At first, it seemed strange to find a Middle-Eastern restaurant in a Mexican beach town although after a few minutes consideration, other than the language, the weather and topography are similar to Haifa or Alexandria. The surprise was that the hummus, falafel, and tabbouleh were as good as the best I've had in either of those cities and the Arab flat bread was better. Unlike most Israeli falafel restaurants, El Sultan's bread was fresh from the oven. Apparently, the locals agree. There are two El Sultan's in town. One is in the Rinconada district, near Carrizalillo beach. It is the ideal place to meet friends for a chat and snack. The other is on Zicatela beach looking directly out at the glistening water beyond the sand and coconut palms. Hopefully, I'll not read this review when I'm back in the Pennsylvania winter. It would bring tears to my eyes.
