Yelp
Went back to school tonight, in the best way possible. A playful, creative menu with unique and seasonally-changing offerings, the concept behind this restaurant is genius. The service, flavor, and execution still has room for improvement, but I can see the potential.
Service was just-okay. Very casual and laidback, but the servers know the menu and present each dish to you upon delivery. The food was underwhelming, for the most part. The creativity is there, but the flavor lacked, especially for the price point. Also, like others noted, the restaurant is fairly warm inside. Not much airflow due to the small space, so I was a bit sweaty by the end of our dinner. I'm sure in cooler weather it will be appreciated. Overall, I'd rate my experience 3.5/5 (rounded up for Yelp's sake).
QUICK FACTS:
- Parking? Yes, there is a small lot up front and behind with a handful of spaces. Your chances of securing a parking spot are dependent on the day of week and time you go. I dined on a Wed. and arrived around 5:15pm, just after they opened, and had no problem getting a space.
- Reservations? Yes, recommended for Fridays and weekends. The restaurant is pretty small, but they do save spots for walk-ins!
- Happy hour? Not at this time. They currently offer dinner daily and weekend brunch!
FOOD & DRINK RATINGS:
- Pan-damnnn (mocktail, 5/5): This was refreshing and bright. Love the yuzu and pandan flavors. A good mocktail, albeit a bit pricy.
- Seasonal Shrub (mocktail, 5/5): The charred peach and chamomile flavors were amazing. Loved this drink.
- Lions Mane (2/5): Big fan of mushrooms, so decided to give this $6 one a try. Biiiig disappointing. First off, it looks unappetizing. Looks like a brain or...I won't say the other. I couldn't taste any of the flavor notes it describes on the menu, and it tasted like nothing. Just a straight up, plain old mushroom. Would not order again.
- Burrata Toast (3/5): This was good, but nothing special. Given its popularity, I was kind of hoping for more "wow" flavor, especially for $17 toast. The sourdough was good, and the burrata was fresh, but it just tastes like cheese on toast. Pretty bland.
- Cobia Crudo (3/5): I've eaten a lot of crudo, and I have to say this one fell short for me. The cantaloupe gazpacho is interesting - subtle and musky. The cuts of fish were just okay. For $23 it just didn't hit the spot with the flavor combos. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.
- Ramen Risotto (5/5): Finally, a dish that fully satisfied and wowed. Perfectly tender, melty pork belly with perfectly cooked risotto. Flavor profiles were just right, and overall it was a hearty dish that was both comforting and nostalgic. Loved the combo of ramen and risotto!
