"A former swap meet stand, chef Juan Almanza signed the lease to open his restaurant mere weeks before the pandemic. Regardless, the spot is now thriving with regulars enjoying slow-grilled costillas and crunchy tacos of tender tripas. The trendy quesabirrias have also become a popular must-have." - Jackie Tran

Honestly, the food was really good. It has the authentic homemade flavors. I'm not sure if I would eat here again only because the place is very rundown and in need of a deep cleaning or remodel. Not sure why owner hasn't done this but it doesn't leave a good impression. It makes me feel like the kitchen isn't clean.

Been here a few times and great food, tried the ribeye steak tacos, Al Pastor quesadilla & sopas all were so delicious! Definitely gonna try the burrito next time. Highly recommend.

I apologize in advance to the Yelp community for this ‘cut in half’ chorizo burrito photo (almost as bad as clowns who upload devoured plates, claiming “it was that good”). Bottom line: My first sampling of El Rustico, Chef Almanza has set the bar high! Will definitely be back. This Chorizo burrito was next level. My one criticism is a 3.9% pass thru for credit cards…I get it, everyone is doing it – I still do not like it or approve. No impact to 5-star score obviously. See you soon El Rustico!

I don’t know if I just got unlucky, but the meat was so bland and dry that I couldn’t eat the tacos. Had to throw it all out. Got the food to-go so wasn’t able to discuss the poor food quality with the workers as I wasn’t willing to drive back after getting home. I hope others have had a better experience but I feel like I owe it to document my experience.

Best quesabirrias I've ever had, and a spectacular sunset was the cherry on top of a great night. Stopped in for Sonoran restaurant week, and this place exceeded my expectations. While the place is small and unassuming, the flavor here is anything but. Staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions. The food was drool-worthy... the consomme had a sweet spiciness to it that was really unique, and the Spanish rice was also delicious and had a great almost smoky flavor. We also tried some pollo asado sopes and they were amazing! The meat was really tender, just the right amount of salty and citrusy, and the sopes tasted really fresh. The avocado salsa they give you is a perfect addition. Don't forget to get a lemonaica aguas frescas, and some dessert! The menu is large and easy to customize what you want. We'll be back!

I wanted to treat some friends visiting Tucson to some yummy tacos and El Rústico was recommended so we gave it a try… a new favorite that is worth the drive for me from oro valley! Jasmine who took our order was super sweet and when I had a question on what something was on the menu, the chef popped out abd walked me through the menu! I got 5 tacos: tripas- little fried heaven that I topped with the green sauce (maybe some kind of avocado sauce?). Birria, queso birria, carne asada and goat (so yummy!!). I was stuffed but wanting more! My friends got a queso shrimp taco, Camarillo quesadilla, and the guacamole 🥑 They proclaimed some of the best Mexican food! And I couldn’t agree more!! Will be going back and bringing more people!! 🤤

Just a solid experience. Food is excellent, service is friendly and prompt, and it feels very cozy inside. The flavours are great, it's hot and fresh, and is very fairly priced. Portion sizes are healthy, and I left feeling pleasantly full after having the Especial Rustica. Would happily come again.
