Palm Beach County’s Best Tacos

"Opened in March 2024, El Segundo, in the old Troy’s BBQ location on Georgia Avenue, is Rodney Mayo’s newest addition to his Subculture Group of restaurants. Try the brisket burnt ends tacos made with locally sourced tortillas or the mole chicken tacos. The ambiance of this restaurant, operating out of what looks like an old wooden garage, with the bustle of cars racing across the Southern Boulevard overpass, is the perfect setting for street-style tacos in South Florida." - J. Miller

Not one note. At first you might say this a vibe mexican spot and yes you would be right. But it is so much more, the Gabby or server was not only knowledgeable and attentive, but you could tell from our conversation she loved working here. Situated in what they call the peach surrounded by art and art galleries, you come to eat delicious food, but also have an experience. We started with the elote corn dip, with house made chips. The dip is everything you want in any dip you taste, creamy, chunky, seasoned, with a hint of lime. We will be coming back just for the dip. Followed by their blackened chicken quesadilla. Stuffed with chicken and cheese. Served with their house made guacamole, pico, and crema (which is literally never like, but could not stop eating this on everything). This is a meal in and of itself. We then tried four different tacos, each one uniquely different and again filled with different meats and flavors, my favorite being the pork chiccharron ceviche taco. We will keep coming back, especially now that we were told they are opening a "brick and mortar" location in palm beach gardens. I am hoping they are able to keep the something special they have at their west palm location.

El Segundo, a funky little Mexican restaurant hidden away in west Palm beach. This is anther Subculture Restaurant which we have come to enjoy what Subculture has to offer. A Mexican theed building in a small section of Georgia Ave with some art studios and shops which we may also try to visit on our next encounter at El Segundo. We started with a Birria Taco which has become one of our favorite Mexican dishes, most Mexican restaurants in Palm Bea county don’t serve them. Birria tacos are known for their juicy, flavorful meat and the signature dipping liquid. Their $5.00 Margaritas are also hard to pass up. We followed that with fish taco’s and a pulled pork taco which could have used less BBQ sauce, otherwise it was packed with pork and delicious. The fish tacos were fried and plenty of slaw and sauce that overpowered the fish but again. Next time; We will try their Colombian Street Dog which is Wagyu Beef Frank, Brioche roll, Roasted Garlic Aioli, Charred Pineapple Relish, French Sauce, Quail Egg and served with Voodoo Chips. Being a hot dog freak this sounded too good to pass up. Coconut Cake for desert will be also on the list when we go back. Also, we would re-order the birria tacos!

We just so randomly happen to come across this location while searching somewhere to eat and let me tell you IT WAS MEANT TO BE! The vibe is great! Customer service 10/10 and the food was delicious 🔥! Birria tacos were delicious and the best way to end the meal with an infused cold brew!

This place is my new go to secret spot. If you’re looking for a vibrant spot in West Palm Beach that nails both flavor and atmosphere, El Segundo is a must-visit. My recent meal here was a fantastic experience from start to finish, with each dish offering a fresh and creative twist on classic Mexican-inspired favorites. The setting at El Segundo is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of natural light and a casual, friendly vibe. The food presentation is playful yet polished, served on colorful trays and checkered paper that add to the lively ambiance. We had the guacamole and mole wings to start. Both were a great chose. For the main course we split tacos (left to right - chicharrone ceviche, two fish tacos, and on the right is El Big Mac taco which is basically a cheeseburger taco which I loved because it is different) and a Street Corn Caesar with Smoked Pork: This salad was a standout-crisp romaine, tangy dressing, and the addition of smoky, tender pork took it to the next level. The crunchy croutons and sprinkle of tajin added a nice punch. I took pics of the menu because we have so much more to try (birria tacos for sure) and 50/50 marg are my next order. In summary, this is a perfect casual post beach taco spot off the beaten path.

Skylar and Gabby are so sweet and great at what they do! Best fish taco in town! My lanta I am blown away with how scrumptious everything was. I can’t wait to go back. Ambiance, service and food was spectacular! Do yourself a favor and give them a try!

Google
I've had beef brisket burrito and I think it could be better. To my taste it was a bit too dry, had too much onions and not enough of actual beef. The staff is too tense despite very upbeat music.

Google
Super excellent food at the finest level. Did take out but wished we ate at the restaurant. You need to know about this place else you might not be aware of it - so please consider yourself now “in the know” and go! Very very good - worth the journey and you’ll be extremely happy.

Yelp
This place was hidden down Georgia St and I didn't know what to expect! I pulled up and saw all the colorful umbrellas and the live music was playing which gave a great vibe! Tacos were excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive! I will be back soon!!

Yelp
A great little spot and I would go back just for the corn cheese dip and chips. My Cali fish taco was a bit dry for me but the pulled pork taco was fantastic. There is no AC so I wouldn't go to this place in the middle of a hot day. But there are a lot of umbrellas for shade and the ambiance was nice. The service was nice and quick. Parking seems to be street parking only but it was free so I like that.

Yelp
Really 3* but extra for local business just starting up in really well done location. Apparently open since early March so a few teething problems. Related to coffee shop on 500 block on Clematis- so they should know what's what. Location part of small Peach art complex in residential area near Brightline track and under Southern Boulevard bridge. Sort of hard to get to unless you know the area. This may explain why on Saturday night just 3-4 tables eating. Clear menu with reasonable pricing. Booze more expensive than the food. Mojito served in smallish "glass" without visible lime wedge or mint. We tried two to ensure not a mistake. Considering the number of guests service slow but very friendly. They have an order by phone system which I had only seen in New York, Washington and Philadelphia during Covid. As then the server took the order anyway and was good. Chips and salsa different. Chips good/ better than normal Salsa a pastie type of texture with low tomato and bite. Smokey Mole wings disappointment. Certainly smokey but I like them well cooked /dry. These seemed to have been cooked on big local smoker but too quickly so softer vaguely red inside. Personal choice? Tacos of Al Pastor which I assume was pork tasted good was overloaded on small soft taco but cold. Brisket taco similar size and tasty meat. Back to the location. Really nicely set up outdoor and indoor BBQ place with funky upturned umbrellas on patio and good view of art space. We were there to see a cycle exhibition but we were told they have something 1-2 times per week. A sign said an art walk first? Saturday might be worth a visit. My guess is this place will struggle unless it gets some repeat customers or they organize a number of events to drive people to seek out this cool spot. Somehow I feel it lacks critical mass. If they could expand under flyover bridge and into the adjacent warehouse and drag in more trade it could become a residential hot spot.

Yelp
Disappointing. I really wanted to like this place, but a big swing and miss. Chips and salsa: 2 of 5 stars...salsa has little flavor, chips are homemade, and just okay. Chips and pimento cheese dip: 1 of 5, served lukewarm and just really bad Guacamole; 0 of 5 stars. We were told they didn't have any ripe avocados. How does this happen at a Tex-Mex place? Chicken Quesadilla: 2 of 5 stars, much like everything else, just lacked flavor. Chicken Tacos: 2 of 5 stars...see above Birria Tacos: 3 of 5 stars, I don't think there is such a bad thing as bad Birria.,.but this was just meh...the sauce was more like a soup than a dip and not terribly flavorful. Fish Tacos: 5 of 5 stars, fantastic, cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I would come back for these! If you do go, go in with the right expectations...I was told you would be basically going to a food truck. This was true, but the building itself is very cool...the food, (apart from the fish tacos) just wasn't any good. .

Yelp
Friends & Family VIP opening night. The Sub-Culture group did it again. We got to sample tacos, chips & salsa & classic margaritas. The food was delicious and the vibe was chill. The whole "Peach" area is very artsy and eclectic. We did order via the toast tab app which was convenient. The service and staff was all very friendly and available to ask any questions.

Yelp
I had a friend visiting from out of town and she was in the mood for tacos. The place that I normally go to is closed on Mondays, so with a quick web search we came across El Segundo--and I'm so happy we did! This place has such a chill, laid-back and relaxed vibe, the food was incredible, and the service was great! Shout outs to Bradley and Zaii! These dudes were awesome and made you feel so welcomed. We ordered the guac, the Mexican Cadillac burger, and my friend got a variety of tacos--ohh and get yourself the $5 margarita, you won't be disappointed. Everything was great here from top to bottom, and I'll for sure be back!

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp, as I was trying to get some New Mexican place. I got the Birria tacos to the first time and they were on fire. Second time I went I got 2 el pastor tacos and Flor de calabaza, the flor was very good. I don't eat pork but girlfriend said they are good. I got the mole smoked wings for us to also try, but probably would not get them again. Does not really have a mole taste to them, more of a bbq Texas smoked taste, which is fine if you like that. Had a fish taco as I waited for the food to go, I will definitely be having the fish taco again! Super fresh and good combo of slaw and pineapple. Gabriela the bartender was super nice and helpful with food selections. Bradly the owner is nice as well. Will def continue coming back. Only wish they would include a vodka special (house if fine), for the happy hour times from now hour 4-6 menu to be competitive for other locations. They have $5 margaritas and other liquor specials that others might like.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Service is great, management really cares. Ambiance is adorable with indoor and outdoor seating that is adorably decorated. We had the grace and chips, the burnt brisket taco, chicken mole taco, and the Al pastor taco. All were fantastic but our favorite was the Al pastor. We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Love the vibe at this cute little place with vibrant colors. The chips and salsa were delicious as well as the guacamole. Tacos and Quesadillas were fantastic as well and the margaritas are perfect. We have dined here several times and we are so happy to find this little gem. Looking forward to trying more items on the menu.

Omg or the Pimento Cheese Elote Dip! soooo good! I also had the brisket burnt ends and al pastor tacos, amazing! Especially the home made tortillas! Very cool concept where you order from your table and it's brought to you. Fun atmosphere, great food, and fun vibes. Check this place out!

Yelp
Awesome, authentic, amazing atmosphere, and a chill vibe most places only strive for. Don't tell anyone about this place, because it's going to blow up and I'll never be able to get a table again.

Yelp
If you haven't made it over to El Segundo, you're missing out. Cocktails are perfect and the food is off the chart. Vibe is amazing. Run don't walk to this place. Not your typical popup taco spot. It's got a killer vibe great bartender and even better food. I was blown away.

Greg G.

Yelp
One of the coolest places I've ate it. Atmosphere is chill and some of the best tacos I've ever had. Well done.
