Late-night taco culture lives here: a bustling window serving tripa, asada, and birria until the wee hours. Celebrated by L.A. Taco for capturing the city’s past-midnight taco heartbeat; a true Eastside standby.

One of the best Mexican restaurants! This carnitas plate made me so satisfied. It is so big meal and tasty. Strawberry margarita is pretty and delicious! I’ll try some tacos next time!

Google
I ordered the chicken quesadillas with rice and beans plate. This plate was delicious. The chicken was soft and tender.I also ordered tacos and they were oily and the meat had too much fat for me so I would not buy tacos for myself here. The service is excellent . The inside is very traditional and makes you feel like you are in Mexico. There is very limited parking.

Google

Google
Got a table right away for a small party. Everyone’s food was delicious and came out fairly quick. We all loved the flan and full size churros and ice cream for dessert. Very big portions, enough to share for two people. Super friendly and attentive staff.

Google
I was delightfully surprised by how great the food was. The portions were large and the food tasted fresh and well seasoned. I also appreciated the quiet sitting area during their karaoke night. I will go again if I'm in the area!

Google
This place NEVER disappoints. It's open late and the food and Horchata is delicious. One of my favorite spots anytime of the day. If you're looking for a after hours spot to get some grub and love Mexican food, look no further. The price is right too.

Google
Got a wet shrimp works burrito to go. I cut it open and it smelled wretched. I thought they had served me rotten shrimp. Turns out it was broccoli! The burrito was filled with not just broccoli but also carrots, mushrooms and corn in addition to the shrimp and rice. It was vile and inedible. I double-checked the menu and these ingredients are not listed. Gobsmacked that they served this to me.

Yelp
My friend took me here for the first time on Saturday night around 9 PM. There was only one person ahead of us, so it wasn't busy at all. What we ordered: Carne asada tacos Al pastor tacos Tres leches cake Churro Horchata Everything we ordered was delicious -- not a single miss. The tres leches cake was the best I've ever had. I even dipped the churro in it, and it was just as amazing. The horchata was also sooooo good -- creamy and refreshing. The only issues were that we specifically asked for no cilantro on any of the tacos, but every taco came with cilantro. My friend hates cilantro, so we had to scrape it off the meat, which was disappointing. They also didn't provide napkins. On top of that, the area felt a bit sketchy, as other reviews mentioned. While we were there, someone was walking around asking everyone for money, clearly under the influence. Overall: The food was some of the best tacos I've had in a while, and I'd definitely come back despite the hiccups.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place is open late--it's a rare gem for night owls. And no, I wasn't drunk, so there were no beer goggles clouding my judgment... the food was genuinely delicious. We ordered a ton of food and went full family-style, passing plates and digging in together. Just look at this table--loaded with tacos, arroz con leche, nachos, grilled onions, Mexican sodas, and aguas frescas. There wasn't a single thing we didn't love. Sitting outside gave it this unexpectedly cozy vibe, which made the night even better. Between the great food, the chill atmosphere, and those late-night hours, El Sauz has earned a permanent spot on my go-to list.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place foreverrrr because I always see people lining up at all hours of the night The ambiance was friendly and neighborly - I even witnessed some people running into friends :) The food was bomb and at a super affordable price! We tried the carne asada, al pastor, and chicken tacos - fire. What really set it apart was the hefty portions and fixings in the side with radishes and grilled onions. Taste was also great! I took it home to enjoy it on my couch and I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
After visiting Joe Jost's, we decided to stop by for Taco Tuesday. The restaurant is located inside for a sit-down dinner. They have an outside window to order specifically Tacos, Quesadillas, Burritos, and drinks. Outside seating is available to eat after ordering your food. The place was busy. My Carne Asada and Pork Tacos were simple but tasty. My drink was good.

Yelp
Known for the late night window, don't forget the inside is good in it's own way. Generous portions, great quality, and even a pretty good cocktail menu. Cute decorations for Halloween.

Yelp
I have heard about the El Sauz window for many years in Long Beach, but never stopped by until now. Open late for your 2am taco fix, and that is a rarity in the LBC. The torta ahogada was large and flavorful with a side of sauce to make it even juicier when I got home. Since it was lent season, they had capirotada, so I ordered one of those as well. For $9, it was a full takeout container full of it and could easier have fed 4 people for dessert. The patio was dodgy with plenty of people hitting you up for spare change and buses going by with exhaust fumes. I started my meal there, but then just ate the rest at home. All in all, a solid 4 stars!
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
Ordered over the phone and we were told that it's cheaper to order from the window but they don't open it till 5pm. The shrimp quesadillas were about four dollars each. It comes with a ton of shrimp! But I wasn't a fan of the flavor. We also order the horchata and it tasted like it was fake. Straight syrup sadly.

Yelp
El sauz probably has the best wet burrito I've ever had in my life. I got the wet burrito, birria tacos, and the asada fries. The FLAVOR on the asada fries were crazy good as well as the wet burrito. The seasoning within the meat paired with the sauce and wet tortilla is something I think about to this day and I'd come back just for that. Please get the carne asada wet burrito. Thank you! 8.2. video of food up @maarrjack

Yelp
El Sauz is a solid late night taco spot. They offer a wide variety of meat including some of my faves: buche (pork stomach), lengua (beef tongue), and cabeza (beef head meat). They also offer vegetarian and seafood options. Prices are still thankfully cheap, $2.50 or less per taco, $3.25 or less for quesadillas. Traditional entrees average about $10. Their green salsa is nice and spicy and conveniently in packs to take home. It can get pretty busy with long lines, but they are fast and efficient. Some parking is available in the lot around the patio tables as well as street parking.

Yelp
My first time being here and I must say overall my experience was a great experience. I went on a Tuesday and I sat inside to enjoy my food, the ambience was very cute and simple and there was no wait. The customer service was amazing The waitress was very quick and fast. The food came out fast, the establishment was clean I ordered the wet carne asada burrito and I also had an michelda definitely probably one of the best mi I had in a very long time. The burrito was a nice size. I was able to take some home to have for lunch the next day and it was still just as good as when I first ordered it, I definitely will be back to try other items on the menu.

Yelp
I found this place on uber eats about a month ago and I have ordered almost every week since . These are the one of the best el pastor tacos I've ever hadddddd. I crave them all the time !

Yelp
Thursday October 9th around 3:30pm I had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. The staff there was very rude and unwelcoming from the start. After showing my valid ID, the waitress told me they would be "watching the cameras" to make sure I didn't share my drink -- which made the whole table uncomfortable. It felt unnecessary and disrespectful, especially when we were just trying to enjoy our meal. Unfortunately, the attitude and lack of hospitality completely ruined the experience for us. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless they seriously improve their customer service.

Ramona M.

Yelp
Don't pass this place up. Hidden Gem in LB food, service, and vibe with a beautiful Ambiance. Come inside this place and find out for yourself. My Favorite . The Micheladas and Mexican Candy Shots are sooo good. Complements to the amazing Chef and special Thanks to my server Jackie! so on point each and every-time! My favorite is the Wet Carne Asada Burrito 1/2 Green creamy sauce and 1/2 Red.

Yelp
Hi, This weekend we were looking for something different in the Mexican food category. So, of course, we pulled out yelp to give us some guidance. We weren't overly hungry, and just wanted a bite, but with the cost of food today, it is stupid to not check yelp reviews first! Based solely on yelp reviews, we decided to give El Sauz a try.... It is a smallish restaurant, but it has a private parking lot, which is a plus in Long Beach! Inside it is clean and has adequate seating. We decided to order the chicken nachos (photo below) from the appetizer part of the menu. The portion was huge! Good chips. Plenty of chicken and cheese. It also came with sour cream and Guacamole. The serving was so big, two of us ate off of it, and we still had leftovers!! El Sauz is not gourmet. But the food is decent. Portions huge. Prices fair and good service to boot! I would definitely go back! Jim

Yelp
El Sauz, you are the eternal flame that keeps this city going. It's from all those burners you have going on when there's a line of customers in the dead of night. The menu is all good. And of course tacos are fully loaded with a transcendently spicy salsa. Never change, love you

Yelp
Ordered a Mexican omelette but it was completely burnt & overcooked. I complained to the waitress, so they did not charge me for it. The waitress was nice. The food was bad. 2/5 score.

Carlos J.

Yelp
Im sure the food is great, i politely walked up to the window to ask a question, cashier was very rude and treated me as if coming to the counter to order food was an inconvenience for her. Asked the question anyways, proceeded to be very ride again so i matched her energy. I asked about two tacos for a homeless man who asked me for food, paid and left, as far as im concerned i would not recommend just on the sheer fact that the service was just outright garbage.

Yelp
A Delicious Evening at El Sauz Mexican Restaurant Last night's dinner at El Sauz Mexican Restaurant was another reminder of why I keep coming back! This gem of a place has a taco window that never disappoints, offering a variety of mouth-watering options. Whether you're in the mood for something classic or adventurous, they've got you covered with their wide selection of tacos. As a regular, I have my go-to favorite -- the chicken and shrimp quesadilla, accompanied by perfectly seasoned rice and beans. It's consistently delicious and fills you up without breaking the bank. The pricing is very reasonable, especially given the quality and portions of the food served. The ambiance at El Sauz is casually inviting, with a lively atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. It's a great spot for an evening out, whether you're with family or catching up with friends. Overall, my experiences at El Sauz have always been excellent, marked by friendly service, fantastic food, and a welcoming vibe. If you find yourself craving some authentic Mexican fare, I highly recommend you check out their taco window and maybe even find your own favorite dish! Only thing is parking could be difficult. I know my review is long I just had to get it all in. :)

Yelp
I am obsessed with this place! Even before I tried the food as everyone knows I do Uber Eats all over the So Cal and OC areas. I notice when restaurants are booked and busy. Shoutout to Emily for being so polite. Honestly I enjoy small talk so I can get to know the food and people. I can early with my mom and she was patient and kind. The place is adorable and is a "hole-in-the-wall" so to speak so I love that! I provide honest reviews. So the FOOD duh! Amazing and this is reheated. Only one star because I didn't eat in the restaurant so I heated it up. It's very good though! I'll just be back. Also one star because as soon as you go to your car people are asking for free food which isn't cool because people work hard to eat out in this day and age. Thank you for the pure love Emily and kitchen staff!

Yelp
If you like, love the innards that the place to go ‍ will be back yall. Boom bam boob

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great food, service, and prices. I must confess, this restaurant wasn't on our radar at all until we saw that they were opening a location on 4th St, near us. We wanted to know what to expect, so decided to do a little recon mission one night and visit their OG Anaheim St location. Their parking lot is always packed with people ordering from their window, and on the night we went it was no exception. So it was kind of surprising to see that their dining room was not crowded at all. I guess most people just like to get their stuff to go? There was one of those retractable strap barricade things right by the front door so you couldn't advance very far into the restaurant until the hostess let you in. A little baffling , but not a big deal. Maybe they get really mobbed on weekends? Anyhoo, after we were seated and our friendly server brought out waters and a complimentary chips and salsa (nice crispy chips and the salsa had a decent kick), we ordered the Two cheese enchiladas suizas plate, and two fish tacos a la carte. The enchiladas plate was massive, covered with a healthy (haha) topping of cheese and suizas sauce--so good! The fish tacos had very tender mild grilled white fish and was garnished with a ton of onions, cilantro, and radishes--also very good. We were very impressed with the food and service, and was pleasantly surprised when we got our bill, as we thought the prices were very reasonable for the portions and quality. Their 4th St location can't open soon enough!

Yelp
I've only heard good things about this place so I was so excited to get food here! I got takeout, but they let you look at the menu and seat you while you wait for your order. I ordered 6 tacos, chicken enchilada plate (2 chicken enchiladas, beans, and rice), and horchata. I only ate the chicken enchilada plate and drank the horchata. The chicken enchiladas were amazing, the rice was good, and the beans were great. The horchata was okay, but it did leave a weird film on my tongue every time I drank it. It was different than other horchatas I've had. I'm not sure if I would get it again. The restaurant was super clean, and the staff were so nice. I definitely will sit down and eat there next time. I would also recommend this place to my friends and family!

Yelp
Just came today my first time , I was doordashing one day , and I notice this place is crazy ok the weekend . Must try , I had tacos carne asada and shrimp super good . I want to try a burrito next and birria tacos next and that flan I seen advertised . I'm very picky eating anything but I like the salsa it's different it's a packet but it the red salsa was spicy . I like it but please try jalapeño please the way they season them and how juicy and tender they are we have you in long I love spicy so they did right will come back . I also like how I lost receipt and they still gave me my food when I ran down my order on my own i appreciate no hassle . Thank you !!! For the trust !!! Will come back

Yelp

Yelp
I can't tell you how many times I passed this place to go to church. One evening I was starving and decided to finally try it out since I was in the area. Boy was I surprised!! Their taco Tuesday tacos are amazing!! I ordered one chicken and one Carne asada taco. The chicken was fair and the carne asada was bomb! It was well seasoned unlike the chicken taco. They also have a regular spiced salsa and a very spicy salsa in a packet. My favorite was the very spicy salsa. It added an extra boost of flavor to the tacos after I squeezed lemon on them. Yum, yum, yum!! The service was decent but to be able to get the taco Tuesday price, you have to order outside at the window and not inside. The inside of the restaurant is basic, the parking lot and be a little shady depending on the time of day since the restaurant is near a halfway house of sorts. I will definitely be stopping again!!

Yelp
High-quality Mexican fare with large portions, affordable prices, and service with a smile. My family love this place. i

Joan A.

Yelp
Plain and simple, this was just awful. No flavor in anything. The meat (chicken and beef) was dry, over cooked and hard. The shredded beef was tough, rubbery and way too salty. The mole was more like a sickeningly sweet spaghetti sauce with powdered mole spice mix added in. In addition, everything was cold.

Isabel G.

Yelp
Today I order a molcajete mixto and a jamaica for pick up i specifically said no chicken please replace with cheese or anything else this meal is not cheap I paid a total of 55$ I picked up my meal and the same snotty woman that serve there always give a attitude when serving I left once I got home and saw they gave me extra chicken and no cheese I tried calling back and I had no response I won't be eating here anymore they tossed everything in like if feeding a dog
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
If you're out in Long Beach this late night spot is always the best place for a bite before heading home. It never disappoints! Fast service and always consistent. I got 2 orders of the Birria quesadilla and it was amazing, my only wish was that there was Birria consomé for dipping. The green sauce was good and definitely spicy. If you're planning to eat there on a late night don't expect a nice table set up, it's more of a simple place to sit quickly with some good food or order to go
google avatar

Jeff Y.

Yelp
Had seen this place many times and decided to finally try it. They have some tables set up outside for dine-in, but the actual booths indoors are not available at this time. Many people also ordered food to-go. There is a small parking lot but it fills up quickly. Order food at the window, and pick-up when they call your number. I was a bit annoyed that the picture slideshow showed many food items not listed out on the menu; I wish their menu actually showed all of their dishes. We ended up ordering several tacos, a quesadilla with flour tortilla, a flan, and a tamarind agua fresca. The tacos were small street tacos and tasty plus authentic; I especially enjoyed the crispy tripa. The salsa was a bit too spicy for me that day. The agua fresca was mediocre, and the flan a bit dense and sweet. Prices were affordable, so that is probably the main draw. Overall, a solid taquería.
google avatar

LeAnn F.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for a great late night taco spot and found this one. It's open till 2 am. They have their own parking lot. They have indoor and outdoor seating. You order at their window outside and they call out your number on the speakers. I went there around 12:30 and there were plenty of people ordering. I heard it's a local spot here. The tacos were $2 each. I got the Al Pastor Taco, Cabeza Taco, Carnitas Taco. I love how juicy the meats are. This taco is bigger than the street tacos with it being so filled up. They give you only one salsa, which this Abuela said it was really spicy. I wish they have other salsa options you can choose from.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
I'm not going to lie, I fear for life everytime I come here lol I low key get scared. Other than that great amazing food! Really like their birria tacos!!!! But everything overall is really good!

Anthony G.

Yelp
The other day I ordered a pastor Cali burrito for pick up, it had shrimp and onions, I am allergic to shrimp. Cali burrito doesn't not come with shrimp or onions. I called to ask for a refund the day of they said the manager will call me back twice that I called. Never got a call.so when a manager was finally there A week later I called again and the manager said they could do nothing to help because I didn't have the receipt. He put the blame on me saying they couldn't help me. I'm a consistent customer and haven't experienced bad service up until now. I will not be coming back after my experience with the manager. :(

Yelp
Just tried this place and it did not disappoint. The food was great and a lot of it. The prices were also good. Very friendly atmosphere and good service. I had the cheese enchilada/chile rellano plate, husband had the nachos, and a shrimp taco all was very good. We will be back.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I frequent El Sauz pretty regularly and we've never been disappointed. On top of great Mexican cuisine they have amazing dessert like rice pudding or cheese flan.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
This is THE spot to be after a Friday/Saturday night at the club. I've never dined-in here, but it's a great spot for take-out or late night drunchies and they're open until 3AM. What more could you ask for? There's always a line on weekend nights, so expect about a 20 minute wait for your food to come out. I love getting the tripa tacos, carne asada quesadillas, and carne asada fries!!! The portion is quite large for one person, so it's perfect for sharing. Their green salsa HITS. Pour it all over your tacos and enjoy. Careful if you can't handle spice!
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
This place was bad. My fiance got the fish taco and carne asada burrito and had to throw both away. The burrito had a sour taste and had weird clumps of cheese possibly? It was late after a Disney trip and we should have just got McDonald's.
google avatar

Rosa R.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now and we love the tacos. They are big and meat portions are huge! I also had a sope and the sopes are good too but too much lettuce. Which it's not a big deal. They also have an outdoor ordering area and tables are placed outside the parking lot. The inside of the restaurant is not so inviting. It's not ugly, it's not dull, old and no AC! It was very hot inside which to me was uncomfortable! They cram everyone to the left of the restaurant. While the rest of the restaurant is empty. Maybe that's why it was so HOT! Service was good !!! Good tacos!!!
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
The yummiest Mexican food! I got the horchata, barbacoa taco, and chicken enchilada plate. The enchilada plate portion size is huge and so flavorful! The barbacoa taco is on another level. I love how it comes with grilled onions. Adds in another level of depth to the flavor. The horchata was so rich and wasn't too overly sweet. There's a small parking lot as well.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Carne Asada wet burrito, Chile Verde, Posole, Pescado frito, Caldo de Polo are just some of the reasons I keep coming back to this Mexican restaurant. Oh and I forgot the hot chips and awesome salsa!!! Probably one of the best chips and salsa's ever given out at a Mexican restaurant is hands down!!! If you like wet burritos try the the Carne asada wet with the green sauce but Beware it is hot going in hanging out and coming out LOL The Chile Verde is one of their signature dishes which is super yummy with lots of flavor. The cardenita's plate is large and what have you full Is faster than you know it... In the cold months you definitely have much to choose from with pasola, menudo and caldo's galore. If you're in Long Beach and are looking for some good Mexican with great prices stop in try him out tell me what you think.
google avatar

Megan N.

Yelp
I ate here about a month ago and I'm still craving their tripas tacos omg they're so good

Zack W.

Yelp
Amazing quality of food and customer service. Cool artwork all over for ambiance. I'm glad I finally tried this place because it's absolutely incredible! 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with the carne asada fries. Always enough to make it two meals for me and it reheats well. If they're busy when picking up orders I usually go to the taco window for a snack

George Washington W.

Yelp
El Sauz tacos are MID at best. I only come here when I'm down bad and haven't eaten past 1 am. All tacos come with their Diabolical HOT sauce which will leave your mouth burning with pain and will turn your butthole into a faucet. Other than that, the flan is pretty bomb. And they'll charge $5 for a coke bottle if you pay with credit card.

Kaiya A.

Yelp
Holy sh*t do not eat here! That was bad food if you can call it food. no flavor, an overwhelming amount of charred meat in every meal. my friend and I have stomach aches, and we found hairs in our nachos. If I could I'd leave 0 stars. Do your self a favor and eat anywhere else.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
the food here is so good. the best place for second dinner. they have really good veggie quesadillas and veggie tacos. the service here is amazing and really fast. the parking can be bad at times but the food is worth it. out door seating available but usually full. also the donut place that shares a parking lot with them is amazing and perfect for getting dessert.
google avatar

Splinter J.

Yelp
Generous portions and great ambience inside. Unfortunately, cannot make up for the lackluster flavor of the food. The presentation of my Carnegie esotta wet burrito was fantastic but I was quickly disappointed by the minimal flavor of both the sauce and the meat. Even more disappointing was that the service was excellent. Canada's is still king of mexican food in Long Beach.

Yelp
Great price and open late. Everything is good but mostly recommend the quesabirria tacos.
