How Are Chicagoans Reacting to the Restaurant Vaccination Mandate? | Eater Chicago

"A Pilsen liquor store and bar where enforcement of the city's vaccine mandate led to a violent confrontation: after a party was turned away because one member was unvaccinated, the group returned, shattered the front-door glass and threatened the manager with a knife. The manager was shaken but unharmed and expressed frustration that staff are being placed on the front line to check vaccine cards, saying the policy has put workers in danger." - Aimee Levitt

Back bar is usually for older men but it's a chill vibe and good hiding spot. Service is good, basic options.

Google
Doesn't keep two its store hours.

Google
4 stars for package license that lets them stay open late. Drop to 3 stars for high prices, even by "convenience" standards. Relatively limited selection, as you would expect. So, not *bed*, but not *good*. The bar in back is really small, filled with locals late, but perfectly serviceable.

Google
Now if you want a dive bar feel with your old school people from the neighborhood then this is it . This is the type of bar my dad would’ve gone to back in the day . It has an old school juke box that plays classics like Jose Jose , Juan Gabriel , Joan Sebastian etc ., I mean it can’t get any better than that , but for the population that wants more recent music , there’s a touch tune juke box . Bring your dollars ! Always have a great time there . Staff is great!

Yelp
Owner steals from the customers. Beware when paying. I stopped in to buy a coke and was charged 42 dollars. Police had to be contacted regarding the event and wasn't until then that owner agreed to refund.

Yelp
Liquor store stays open late with the bar sort of hidden in the back. Small bar and tables/seating in back, prefers cash but accepts card if you pay up front. Bartender was friendly and drinks were good. Great place to stop in for a quick drink or snacks on a night out.

Yelp
El Trébol Liquors & Bar is one of Chicago's awesome and old-school half bar/half liquor store setups. Unlike some of the other slashies I've been to where the areas are mixed, this one is a liquor store up front with the bar sort of hidden/tucked in the back. If you stopped in for a six-pack you'd miss the fact that it was a bar (hold for the sounds of music and people having a good time coming from out of nowhere). Once you enter the bar area, you can try to find a seat at the bar or at a table but you'll order at the bar either way. This is in Pilsen, so the primary language spoken is Spanish but the bartender was bilingual. Trébol is located in Pilsen along one of the main east/west streets that create and pass through the commercial area of the neighborhood. Two tips: First, the men's bathroom door doesn't lock, so be forewarned! Second, cash is preferred if you've got it, but if you don't, you can pay with a card up front in the liquor store area.

Yelp
In the back of the liquor store is a great, no nonsense, old-school bar. Nothing fancy going on here - No disco music, no bullshit, only cold beers and cheap booze

Yelp
Just a reliable neighborhood liquor store but the staff are very friendly and incredibly patient with near sighted folks like me trying to find out what bourbons are behind their cash counter.

Yelp
A pillar of the community. They open early and close late. Friendly staff. The store is not that expensive and the bar is cheaper. They speak English but if you're too lazy to try ordering Spanish than fuck off.

Yelp
El Trebol, you and I have a love hate relationship. Like most people, I come here only when I'm desperate to get my booze on, and everything else is closed, and generally pay for it with lack of selection and high prices. The guy behind the counter is friendly, though sometimes I feel that he's silently judging me as I scurry away with my brown paper bag of booze. Get to know the clientele because you'll probably be telling them your darkest secrets at your first AA meeting. Cash only, but they have an ATM

Yelp

Yelp
I stumbled in here after drinking Whisky and Old Style beer with a gang of labor nerds all night long, and none of us wanting to go home just yet but didn't feel like finding another gentrified hipster bar in the Pilsen district. We came across this liquor store, where if you walk into the back, you'll see a bar area with barely 30 bottles of liquor where I paid $3.50 for my Jack Daniels. Mexican dudes then came thru with some brand new sneaks trying to hustle some money. Grimy warehouse liquor store. Pretty sweet.

Yelp
If you're a gringo and you find yourself here it means either 1.) It's late, Amador Liquor is closed, and you need an over priced twelve pack of Corona. Or, 2.) you're dangerously lost. The good news is that the place is setup as such that you can set in, buy your booze and get out quick. The bar is around the corner which acts as a firewall between tourists and the hard core lifers. On top of that, the guy behind the counter is friendly and seems to "get it" that some people just want to step in, buy their beer, and get out fast. Gritty, sorta scary to the uninitiated and non-Latino, but I'm glad it's there.

Yelp
CASH ONLY! Great little find close to Halsted's many BYOBs. Yes, it is in Pilsen and primarily Spanish speaking, but if you want some cold beer or Tequila, this is a good a spot as any. Again, CASH only, but they have an ATM available for the regular fees... Holding onto the fifth star until I try Armands down the street.

Yelp
white peeps do not seem to know what goes on in el Trebol, based on the reviews below, good cause we don't want them to know, keep paying for the over priced alcohol and be on your way

Andrew F.

Yelp
Mediocre selection and prices, but open late and very professional service. The drunk people alternatively sitting in the sawdust and fighting is a must see for your out of town friends.

Maritza V.

Yelp
Open late but very over priced. Only come here if you really have to. Paid $20 for a 12 pack of blue moon.

Gringo J.

Yelp
I don't like people staring me down when I buy my liquor, but as I've said before, there's nothing that a person in this place can say to me to make me back down. After all, I actually vote, pay taxes and the like. The people who own the joint are actually quite friendly. Just get the f-cking yokels out of the liquor store so I don't have to go all psycho and rip their sh-t up.
