The 10 Best New Restaurants in Vancouver | Eater

"Bringing a splash of color to “Yeast Van” (East Van’s nickname, due to the number of craft breweries in the area) just a few doors down from established brew heroes R&B Ale, the Electric Bicycle Company can be spotted by its flapping inflatable tube man outside and wonderful rainbow-colored walls. On tap are unusual beers such as the Mermaid Man saltwater black kolsch, a thirst-quenching savory brew, and Sorbet IPA with coconut, mango, and pineapple notes. Sixties psychedelic music plays as happy drinkers fill up on grilled cheese sandwiches and snap selfies with the flower-power decor and fake fish tanks." - Nikki Bayley

Google
It was amazing beer and atmosphere. The interior was decorated with great attention to detail. So cute. The highlight was the staff service. Though there was only one staff member, he attentively looked after food and drinks for all tables, and friendly and providing excellent service. I'll definitely come back.

Google
Amazing beer and delicious food. Also, the service is outstanding! Will recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great time.

Google
Came in today and the zig-a-zig-ah spicy mango sour was bomb! That said, the service was the highlight. Stacy was a star, super friendly even though she was so busy. Will be back!

Google
Guy on the bar was rude af. 47 minutes to get our food on a quiet day. Seems like a tactic to make you order more drinks. Disappointed, most around the area are great so just go elsewhere if you are in the area.

Google
A colorful and cheery place for a burger and beers. I really recommend the blackberry coffee sour, it's so special.

Matthew MacDonald

Google
First time going here! A friend recommended it for the beers and the tasty burgers. Gary recommended a few different beers based off what I already like. Great recommendations and the best staff. Absolutely lovely!

Google
Definitely a Fun Retro Vibe. Friendly Staff. Fast Service. Decent Prices. Their Beer Selection was small, but tasty. They have board games in the corner by their merchandise. Cozy Atmosphere. A small to go beer area consisting of their flagship beers. They have burgers available, but the price was around $20.(I understand why) it’s just hard to justify the cost imo. Overall this is a neat brewery to check out for a quick drink and maybe a tasty burger.

Google
I’ve always loved this place. The vibe is great, and the location is fantastic. When they added burgers to their menu, it quickly became our go-to spot for food and drinks on their patio. The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
This quickly became our favorite brewery in Vancouver! Food / Beer - We got the Kapow tots and they were fantastic. They came with the right amount of sauce so every tot had some. Would def get these again. - We ordered a flight and 2 sours. Everything we had was incredible. My favorite was the blueberry coffee ale. Service - Service was great and staff was incredibly nice. - If you are looking for a seat, they will let you chill until a table opens up. Ambiance - Cool laid back vibes - Seating: this place is not big, so if you have a large group you may be standing and waiting for a table. They have a few larger tables that can fit groups of 6, maybe more. - Parking: street parking is easy.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere and the jam sour was super delicious! Fun and funky flavors! Service was great! We did the flight to taste different flavors

Yelp
Been here a dozen times but always sat outside. Riding home from downtown in the cold at night. Turned down where I know two pubs but saw the big screen. I said hello ordered a quick beer and another watching the game to warm up. Out in 40 minutes. Server was awesome simple friendly greeting and leaving. That's all it takes.

Yelp
Cute little spot in the area for beer. There is outside seating on the street and it makes for a nice experience on a beautiful day. The party punch sour was delicious. Definitely recommend this beer!

Yelp
Not a bad place to have a beer. They have a retro vibe and fun decor. Patio outside has about 4 tables (no heating elements). The taps have cool names. Each beer sets you back about $6 for about 12oz. We ordered a couple of beers after they gave us some samples. They have some little snacks such as chips and salsa for $6. Wifi is available. outlets are available by the window seats. Server is super nice the time we were there. Overall: fun place and casual place to have a beer.

Yelp
A beautiful eclectic breweries, great vibes, very delicious beer, and friendly staff. Definitely make this a stop if you are in Vancouver.

Yelp
5 Stars for a vibrant little tasting room with options for food and non-alcoholic drinks for the DD (me!). I was here with a bunch of friends (enjoying murals), but I wasn't actually able to drink because of a short-term medication. My friends loved their flights while I got down with some fun La Croix flavors. We also got to chat with the of the locals on the other side of our hightop table. The spot is teeny, but it feels filled with enthusiastic folks getting their beer on. The colors are amazing and I immediately thought that this was the right spot for our group. Again, not the greatest review because I only tasted the La Croix, but the fact that they have a chalk board highlighting the flavors of their sparkling water helps take the stigma out of being DD.

Yelp
This brewery is SO beautiful! It's a funky, artsy vibe filled with beer and extremely brightly colored decorations. Came in with a group of 5 and we all got flights. I'd totally recommend flights since there are lots of fun beers to choose from. The space is small, but there are long tables for you to post up at and enjoy your selection surrounded by other beer lovers. My fave of all the beers I tried was the aloha amigo- which is a tropical tasting pineapple radler. The others in the flight were not my favorite. Such a cute stop in the brewery area of Vancouver- plus they have food, too!

Yelp
A good place to stop for beer if you are in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood. I love the eclectic atmosphere that this brewery provides and we ended up getting a flight during our beer crawl through the area. Staff were friendly and we were seated quite quickly. Awesome selection for flights, would recommend!

Yelp
Latest brew place in town. Actually tried coming here a few weeks ago when it first opened, but the place was way too packed. In case you're wondering, this space used to be an electrical bicycle shop. Apparently that's how they got their name. Funky and it works I gotta say. Parking is plentiful on the side streets. In keeping with the theme, the place has a psychedelic touch. Everything is trippy, from the weird clashing colours on the walls to the patterned counters to the warped (carnival style) mirrors by the washrooms. The only non trippy thing I could find was a secret hidden Asian cat figurine with the electric moving paw, tucked high up in a corner by a loudspeaker. This little guy keeps everyone from tripping out too badly. The place fills up pretty badly. I've been here a few times and usually I'm packed in like a nightclub. Guess it's a good thing as they're doing well. Staff were friendly. The beers here aren't bad. They had about 6 or so brews as of the time of writing, with an emphasis on the medium stuff such as kolsch and ales. Flights here consist of 4 glasses. They also have food here such as sandwiches, but I've never tried. Definitely worth checking out, though not for those who are claustrophobic. Recommended.

Yelp
Electric Bicycle Brewery is a funky little brewery. We've been twice; once when they first opened and another time on a Saturday evening. Interesting that it's right next door to R&B Brewery. The decor and colours inside reminds me of Austin Powers (groovy baby). There's room for about 35 people with a few tables, bar seats and chairs by the window. The taps are funky. They've been coloured to look like dripping paint. The pink drain pipe and growlers are also slick but the Donkey Kong mini arcade till is icing on the cake. They had 7 beers on tap, grilled cheese and snacks (fruit by the foot!). There's also two non-alcoholic options (Oddity Kombucha and Dickie's Ginger Beer). Trip #1 We dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon (around 3:15pm) and the place was busy. Sadly, they didn't have any flights available when we went. - Mermaid man saltwater black kolsch ($6.90) - this was more like a light stout than kolsch. Not bad. - Thinktank 1 sorbet IPA ($6.90) - pineapple, mango and coconut. This was our favourite of the two. Nice citrus tones and very quaffable. Trip #2 Second trip, we went on a Saturday evening (around 6:30pm). Again, the place was packed. - 2x Flight ($9.00) - we went with the hallo spaceboy tart pale ale (#1), eureka iglasias pale (#2), you're turning violet blueberry stout (#3) and just a little crush tangerine creamsicle pale (#7). Our friend's flight was the same except they tried the Canadian tuxedo brut (#4). Everyone's favourite was the creamsicle. Eureka iglasia pale ale was standard fare. Tart pale ale was much better; liked the subtle tartness. Didn't get much blueberry tones from the stout but it was easy to drink. - Just a little crush tangerine creamsicle pale ($7.50 large) - this one was crushable. EBB is grungy hipster. Happy we went back to give it a second try.

Yelp
Decent, reasonably priced beers. They had a good selection of sours. Was a nice place with young people

Yelp
Electric Bicycling Brewing is one of the newer guys on the scene. They have a really funky space and some really funky beers to try. When I came by, I did a paddle which included a Root Beer flavoured Beer, one that had pineapple and one that had beet. I love that they'll experiment with different ingredients. I saw some people eating Grilled Cheese sandwiches which looked pretty dope and think they had some chips, too. Make this a pit stop on your brewery crawl in Olympic Village.

Yelp
Tried: - only once in Oct 2020 - sat in the patio (as I had my dog) - had beer and snacks What I enjoyed: - allows dogs (on the patio) - colorful ambience - friendly service - most fashionable beer glasses I have come across - nice beers - sampled the superliminal, Crystal game, and yes!. Liked and went with the Crystal game, superliminal was interesting too. Did not like the yes! - grilled cheese sandwich, and chips and salsa were good - good covid measures (e.g., staff wore masks, sanitizer/alcohol bottle on the table, contact tracing) Considerations: - no dedicated parking but 1 hr street parking available on nearby streets - salsa was hot (spicy) - close to faculty brewing co. if brewery hopping

Yelp
Good beer but there is not much more to it. I like the theme and it probably makes a difference if the weather is decent and there is a good crowd. Put it on your pub crawl list for a pint.

Yelp
5 stars for good vibes, good beer, and good grilled cheeses. I'm a huge fan of this new little addition to Mount Pleasant. This spot has only been open for a month now and has been bumpin' and busy from the start. Good for them! The decor is bright and colourful, with a bit of a 90's retro bar twist. There's a huge flower wall (perfect for that Insta photo), their menu is posted up on Coca Cola menu boards, their register is a donkey kong gaming machine, and their furniture is funky. I'm alllll about it. I've come on three separate occasions in a week now - so I mean, yeah, you could say I like their beer. I've tried all of them on their menu now, and my favourites are by far the Aloha Amigo (pineapple radler) and the Beet Juice Ale - two very different beers that I haven't tried at another brewery yet. Their food menu is small and consists of 4 different grilled cheeses. I just have to say, I love me some grilled cheese. So when I saw this on their menu, I was very excited. I've tried both their Standard and Cubano. And I'm such a huge fan of their Cubano - it's a portugese bun, with ham, cheese, peppers, and mustard - so delicious! The place itself is fairly small and the music is fairly loud - which I don't have a problem with, but I could see others having an issue with. I only see great things for Electric Bicycle and can't wait to see what other beers they come out with!

Yelp
TLDR: a Funky, eclectic brewery with colors that pop - much like the flavors of their beers. ____ Came in with a group of 5 and snagged a table. We all got flights. The staff was helpful in helpful by us pick and answer questions. Smash - light crisp a little citrusy Aloha Amigo Raddler - thicker mouth feel, lightly sweet, citrusy pineapple flavor to it. Really good. My favorite of the bunch. Beet - lighter. Earthy. Didn't get beets from it but deff had a nice red tint to it Root beer - licorice flavor. Not my favorite. Nutha Mate - Aussie Ale. Nutty and tick mouth feel to it. Subtle toffee flavor. Really good as well. Great little brewery. First stop of a few for us. Really nice walkable area to brewery hop.

Yelp
Oh boy! Is this place cool! If you're looking for cool vibes, unique local beers, good company, and great service then you've come to the right place! Located in a brick warehouse in Mount Pleasant, that use to be home to an Electric Bicycle Shop (that's how they got their name), the colourful building stood out immediately in contrast to the grey neighbourhood. I came here for a small event. We did not make any reservations and there was a bunch of us but it seems the waitresses were use to the busy atmosphere so they handled it very well. It is a pretty small joint so finding a nice place to sit down if you have a larger party can be a bit of a problem. I really enjoyed their Aloha Amigo (pineapple radler) because it was very light and have an unique flavour! I also loved their Cubano grilled cheese. Bewared though: The music can be pretty loud and with everyone talking over the music you might found yourself shouting a bit. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience there and if I'm showing a friend around Vancouver then I would take them here.

Yelp
This is destined to be your new favorite brewery. I've been patiently waiting for their opening, following them on Instagram (which you should too because their marketing is beautiful) and am SO happy my visit surpassed my expectations. The décor is loud and proud - sure to keep your eyes busy while your taste buds take a wild trip on the complexities of their various brews. For me it almost felt like an awesome time travel back to my childhood with candy for sale, delicious grilled cheese on the menu and that old school coca-cola signage! I loved everything about it. I sipped on the Think Tank Sorbet IPA and WOW I am generally not one for IPA's but the fruit forward flavors of mango and pineapple absolutely blew me away...I could have sat there all night sipping the same beer. You have blown me Electric Bicycle Brewing and for that, I thank you because I was looking for a new brewery to call home! If you're wondering why it's called Electric Bicycle Brewing, we got the inside scoop yesterday and it's awesome. The space used to be home to an Electric Bicycle Shop and all while the brewery was preparing for their opening they kept receiving boxes with different electric motors and pieces to build electric bikes. They even had customers stopping by asking if they have special charges for their electric bikes so while being stuck on a name, one fell on their laps and they're honoring the heritage of the space as it was and bringing a whole new wave of excitement through their fresh take on beer. I can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
My #1 Vancouver brewery because it is interesting and I'm not a beer snob. I can be easily satisfied with out there novelty beers and this place has em' Pineapple radler, root beer beers.. who knows what else and who cares when you are eating a Cubano grilled cheese in what looks like Willy Wonka's kitchen in the 80s! I was hoping for a bike themed room but... the colourful decor and retro stylings made me forget the dark times and my need to see bikes. I DO however wish they would have more bike parking (A Mobi station is less than a block away though).

Yelp
This is my favourite brewery when I'm wanting to enjoy a beer in a relatively quiet space. I love the atmosphere and the staff are always really great. They seem to specialize in hoppy beers but always have a good mix of options. They have a great selection of games to play while you sip. Highly recommend checking them out!
google avatar

Yelp
I had no idea there were all these breweries on this part of town. I've never wandered into this area before this last trip. This is a funky brewery with some interesting beers. I really enjoyed my berry beer. It was kinda like a cider or kombucha. There is not a ton of seating inside but we had no issue getting 4 seats along the wall. I would definitely recommend stopping by.
google avatar

Rie N.

Yelp
Nice concept and cute interior but not really my cup of tea. I ordered flight set but the carbon of the beer is weak, and overall a lot of their beers are more on the sweet side. It was more like a carbonate juice.
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
I love this little place even though I can't drink beer and they don't have any GF food! Oh well, they did have a cold, delicious cider which hit the spot on a hot September afternoon. The ambience is fun and the people are very friendly. It's a little squishy, so if you're claustrophobic you may want to go elsewhere. It would be nice if they offered maybe one more drink for GF folks like myself.

Yelp
Small, quirky & awesome. Spent a few days in Vancouver and did my best to hit all the downtown breweries, and I found EBB to be my favorite. Really delicious beers, with super interesting styles available that taste like they are brewed w/ intent and love. Fantastic vibe. Great service. Pedal over to Electric Bicycle and enjoy the ride! Drink local!
google avatar

Linda Y.

Yelp
Excellent beer. Friendly, efficient brewery staff let me try all three of the Electric Bicycle brews. I thought they were all tasty and ended up getting a pint of the Apricot Wit. Very refreshing. Growler fills are reasonable. A few doors west from the equally excellent R&B and close to Faculty, Brassneck, Main Street Brewing, Big Rock and BeerHall (formally Steel Toad). Great area for a crawl!
google avatar

Leanne A.

Yelp
This is one of the newer breweries that have popped up in the industrial area between Main Street and the Olympic Village so finally had a chance to try it for myself. The décor of the place is circus/carnival-theme-on-a-neon-psychedelic-trip. This place reminded me a of a bar I frequent when I visit Seattle (Shorty's) although just short (lol pun intended) of capturing the true essence of what a scuzzy drinking hole should be. I ordered the Mackinaw Peach IPA and wow that was one delightful beer! It was dry with a nice juicy peach aftertaste that wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. This is also the place that makes the infamous "ramen" beer (beer made from ramen noodles) but don't be alarmed - the beer was super dry and tasted like a crisp Asahi. The only drawback was their "large/pint" size was close to $10 (incl. tip and taxes). Don't be alarmed though, this is a great place to stop by for a pint or two on route to the other quality breweries in the area (i.e. R&B or Faculty). Ambiance: 4/5 - Tiny space with a neat little theme. If you're with a bigger group, be sure to snag the Ouija table in the back! Beer: 5/5 - Rad stuff on tap. Overall: 4.5/5

Yelp
Way cool tasting rrom especially if you like video games and the pop shop feel. Staff super friendly decent beers! Cool place for the after work beer!

Pam R.

Yelp
Limited selection of food and they have a bunch of games you can get at the bar. It's down the street from another more popular brewery and they have a blue air man tube in front.
google avatar

Jesus C.

Yelp
Love the aesthetic of this brewery. They have board games and nice staff and good beer!
google avatar

Pari M.

Yelp
Cool place - cool ambience - really good beer. It's a small place but if you get In a bit early you'll find room. The tables clear quickly though and the service is great.
google avatar

Nataly S.

Yelp
Highly recommend the Floridian. Loved the atmosphere and the bartenders. Great ambiance and great beer. I bought one of their growlers because of their rad design.
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
We first sampled their beers at the Vancouver Craft Beer Festival and came here a few days later. Although most of their beers were way too fruity for me, I really enjoyed their black kolsch. They had phenomenal service though and I would be excited to see what they brew in the future.
google avatar

Timea T.

Yelp
The beer is great here and it definitely has a cool retro vibe, however the host at the door needs a serious attitude adjustment. I don't know if the sour attitude is supposed to go with the laid back atmosphere of this place but I felt pretty disappointed in the way my friends and I were spoken to and made to feel rushed and awkward when our names were called from the wait list. I used to be a hostess years ago and I know if I ever to spoke/behaved the way he did towards customers I would have been in big trouble from my manager. I'm a pretty avid craft beer drinker/hopper so this is a bit unexpected. On a positive note: the bartenders were amazing and super friendly and awesome.

Melissa D.

Yelp
Kookie little spot with delightful service and good beers. The music is amazing and the ambiance is pretty rad. It looks like something out of a teen 80's movie... and it made me so happy. Great find!

Brad S.

Yelp
The beer is decent. I tried the Auz ale and the IPA. The former was nice but could have used a wee bit more hop bitterness. The ambience was cool; nice retro vibe. The service was adequate but nothing more. The price of beer? too expensive. I can get better beer for cheaper at many other brew pubs in Vancouver. And $2.50 for a small bag of chips? no, sorry, not gonna pay that.

Trevor M.

Yelp
Relatively pricey compared to nearby alternatives. They also underserved the IPA, the 'large' was about 16oz, while other beers had a large clocking in at a solid 20oz. No difference in price.
