Orlando’s Best Taco Restaurants | Eater Miami

"The festive Kissimmee cantina has been a longtime favorite for its pleasing aesthetics and enormous menu of homegrown Mexican fare, but the $1.75 tacos can’t be beat. Achiote-rubbed al pastor on double tortillas have cemented El Tenampa with mainstay status, but buche and cueritos are also offered for those who prefer a little bite to their porcine folds. The market next door tends to all tienda needs." - Faiyaz Kara

The only reason for the 4 star rating is due to the wait time for the food. There were so many options to choose from but since we dine at Mexican restaurants often, we already knew what to order. The birria and shrimp tacos are usually good and most of the tacos start at $2.50 each. We also came around 9 pm which was a very busy time…. But if you’re visiting the Kissimmee area, this restaurant does not disappoint when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine. 😀

Google
Always a great experience. Never a disappointment. We are from out of state. 1st time we came was 4yrs ago when we visited Florida. Returned back and came back to visit. Already came twice this week. Great service and atmosphere.

Google
Friendly authentic Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed our meals, lots of food for the money. Everything was nice and hot except the beans I’ll be sure to ask for those to be hotter next time. Complimentary chips and salsa (up to two servings).

Google
Food does taste decent , I ordered a steak torta the steak was seasoned pretty good but when it came to the bread had no butter tasted old and the lettuce wasn’t even chopped seems likes they just tore pieces with there hands and put it in the torta. Agua Frescas are alright nothing special about it. The inside is pretty dark the tables do look nice .The employees tho… 😬 someone putting in the chips was using a large trash can to pour the chips into a chip warmer I guess .And to pat it down he used his hands with no GLOVES ! Very important detail I did see if you go with a party of 6 the gratuity its already included. Our waitress Michelle we had at the time did not come to see if we needed more drinks or napkins. But I did watch her go to another table of 3 people 5 times to see if they needed anything else.So that means since they know they already getting a tip with a party of 6 they don’t pay mind to your table as much. It was only till when we were actually leaving she said if we needed anything else 😂 oh and the men’s toilet seat is being held by once bolt.

Google
Great Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. A great spot to enjoy authentic Mexican flavors without overspending.

Google
We really enjoyed the food here. The portions were generous and it is reasonably priced. Everything tastes fresh. Loved the horchata! Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because our waitress wasn't very attentive. She wasn't rude or anything, we just had to wait ages after our mains before she checked if we wanted or needed anything else. But we would go back again

Google
Amazing food!! Service could be better as our drinks were never filled, BUT no matter the food , it was worth it. We dinned here 3 times on our 10-day trip to Orlando

Donna Smith

Google
Not bad for the price. It gets crowded on the weekends. The food is good and loved the queso. The guacamole was too creamy and I would not order it again. But overall good place to eat.

Yelp
A few weeks back we drove here at the recommendation of an acquaintance, after having a hankering for some Mexican food. We are so glad we did! When there is a wait and the place is packed with Hispanics you know the place is going to be good. It was mid-day, so the lunch crowd was thick. We had to wait about 25 minutes for a seat (was a booth for 2). It was worth the wait! Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, with just a small language barrier. We ended up ordering too much food, as it all looked and sounded good. We ordered a sampler plate from the appetizer menu, which contained 3 different items - all of which were very tasty. I ordered a carnitas burrito and lengua (tongue) taco. Both were large and tasted great, with the lengua soft and plentiful. The carnitas burrito had moist flavorful pork, but also contained some rice and beans. I am not a fan of rice and beans added to a specific type burrito (like carnitas), but it really did not detract from the overall taste. Not sure (can't remember) what the wife ordered, but it looked great (see photo) and she really (REALLY) liked it. The restaurant ambience was great visually, but the place was semi-loud due to it being packed. If in the area we will return when we get that hankering for good Mexican food. Not sure what State in Mexico the owner(s)/chef hails from, so can't help anyone out there.

Yelp
I was craving Mexican food. I went to a local drive thru, and it was closed. It worked out in my favor because I had to find somewhere else to go. My daughter came across El Tenampa and suggested it. We decided to go there. When you pull up, it's a grocery store on one side of the building, and the restaurant is on the other side of the building. Don't let that fool you. Go inside!!! I didn't know what to order. I asked my server what he recommended. He suggested one of the burritos. I thought the red sauce would be too spicy. I was weary because I don't like spicy food. He said it wasn't. I decided to go with his suggestion. Let me tell you.. It has rice, beans, and corn inside. I added grill chicken inside. It was the best burrito I've ever eaten. Also, a mariachi band played. I love live music. I'm glad that I discovered the restaurant. I will be back. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Amazing! Picked a place close to our house that had good reviews and it did not disappoint! Husband got a steak wet burrito and I got the shrimp wet burrito. Everything was out of this world. The chips and salsa were one of my favorites and our waitress offered to try the homemade hot salsa, green and red. The red was spicy with a great flavor. The place was set up perfectly to hold lots of people. The service was fast and friendly. Our waitress had lots of recommendations and provided excellent service.

Yelp
After visiting several local restaurants in Irlo Bronson HWY and leaving, arriving to El Tenampa was very refreshing. They sat us immediately, friendly caring service. The Pozole was good and the Carnitas delicious and huge amount. The Tenampa appetizer can feed several, plus is delicious. We also had the Flight of 5 Margaritas which is an amazing value. Mari took good care of us; very efficient and caring. We will be back for Menudo in the weekend. Thanks!

Yelp
This is a fake Mexican restaurant I will say. You can tell the authentic one is from their salsa and chips, salsa is straight out of the can. This definitely caters for non-Mexican people. They were busy so we checked it out, will never come back for sure. I will check other Mexican restaurants around. Also, the service is very very slow!!! Took almost an hour to get our food.

Yelp
I flew into Florida on Cinco De Mayo and my best friend found this place for us to enjoy the night. It was such a wonderful restaurant with awesome service. Plenty of great food and drink options. The ambiance was very warm and inviting. I had their Tamarind margarita and it was so big! I also had their fried ice cream. Everything was super delicious. I would definitely go again whenever I am in the area.

Mabel R.

Yelp
Came on a Tuesday after a recommendation, however , place was very empty which immediately gave me the sense not to stay. Always follow your instincts. The salsa watery and with no taste. The chips had a taste of old lard. The tacos and fajitas had a meat not sure what it was and awful. Definitely do not recommend.
google avatar

Anna D.

Yelp
This place has been here for years. This was my first time visiting after a friend recommended it and I will definitely return. The fajitas for two can feed four. There was an ample mix of shrimp steak and chicken. The service was great, friendly and very attentive. The ambiance was shocking, it was beautiful not what I expected in a strip plaza. This place is a great spot for authentic Mexican cuisine.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Great service and great food! I got a spicy margarita with jalapeño tequila (el Rey picante) it was so good!!! Would definitely highly recommend! There's a mariachi band on Tuesdays and Sundays.

Torrey M.

Yelp
My company travels to this area a few months a year to work for Toho water authority and I think I eat here at least once every time I come down this place slaps
google avatar

Victor B.

Yelp
We came back, that time for dinner on Sunday. Restaurant was kind of full, unfortunately this time the service was REALLY, REALLY SLOW. They do have complementary chips, but doesn't taste much. They have a lot of juices, but just to let u know, they are so so sweet, I wish I could taste more the fruit and less sugar. Food was OK, we ordered the meat table for 4 + 1 plate for 2. Was enough and we took almost half home. Had fish, shrimp, pork, pulled pork, chicken with ham and cheese, tortilla handmade I don't think we will go back again, but if you never been, should try at least one time. Maybe we didn't have good experience both times we've been there, but as it's always full I recommend once

Yelp
Great food, huge portions! The strawberry margarita was amazing too. Our service was fast and efficient. This is true mexi food!
google avatar

Andreina R.

Yelp
We went for the first time and it was great. It was like a little Mexican corner. The food was fantastic, and the service was super friendly. We ordered margaritas, a burrito, tacos, fajitas, and a michelada, and everything was delicious. We would not order the strawberry margarita with the paleta again because the paleta was very plain, but the rest of the food and drinks were delicious.

William P.

Yelp
The service is slowe it took us half hour for us to get are food it need to be improved the food is good it could be better
google avatar

Patricia J.

Yelp
Thank you Yelp for guiding us here! Vacationing from New Orleans, we were looking for good Mexican food and this one met all of our needs!! Staff was friendly and service was quick. Food was above and beyond what we were expecting and the portions were huge! Restaurant was comfortable and clean. Would definitely come back if our travels bring us this way again!
google avatar

Mariah M.

Yelp
Food was plentiful! Wow so much and could've easily split with someone else. Pretty authentic and great server. I'm picky about 5/5 stars for Mexican food. So this place is a great spot if you are in the area.
google avatar

Francisco R.

Yelp
The best Mexican food I've ever had (even taking into account places I've been to at Mexico). This nice place has the ambiance of a genuine Mexican establishment (even hosting mariachi bands). The service is efficient, never had to wait long for food or even a table. The pricing for the value is very good especially when comparing it to other Mexican/Tex Mex options. The market next door also adds a genuine element. This is my go to place for Mexican food whenever I'm in the mood.
google avatar

Brenda R.

Yelp
It's been a while since we last stopped by at tenampa, boy the food is still delicious and packed with people. The food arrived in less then 15 minutes, pipping hot and well seasoned. This is a must go place for locals and visitors.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
I continually have amazing experiences here and highly recommend. This time I tried the steak and YUM! So worth it. This is the first time I've seen the Mariachis back since the shutdown, it was such a treat when they sang to our table. Looking forward to my next visit!
google avatar

Tharin W.

Yelp
Family owned, fantastic food and fair portions! This location was recommended to me by a fellow Yelper, WrightDownMainStreet and my friend Dominic, and they were RIGHT! The agua frescas are divine and I usually order at least 2 per visit.
google avatar

Ivelisse R.

Yelp
Fresh and tasty food. Generous portions at reasonable prices. Attentive staff. Ordered chicken and steak mixed fajitas for 2 and a guacamole. Me and my husband ate plenty and still had leftovers to bring home. Dining area inside is ample and noise level was normal for a late lunch crowd. It was our first time eating at this restaurant and we plan on going back.
google avatar

Maribel M.

Yelp
Service was prompt and attentive. Ambience was family oriented not music at the time of our visit.. Now food large portions, very flavorful, good combinations.. margaritas were good... were served water we had to return as it tasted like it had just come out of tap.. other than that highly recommend... will definitely go back
google avatar

Yelp
This Mexican restaurant is one of my favorites. Since you enter, you can experience the Mexican atmosphere from the flag to the authentic "aguas Fresca" displayed in the counter, and the smell of the great food being cooked! I also love that the menu is pretty wide and he has many items that I'm not common in Tex-Mex restaurants (because this is very authentic), dishes like chilaquiles, tamales, pozole and ingredients like cactus. I really felt great and enjoy this experience. Also the service was really awesome. We had a very nice server, but also other servers coming up to us to check in on us. And not to mention the Mexican mariachi band. That was singing to different tables (this was like around 7pm) i loved it! Viva mexico!!
google avatar

Idaysy B.

Yelp
Personally a big fan of their mixed fajitas BUT I have been craving tacos so I got a mixed tacos (of each meat) was very delicious! Fairly priced for the amount you receive, the horchata is definitely a MUST. if you are looking for more of a cocktail then their margaritas are very filling! They have great deals of course on Tuesdays for taco Tuesday! The parking lot gets pretty packed but they make it work! Right next door they sell concha's which are a Mexican bread that is famous for having with dense chocolate. The only thing I would say is that the tacos are a smaller portion compared to the other plates! Super Mexican and decked out decorations with mariachis in the weekend. The service is good. But great quick Mexican spot!
google avatar

Yelp
The best Mexican food in Kissimmee! We have been going here for many years. The food is fantastic. The drinks are even better! Get there early, it really fills up. Small but the best. Fajitas were huge, the mole sauce on my enchilada was great. Never a bad meal! Last night they had a Mariachi Band strolling through the tables. Can't say enough about this place.
google avatar

Patrick W.

Yelp
Amazing steak burrito with so much flavor. In my top 5 burritos I've ever ate and their salsa had so much flavor as well. There hot sauce was head sweating good. Great service and clean place. Well done, keep it up!!!

Yelp
Best local Mexican restaurant in the area! Get the birriadillas, queso & a fresh lemonade

Yelp
Looking for some tacos, we stopped at this little gem! It's right next to a market in a small little shopping center. When you walk in, the place just feels authentic. They have beautiful decorations and nice chairs and tables. We were quickly greeted at the entrance and sat in a booth. The waiter came over and took our drink orders. They have lots aguas frescas to choose from as well as sodas and alcoholic beverages. (Complimentary chips and salsa for the table) The menu is amazingly huge! And all the food looks so freaking delicious. It's hard to choose only one thing. I did go for tacos, cause thats what I was craving. THEY ARE SO DELICIOUS!! I got asada, carnitas, birria, and chorizo tacos. Each one of them was packed with meat and the meat was so flavorful. I think my favorites were the asada and the chorizo. Absolutely superb. And the best part? Each taco is $2.50! You can't beat that. Living in Miami where we pay $20 for 3 tacos??? This is a steal! Great prices and great people and great food!! Can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Alaina C.

Yelp
It took us about 15 min to be greeted however once we received service it was phenomenal. Food was amazing and I would say reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and their sangrias were one of the best I've had.
google avatar

Dee B.

Yelp
The organization was so weird....we waited forever, and it wasn't busy, and there was an abundance of people. Food came out in a timely manner just the front of the house was sketch. Nice vibe if the servers didn't act rude and not personable. Food was hot and miss. Prices are OK. Only giving a 3 because of the servers.
google avatar

John Luke E.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while at Disney. The restaurant may be smaller, but the food was phenomenal. Authentic flavor filled Mexican food. Margaritas were mixed perfectly. Our waiter was extremely kind. Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Adonis S.

Yelp
This is the perfect example of a home in a wall. Delicious comfort ford on a budget. First they gave us the complementary chips and salsa which is always a nice touch. We ended up getting the orange soda which is so good and ordered tacos for 2.50 each. They were pretty hefty. The rice and refried beans had excellent flavor. Just make sure you make space for dessert. We tried the carnitas, al pastor and chorizo tacos. Delicious. 3 per person will fill you up. Will definitely be coming back. Waitress was super nice and the food got there pretty quick considering the amount of people.
google avatar

Candice B.

Yelp
We loved it! The food was delicious! They were crowded on a Tuesday which is always a good sign! Service was fast and friendly, and the restaurant was lively, with quite a few people celebrating birthdays, complete with birthday cakes, so they planned to come there, which is another great sign!!! My left overs were even good!! We definitely will be back! We tried to go back a few nights later, but we didn't want to look desperate.!

Rachel Macie H.

Yelp
Now that was an interesting experience that made me wish I would have spent my time and my money at a different restaurant. So when we arrived we were seated right away at a table that had a speaker right above it blaring music, like I'm all for loud music I mean come on I listen to punk rock and EDM but a speaker right above my head playing music loud enough that I have to try to talk over it to my friend who's on the other side of the table makes for a problem. We were at our table for almost 15 minutes before someone came by to ask what we were eating not even ask for our drink order but for what we were eating by this time my friend had still been looking at what she wanted so we asked for another minute and it seemed like our server was bothered by that as his energy which was slightly negative just got worse at this point. So a few minutes later someone else brought our drinks by and it would be about another 10 minutes before our server would come back to ask for our order pretty much prolonging it for some reason as they weren't even that busy! So after a decent amount of time our food came out and although it was good I'd say it was about average as I've had some better Mexican food at home and at some other places in the area although don't get me wrong it was good but my consome was just a bit too salty for me. So of the options I totally went with the birriadillias and let me say they were yummy but definitely not a huge flavorful experience like I've had before at other places, even though dipping in the consome helped it really didn't drive the flavor up all that much. Had our server actually came back to refill our drinks I might have enjoyed my meal more as he didn't once come by to check on us until we had been finished with our food for a good few minutes I mean at that point what good does it do as we were just pretty much waiting for the check so we could leave as this whole situation was just like ehhh. Overall they did give us chips and salsa while it was ok our experience just didn't us wanna come back as our service was terrible and for me to say that says a lot as I've worked in the service industry for most of my life. So our food was decent but it definitely wasn't enough for me to wanna come back here again as there are just soo many spots in the area that I would just rather try so do yourself a favor and do the same!
google avatar

Seniorita D.

Yelp
Small unpretentious authentic Mexican restaurant. Food was good, prices were great and service was fast and friendly. They had a mariachi taking requests which was nice. Not glamorous but very yummy
google avatar

Barbara T.

Yelp
Great service. The staff was helpful and could accommodate our special requests! We enjoyed a fajita salad
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to El Tenampa multiple times and it is yet to disappoint. This place is Authentic, cozy and delicious!! You can't go wrong with anything you order. The wet burritos are packed full of savoury meat, creamy beans, and tastey rice. The tacos are always full of seasoning and the birria tacos...omg!! Meat is so tender, the broth not to salty but bursting with robust flavor. This is a must try when in Kissimmee!! You can watch a shrot review: https://youtu.be/QckEtlBFy58?si=9D0pk3rA1YljY8aR
google avatar

Jerry B.

Yelp
When I come down to Kissimmee I always come in at least once. Great food. Good prices and the service is always great. I love the steak fajitas. Definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Jesy T.

Yelp
First off I'd like to shout out the server tonight, she was so friendly and attentive! Finally got around to coming here after hearing so much about it! Love that you get complimentary chips and salsa, always a plus! I ordered the margarita flights, which were way bigger than how small our server suggested; it comes with 5 picked out flavors which included tamarind, strawberry, blue Hawaiian, and I believe guava/regular (I wasn't too sure about 2 of them), super yummy with a Tajin rim! Also a steal for the price, 5 flights for $25! For my tacos I ordered Al pastor and chorizo; all tacos came with 2 tortilla (some 3) and were priced at $2.50. I'm normally an al pastor taco girl, but the chorizo here was my favorite tonight! The chorizo was less dry than the Al pastor and packed with flavor. You can also request the green and red spicy sauces for a little extra kick! Overall, a small little restaurant with plenty of delicious options! I noticed they have birria tacos and a variety of agua frescas; I'll definitely have to come back to try more!
google avatar

Lawrence J.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican small cozy restaurant. Mexican aviance. Food and margaritas were good. Service was prompt and friendly.Prices were reasonable. Everything was good but it did not WOW.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Great place for a stop in. Had some great tacos, some pretty spicy sauce and great pastor, steak, chorizo, and chicken tacos ! Margaritas we're pretty good as well! Very unique and different to the typical Mexican restaurants I'm used to, but overall great experience and time spent.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Great street tacos. The menu was large. I need to come back and try other items. The flavors textures and overall taste was fairly authentic Mexican cuisine.

Luis P.

Yelp
When you read the menu... the basics are: Spanish first then English (yellow) so I ordered it in English... well if you order in English you get a made up plate. Example everyone that ordered what you see here as "El Tenampa Steak" you do not get cactus and green onion, you get mushrooms (an allergen) and cheese (an allergen). You can't just add undisclosed allergens to a plate and then insult my intelligence saying that Arrachera El Tenampa is a completely different plate than the El Tenampa Steak... unless you clearly don't know anything about translation. Definitively the last time... I recommend you save yourself the inconvenience and skip this place.
google avatar

Loretta N.

Yelp
Lunch today at El Tenampa Mexican Restaurant was great. I had the chicken chimichanga and my husband had the House Chicken. Both entrees were great and the portions were huge. Service was excellent and friendly. The restaurant had great seating that was spaced out nicely. Really delicious lunch!
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
Great food at a reasonable price. I believe that this is a the place that the locals go to. We had the Wet Burrito and an appetizer of guacamole. It was really good and not too spicy. The service was quick. If you want good Mexican Food at a reasonable price this is the place for you.
google avatar

M R.

Yelp
This is our goto Mexican restaurant whenever we're in Lake Buena Vista area. Bring an appetite bc the servings are big, authentic, and sumptuous. We discovered this in 2021, and have dinned here on 3 occasions . We love the food and prices are reasonable. Service is great, hostesses are welcoming, ambiance is family oriented. There's a Mariachi band on special days (perhaps weekend) so call ahead. Gets really busy Friday and Saturday night. Worth the wait
google avatar

Kristen J.

Yelp
The staff was superb! We traveled with picky children and the made "plain" tacos . I recommend the Frescas - pineapple was amazing. The food was good with very large portions. We would come back on our next visit to the area .
google avatar

Kaylynn A.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant to go to when I'm craving Mexican. They offer the best tacos , the staff is great. This place can get super busy but they always accommodate super quick and the food never takes long to be brought out. I've been going to this place for about 10 years now and will continue. Great atmosphere and love the location since they remodeled a bit.
google avatar

Najwa G.

Yelp
El Tenampa had some great food at solid prices and gigantic portions. I ordered the wet burrito and my friends ordered the enchiladas and seafood tostadas respectively. Everything was tasty and fresh. The horchata complemented the meal well too but was a bit too sweet for my liking (and trust me I love my sweets).
