El Viajero Rooftop Bar - Review - Barrio de La Latina - Madrid - The Infatuation

"If your dreams of Madrid involve sipping sangria under the Spanish sun, head to El Viajero. People come to this rooftop for the views and the location, just 10 minutes from the Royal Palace. Sit in a bright red bistro chair next to an ivy-covered balcony as you take in a perfect view of Madrid at sunset." - Cristina Shipe

El Viajero is a solid choice if you’re in La Latina and looking for a lively place to eat or have a drink. The terrace has a great atmosphere, and if you’re hoping to sit at the rooftop, it’s best to go early or book ahead—it fills up fast. On the second floor there’s also a cozy indoor space with bar seating and a nice view, in case you don’t make it upstairs. The menu is casual, with a mix of tapas and mains, and the patatas bravas were the standout for me—crispy, flavorful, and one of the better versions I’ve had in Madrid. It’s not a quiet place, but that’s part of the charm. Good energy, friendly service, and a fun mix of people. A nice stop if you’re exploring the area or meeting friends.

El Viajero is a vibrant spot with three different atmospheres, perfect for any kind of evening plan. The ground floor is more relaxed, great for a calm drink and good conversation. The second floor is livelier, with music, people standing and socializing — a great pre-party vibe. The third-floor rooftop terrace is the highlight: chilled, open-air, with great views and the perfect ambiance to talk and enjoy drinks with friends. Generous cocktails, and beers start at €4. A must-visit spot in La Latina.

What happened to one of the favourite spots in Madrid. We came every year for 5 years. The rooftop was full of life with people standing in lines to get up. Now it’s empty. When people come upstairs they are confused because half of the terrace is missing its tables. The food is actually pretty fine as always but now comes to the table in take away bags like in a fast food restaurant. Pretty disappointing.

Google
The service was very fast, we got the entrances arriving at the table almost as soon as we got there (they were free btw, unfortunately we forgot to take a picture of them). The huevos rotos con morcilla and the salad were quite good, we recommend.

Google
I really don’t get why this restaurant has 3,8/5 stars, as it is by far, the best restaurant we’ve eaten at in Madrid. The service is fast, the waiters are amazingly friendly, the location is huge and really nice, and the food is absolutely delicious. Can only recommend.

Google
Very nice bar! We stayed on the rooftop and the atmosphere was great. Drinks and food were good and staff was friendly. Tips: if you’re very hungry, enjoy tapas no stop. The main course weren’t that great as appetiser, the portion are the same except for the price.

Google
Love this building, it has 2 floors and a rooftop patio as well as outdoor seating on the sidewalk. There’s a lovely view at sunset from the rooftop, but you don’t really get direct sunlight. Top floor functions as a cafe- coffee and cheesecake were decent but not amazing. Futbol games are projected on the second floor. Food was good, highly recommend the smoked eggplant and artichoke dishes. Tacos were tasty but you make them yourself. Good amount of options if you’re vegetarian. There’s wifi but it’s not the greatest and you have to sign in for it. Staff was friendly but not overly attentive. I’d go back again for the food!

Google
I dont get why this restaurant under 4 points. Everything was fast. And it was pretty delicious. Try it! It does not disappoint you.

Yelp
We ate here on our first day in Madrid and were extremely happy. We enjoyed the food; the roasted eggplant was particularly good. This place deserves a better rating that it currently has on Yelp. We sat in front on the plaza. Our waitress, who spoke no English, was extremely pleasant and went out of her way to help us. Food came out in a totally normal amount of time, since it was made fresh.

Yelp
Was seated outdoor instead of the rooftop because we didn't had reservations, but still had good experience. We had spanish tortillas, patatas bravas, taco set, fish and chips, and the mini burgers. Highlight was the tortillas - the inside of the egg is soft and a bit runny, which i like! I personally like runny eggs better so sometimes spanish tortillas just get too dry for me. Mini burgers come as a close second - amazing juicy meet with caramelized onions. Mojitos are great.

Yelp
Great food and a fun space! Sat on the rooftop - beautiful views and sunset around 9 pm, fun vibe. Ordered a sangria pitcher, highly recommend patatas bravas & guacamole tortilla dishes. Sangria was very good and food was delicious and reasonably priced

Yelp
Looking to eat some of the best traditional Spanish tapas?? I was looking for another restaurant when I stumbled across this gem and decided to stay because it looked that good. We ordered so much food that a table next to us bet with the servers that we couldn't finish it all, but we loved every bite. We ordered: -patatas bravas (highly recommend) -broken egg on potatoes (also recommend) -mussels (massive) -Spanish tortilla (one of the best) -croquettes (if you haven't had them before, definitely order) Our server highly encouraged that we order all this food and we ended up with too much, so I felt slightlyyy taken advantage of, but it was all absolutely amazing. There is a rooftop and the place turns into a cute bar at night, but was also one of the only places that served all food until midnight, so I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
The food was very good, but the service was quite slow. The entire building was full during dinner time. Great atmosphere but the waiters weren't very friendly. Giving 4 stars because the food was good, the ambiance as well and the rooftop bar is pleasant but would probably pick other restaurants over it. An experience none the least.

Yelp
Was our first time in Madrid and came here for the rooftop. View is limited but rooftop is still is super cute. Ordered a few of the baby burgers and smoked burrata salad and both were delicious. Only thing was service was slow. Asked for the check 3 or 4 times and took the server a little over 30 minutes just to drop it off to the table. Also had little patience and a bit of an attitude when we were confused on menu items. Probably wouldn't come back.

Yelp
There are 3 floors to this restaurant. On a beautiful, warm sunny day in Madrid, head all the way to the rooftop and wait for a table - it's worth it! We were seated in 30-40 minutes or so for a table of 2. We ordered their mojitos. Wow! one of the best mojitos I've had. Now, word of wisdom - order in Spanish. We ordered in English, and the server got 2 out of 3 of our food order wrong haha we ended up eating things we didn't order. Which was ok, because the food were good! Just not what we expected. -Calamari, potato, pesto: decadent. This was the best dish. Calamari was perfectly fried, and pesto was a nice touch. -Steak and egg sandwich: meh. Steak was chewy and tad overdone. Flavors were good though. -Jamon, egg, potato: very popular and decadent. Most of the tables ordered this. I liked the calamari version better, but this was tasty!

Yelp
Great experience. The food is good. The rooftop sitting is phenomenal. I ordered salmon dish, it was delicious but such small portion. My friend ordered a sub and Sausage, he enjoyed it. I ordered chicken tears and salmon sushi, equally as good. This restaurant is busy with locals. I would highly recommend this spot

Yelp
My favorite spot in La Latina area. The bartenders here pour you a hefty glass of wine and the food is delicious. This place is always busy and evidently popular with locals and tourists alike. The restaurant is three floors, with each floor having a slightly different vibe. You will have great mojitos here and if you have a group, you may wait a while for a table but its worth it. Check it out. 4.4 Stars

Yelp
Went there only for drinks. Nice spot but they're RUDE. We tried to pay separately but they would't let us and they were super bitchy about it. We also asked for a drink they didn't have so we asked for a recommendation to which they replied "get whatever". Then a couple was sitting at a big table so they moved to another one to let our party of 6 sit where they were. We wanted to buy them a drink so we asked the same bartender what they were having to which he replied that it was impossible for him to know and that he wasn't going to do that. Please keep in mind the place wasn't that full, there were a few empty small tables. Overall place is nice but won't be back cause service is bad. There are other cool places in the area with much better service.

Yelp
Inconsiderate, rude, and inefficient. For the love of God, don't waste your time here.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Very nice rooftop bar/restaurant when it's sunny , okay dishes and that's about it. We were four friends looking for a place to eat and the lady serving the terrace told us about the rooftop. As it was sunny, we went for it. Service was below average. The waiter was fine but didn't clean up our table while taking our order. Orders didn't come at the same time but that's the whole point of tapas but I think he should've asked us if we wanted our order all together. I asked for bread to eat with my charred asparagus...it never came. Note that the terrace was not packed and most of the clients were there for drinks. Not bad for terrace but would be better with better servicew

Yelp
Ouch. Poor El Viajero, poor poor El Viajero. One day I passed by the neighborhood and wanted a beer so I went inside to check it out. I loved the roof top and had since been dreaming of taking my girlfriend (we're crazy about roof top places!!) there for a snack, a lunch or just a drink. Looking at the menu I said "meh" but still thought it'd be a nice experience, especially for the beautiful view of La Almudena and the neighboring buildings. Anywho, we went back just the other day and it was packed to say the least. That's fine, we're not snobs, we don't mind sitting next to other people. You never know who you might run into. Waitress came over and was honestly kind of rude. She wouldn't let us see the menu before we ordered drinks. Like, what? We'd already sat down and told her that we were going to eat. But anyway, we followed the game and ordered our drinks. They came rapidly, no problem. We ordered the two things my girlfriend could eat as a vegetarian, and a sandwich for me. We said to bring it all at once so that we could pick away at everything at the same time. The salmorejo came out, and it's the most minuscule portion we'd ever seen. Served in a tin cup (cool feature) but not even half of it was filled. For €6,50 it's a pure sham. The burrata came in and that, at least was delicious. Not a huge portion, but good for what we paid for it (~€13). Then the waiting game began. After having waited for 25 minutes for my sandwich it still hadn't arrived, and them telling me "it's coming right now" for the past 20, I finally had enough. I went to the terminal and quite frankly asked them what was going on, 'cause I was about to cancel that sandwich. All the servers, all of a sudden, swarm over me and everybody's giving me every excuse in the goddamn book. "The kitchen confused your order" (DON'T blame kitchen to someone who used to work there), "We have a new server who brought your plate to another customer", "We're out of bread and had to run buy", "We never placed the order", "They had to redo it" etc. etc. But they all assured me it would be out, right this very minute. Okay. I gave them another 10 minutes and started complaining to our waitress again. "No, it's coming, I swear". After FORTY FIVE MINUTES (that 45 people, 45!!) a "wild server appears", clearly one who has experience and asks me, "which sandwich was it that you wanted?". I tell him calmly which sandwich, but also ask, why hasn't there been any information given to me as to why it takes so long. "They lost the paper, but do you want it or not?" I calmly told him that I wasn't going to pay for it, so he could do whatever with it. They invited us for coffee and we had to wait another 10 minutes just to get the bill. Never coming back. Never ever.

Yelp
Food was heavy with giant portions, but still delicious, especially la bravitas. We ordered too much, which was unfortunate for our waistlines, and because of the crazy long wait for service or food. Wait staff were sweet but this isn't a place to have a quick drink. We practically had to flag people down air traffic controller style to get some attention in this place. Roof bar is cool, definitely check it out on a warm evening-- but again, expect to wait.

Yelp
The music here was amazing, and the drinks were even better! Asthetically it was also very beautiful, with branches coming up the wall, to books coming up from a tree, supporting the beam. Also it is right near the metro stop La latina, which is a plus.

Sammy L.

Yelp
Incredible food, great music, great atmosphere. Our server Tony was so fun, engaging, and made the experience that much better. Each dish was better than the next and left us speechless. The cheesecake and chocolate cake in particular will knock your socks off. We didn't want to leave when it was over. 10 out of 10 would recommend!! PS really do request Tony

Yelp
I am totally in love with this place! The food is so good that I can go on about it for hours. The atmosphere cannot be described, you have to witness it. This is my first review on yelp cuz this is by far the best restaurant in Spain I have ever been to. Try tacos, you will never forget them.

Yelp
Found this place walking from the cathedral San Francisco. Don't let the pics from yelp fool you, it's been renovated and has a really modern feel. Food was really good for a quick bite. Definitely do the bravistas and the truffle burger. Packed with locals and few tourists.

Yelp
El Viajero is a three story bar/restaurant located in La Latina. It's classier than the typical La Latina bar, but with a great relaxed atmosphere. It's at its best in the summer when you can enjoy an evening drink on the terrace overlooking the La Latina neighborhood.

Yelp
Personally, I LOVE this place. The rooftop terrace is my favorite, to enjoy bottles of wine, drinks, tapas, and the sunset views. On Saturday and Sunday evenings, the place gets packed, loud music is played, and the dancing begins. It does get crowded and hot in there so make sure you post up at the bar to grab drinks. The bartenders get slammed and sometimes it may take a while to get your drinks, but you can tell they work really hard and try their best. Their food is pretty good and the wait is worth it, especially for the rooftop!

Practical D.

Yelp
5 stars for amazing decor and ambience! We got here on a Wednesday Evening at 10pm for drinks! Nice greenery with lights all around the rooftop patio! This was the reason we decided to visit this place. There was a short wait to be seated. We got some nice views of the palace. Glass of red wine was about 4 euros. Didn't order from the menu as we just wanted drinks here.

Ric S.

Yelp
We sat down, and our waitress came over. We ordered 2 cervezas and asked for menus. After 20 minutes, neither the beer nor the menus arrived. We realized she went downstairs for a smoke break, so we left. Pathetic.

Yelp
Very cool bar in the middle of La Latina. I never had food there yet but it looks very great ont the tables of the other people - will for sure try it soon and then write about it! For having a drink in the late evening "El Viajero" is a wonderful place! Try to find a place in the first floor, with sight over the Pza de la Cebada. Interior design is very great and there is a special atmposphere! There is also a DJ on some weekends and you can dance in the bar! Clients are mostly between 25 and 40 and it's a bit upscale. If good wheater (e.g.: on a sunday afternoon, after having visited nerly located "el Rastro") you should go to the Rooftop in El Viajero. It's very beautiful but its always difficult to find a free place!

Carlin O.

Yelp
Awesome mojitos, great atmosphere, and AMAZING tapas. The service was great and friendly-very patient with our lack of Spanish language skills as well.

Kat M.

Yelp
I love the rooftop terrace! The food is alright and the drinks are a bit pricy for madrid standards but totally worth it on a sunny day to have a few beers on the rooftop.
