-mex which some people expect when going to a Mexican restaurant. It’s traditional Oaxacan food. We debated if I should give it a 4 or 5 star and concluded it’s exactly what it says it is and the food was delicious but might not be to everyone's taste.

Google
Tried the guacamole for an appetizer and for entrees we got steak tostadas & fried quesadillas with chicken. We enjoyed everything and thought the guacamole and chips were really good! Our food came out pretty quickly and the portions were all a good size. Definitely would come back and try other things on the menu too!

Yelp
Beautiful outdoor patio space on a quaint idyllic street in Hudson NY. But unfortunately, the food did not live up the setting. Inside the torata cubana, a sandwich filled with bean paste, mayo, egg, ham, carnitas, steak, avocado, tomato, queso oaxaca, and lettuce -- the hodge podge of meat just became a hardened, chewy amalgam with limited identity or taste. You bite into the crisped bread exterior and your teeth struggle to bite and separate the meat inside. You're left gnawing and chewing. Struggling to separate the meat as the sandwich falls apart in your hands. A dry, chewy, sauceless meat on meat situation. The guacamole was a helpful addition to add to the sandwich to add some acidity, moisture, and brightness, but was relatively underseasoned to begin with, so the torta cubana was still left lacking.

Yelp
Service was great! But we overall thought the food was flat. I ordered the veggie quesadilla... the filling was bland and one dimensional. And the side of rice and beans didn't have depth of the flavor that I'm used to, and I didn't appreciate the frozen peas thrown into the beans. The portion was large though. The one saving grace was a lovely red smoky hot sauce that I poured on everything to make it ultimately taste only of that (aka good).

Yelp
We stumbled across this restaurant completely by accident when taking a walk in downtown Hudson. My wife had an order of veggie tacos - and said that they were the best veggie tacos she ever had. I ordered a chicken burrito. It was loaded with filling but I would rate it as good vs great. It was a bit on the bland side. The was only 1 waitress on duty and, although the restaurant was pretty busy, she was very pleasant and attentive. Service was prompt. We will definitely try this restaurant again but next time I would try another dish - hoping to match my wife's enthusiasm.

Yelp
Such great food!!!! You have to go here if you're in Hudson! This was my first time here and I am so excited for this to become a new go-to for me. We got the chorizo chimichanga and the steak nachos which came out to $40 with drinks which is an incredible deal for 2 for the amount of food that we had. It was perfect and we even had leftovers to bring home. All of the vegetables were so fresh. My favorite parts were the pickled jalapeños and carrots on top of the nachos and the green sauce. Everything was amazing. Service was good but you could tell it was short staffed. There was only one person serving and he was working so hard. He did great even with it being so busy! The ambiance is great. Fun music, you can see inside the kitchen, and the bar is so much fun to be seated at if you get the chance. 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
This simple restaurant offers some of the best Oaxacan food I've ever had. Authentic salsas, stretchy Oaxacan cheese, flavorful fresh salads and beans and rice, and giant portions. Everything is top notch, from the burritos and quesadillas to the Chile rellenos - top quality and generous garnishes. Bonus points for the shady outdoor patio.

Yelp
Love this place! Best Mexican food in Hudson!! Authentic and great service! The margaritas are my favorite!

Yelp
Excellent tamales, delicious tacos, and good atmosphere. The server was nice and very helpful, and the meal was awesome.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best Mexican food we've ever had. This is a no frills spot, on the small side indoors but they have some outdoor seating as well. Given how casual the vibe was, the service was the best we've had in Hudson. Our waitress was lovely, very attentive, and we felt very welcome in the restaurant. They had a small private party outside that took up all of the outdoor space however it didn't affect our service whatsoever. Everything was delicious and came out very fast. The tacos, enchiladas, flautas...so damn good and authentic. Hudson is a pretty affluent neighborhood and we've noticed the service at most restaurants can be bare minimum, but it was the opposite here. Many thanks to the staff for an awesome experience. I'm willing to come back up to Hudson just to eat here again!

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Placed an order online for delivery, cancelled 30 minutes after it was ordered with no communication. At this point the restaurant was already closed, there hours are not reflected correctly online. I only got this information after they finally picked up the phone after calling 5 times.

Yelp
I stopped by for lunch and ordered 2 tamales (Oaxaqueno & Pork Red Chile), my husband had the three meat Tlayuda. We were both highly impressed by the cleanliness of the restaurant; waitress is very attentive and food was freshly made & flavorful! I will definitely be returning to try the Enmoladas.

Yelp
The food was authentic, the service was so lovely and prompt, the atmosphere was bright and welcoming. We will be back--what a great spot!

Yelp
I have had 4 GREAT meals here. They have a nice atmosphere. Authentic Mexican food. They are not just tacos and fajitas. A nice area to dine outside and a small indoor dining area.

Yelp
Food was super fresh and tasty, those salsas incredible... great smoky flavors. Staff was young and pleasant. Popped in randomly with three for lunch on Saturday, and even though they were busy preparing a giant order still managed to look after us proficiently. The place wasn't much to look at but I'm sure they will change it up as they go along.

Yelp
Service was ok. And it may be my so-so review comes from being spoiled by super Tex-Mex and Cali-Mex. Whatever. $18 burritos: tiny, liked they had been nuked. Not the fresh plump burrito--hot contents, fresh salsa, spiced right-on--reasonable ti expect for $11-12. A quality of generosity lacking. Haven't tried larger plates as haven't the courage! Gone there twice but my wife and I won't return. I'd get the burritos down the street at Nolitas.

Yelp
I was excited reading the reviews! The guac was $15 and was huge amount. But came with a small basket of chips. $3.5 for more chips and this time a full basket. Essentially $20 for guac and chips. Enough said. Although the food was mediocre on top of it. I recommend the pork tacos but not the steak. Too much cartilage and fat. Overall not really enjoyable for us. I wouldn't come back.

Yelp
First time visit. disappointed. The tacos were just average. However, the beef soup was very good. But very expensive for what it was. Asked for a cheese taco, they said it does not come that way. (??). Only beef, chicken or vegetable and you have to get 3. I got one of each, and they were just OK, nothing special, and very small. They also made a mistake calculating the bill. In my favor, not theirs, Totally omitting one entree. I could have said nothing, but that just would not be right. When I pointed it out to them, instead of a thank you, I received a "no problem" response. I kiddingly said, it is not my problem, but the restaurants since they were the ones which would be out the money. the bill went from $19 to $38. as it should have been. But the credit card receipt was for $44. When I asked why they just said the machine does it. Please mistakes happen, and I do not blame the one person for the bill error, it was the combination of the lack of interest plus the $44 for a soup, and 3 so/so tacos, that left me feeling I doubt I would ever go back.

Yelp
A lovely place, ordered Chile Rellenos with Queso. Tasty. Good rice and beans and the side salad with avocado was very fresh. Service was very good and friendly. Would def go back to try something else.

Yelp
I haven't had many things there, but I have had the floutas (sp?) and I love them. Super crunchy nice accoutrements. service is great.

Virginia K.

Yelp
Pass it by! Mole tasted burnt! The tacos were skimpy on the meat! My husband enjoyed the fresh tamarindo juice! Thats all!

Ryan C.

Yelp
A unique Mexican restaurant offering traditional Oaxacan Cuisine. If you like a good crunch get the Tlayuda. The guacamole is a must.

Yelp
Great little eat in restaurant on Warren Street. It doesn't get more authentic than this. Great taste, cordial service in a comfortable setting. A great value too!
