Ouch. Poor El Viajero, poor poor El Viajero. One day I passed by the neighborhood and wanted a beer so I went inside to check it out. I loved the roof top and had since been dreaming of taking my girlfriend (we're crazy about roof top places!!) there for a snack, a lunch or just a drink. Looking at the menu I said "meh" but still thought it'd be a nice experience, especially for the beautiful view of La Almudena and the neighboring buildings.
Anywho, we went back just the other day and it was packed to say the least. That's fine, we're not snobs, we don't mind sitting next to other people. You never know who you might run into. Waitress came over and was honestly kind of rude. She wouldn't let us see the menu before we ordered drinks. Like, what? We'd already sat down and told her that we were going to eat. But anyway, we followed the game and ordered our drinks. They came rapidly, no problem.
We ordered the two things my girlfriend could eat as a vegetarian, and a sandwich for me. We said to bring it all at once so that we could pick away at everything at the same time. The salmorejo came out, and it's the most minuscule portion we'd ever seen. Served in a tin cup (cool feature) but not even half of it was filled. For €6,50 it's a pure sham. The burrata came in and that, at least was delicious. Not a huge portion, but good for what we paid for it (~€13).
Then the waiting game began.
After having waited for 25 minutes for my sandwich it still hadn't arrived, and them telling me "it's coming right now" for the past 20, I finally had enough. I went to the terminal and quite frankly asked them what was going on, 'cause I was about to cancel that sandwich. All the servers, all of a sudden, swarm over me and everybody's giving me every excuse in the goddamn book. "The kitchen confused your order" (DON'T blame kitchen to someone who used to work there), "We have a new server who brought your plate to another customer", "We're out of bread and had to run buy", "We never placed the order", "They had to redo it" etc. etc. But they all assured me it would be out, right this very minute.
Okay. I gave them another 10 minutes and started complaining to our waitress again. "No, it's coming, I swear". After FORTY FIVE MINUTES (that 45 people, 45!!) a "wild server appears", clearly one who has experience and asks me, "which sandwich was it that you wanted?". I tell him calmly which sandwich, but also ask, why hasn't there been any information given to me as to why it takes so long. "They lost the paper, but do you want it or not?" I calmly told him that I wasn't going to pay for it, so he could do whatever with it. They invited us for coffee and we had to wait another 10 minutes just to get the bill.
Never coming back. Never ever.
