Electric Bleu - Review - Mar Vista - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"True to its name, there’s a giant electric blue slab shooting out of the restaurant’s roof like a lightning bolt. This new French-ish bistro in Mar Vista comes from the former Shirley Brasserie chef, but it’s got more of a punk rock theme going than anything resembling a Parisian cafe. The menu keeps it mostly classic with mains like rotisserie chicken and steak au poivre with peppercorn-cognac sauce, and starters like salmon rillettes and chicken liver mousse. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE" - Cathy Park

Must try this new spot! Unreal flavors - the tomato salad, the chicken, the steak au povire. And the vibe is fantastic- great playlist (80s), open kitchen. Superior service.

Arrived and was greeted by several individuals, including the chef, with smiles. Sat at Chef Counter. Ordered Bagette, oysters, heirloom tomato salad, halibut and figs. All items were perfection!! Also ordered two different types of champagne and was very impressed at brands I had never heard of but reminded me of Salon. Chef came by and asked how everything was. Very attentive. The food is fresh, eclectic in a good way, delicious and quickly served. Definitely the best restaurant in Mar Vista right now.

I almost don’t want to write this because soon it’s going to be impossible to get a reservation here. First off, my partner has a ton of food allergies, and the staff handled everything flawlessly. Huge points for that. We started with a half dozen oysters, fresh, cold, and perfect. They came with lemon, horseradish, mignonette, and (by request) a little hot sauce. Simple, classic, and delicious. The heirloom tomato salad was next, and it tasted like summer. Juicy tomatoes tossed in a vinaigrette that was just right—not too salty, not too acidic. Definitely grab a baguette and use it to soak up what’s left on the plate. The fig and eggplant dish was a standout. The smokiness of the fig with the creamy eggplant purée was such a good combo, unexpected and so good. Then came the halibut, cooked perfectly. It sat on a fresh herb purée that tied it all together. I just wanted a little more of that sauce because it was so good. We sat at the chef’s counter, which I highly recommend. Watching the kitchen work while getting such great service made the whole meal even better. Run, don’t walk. This is hands down the best restaurant in Mar Vista right now.

I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience here was disappointing from start to finish. The service was painfully slow, with staff seeming either overwhelmed or uninterested in helping customers. Simple requests were ignored or forgotten, and it felt like no one was actually managing the floor. What stood out most was the complete lack of leadership—there was no visible manager checking on tables or addressing issues, which left the entire dining experience feeling disorganized and neglected. For the prices they charge, the service should be much more attentive and professional. Unfortunately, I won’t be coming back.

Yelp
My wife, a few friends and I shared a most enjoyable brunch at the newly opened Electric Bleu! We have enjoyed ourselves previously at other restaurants where Chef Craig has been at the helm. But here in his new setting with creative touches from his wife and design partner, the setting really allows his food to shine in a perfect setting. The menu, service, pacing, and presentation of each item was perfect. Some items were classic French (e.g., rillettes, duck liver mouse) served so elegantly. Other fare was a bit more casual and comforting including the Salmon, Roast Chicken, Roasted Corn with Peppers and some of the most truly delicious French Fries ever tasted. In short, I think they may have created a new genre. A blending of two well-known and different types dining experiences: Truly Gourmet/Epicurean and Comfort Food. Electric Bleu does both so well I can only think of describing to my friends as: Epicurean Comfort Food!

Yelp
In the former home of the Rustic Kitchen lies a hip, new French Bistro, Electric Bleu led at the helm by Chef Craig Hopson. Fresh from Hollywood's Shirley Brasserie and New York's Le Cirque, Hopson serves up some might fine French bistro cuisine right here in Mar Vista. Slide into a cozy banquette and take in the beautiful glass wine display case. Roast chicken like you've never tasted before and Liver Mousse with caramelized onion crackers highlight the small menu. In addition you will find classic French faire such as Steak Au Poivre with green peppercorns cognac sauce. We enjoyed the Brentwood Corn Soup with layers of flavor including the crab-basil beignets. We also enjoyed the flavorful duck, the potatoes with chive dip, and the electric fries with chicken salt. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Love the food. Very casual. Please play french music. We had loud rock and roll. Get rid of the dying orchid and make everyone wear white t shirts and jeans and you got it

Yelp
Incredible Food and service. We sat at the chefs bar and you're facing the kitchen. It's such a treat to watch them prepare the food. The assembly line was like a well oiled machine. Staff was lively and accommodating. We can't wait to go again

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! Great food, especially the salmon rillette and corn soup! Great service and staff.

Yelp
The restaurant was very busy but everyone was very nice and accommodating. We sat in the bar area and the bar tender was very attentive. All restaurant operations seem very organized which was pleasant to watch. The food we got were very good. I do think there was a little too much orange in the fish that overtook the taste of the halibut itself. The steak was excellent and so were the appetizers ( chicken liver pate and the potatoes poutine). I plan to return to Trey the famous chicken!

Yelp
This place was such a wonderful surprise! Food was delicious and the service couldn't have been better. The whole experience felt pleasant and unhurried -- we never felt rushed, just genuinely taken care of. What stood out most was the atmosphere. It was such a breath of fresh air to enjoy high-quality, beautifully prepared food in a space that feels relaxed and fun, without any of the stuffiness or pretension you so often find at LA restaurants. We'll definitely be back and only wish we lived closer so we could make this a regular spot!

Yelp
Great restaurant and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. This place is the kind of restaurant the area was missing. Food and service is 10/10.

Yelp
The restaurant is cozy and inviting, yet sleek and contemporary design. We had a few courses and they were all excellent and cooked to perfection. The frisée with the crispy pork belly salad was delicious I could drink a quart of that dressing! We shared fresh salmon in the most delectable hollandaise sauce and beef chuck with mushrooms with browned green onions on a bed of mashed potatoes was my favorite! Will be returning!

Yelp
I came here tonight for their first night of dinner service and I actually forgot it was their first night. Which I would say is a huge compliment to the chef and the team he has. I think one of the great things about Los Angeles is the fact that you can have a neighborhood restaurants that are exceptional. First off the redesign of the former restaurant utilizes the space about as well as they could've. It has a modern aesthetic. Some feedback for the team before I get into the food: I think the tables were too close together. We were practically touching the people sitting next to us and I think even removing one table and moving the others 4-6 inches would make a HUGE difference in letting people have an intimate dinner...I felt like I was in the other diners personal space and listening to their conversations. To start we ordered the dauphine potatoes- They were delicious - I wasn't sure if the inside was bread but it kind of had that texture. And the outside was perfectly crisp with a great dipping sauce. 10/10. We then had the heirloom tomato salad and I thought this was the weakest dish of the night. The vinaigrette it came with was tasty but It was just sliced tomatoes. I think adding mozzarella to the dish or something and calling it a caprese would add to it. It wasn't bad but we both agreed it needed more. We tried their signature rotisserie chicken which also came with a few potatoes. It came with a breast, a drumstick, and two thighs with one wing. It was enough for 2 to share and we had leftover. We also had the grilled corn which was solid as well. With tax and tip dinner was about $85, which in this day and age I would say is very reasonable for a well known chef like this. Excited to have Electric Bleu in the hood!

Yelp
Was excited to try this new restaurant. It did not disappoint. We arrived a few minutes early and were immediately provided a glass of champagne while we waited. A great start. I agree with the reviews that said a table less would be perfect regarding space but we had a table in the middle that didn't feel too crowded. We shared the chopped liver mouse to start as it is a favorite of my wife. I generally am not a fan but this dish won me over. The corn soup with beignets was incredible. We shared the steak poivre and the duck and couldn't decide which was preferred. Basically my wife and I split the vote but loved both. The chocolate mousse was a nice ending but didn't provide the same "wow" everything else did. Overall the staff was attentive, friendly and capable. It seemed as if they had been operating for years not merely days. Highly recommend it and look forward to dining here again soon.

Yelp
I celebrate the opening of Electric Bleu, an authentic French Bistro in Mar Vista tucked away near the corner of Palms and Centinela. My wife and I have visited twice and sampled most of the dishes and some of the wine and soaked up the warm and cozy atmosphere. I can report that Electric Blue is a most welcome addition to the neighborhood. Among the standout appetizers are a savory Salmon Rillettes served over a pancake-sized Blini and an Heirloom Tomato and Basil Salad that tasted like it came directly from farm to table. The mains include two of the best dishes I have had in Los Angeles this year: a perfectly seared Steak au Poivre served over a rich peppercorn-cognac sauce and Chef Craig's "signature" Roast Chicken and Potatoes, a dish that simply must be tried. I have not had a better Steak au Poivre (with Electric Frites) or Roast Chicken anywhere on the Westside. Chef Craig and his partner Mai run the open kitchen with panache and if you want to watch them prepare your dishes from start to finish, you can sit at the comfortable bar that overlooks the kitchen. In short, Electric Bleu is a neighborhood gem that deserves your attention. I know I'll return and I hope to see you there. Salut!
