El Sauz Tacos

My family and I have been coming here since the 90s when the owners used to have the lunch truck across the street. This place has made changes for the worse, unfortunately. Burritos are now much smaller. They are like 75% in size of what they used to be. As a reference to illustrate the new small size of the burritos, I have added pictures of one of the burritos pictured along with two of the small salsa containers they give you with to go orders. Obviously, very small burritos. More detail: Some time ago, we noticed the increase in price and the use of a smaller tortilla for the burritos. We were OK because a price increase was reasonable during the times, but we also noticed they started using a smaller tortilla. Regardless of the smaller tortilla, they still put the same amount of carne asada and everything else. Today, we ordered by phone the usual 3 burritos. When we got home and took the burritos out of the bag, SURPRISE!!: we got the three smallest burritos we had ever seen. Much smaller than what we had become accustomed in the past 30+ years of coming here. I suggested my wife to go back and complain, but since we live about 20 minutes away, and it was dinner time, we decided to call instead. We tried to speak with the owner or the owner's son who was there when we got our food. I doubt the person who responded to our concern was either of them. He did not appear to care much, and he just said that he was sorry and that what we got today was going to be it in the future. Hopefully they correct the course they are taking with smaller burritos, higher price (which I am OK with), and poor interest in customer satisfaction. Thanks!

This restaurant only accepts cash which is disappointing for a small business that can get tech for card payments, even food trucks take card payments. The asada burrito was small and cost me 23 dollars and the flavor was ok, not what I expected from a Mexican restaurant, They definitely need improvement. They have their own parking lot which is a plus and parking was available. Overall I would not recommend this place for the price they charge stay away.

Excellent burritos and tacos. Food is consistently good, made fresh and delicious. This is a cash only place but there is an ATM if needed. Loved it.

I got their Torta with el pastor meat. It had in in it Beans, Avocado, Tomato Onions, Cilantro, Mayo & Salsa. The bread was nice and toasted and I have to say this thing had some good flavor. I added the jalapeño that they give you on the side inside the torta to add some more heat. I highly recommend trying the torta here they are so good only downside is they can be messy and the meat and beans fall out.

It was my first time here and I’m honestly very upset, all the tables were dirty when I asked worker to clean she just gave me napkins (like am I your employee?) I’m not talking even about the floor and walls 🤐 Second thing that was really upsetting is the size and price for the tacos !!! Please owner of this restaurant review your service!

El Sauz has been my favorite taco hut for 20+ years! They're under new'ish ownership and the food is still great as usual! I LOVE their ceviche and veggie burritos!

Needed a taco fix and with the good reviews I thought id give this place a try. First off, parking is terrible everyone that isn't visiting the restaurant parks here and people must think they own the place because they park where ever they want, just because they drive a lambo, really? Cash only, ordered 5 tacos and took 25mins, not worth the wait but I have to say the burritos looked like they were the best deals and sufficient in size and price. Only to go orders... currently not seating patrons. Lastly, I should've specified two different orders with the tacos.. it all came in one foil and was hard to eat in the car having to share with someone. I'd love to come back and give this place a try. Asada - meh, pass on this Buche - moist and flavorful Pastor - great flavor Get a burrito, tacos not worth it.

This spot makes some of the best tacos al pastor I’ve had outside Mexico City. The trompo is right by the counter, and the meat is always juicy. The salsa bar is fully stocked, which I appreciate. Parking is a bit tough in their small lot, but it’s worth it. A true gem in Glendale

Here's an update. STILL the BEST tacos in Glendale. I've tried a bunch. Tents, trucks, stands, whatever... El Sauz (no. 1 on Chevy Chase and San Fernando) is by far, the best around. I've been coming to El Sauz Tacos in Glendale for years, and it's hands down one of my favorite taco spots. The food is consistently great--fresh, flavorful, and exactly what you want from authentic Mexican street-style tacos. My go-to order is the asada burrito and a few tacos on the side. They never disappoint. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better every time I visit. They also have a good amount seating that's comfortable. That said, there are a couple of things that can be a little inconvenient. First, El Sauz isn't available on any delivery apps, so if you want their food, you have to make the trip to Glendale. It's worth it, but sometimes I wish I could just order in. Second, they only accept cash, so be sure to bring some with you because they don't take card payments. Despite those small drawbacks, I keep coming back because the food and service are that good. If you're in the area, definitely give them a try!

I've been going to this spot for years and had to stop by for some tacos and a burrito on my visit to CA . Per usual food didn't disappoint. My chicken burrito was delicious! Tacos were great too. This is a popular local hang out with simple but solid food. It's always busy . Service was great and quick . Will be back on my next visit to Glendale.

El Sauz is truly delicious and authentic food. I always need to stop here when I'm in the area. It's a cash only spot but they have an ATM inside for the convenience. The service is also good here they people are very friendly but it's almost like a familial friendly. I highly recommend this little spot. Good amount of seating too!

Places like this are one of the many reasons I LOVE CALIFORNIA!!! Small hole in the wall spot for amazing street tacos! Fresh tortillas with all the fixings. Fresh homemade salsa. Cash only so come prepared. Nothing fancy here just AMAZING tacos!

I am sad to give 1 star to this place, because it used to be one of my go-to spots, and won't be going anymore. I don't really post on yelp unless I have had very negative experiences multiple times and/or it's unsafe - Bad service example: Ordered horchata with food. Food was ready to grab, there was no horchata. Asked where's horchata. They said no more horchata. I said... Okay, then how long will it take to make new batch? They said they'll give Jamaica instead cuz that's available. I said I don't want Jamaica, I ordered and paid for horchata. Why didn't you tell me there was horchata before? They do a BIG SIGH and AUDACITY TO ROLL THEIR EYES then comply to make new batch... THAT TOOK 30 MINUTES. Unsafe examples: I've found plastic in the food. I've probably unknowingly consumed them thinking they were onions (see picture). Also, the meat tastes funky/old at times. There were babies/kids in the restaurant, so was very upset to think they might've consumed plastic and funky meat.

Loved the pastor burritos from here and I would definitely come back to try more items! The red salsa pairs well and I love that they offer jalapeños and radishes on the side. Just remember it's cash only!

This cash-only spot is a gem both in price and quality. I got a taco of almost every kind of meat, and each meat was cooked perfectly and uniquely. The chicken had its own flavor and seasoning, as did the carne asada, the cabeza, etc. I also love quesadillas, but I've never been so blown away by a flavorful, meat-filled quesadilla before! For only $10, I definitely got my fill, and it didn't feel like globs of cheese with some lackluster meat pieces strewn about. It was a good balance between onions, cheese, al pastor,... El Suaz Tacos really knows what they're doing. As I was waiting for my food, I overheard some regulars talking about the restaurant, saying they've been going here since childhood, they trust this location, they love the service, and the people know how to cook. This place is their taco home, and I can see why! They have their own parking lot, so parking was easy, and they have 7 tables that seat 4 people each, but most people were just sitting down waiting for their food. ATM machine located inside as well. Really happy that I stumbled upon this place during my quick trip to LA!

Solid tacos for under $2 at this cash only spot. We got the asada, lengua & cabeza. Partner loved the lengua and cabeza and I thoroughly enjoyed both the asada & lengua but preferred the asada. Good salsas & the prices can't be beat. Food came out fast and service was good. Would def stop in again when in the area.

El Sauz has hands down the best tacos and burritos in Glendale! The flavor is truly authentic Mexican, and every bite tastes fresh. On top of that, the service is always friendly and welcoming.

Only ate here once, got some tacos and they were barely decent. Cabeza and al pastor were super bland, asada was a little better but still only ok, salsas were not great either. They did not cheap out on extra stuff though like grilled peppers and salsas so that's a plus. The lady at the counter was nice. Especially for the price not worth it at all. Or maybe I just got really unlucky, judging by all the positive reviews. One more thing - cash only, really? Why make people jump through hoops to pay you, come on now. Even the guys who sling mixtapes out on the street take cards these days.

BEST BURRITO OF MY LIFE! From the moment I walked in and heard only Spanish, I knew this place was going to be good. The inside is quaint, clean, and welcoming. I got a combo breakfast burrito for only $11 and it came with all fresh ingredients, well rounded flavors, gooey cheese when you take each bite, warm meats and scrambled eggs... just, amazing. Exactly what I wanted. I will definitely go out of my way to visit this place again. I do need to mention though that this place is CASH ONLY which was a little inconvenient for me since I never carry cash with me. They did have an ATM but I didn't have my debit card. Thankfully, another customer had cash, so I Zelled them in exchange. Overall, definitely worth it. I also got the horchata which was the perfect finish and super great pricing as well.

i had no idea this taco spot is located in glendale. as a new customer, i am most definitely hooked on this place. i will be coming here more often as a regular. ahah. this taco spot gives off super chill vibes as you walk inside. you notice everyone chit chatting & enjoying their food. love the welcoming atmosphere. the gentleman that helped get our food ordered was wonderfully kind. i can tell he enjoys satisfying people amazing food and lovely helpful attitude. i had the chance to try their tacos & quesadilla. 3 el pastor tacos & 3 carne asada tacos and wow! absolutely delicious and i love love love that they can add cheese on top! the meats were nicely seasoned. not chewy at all. i don't like chewy meat. their quesadilla was really good as well. a bit too spicy for my palate but to each their own. they have outdoor parking which is convenient. indoor seating which is nice but tables are limited when it's busy.

I was in the area and we were craving tacos like usual and I went on yelp and found this little place. I walked in on a Friday around noon time. There was a few people ordering and eating. This place is CASH only, but do have an ATM on site. The young man, I believe the owner is super friendly and welcoming. I appreciate how kind he was and he made sure everyone was acknowledged. We tried the al pastor and the asada. Both were good but my al pastor didn't have much sweetness from the pineapple as we'd like. Food came out pretty quick and if I was in the area, I would definitely come back.

My go to for Chorizo and Egg Breakfast Burrito. Fresh and the Meat is something special.

Tacos were really good, all of them! Both sauces were good! Tostadas were okay. They gave us lots of radish and grilled serrano peppers, chef's kiss! Definitely will go back to try their burritos.

My first asada in my life i try at this spot. If you are not a Mexican food expert and you want to try something special. I recommend you go this place. Service is really good and fast. They have couple tables inside also outside price and quality match. I love this spot sometimes I'm driving from North Hollywood to Glendale just to take my lunch.

Pretty solid Mexican food! They have been at this corner for many many years. I haven't had them in a while but was looking for a good breakfast burrito in the area and I wanted it with carne asada (instead of ham, sausage, or bacon). El Sauz to the rescue and it was just want I wanted! Burrito was pretty filling with a good amount of meat, beans, eggs, potatoes with chopped tomatoes and jalapeños, and cheese. It was pretty evenly divided ingredients wise. I do wish their salsa had a little more flavor but the grilled chiles seranos made up for it! No picture this time because I was hangry BUT I'll def be back and snap a pic!

I used to live next door to this place. On good days, it served up some of the best burritos and tortas I've ever had. Some days are off, and the burritos are rather dry. I think some of their cooks drain the meats more or less than others. I particularly like things juicy and a little messy. Anyway, can't go wrong with the pollo or asada. The other stuff is solid (I've tried them all), but none of them blow me away. The cabesa is my least favorite of theirs, but it's still better than a lot of what else is out there. The service has improved. Prices went up alot here like everywhere. I miss being so closeby. I'd give it 5 if it were always good, but it's just too inconsistent.

The best breakfast burritos!! I especially love the homemade salsas- green is my favorite. I've also had the asada burrito and ceviche tostada. All delicious and made to order.

I want to start off with saying i am really picky with mexican food. Having been to mexico few times and it definitely cannot compared This was a cheap taco/ burrito joint near home. It's not the best taco or burrito place you will ever have but it is cheap and cash only and fill your stomach up. Dont forget to bring cash.

A spot in Glendale, ca that's been there since the 90's. Bomb burritos, tacos. Small spot. Can only fit like 10-15 heads for dine in. CASH ONLY!!!!! They have atm inside. I've been coming here for a minute. I always have dealt with the nice Latin lady at night. There is a youngster that I've seen also That has great customer service. I do recommend. I know there are a few taco spot in Glendale, but el Sauz is one of the O.G's. They took Gina's tacos out!! Come try. The best asada burrito in town! The steak is so flavorful and they do a great job blending it with the cheese and beans. Highly recommended - but cash only!

We are visiting from out of town and asked the bartender at our hotel in Glendale where to get the best tacos. El Sauz was one of his two recommendations so we decided to give it a try! After a long day at Universal Studios we were definitely hungry but didn't want to eat at the park so we went to El Sauz to pick up food to take back to our room. El Sauz is situated on the corner and has a parking lot for about 20 cars plus local street parking. It's a small place with about 7 tables for dine-in and there were several people eating there when we arrived at about 7 PM on a Sunday. After we ordered we noticed a steady line of customers the whole time we were there but the line moved pretty quick. They only accept cash but have an ATM right there, I had cash but no biggie either way. El Sauz offers tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas with the choice of Asada, Al Pastor, Pollo, Cabeza, and Lengua. I wish they also had Chorizo but they do not. They also have Agua Fresca. We ordered a variety of tacos, an Asada Quesadilla and a Pollo Torta and some Jamaica and Horchata. The food came with radishes, chile asados (roasted) jalapeños and lemons (not limes). The tacos had some onions and cilantro but very little so it would be nice if they gave that in a baggie on the side too. I'm sure you can ask. It also came with red and green salsas. The salsas were both great and full of flavor! The tacos were all great, but we liked the Al Pastor the best. The Asada quesadilla was also really good but there were a lot of areas with just tortilla and no meat or cheese...that was all mostly in the middle. My favorite was the torta, it was delicious and had great flavors from the pollo, beans, avocado and all the other condiments! We enjoyed our food and recommend you give this place a try!

Got an asada burrito. The burrito was mid, not gon lie. It was so salty and just one of the worst burritos I've had. The service was fast but the restaurant was dirty as hell. Tables full of food from prior customers. I won't be back.

Juicy, delicious and crispy asada. One of the best places to get burritos in Glendale.

This is the third time I've eaten here. Previously, we sampled various dishes. Including asada tacos. The food is basic. If the word basic now includes being fresh and conveying a comforting feeling of familiarity. The menu is basic. with a variety of burritos, tortas, tacos quesadillas along with asada fries. I love Mexican food because if one of my favorite dishes is on the menu, it will tell me how the rest will taste. They had one of my top 5 favorites... Pastor The hubby and I had Pastor quesadillas. Our friend had a gimongous asada burrito. The pastor is to die for and the asada is badass. The pastor was grilled perfect. Slightly crispy but still juicy and the marinade was able to stand up to being cooked on what I assume was an open flame. It tasted like it was grilled on an open flame. Not sure what kind of cheese but it tasted very much in the Mexican theme so I'm guessing a mix of Cotija and a soft melt like Queso de Oaxaca. They serve their items with two kinds of delicious homemade salsa as well as expected traditional accompaniments like grilled jalapeño peppers, radishes and lemon wedges. If you couldn't tell, I really liked this place!

Was excited to come here for my first time. I'm not sure if the food is enough to bring me back because the lady at the front was not great. As stated it gets busy. Only a few people ahead of us. Got to the counter to order and the lady was the worst interaction I've had. I asked what the combo has. She didn't even look in my direction and said it fast and low. Then I also asked what's inside the burrito. Same thing! I had to ask again a few times because she was so off putting and like I was ruining her day. Made me feel stupid for asking. I didn't want to hold up the line so I just ordered. Didn't take long to get our food. The food was good. The asada was a little bland but the salsa made up for it. What's funny is they have a sign up for a cashier position. I hope they hire someone friendly and with patience. All in all. Food didn't take long. They only take cash. Food was 4/5. Lastly, the lady that made me feel like I don't deserve to go back.

This place is a classic taco shop!! Everytime I want authentic Mexican tacos, I end up here! The place is cash only so make sure to bring cash. If you don't, they have an atm machine there so you don't have to worry. We got tacos and a burrito to share and it was amazing!! The red sauce is more on the spicy side but it's delicious! They give you a generous side of jalapeños, radishes and lemons too. Soo soo good!!!

This place is my go to taco and burrito place. King Taco is over rated. The food is tasty and fair priced. I see all walks of life at this eatery, enjoying fast Mexican delicacy. I always see a line of customers whenever I visit this place. The best is that they give abundant vegetables such as radish slices, lemon wedges and grilled chili peppers. Love their red salsa and green salsa. The only drawback is that they only accept cash but they do have an ATM in case you forget to have lunch money. They have decent amount of parking.

If you don't speak spanish, expect your order to be wrong. Food is never consistent either.

This review is long overdue, I've been coming to this place for longer than 10 years and every time I come i love it more and more, it hits the spot EVERY SINGLE TIME, It kind of got to the point where I feel guilty if I go eat Mexican food at another place. El sauz was and is and always will be one of the greatest landmarks in Glendale and we are so thankful and happy have such a place in the area 5 stars is not good enough because they deserve 10 at least.

Was hesitant of a taco place in Glendale but glad we decided to try. The man at the register was very kind. The food was ready pretty fast and they added lots of salsa and chiles/radishes. Food was very good as were both of salsas.

These tacos are mid. We ordered asada and Al pastor tacos and the meats weren't very tender and lacking in flavor. The tortillas were almost cold? And just tasted like day old tortillas. It smelled great upon parking and ordering but once we ate them didn't impress me at all. The service was good the man was really nice and they have a little seating area outside around the back. My suggestion just go to NoHo and get some at a taco stand.

This is a nice little spot for some quick Mexican food. We stopped for a late breakfast. It was my first time here, so I just ordered a burrito with chorizo. Just the weight of the burrito alone felt solid and filled with deliciousness. After unwrapping the foil from the burrito and taking my first bite, i could smell the eggs and chorizo and tortilla and could see the steam from the food fresh off the grill. Their salsa rojo was had the perfect amount of heat to compliment the burrito. The spicy but not overpowering and it made the burrito that much better. The burrito was wrapped so delicately, when I got to the bottom, it was still in tact, nicely folded and neat, keeping everything together. Their menu is full of more delicious food items, and there's a variety of different meats to choose from. There was a line when I arrived and a line when I was leaving which means, there's a large following of local customers so they're doing something right!

Been here multiple times and probably won't return for tacos or burritos or whatever else the on the menu. The carne asada is bland for my taste; chicken was super salty; the corn tortilla tasted like it barely touches the grill, meaning dry and hard. Breakfast burritos are good and they have good salsas. Workers here are super nice. Am confused as to why this taco spot is so popular.

I had a great, no-frills tostada pescado and carne asada quesadilla. No ambience at all, but there's no need with food this good.

Solid taco spot with friendly staff. Cash only. Food 8/10 -- We tried the carne asada burrito and tacos. Also the el pastor tacos. Burrito was on the smaller side but it is packed with meat. Out of the two meats, we liked the carne asada more. Definitely would come back to try other items. Service 10/10 -- Cashier was really friendly and helpful. There was a line behind us but we never felt rushed while ordering. If you forget cash, there's an ATM machine inside. Environment 7/10 -- They used to have indoor dining but it looks like they only offer outdoor tables now. Didn't look like there were restrooms available for customers (I may have missed it?). They have their own parking lot so parking and picking up food was easy. Cleanliness 8/10 -- Restaurant seemed well kept. No complaints. Value 9/10 -- Overall a solid spot for quick tacos at a decent price.

Best asada burrito in LA. I've had many burritos and this one is the real deal. Meat is juicy and flavorful. Not greasy. It's cash only so I go ready with that in hand. Whenever I'm in the area this is a FULL STOP. 10/10!!!

Restaurant is cash only, they do have an atm inside but there is of course a transaction fee so better to get cash before going. Food is great and service is fast. Tacos are small but very tasty.
