The Best Places to Drink Cocktails Right Now in Chicago

"The owners of Jackalope Coffee and Tea continue South Halsted’s renaissance with a new bar steps away from the Ramova Theater. Named for a Black Sabbath song, Electric Funeral leans into tropical drinks with quirky cups and glasses with a dive bar aesthetic. Visitors will find plenty of neon inside and a comfy feel." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago Extends Malibu Barbie Pop-Up as ‘Barbenheimer’ Looms | Eater Chicago

"A West Loop bar with an outdoor space bordered by a perimeter of shipping containers that has recently been taken over by a large Barbie-themed pop-up; the venue is collaborating with organizers on this and other temporary themed events and serves as a highly visible, Instagram-friendly setting for such activations." - Ashok Selvam

Stepping into this bar feels like stepping into a different world. The music is dark, the lights are low, and the vibe is electrifying. The drinks are strong, creative, and reasonably priced. This place is unapologetically cool but approachable. This is a hidden gem for dark souls and open hearts.

When I walked in this place I thought, finally, this was my kind of bar! Sat down with a drink and the touchtunes seemed like it was playing off my favorites list 🤯... Pretty sure I heard some Acid Bath ... Might have been because Starcrawler was playing with Boris across the street but the clientele seemed to consist of some shady ladies (as did the show, you should know.) Will definitely return if I'm ever in Chicago again.

One of the best bars in the city. Incredible owners, staff, drink selection, comfortable atmosphere, and the neighborhood patrons are warm and welcoming. …also, good music playing through the speakers! 🔊 Love it!

Macabre themed bar with great cocktails and a patio in the back. There are always pop up nights and themes going on. Definitely a bar to check out in the Bridgeport area

Across from the Ramova Theater. Very chill and full of vibe neighborhood bar. They do not surf food. Halloween drink menu for October. The bartenders are awesome.

Love it here! Made the trip from the suburbs to check this place out and was not disappointed! Classic dive bar with a quirky fun atmosphere. Elvira on the TV, The Violent Femmes on the jukebox and skull ice cubes in your glass. Delicious artisan cocktails, excellent service, and overall great time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
EF Bridgeport is a treasure for goths and ghouls alike. The art and atmosphere is so sick, such a unique place and vibe with a stacked drink menu. There's a spooky sexiness to this dive that makes for a unique/local Chicago experience. Come for the booze stay for the hot bartenders. No but honestly, the customer service is really exceptional at this themed dive. Travis and Alec took such great care of my friends and I. Despite how busy the bar got at times - they took the time to check-in on our group and keep our drinks full. Come for emo night on Sundays! It's so much fun and the playlist makes you can dance and/or drink away your feelings. 10/10 would for sure recommend! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Electric Funeral is the type of spot I've been searching for in the neighborhood for a few years now. Awesome service and reasonably priced / well crafted cocktails. Couldn't recommend a better place on Halsted to pop into for a couple drinks. Vibes are immaculate. The crowd is cool without acting too cool. Bathrooms are clean. Definitely a must try in Bridgeport.

Yelp
Read a block club article prior to coming. Led me to believe it was going to be a tropical and or tiki bar. Came in on Thursday night seeking a fog cutter which is a gin based tiki drink. I did not get it. I then ordered a miller high life and one of the bartender poured me a shot of malort. This is a beer and a shot bar. There is nothing wrong with a beer and a shot bar but I was expecting something else. The cocktails that are on the menu don't sound appetizing to me, they are not tiki drinks. I drink cocktails pretty regularly, I subscribe to a cocktail magazine, I read cocktail books. I go to cocktail bars.I like beer as well. At this point in the evening I was ready for a tiki cocktail.

Yelp
I'm excited that Electric Funeral opened in Bridgeport - it's a little bar with tons of personality, a great drink list and friendly staff. My friend and I stopped in here one day for some drinks and ended up staying longer than we intended. There was plenty of seating for an afternoon and great music playing. I miss living in Bridgeport and wished this was here when I was a neighbor. All the more reason to visit the area!

Yelp
I know there used to be a small dive bar in this location for a while, but I never saw it open, or was able to go. I'm glad a new bar came in and took over, and a very cool one at that. It's got cool horror/punk vibes, and usually has 80s movies playing on the TVs. They have a good selection of craft cocktails and craft beer, both on tap and cans/bottles. The bartenders are all cool and they accept card, which not all smaller bars do. It's right across the street from the new Ramova theater, and I'm sure the success and people coming for that has helped get traffic there. I've already been like 3 times and plan to keep coming back with other people in the neighborhood. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. A good alternative to the usual sports bar option.

Yelp
Great little bar. The owners are very nice people. Great cocktails, great service, great movies on the tv's, and clean bathrooms. I love the theme and the way the place is decorated. Would return, would highly recommend.

Yelp
Excellent variety and a fun and welcoming vibe. The owners also own Jackalope Coffee and Tea in Bridgeport. They are locals and totally invested in our hood.

Yelp
This guy named Grant wrote a 2 star review because he read an article that made it sound like this place is a tiki bar and he was disappointed that it's really not and, therefore, it is the bar's fault for not living up to his apparent expert level cocktail connoisseur expectations and the misrepresentation of the publication he read. Sorry buddy, no dolphin bananas or tropical shirts or cultural appropriation here! you gotta take your mixology elitism to fulton market where they're still using rail booze in your stupid, overpriced cocktails and you don't even know it. Electric Funeral is locally and independently owned. It's a bar. Nothing too fancy because not every place needs to be fancy. It's decorated for horror/ metal/ punk/ goth fans with black victorian wall-paper, show posters and fringe art. The people who own the place are great folks who also work in their own bar (holy shit now ain't THAT a concept?!) The people who hang out are neighborhood people and friends. They're there for comraderie in an environment that fits their personalities - not for a Fog Cutter which, by the way, Grant, only has half an ounce of gin and is mostly rum contrary to your description - but I digress. They do have cocktails just none of them have a sherry float or a flaming piece of charcoal or a palm tree swizzle stick. If you want to support local, down to earth, fun places then head over to Electric Funeral and leave the river north crap to people who bathe in cologne, wear multiple patterned outfits and use "like" and "literally" in every sentence.

Yelp
Great bar with cool vibes and delicious drinks. My cold dead heart drink is so good. The Last Responder is the right mix of sweet and spicy. The staff is super attentive. And Jan and John are awesome.
