The 17 Best Restaurants In Manhattan Beach - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"While there’s always been a decent crop of casual Mexican joints in MB, nothing comes close to El Sombrero. This decades-old staple with two locations in the neighborhood has a long menu of solid dishes, and few things cost more than $15. It’s the kind of cheesy, saucy, old-school Mexican food you’d want after a long day at the beach. We’re talking enchiladas, chile rellenos, and wet burritos the size of your forearm." - nikko duren, brant cox, garrett snyder

Large portions and reasonable prices. Family of 5 n 2 cocktails came to $117. Still had food to take home. Enjoyed enchiladas, moms burrito, suave tacos, and endless chips. Service was a bit nuts but full house on Saturday so they tried their best. Will keep coming back.

My wife & I had a pleasant evening out. Food was much better than most and the service was excellent. We have been coming here for quite sometime and they NEVER disappoint.

Google
I have been going here for some time now and always wait after at least half a dozen visit to provide my review for accuracy. . . I love this place! Food is consistently yummy. The service is good, great is hand and foot (lol), atmosphere is perfect, for a family night or dinner for two and even have a bar for solo's. Honestly, there isn't anything negative I see and I am a critic. Salud!

Google
It's the BOMB. The food is delicious, the service is excellent Nice and friendly atmosphere

Google
Food was edible. What was really off-putting was the striking smell of Fabuloso as soon as you walked in. The servers we nice. They had many large parties celebrating graduations, so I understand that they were busy.

Google
Food was good, just not very filling. My fish dinner was a bit small on the fish. Also soup was good but did t even come same time as my partner. So one side finished before my soup even showed up. Will return as food is flavorful and great tasting. 👍

Google
A great experience from start to finish. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine with outstanding service, this is the place to go. They start you off with some of the best chips and salsa around. The chips are perfectly crisp, and the salsa has a fresh, vibrant flavor. A word of warning, though: they're so good, you might have to pace yourself to save room for the main course! For my entrée, I ordered the carne asada, and it was a true highlight. The steak was incredibly juicy and packed with flavor, tasting as if it had been marinating overnight to achieve that perfect depth. It was served as a generous platter with perfectly cooked rice, flavorful refried beans, fresh guacamole, and even a grilled jalapeño, making for a truly satisfying and authentic meal. While I stuck with the carne asada, the other dishes at our table, like the albondigas soup and the enchilada platters, looked equally delicious. What really ties the whole experience together is the service. The wait staff at El Sombrero are top-notch—not just efficient, but genuinely and authentically friendly. Their positive attitude is infectious and is guaranteed to leave you in a good mood. Overall, El Sombrero delivers on all fronts: delicious food, generous portions, and wonderful service. I highly recommend it!

Google
Hubby and I are in town from Vegas and a family member suggested we meet at El Sombrero for dinner. Food was delicious and huge portions. Hubby ordered the mole and said it was the best he’s ever had! Great atmosphere. Good vibe here. Met Melody. Such a beautiful soul and great representative of the business. My bestie who lives local already has plans to return for taco Tuesday.

Yelp
The parking is quite ample, with an attentive security guard patrolling here and there. Inside, there's some space to wait and a few coin-operated toy capsule vending machines, which start your dinner experience with a bit of nostalgia. There is plenty of room to sit on either side of the restaurant, with some patio space as well. The bar is well-equipped with great draft beer specials. They even carry some hard-to-find Coke products like Strawberry Fanta or Cherry Coke. On the menu, you'll find your traditional favorites, from enchiladas all the way to hamburgers for those picky eaters in your party. The chips they bring out for the table are always fresh and perfectly salted, accompanied by two fresh, house-made salsas. My favorite dish on the menu is the Mom's Burrito. It is packed with tender pieces of shredded beef and loaded with guac and sour cream. I've had the pleasure of eating here several times and recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal. Compliments to the owners and all the amazing, hardworking staff.

Yelp
This place is a staple in the community. This restaurant flies under the radar but is always consistent in quality food, nice atmosphere and good service. We came today for the breakfast and it was great. The huevos ranchero with chili verde is amazing, 3 eggs over easy were perfect and the rice and beans just like Nana used to make. This place survived the pandemic and is family owned and run. Will come back again!

Yelp
We recently had brunch to celebrate a birthday and we were extremely happy with the personal care and attentive staff. We had 3 entrees, salad and two side dishes and a soft drink for $35 - $40 per person. There is a main dining room, a separate banquet room for large group gatherings. To the right of the entrance is a bar with TVs to watch sports. They are serve lunch and dinner in the bar. The decor and color scheme was very nice with murals, plants flowers, and art pieces throughout the restaurant. Please note there plenty of free parking in the shared lot. Bring your family and friends and don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya!

Yelp
My nephew's graduation from college banquet was held here. I know the prices are decent but again I was disappointed. She got the same thing I got when I had my parents anniversary here which was beef and chicken fajitas with rice and beans. The fajitas had very Minimal protein. There are so many vegetables and very little meat. Again, highly disappointed in that. The rice was a little bit hard and the beans were just OK. The banquet room was big enough to hold us all and the service was actually good, but I am disappointed in the food.

Yelp
Came after a long day at the dodger parade the service was good and the employee's are nice restaurant was inviting appetizer was good sized and tasted good. Would come back again. Parking is a little congested and limited.

Yelp
I am here in a weekly basis!! My family and I are addicted to their caldo de res and albondigas!! The food is delicious and fresh. This is definitely the place if you're craving a delicious bowl of caldo or Albondigas.

Yelp
One of those old "hot plate" restaurants where you can get a combo plate with rice and beans smothered in cheese. If that description appeals to you, then you'll most likely like it here. I wish there were more booths and the environment was a little darker to complete that old school vibe (like Casa Vega), but no complaints from me or the group I was there with. We purposely chose El Sombrero over the "healthier" or "fresher" options so the three stars reflects that. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was good. And the chips and salsa were replenished frequently.

Yelp
Love this restaurant Unfortunately this visit wasn't the best it was a Saturday afternoon and the service was horrible We waited over 15 min to be seated not because there was no seats but because no one was there to great us, finally someone noticed and sat us The bus boy is above and beyond Gave us chips and salsa and drinks right away So much so we had two refills and still no one to take our orders Finally we had to ask them for a waitress then someone came Food came out quickly and didn't see anyone again Food was good Service was just bad hopefully they hire more people

Yelp
Great food. Some of the best Mexican food in Walla Walla! Staff is friendly and very helpful. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Visited this morning for the first time with 23 of my closest friends. With such a big group you'd think the service would be lagging but NOPE!! The service was great. Our server Erica was attentive and for the first time ever brought me a "sample" of the menudo so I could decide if it was too spicy. That's A1 service. The gentleman who brought our drinks and kept the chips flowing (didn't catch his name) was never far behind. We all agreed the food was delicious as well. Please check this place out. I don't think you'll be disappointed

Yelp
We met up with my wife's family here for a mid week lunch date. Get the Molcajete! Huge rock bowl full of meat, chicken, vegetables, shrimp. Plenty for two people, plus leftovers for any meal at home. Seriously the whole menu is delicious. Spacious dining room for large family gatherings. Large bar area to catch all your favorite sports. Support our family owned businesses. See you there my friend!!

Yelp
One of my favorite breakfast spots on the weekend. Typo no wait and the chilaquiles are always good. Staff is friendly and very helpful.

Yelp
The food and especially the service was outstanding. Went here with 18 other people for a double birthday party. The food was delicious. Erica and the crew were awesome.

Yelp
I recently dined in here, I haven't been here for years!!! I used to come on taco Tuesday nights after work, which was an amazing deal!!!! I stopped by recently because I was craving a molcajete and my husband suggested this place and I was super excited to try it again! We were not disappointed with the molcajete at all, it was amazing!! The service was fast and the staff was very nice! Everything was clean and well kept, it was a very chill and relaxed Wednesday. We really enjoyed our dinner, can't wait to come back for football season !!!

Yelp
It's been a few years since I've been here, but happy i gave them a try. It's not my typical Mexican joint, as i prefer smaller mom and pop places, but we used to come here for work lunches and they cater to all tastes which is good. Bottom line, they have good food at decent prices. Was here again for lunch during a work day and have to say they were super fast with the food and love chips and salsa which were delivered as soon as we sat down. Big plus when you are in a hurry. They no longer have buffet lunches, which I preferred cause you got to try a little bit of everything, but served the purpose for todays work lunch. For for to take pictures of food, but I had the mom's burrito with carnitas and work mate had the carne asada plate. Both were items I would order again, but honestly his carne asada plate looked really good and probably what I will order next time :)

Russell M.

Yelp
The service was great despite having a long wait to order and I will definitely come back.

Yelp
This restaurant is the kind of place people have been coming to for years. The kind of place you bring your family to for celebrations because it won't break your budget. I love this place and I was introduced to it by another family who's been coming here for years. The food is well priced. Everything tasted great. It was so good that I kept eating long after I was already full. You get large portions and the environment is very family friendly. They also have a great sports bar area, outdoor dining are, and banquet room. Although the decor is a bit outdated, it's still a great casual place to bring you family and friends. They also have a sign that says "help needed" if anyone is looking for a job.

Yelp
Fantastic and Delicious!!! Friendly customer service!!! Very nice and clean restaurant. Menudo is served daily. Taco Tuesday was great! I enjoyed the hard shell chicken tacos. My husband enjoys the Shrimp cocktail he always asks for extra shrimp

Yelp
Love this place. My friends and I come here often. It's our go to place for birthdays, and just cause

Barbara C.

Yelp
We went for a quick bite hoping happy hour would be good. The waiter seemed put off by questions and us asking for clarification. The food was subpar. We both ordered margaritas. My friend could not stomach her drink but I finished mine thinking maybe it was just strong. Nope. It tasted like there was no alcohol and extremely sour. My friend forgot to ask to split the bill and they chided her as if she were a dimwit. It was offensive and I interjected she simply forgot. There's no reason to be so impatient. It was a very unpleasant visit.

Davina A.

Yelp
Let me just say you get what you pay for? Yea this place is affordable for events but the catering is awful. My daughter was going away to college so we had her a dinner.. they were so unattractive we had to ask for drinks for our guests multiple times they took plates from our guest when they weren't done eating ... they turned off the air conditioning on us an hour before we had to leave kicking out my guest so quick to collect money there was no bar tender attendant knowing they had a function... No apologies.... Never again
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Decent food and quick service. The cocido was a redish broth which I didn't expect. It was very tasty none the less and the beef was lean and tender. The chips were fresh and the salsas were excellent. Overall food and service is solid. This place has been a local fixture and when I worked in Rosemead this was one of the restaurants on my lunch circuit. The bar area is nice for lunch. Doesn't smell like a bar and I just love TouchTunes Jukebox. Today was an all 80's lunch all for me. Parking spaces seem small so you might want to park a bit towards the middle of the lot. Help a local business and support.

Renee F.

Yelp
Best authentic Mexican food around. Great service and fast service. They have a lot of spaces for private events too.
google avatar

Jimmy C.

Yelp
The chili relleno combination plate had generous portions and the price was reasonable! It's hard these days (after the pandemic and with high inflation) to find places that still give good portions for a decent price.
google avatar

Yelp
Long time local favorite Mexican food restaurant. I haven't had a chance to pay a patronage to this restaurant. Today we were invited to a friend's anniversary party here. The restaurant did a good job setting up everything for the party and provided good drinks including awesome margaritas for the party crowd. Everyone seemed to enjoy the drinks judging from the noise level of the party. The food was mediocre starting with the stale chips. I feel they should have at least make the chips crispy. Then we started the party with a Buffet. The buffet came with rice and refried beans as well as fajita with chickens and cheese enchiladas. I like the chicken fajitas which is one of my favorite Mexican food. They did a good job on this one with great flavors. The enchiladas was a bit disappointing. I felt there is not taste. Despite all the mediocre food, the service was great. We had a good time with our friends creating a fun memory for all of us. Thanks to our friends who invited us and others that we have not seen for long time to provide an opportunity for reunion.

Yelp
Our bowling group has been going after league and we really enjoy it there. We're able to fit our entire group together. We're always able to get seated all together. Parking is not an issue. Food and Service is always top rate. Our orders are always served right away. The señor that keeps things running smoothly with chips and salsa, water and drinks, he's always right there for us and I appreciate him so much he's a great asset to the server. He works so hard too. Our server, he is always so gracious and never far away should we need anything. I'm sorry I don't know your names but you both know who you are... Thank you for making our visits to your restaurant so incredible.

Elle G.

Yelp
I love this place. My favorite burrito ever is their Mom's burrito, shredded beef but all their food is delicious and has that authentic Mexican flavor.
google avatar

Diane H.

Yelp
Got this plate free for my birthday! You go into the restaurant, show them your ID,((the proof that it's your birthday)) and you get to pick any combo dinner 1- 25... I go every year!
google avatar

Lupe B.

Yelp
Second time coming here. Food is not authentic Mexican food. My chilli rellino was half a chili and not the full one. The nachos hardly had any meat. Like 1/2 a cup. Lots of sour cream and guacamole. Oh lots of chips. Both times service takes so long to come and see if we needed anything. The chips both times talked like they were sitting for a while. The second time they charged us double on an item, good thing we caught it and let them know so they did remove it.

Yelp
The last time I came here was in the 90s, so I knew it was time to come back and try it again. I'm all about supporting local businesses. Family-owned and operated by the 3rd generation granddaughter. This place is spacious, plus a banquet room to hold huge parties. Greeted and seated right away. Chips & salsa were tasty and not oily, which was nice. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. Recommended the red enchiladas were vegetarian friendly than the green ones, which I appreciate. Ordered: Red enchiladas with onions and cilantro plate Chile Relleno and cheese enchilada plate Chile Relleno and chicken taco plate The food was delicious and well seasoned. The best part was having a hot plate of food placed before you instead of lukewarm. This place will be in my rotation and my dad's to continue supporting local businesses.
google avatar

Rose R.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time for a party. They catered it in their banquet room and served everyone. The area was spacious. The service was excellent too. The bartender made amazing drinks. I can see why my friend has had many family parties here in the past. If in El Monte, definitely a great option.

Yelp
Oh brother... It's been years since I've walked in this restaurant. Well today being the 1 year anniversary of my moms passing, a group of family members got together to eat brunch. Several vote El Sombrero because it's so close to us. I bite my lip and agree. We walk into an empty restaurant with about 3 people in their large dining area and 4 in their separate bar area. We say to the man (with dark hair and dark beard) standing behind cashier table "Group of 15". He responds by telling us that any group over 6 can only have 3 checks. Really? In a world of Apple Pay, card etc?? My sister goes on to explain our celebration and asked if an exception could be made. The answer was a no. This EMPTY, SUBPAR FOOD, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE RESTAURANT continues to make us all wonder how much longer can you stay in business?

Yelp
I came here for a late lunch on a weekday afternoon. I had been wanting to dine here for the lunch buffet for what feels like eons now! Unfortunately, they are currently not offering the lunch buffet due to COVID, but they still do have a pretty solid menu. That being said, I really hope that one day they will bring back the lunch buffet! I go gaga for buffets! Inside/Outside: 3.5 out of 5 The restaurant is located inside a plaza, so there is a large parking lot shared with other businesses. I don't think there will ever be a time that parking will be difficult to find. The restaurant itself is huge, with multiple rooms (e.g., dining room, bar area), and even what appears like a banquet hall. The restaurant was pretty empty. We chose to dine in he bar area and they had fun music playing in the background. Food and Drinks: 4 out of 5 I got the shrimp salad with balsamic vinaigrette and the portion was huge! It came with lemon wedges; perfect to squeeze it on to the shrimp and salad. They was generous with the shrimp and avocado, which I truly appreciated. I also got a margarita and they did not skimp on the tequila. I could definitely taste the liquor. Service: 4 out of 5 When we arrived, the front was not staffed, so we had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. The remaining of the service while we dined was attentive and welcoming. The server periodically checked on us, which was really nice.

Yelp
Known this place since the early 90s. El Sombrero always have a great environment. Food and drinks are always top of the game . Staff is always friendly and EZ going.

Yelp
While visiting El Monte we decided on visiting El Sombrero. What a good idea it was. Authentic Mexican food and great drinks. I love that the table chips and salsa come with chunky salsa and regular salsa. Thank you Maddison for great service!

Leilani R.

Yelp
Food was good/decent. But terrible service. We were waiting for over an hour for our check and someone to check up on us at our table. Our waitress rarely stopped by at our table I felt like she was avoiding us. Overall I wouldn't go if you are in a hurry

Maria T.

Yelp
If I could give it zero stars I would . Service was awful , waited so long to get our drinks . My friend had an event for her daughter and was treated unfairly. Had the air conditioning turned off so the guest could get the hint to leave but they failed to up hold their contract . They had an hour left for their event and air conditioning and cleaning started an hour before the even was agreed upon . Very unprofessional and one of the waitress was being really rude . Never again anyone thinking hosting future parties don't !!!

Kelly B.

Yelp
My boyfriend took me to this spot that looked really delicious and it was! The portions were great! Nachos can feed 2 people. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to order because everything looked so good! I can't wait to go back & try different plates they offer. I appreciate the workers they are all so nice. They do get busy sometimes so always be patient but it was worth the wait.

Charlene G.

Yelp
First of all, I'd like to say," thank you to Erica. And her staff, I rented the banquet room to have a dinner for my brother last night 8/10/2025. The food was great, the service was awesome, the bathrooms were cleansed and smelled good all paper towels were filled we did not have to ask them. Erica, handled all of us in that room very well as she served. The workers at the end were very great full as we helped pick up & not that we needed to but, I am sure they all wanted to get home to their family as well. Do I recommend this place.? Yes Thank you El Sombrero

Yelp
First time for me @ this Restaurant & my boyfriend been here few times we had great service & food was good & prices were decent.

Yelp
This place has been a favorite for decades! I've been to parties here. I've been here for Mothers Day brunch. We stop in to watch sports and have a few drinks. There's rarely a wait. The restaurant is big with plenty of seating. The food is always hot and tasty. Check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
16 years ago my husband proposed to me at this very restaurant so this place holds a special place in my heart just for that. Today was the first time we have returned since that day so we didn't have much of a recollection about the food itself. I had the Chile verde plate and my husband the beef enchiladas. We also ordered the guacamole. Everything was good. Not absolutely fantastic best food we'd ever had good, but decent good. The service was exceptional and the speed of service was as well.
google avatar

Leanne V.

Yelp
I hadn't been here in over a year and during lunch hour my coworker and I stopped here for some warm soup on a rainy day. I ordered the Albondigas soup, and she ordered the Cocido soup. Sadly we were both disappointed in the lack of flavor of both soups. The broth was very bland and seemed to be the same broth for both soups. The side of rice that comes with the Albondigas was very bland. I'm not sure what's happened to this place, we used to love the authentic flavors from this place before. So sad I won't be returning.
google avatar

Mario U.

Yelp
I came here recently for lunch with my buddy. The parking lot looked very familiar, and the facade looks like a hacienda or rancho from the Mexican Revolution era. Maybe it was the heat, but I expected to see a few horses tied to a post, drinking water from a well but the closest thing to a horse was an older Mustang parked in front. I left my "sombrero" in my car and walked in. The large wooden doors, wooden furniture, and floor tile confirmed you time-traveled to Mexico. Don't get me wrong, this was a cool thing and I enjoyed it. My friend and I took our seats, and I ordered a Modelo beer on draft and a Cocido plate. I remembered that my friend and I had previously visited El Sombrero about 20 years ago and attended some fun events here---so this recent visit was a reunion of sorts. The place is very spacious, the ambiance is nice and it's still a great place to meet for food and drinks. The chips and salsa were served quickly, and they tasted great. My cocido was served with a traditional side cup of rice and corn tortillas. The cocido broth was served medium hot, flavorful, and there were a lot of beef chunks and vegetables to enjoy slowly with my cold beer. My friend and I reminisced about some work fundraising events held here years ago and it was nostalgic to revisit El Sombrero. The customer service was great and friendly. Plenty of free parking in front and all around.
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
I came here for lunch and tried the buffet out. There were fruit, salsa, ceviche, tostada and more for dessert. For the main dishes there was menudo, enchilada, tripe, rice, fajita meat, beans and a lot more. A couple of their dishes were spicy, but thankfully on a good spice level. There are also chips on the side of the buffet. Also, if you ask them they can give you tortillas as well. The buffet itself wasn't bad, but price is reasonable. Staff was very friendly and want you to be welcomed in the restaurant.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
Portions for food are HUGE! I ordered the special quesadilla with shredded chicken, and it came with guac and sour cream on the side. The quesadilla was delicious, especially with the guac I didn't finish because there was so much food! I think the order is enough to feed two people (unless you're really really hungry). We had to get 3 boxes because none of us finished! Staff sanitized the menus and table before we sat down, and there was a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table. Everyone was really nice, and it was easy to find someone to ask for extra napkins, more water, etc. Parking is easy to find because El Sombrero is located in a plaza with a ton of parking!

Daniel V.

Yelp
The Tacos Here are not really that Good...I ordered a 2 chicken tacos And was disappointed the Girl Behind Me asked me if I wanted Pico de Gallo I asked if it was hot or mild She said it's not that hot... I took one bite and my Mouth was on Fire...Obviously This employee has No idea of what Pico de Gallo tastes like I couldn't eat the tacos because they were to spicy there was Hardly any Chicken. What a Waste of Money Never going back There... The atmosphere was family Friendly The Prices you pay are not Worth it The Food is Not That Good This Restaurant Serves Mainly Shrimp Not Much on The Menu other Then Shrimp to Choose From ...Very Few Options To Choose From...

Yelp
Hadn't been here since late 90's early 2000s and the food is just as good as I remember!! The food is so authentic, great taste and good portion sizes on the plates. Chips and salsa are great and the salsa has great flavor, although not too spicy. The chips taste good and are not greasy. The service is good as well, even for being short staffed they are on top of it and check back regularly for refills or if you need anything else. We will definitely be coming back more often even if it is a 20-30 min drive, it's well worth it when craving delicious, authentic Mexican food! Highly recommend this place!

Javier B.

Yelp
My favorite Mexican restaurant for the past 30 plus years! Great food and great service!
