Yelp
Another great Mexican restaurant. Hole in the wall, cozy, very casual and takes credit card. Birria anything seems good. Menudo was delicious too! Breakfast shop that closes at 3pm. Located in the center area of the property plaza plot or 2nd patio down the parking lot (next to Smile Asian Taste). Everything over had its own oily parts but wasn't greasy = better quality, or slower cooking time.
What to get? Seems to be known for their breakfast options: Birra (meat of choice for street tacos and more), soups (menudo, pozole, carne en su jugo), fresh tortillas (chilaquiles). Reviews showing shrimp and certain burritos are not specialty/not to order.
According to reviewers, it's authentic, Grandparent's cooking, straight outta MX, lots of reviews in Spanish, and closes early = Great signs this place will be delicious. And it was! At the end of my review, I collected item suggestions I found from other Yelp reviewers. I plan to try them in my future visits.
Our Visit: Friday 9amish and the place had a good amount and variety of customers, from construction crew, office corporate dressed water to multiple customers ordering large amounts pre-ordered.
I'm a street taco and menudo (cow's stomach soup) type of gal (because I'm unable to eat dairy, beans, or too fatty/oily items).
- SO got Quesabirria $3.49. Came with a side of meat juices to dip it in. He loved it. He wants to try their burrito next time.
- I got the Birria street taco $2.69, and Menudo $11.99. Menudo (soup) came with either flour or corn tortillas (not handmade tortillas), diced onions, cilantro, and lime. The menudo was less greasy than other places. I love stomach, intestines, inners but it was funky here. And no, not all inners is funky in taste/smell, depends on either butcher or preparation. But adding lime really offsets that. I'll try other things before ordering this again, but most likely will come back to menudo since that's my go-to Mexican soup.
There's indoor semi-enclosed shaded seating and indoor seating. It's a small joint. The table comes with spices, salt and then given 2 sauces (green and red) when seated. The sauces were okay. Secret Menu is a list of modern items...stuff mixed with hot Cheeto or ramen.

Props to these reviewers to suck me into a drooling yelp tunnel vision research on my phone. I originally wanted to find reviews by locals, but tourist reviews helped too since it's become a must visit each time when visiting Vegas. Notes:
+ Victor P. when in town, the musts are Menudo and Chilaquiles (fried corn tortilla pieces, cooked in salsa, sprinkled cheese) and eaten with eggs as breakfast.
+ Freddy A. seemed to have visited a few times. Birra (stew goat meat) tacos is best thing. Carnitas not good. With curiousity of what other places he likes as a local...Ay Jalisco Mexican Grill (Henderson) popped up next to this review. Shows this is his fav birra taco place/better than review here at El Zarape. Others also reviewing Ay Jalisco Grill as their fav for birra tacos too but seems like there the only item good there?
(We tried El Zarape before this place and it's my SO's fav birria taco joint too!).
+ Brittany P. with menudo experience from Mexico? Raved about the menudo. (Other reviews on their soups -- menudo and pozole).
+ Jennifer A. says this dish reminds her of her grandpa's cooking. Carne En Su Jugo "meat cooked in its own juices"...beef soup/stew with bacon and beans.
My next order will be Carne En Su Jugo, then Combination plate next time after that. SO wants to try a burrito. I'm hoping to get my SO or a friend to try the Chilaquiles at some point for me.
