Where to Find Poutine Around D.C. | Eater DC

Service was very friendly from The moment we walked in. Decor is on point and makes you feel you’re really in a pub. Food amazing? Great bangers and mash, amazing fish n chips. Grandson had a burger he said was good. Highly recommended.

Another great visit to E&C! The weather was perfect for sitting outside. We started with the fried pickles, which were served piping hot. The sauce was delicious with a bit of spice to it. Our meals arrived very quickly and were also outstanding! I had the steak and mushroom pie and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. We finished off the meal with the brownie sundae. That was also delicious, though it took a lot longer to come out than our meals. Overall, another excellent experience.

Elephant & Castle is a true gem in the heart of Washington, DC. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly blends the charm of a traditional British pub with a lively, modern energy. The staff is friendly, attentive, and genuinely eager to make your visit memorable. The menu offers a fantastic mix of classic pub favorites and contemporary dishes. I highly recommend the fish and chips — crispy, flavorful, and authentically British — as well as their juicy burgers and hearty shepherd’s pie. Their beer selection is outstanding, featuring a great variety of local brews and international favorites. For those who prefer cocktails, their bar staff crafts excellent drinks that perfectly complement the meal.

The food was AMAZING. The service was also amazing. V was our server and he was delightful (I do hope I am spelling that right, apologies if I am not). We ordered a Cesar salad with salmon, fish and chips, and a Shepards Pie. Everything was phenomenal. This was the best meal I have had as well as my group has had in a long time. I highly recommend this restaurant, please go!!!

Went in the middle of cherry blossom season. Busy place. Desirea was a great and attentive server. I do NOT recommend the mezcal aviation.. I'm not a mezcal girl, but it's just not that good of a drink. My server switched my drink for me, which was above and beyond and I really appreciate it. They were out of the pie flight, which was sad, but I understand. I got the steak and mushroom pie, which I will admit was alright. I wouldn't order it again. Their sandwiches looked so good, so I'd probably get that next time. Specails every day when it comes to drinks. I DO highly recommend the onion soup. That was very good and on point. Nice atmosphere and worth a visit. Prices are also very reasonable for DC

Google
I was there with a Group of 18 People without reservation, so i was very suprised how well the Staff handled that. The food was delivered almost faster than i was back at my Seat. I am stunned never expected that. The Food itself was nice and Fresh. I really liked the Smoothies. One con for me where plastic cuttlery but that is a minor one.

Google
We had a wonderful experience at Elephant and Castle! From the moment we arrived, the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We asked to sit outside to enjoy their outdoor seating area, and even though the weather turned breezy with a little rain, it didn’t ruin our night. A special shoutout to Brad, the Assistant General Manager, who went above and beyond by offering my fiancé a beer on him, such a kind and personal touch! The food was absolutely fabulous, great portions and amazing flavors. I had the fish and chips with their homemade tartar sauce and no exaggeration, we could have taken a gallon of it home because it was absolutely amazing!!! We also found the pricing very reasonable for the amount and quality of food we received. Since it’s a British pub, we anticipated a lively atmosphere, but the music inside did feel a little louder than expected. Still, it wasn’t enough to take away from the great vibe and experience. We’ll absolutely be back again soon!

Google
Customer service started off pretty poor as three groups gathered by the hostess stand waiting to be seated for quite a while, blocking the entrance/exit and passed by several employees without ever being acknowledged. A simple, "We'll get you seated in just a moment", or something to acknowledge our existence there waiting would have been nice. After finally being seated the service picked up to an acceptable level. I chose the meat pie flight with a side of poutine which was pretty good and my wife enjoyed her fish and chips. The atmosphere was great, although it may be a little loud for some people.

Yelp
I came in on a busy day when a large group of kids where entered at this restaurant. The tall young lady who I would believed was a hostess name J was super nice. I watched her treat everyone kind and help with everything in the restaurant, I even told the manager that the only thing I didn't see her do yet was cook . She helped with replacing the tissue in the bathroom as I seen her walk back and forth with cleaning off tables and even seating guest. Her work stood out to me a lot , it's so hard going to a restaurant where people actually appreciate their job. She was super great! I would recommend this place to anyone , it has great service

Yelp
OH MY!!!! What a delightful place! Very vibrant pub atmosphere, and great service and drink list! Recommend the Negroni Spritz. Had the "wee pie flight" and the poutine and LOVED THEM BOTH! The steak pie was especially delicious! The poutine gravy was absolutely wonderful! Bread pudding for dessert was SPLENDID! Would easily revisit this place!

Yelp
I came here with a couple of friends wanting a cheap bite to eat with a nice outdoor area. The view here was pleasant and the bites were cheap which was appreciated, but the food itself and service left much to be desired. I got the pie sampler and wasn't the biggest fan of them. There was a cheese pie that reminded me of an unseasoned Panera broccoli cheddar soup, the beef one didn't stick out, but the other two were good. I did like the shepherd's pie. The meat had a lot of flavor and it balanced well with the mashed potatoes on tops. Our server seemed pretty uninterested and left a lot fo be desired as well.

Yelp
Ahhhhh good food in this spot. I give it to them.. they let me take my service dog. Very friendly restaurant. Food was 10/10 The dessert it's sooo big, enough for 4 ppl You can come with you while family.

Yelp
Visiting Washington DC! After walking all over the place, we needed a place to rest our dogs and recharge. Decided to give Elephant and Castle a try as it was on the way to The Capitol. Had a couple of Sam Adams at Happy Hour price! We ordered The Standard which is the house made Burger and the Reuben! The Reuben is Grilled rye bread with delicious shaved corned beef, Swiss Cheese, Sauerkraut and House made Thousand Island Dressing. The Reuben was the better choice of the 2. It was really good! Served with a side of salad... Pretty good lunch! Then off we went to The Capitol! Would I recommend the Elephant & Castle? Yes, I would! #elephantandcastle #british #britishpub #april2024 #washington #washingtondc #reuben #cornedbeef #burger #yelp #yelpelite #socalweekendwalkarounds #visitwashington #outoftown #outoftowner #tourist #worktravels #recommended #pinoyfoodie

Yelp
Popped in there the other day as I was downtown and wanted to try something new. I did not realize it would be full of Real Madrid fans watching the Champions League matchup. With the place mostly full I, surprisingly, did not have any issues getting a table and the wait times for service where incredibly reasonable given how full it was for the match. I had Fish and Chips and a tin to drink. The beer and water came out quickly and the food shortly followed. There was no issues with the food and drinks, it was prepared well. Do not think this place is not a good classic pub because on the outside it looks like one of the numerous businesses that litter Downtown DC. I highly recommend this place and cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Good experience off Penn Ave NW. I like the decor and great TVs. Good service too. I didn't eat, but the nosh looked appealing: crisps&dip, mini sausage rolls, maple walnut brussel sprouts, and several others! I'd like to come back with my appetite on game day to check it out. What do you think?
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
I've been coming here for Real Madrid games the past few years so my experience might be different than some others. Always easy to stand around or find a spot against the bar. I'll make reservations if I want to be seated and eat food and never have had an experience where service was poor. A deceivingly size able restaurant if you consider the outdoor seating as well. Overall, has great food and drink options. It's funny because now that I think of it, I have no idea where the kitchen is and I've been there 10+ times. Either way, worth a try whether it's to attend a Real Madrid/Barca game or just want a bite.

Yelp
Enjoyed happy hour & dinner here before a show at The National Theater. Highly recommend making a reservation to ensure timely seating. I wish a new our waiter's name, but he was a friendly character who seemed to enjoy his job. Check out their happy hour specials for drinks and eats. We had the crisps and dips, which were "fit for a king" as they rightfully claim. I enjoyed the grilled chicken club and sweet potato fries. This is a large pub with more seating than I expected, would love to go back and try out the patio next time.

Yelp
I really enjoyed everything about our lunch here. The atmosphere is British Pub. Location great. Only a couple of blocks from the Archives Metro stop. I had the sampler of 4 Pies because I wasn't sure which one I'd like best. All four were delicious. Seasoned perfectly with a puff pastry square on top. Paired with a salad it was just right for lunch. And for dessert don't pass up their bread pudding!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is conveniently located between Metro Center and the federal triangle station. A wonderful introduction to British cuisine... They were crowded, so I had to wait a bit for service, but just wonderful! The atmosphere is as it should be, noisy, and upbeat! A perfect introduction to the British pub world! I will be back if I am in DC

Yelp
Sooooo sloooowwwww waited like 30 min for chicken sliders and a burger. Both were very dry and bland. The burger we ordered was supposed to be medium, it arrived well done. We dare not send it back for fear of waiting another 30 min. We sat outside. We didn't want to sit inside due to the smell. A waiter spilled a beer outside in front of the door. As patrons were coming through the door they were not warned and made aware of the spill the staff didn't care one bit if anyone stepped in it. To clean it up they just poured water in it then mopped it up with a dry mop no cleaning solution making it stinky and sticky. When we left we had to walk through it making our shoes sticky.. Other than that we saw our waitress twice once to take our order and once after our food arrived we waited soooo long for our food and she never checked on us Tom for any refills e might want.

Yelp
Elephant and Castle British pub in Washington DC offers a mixed experience with its food offerings. While the standard burger and fish and chips were decent, with well-seasoned chips and a satisfying basic pub burger, there were some areas that fell short. The tartar sauce accompanying the fish lacked the expected texture and flavor, missing the usual pickle and caper chunks that enhance the dish. The prompt seating, attentive service, quick and hot food delivery, and reasonable prices were notable highlights. However, the interior decor left something to be desired, with worn-out carpets and seat cloth suggesting a need for refurbishment. Nevertheless, for those seeking a decent meal at a good price, especially with the added convenience of its location near key attractions like the National Mall and the White House, Elephant and Castle is worth considering.

Yelp
I'm not sure what's up with the reviews, we had a great experience. We walked in on a rainy Sunday and we're immediately seated. They weren't super busy which was weird, but we were just hungry and ready to eat. Service was fantastic, super quick the whole time, even the food. The bar is great too with awesome beer options. We got the chicken strips, which were unique but SO good, and the pie flight. Omg. Get the pie flight. The chicken and veggie and traditional shepherds pie were our favorites but they were all great and so fun to try all of them!! We have a great experience, a fun English pub. If that's the kinda food you're looking for, I would highly recommend!

Yelp
We chose this establishment while visiting Washington. Great classic pub! Atmosphere is old English and has great knick knacks overall on display. Host was friendly. Although we sat right away they did let us know things were busy because it was lunch time. That being said we were helped and served in a timely fashion. We did not feel any delays. Menus is an eclectic mix of American, English and Indian fair. Classic fish & chips and curry offerings. And burgers and sandwiches as well. Forgot to take pics of food but everything was delicious and hearty portions. Husband had Reuben and said it was juicy and hit the spot! Friend had a burger which looked great! My daughter had a grilled cheese off the kids menu. It was ok but be warned it has several different cheese so not the usual yellow American cheese only. I enjoyed the fish tacos which had a zesty kick and crunch from a slaw and Asian dressing. So good! Came with a side salad of greens with goat cheese and cranberries and a light dressing. Very good! Family friendly and outside seating made this lunch that much better! Fun thing to note that we loved the kids menu which had menu on one side and funny 'dad' jokes and games on the other. It added to the experience!

Yelp
We left before actually sitting down to order because the establishment did not look clean or smell fresh. I think this is also a pub that tourist must visit frequently.

Yelp
I really liked the vibe of this place, it felt like an upscale Irish pub. The drinks selection looked really good, although I didn't try to actually order anything besides food from the bar. it looked like the bartender was paying good attention to customers though, and the drinks I watched her make looked like good drinks with appropriate amounts of liquor. The takeout food did very well on the walk from here to the hotel, with fries staying crispy and the batter on the fish also doing it very best to stay crunchy. The coleslaw was surprisingly good too, that's usually not my favorite part. I should've grabbed some additional tartar sauce or ketchup for the fries, but overall this was an excellent takeout meal after a long day on the Mall.

Yelp
11.24.23 This is a chain with a British pub feel serving beer and classic fare most notably fish & chips. The fish was flaky and delish, but the chips were just average. My hubby ordered the Butter Chicken and enjoyed it. (Side note: Indian cuisine is popular in England.) Our friend ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and enjoyed it too. Drinks were good. I had a Bay Breeze customized with coconut and rum. Service was a bit slow especially as more patrons came in. There are several tvs in the bar area and an ATM by the entrance.

Yelp
Such a great find close to the mall. Really enjoyed the food. Fish and chips, sooooo good! It comes with one piece, but it's enormous! Pot pie, so good! You can watch sports and cheer and enjoy yourself, or you can sit in a comfy table and chill for a meal. David was our server and was great making sure we were taken care of and making connections with the kids.

Yelp
Came for lunch with coworkers, the hostess took me to the table quickly. Two of my coworkers got the fish and chips which they said they enjoyed. I got the steak and mushroom pie. It came out piping out which surprised me because it didn't take long for my order to come out. The pie was very flavorful. I was with a group of me and they all ordered beers. I'm not a beer drinker but I did try an Irish car bomb drink with them. It wasn't horrible but I liked the mule I had better! The restaurant was large enough to accommodate several large tables at once which is great. It was a nice spot lunch or gathering.

Yelp
We were greeted by the hostess and we did have reservations, which for Thursday night was not needed but always helpful when you aren't sure. Hostess seated us right away, but wasn't displaying the best of moods. Our waiter, Francis came over pretty quickly. Great service with nice personality and very helpful to answer questions and find out information he wasn't sure about. Place was ok with cleanliness except for the men's room. As far as food, I ordered the salmon and requested to be cooked through and my instructions were taken and salmon arrived perfectly cooked. Delicious as well as very tasty vegetables of the day (squash medley) along with very tasty mashed potatoes. My husband ordered the fish and chips. Finally fried fish that was Haddock and NOT cod. The fish was a large portion and enjoyed. French fries were not appealing as they were the type with some sort of batter coating to them and not best flavor for his taste. Overall it was a good meal, served promptly, presented well and no complaints about the service. This DC restaurant did NOT charge any service charge. I will say there's a nice patio, so nicer weather would make a great stop if near the museums.

Yelp
We were excited about it based on reviews, but the service left a lot to be desired. We were up in the upper bar area so the bartender didn't have us and then I don't think we had a waiter assigned to us for awhile until they figure it out. it was also hot up there from the windows. Took forever to refill drinks and provide a check. Food wasn't bad. I had the French Dip, my wife the fish and chips, and my daughter had a seafood pasta of some sort. Everyone felt like their food was decent and would have had a better experience if the service was on par.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick dinner after hitting up a museum. We were all starving, tired, and hungry! The ambiance was warm and cozy and inviting. Service was friendly and quick for our table of 6. We had many orders of fried pickles- so good! Most people at the table ordered the fish and chips with poutine. We all loved it! There was a mix up when the food was brought out so the wrong dish was given to the wrong person (poutine vs regular fries). They were quick to bring out a new order of poutine and a new order of regular fries despite it being partly our fault for being silly and not noticing so people could just swap plates. Coleslaw needs seasoning, though. Kiddos had chicken tenders and the interesting hot dog situation! They loved their dishes. I had a berry mule that was delicious and others at the table enjoyed the happy hour wine deals!

Yelp
The absolute best fish and chips meal ever!!!! Quick service we were in and out in less than an hour even though they were full. Definitely make reservations.

Yelp
Elephant & Castle was a perfect spot to get some classic British Pub food - and they were open late. The restaurant is cozy but has all the classics and it doesn't seem like you can go wrong. The fish & chips was great - clearly a large portion of fish and tons of chips. The best part was that the chips had a bit of seasoning which made them different from a normal french fry. Again, the portion was quite big so I wouldn't expect one person to be able to eat the whole meal - its definitely perfect for sharing.

Yelp
We had just got into DC and were looking for a place to get some good after our long drive. The desk at our hotel recommended this place and I am very glad that they did. We got there just after 6pm and had only a few minute wait for a table for 3. It was on the noisy side in the restaurant but for a pub style place that's to be expected. Our server was tied up and the manager apologized for the wait, which we had no problem with. I ordered the fish & chips, which was quite tasty and filling. Our server made sure our beverages stayed full. Overall a great experience and a great welcome to DC.

Yelp
Very nice place to go, nice patio and friendly service. Loved the Bee knees, was, had the cheese toastie highly recommend.

Yelp
Went here for lunch and it was delicious! It's a cute English themed restaurant with variable seating throughout and outdoor seating that I imagine would be nice had it not been 40 degrees outside. However, it's not really handicap friendly a lot of stairs and the section that doesn't require using stairs looked to be all high top seating. I had the fish and chips and they were possibly the closest I've had to actual fish and chips I had in London. Their homemade tartar sauce and slaw were delicious! The chips were lightly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Just an excellent meal, highly recommend.

Yelp
Stopped here after our visit of Fords Theatre nearby. We chose outside dining and it was perfect! A cloudy/breezy day in the city made for a nice break. Sheena greeted us with ice water and a smile. She took our orders, food was delivered in 15 minutes. Hubby ordered the French onion soup & a side Cesar salad with bacon. Both were terrific! I enjoyed their club with a whole grilled, perfectly seasoned chicken breast, perfectly cooked bacon and fresh veggies on a brioche bun, served with a delicious garden side salad. The menu looked so good! It was hard to choose and every order that we saw looked perfectly cooked and huge! Although we didn't eat traditional English fare, we were happy to have dined here.

Yelp
We visited DC a few weeks ago and stopped in for a beer or two and some food. Good location as it was easily accessible from our hotel in the White House area. Beers were cold. Food was ok. Plenty of TV's for viewing sports. Hockey playoffs were on. Service was very good!
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
We were doing a day of sightseeing and wanted to stop for a quick satisfying lunch and this place totally delivered! I got a Bloody Mary, highly recommend. For food we got Reuben, fish and chips and the pie flight! All were very good!

Yelp
Never been here but stopped in for a quick bite and a pint. Love the atmosphere and the fact that there was Guinness on tap was a blessing. My server quickly brought me a perfect pint and recommended the toastie which (although it had a bit too much mustard for my taste it still gets top notch grading as it was made to perfection. The reviews seemed negative for service but that was not my case. The only negative mark down was the welcoming hostess. She was sour and seemed to hate her job. Not exactly the way to welcome people but otherwise, this place was great and I definitely recommend it.

Yelp
We had planned to grab some late lunch at the Elephant & Castle (E&C) following our tours of the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall. Fortunately, the Elephant & Castle is within walking distance from that area -- no more than about 10 minutes (probably less if you book it). Overall, our experience was ok. I felt the service could have been faster due to not seeing our server make the rounds to our area that often and there being a little bit of a wait between taking our drink order, then our food order, then receiving our drinks and later our food. The E&C overall is a nice British Pub chain that has a good ambiance that radiates what you would expect from such a pub between the dark cherry wooden flourishes from the bar area to the various seating areas, the imported beer mirrors and pictures, the selection of imported beers and themed cocktails, and the fare. The bangers and mash were pretty good with the gravy. The sausage rolls were also fairly solid and devoured quickly. The cocktails were alright such as the Penicillin (Laphroaig 10yr scotch, ginger liqueur, fresh lemon juice, honey syrup) and the Bee's Knees (Beefeater gin, lemon juice, honey syrup & lemon twist). My wife enjoyed the Negroni Spritz (Tanqueray gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, bitters, sparkling wine & a splash of soda). Also the Irish Coffee was tasty when I had my dessert (Bailey's Cheesecake). However, the one thing that brought down the experience was the service. While football games were being broadcast in the backrooms, I felt our server disappeared from our areas for longer blocks of time to where we had to look for him when we wanted our check. That made the experience a bit frustrating when we wanted to first start ordering, ask for more cocktails and water especially.

Yelp
Don't come here if you're on a time crunch. Went here after a double date on a Tuesday night. We were there for over 2 hours, and all we got were 4 entrees and an appetizer. It was clear that they were severely understaffed. No hate to the employees trying to keep up with the customers, but it is not a good look for management. The food was decent. Nothing outstanding, and most certainly not worth the disappointing service.
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
This is a British pub and grill chain. I ordered the buffalo wings, they were a little dry not much sauce. But the dipping ranch did actually taste freshly made. Side salad was ok, not amazing but not terrible. The waitress recommended the fish and chips so I had that and substituted the regular fries for sweet potato fries. The fish was fresh and the batter crispy fried. They do have about 20 different beers on tap so if that's your thing they have quite the selection.

Yelp
Why sweat and starve in a poorly disciplined pub and spend $50 on food when we could walk down the block to a nicely air conditioned palace of food where the servers greet you, seat you, and the waitress is right by the table happy to see us? Never got served at Elephant & Pisshole. Never got to eat. Waited 15min after they immediately sat us in the back by ourselves. No one came by. Every worker who passed didn't look at us or say "someone will be right with you." My husband lit a fire under the hostess and apparently our waiter was a dude who had walked by our section several times without acknowledging us. He strolls in after someone prolly told him about us but we were already leaving. I am not gonna abuse myself to poor service and wait 10-??minutes for water, food, and the bill. We went elsewhere and spent hundreds of dollars on a delightful evening al with spectacular service. Rhymes with Togo le Bao. Try it. Not this decrepit place. To the staff of E&C: you blew off two former chefs (one a local) who have worked the kitchen for several years as a career. We know how it works. We know the pain of the floor and in back cooking. Your display was dishonorable to the entire restaurant. To the owner: fix your staff. This is unacceptable. I ain't a Karen. Your staff are half-assed entitled children. But don't worry. We tipped the brazilian retail staff well. They earned it.

Yelp
We were in town visiting and found this place on Yelp. It looked delicious and reliable. It was a half block from our hotel, and a short walk. We arrived and immediately greeted by a host who seated us. Our seats were in a heated area and the booth was comfortable. We noted in the Yelp Reviews that this was considered an English Pub with excellent Fish and Chips as their main appealing entree. We ordered: Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, Noble House Salad with Grilled Chicken, and an appetizer of onion rings for the table. They also had Heineken Zero, which is always great. The bangers and mash was OK but the sausages had a hint of a Mediterranean taste in them and so it just didn't taste like English bangers. The chicken on the noble house salad also had Mediterranean seasoning on it. It was either turmeric, coriander, Korrie, or ginger, and it just didn't have a great taste to the chicken. I think we expected our meat to have just the basic seasoning of an English grill, not Mediterranean Spice. I am allergic to turmeric and ginger so I had to take allergy meds right after my 4th bite of my salad's chicken; definitely did not expect that seasoning in an English Grilled Chicken Piece atop my English Salad. Fish and Chips were good. No vegetables with the Bangers and Mash. Overall server did not come to check on us, we needed more napkins and also I wanted to ask him to take my chicken away because of my allergy, but we never got a check in. This is the main reason for the three stars: At the end of the meal, I specifically asked for the check. The server came back and handed the check to my husband. This was super disrespectful as I was the one taking care of this tab but it's also misogynistic. It should be noted that whoever asks for the check should be handed the check not a man just because he's the man in the party.

If you want fish and cheap done right, this is the place to be! Great pub food, ambience and very friendly service!

Yelp
I really liked the food choices here. I got the Wee Pie Sampler, and indeed the pies were wee, maybe 2-3 good bites each. That being said, they were rich and filling, and with my two Guinnesses I was plenty full and happy. The steak and mushroom pie was probably my favorite, flavor-wise, despite one chewy bit of fat. The chicken pot pie was also yummy. The potato leek pie was delicious, like the best potatoes au gratin ever. The Shepherd's pie was my least favorite. It tasted good but was somehow simultaneously greasy yet dry. All this being said, I highly recommend. I sat at the bar on a busy Saturday afternoon and the bartender was friendly and prompt despite being, what appeared to me, short-staffed. It was a fun crowd watching soccer. I'm traveling alone but if I lived locally I would come back with friends. $37 all in for the pies+ 2 beers + tip.

Yelp
Great place downtown for some traditional British food! The fish and chips was the star of the afternoon! It was fried just right and the fish was so deliciously tender and juicy and not bland! We also got the pot pie flight which was delicious also! They could be a little bigger but it was still worth the price! The only downside was our bartender was basically the only person serving the bar area and many times forgot some of the things we asked for. But that was no fault of hers as one person can only do so much! We plan to go back again next time we decide to venture downtown from uptown!

My friend and I had a nice experience at this downtown DC restaurant for a quick lunch! Our server was nice--very funny and charming as well. The interior of the restaurant is very spacious and certainly has a British pub feel which is very cool. We began with the butter chicken poutine. I love Poutine and i love butter chicken, so this was a heavenly combination. Unfortunately, the chicken wasn't quite tender enough, and the whole thing could have use some extra flavoring and crunch to really elevate it. The fish and chips were very tasty! It's hard to mess up fish and chips, but I did really enjoy these. I liked the wee pie flight too! For $12, it was a very fair portion, although the waiter did accurately warn me that the pies would be small. I enjoyed this restaurant and would definitely come back!

Yelp
First time here, and absolutely everything was great. Like other reviewers you have to try the fish and chips, and I'm not usually a fish person! The hummus appetizer was also outstanding. The real plus is the great, friendly and efficient service. Will definitely be back

Yelp
Just went back in time to our last journey to DC to our favorite place for lunch!! We both had the "Wee pie flight" which was totally outstanding!!! Just a little taste of their specialty's Shepherds pie, Chicken pot pie, Steak and mushroom and cheese and potato!! Our server was Fausto who did an excellent job on service!!! Can't go wrong at this place!!! What a great combination of awesome food and of course great beer!!! We will do lunch here again before we head home!!

Yelp
Great food, low price. Slumdog was my favorite item! Free Refills!!! Unfortunately had slow service, lots of waiting. Ambience was great, not too quiet where it was awkward but not to loud where we had to shout.

Yelp
Tasty English food. Elephant & Castle is styled as an English pub with dark wood panels on the walls and dark wood booths. There are televisions scattered around the restaurant such that they are in easy view of any table. We visited on a Tuesday afternoon and it was nearly empty. I ordered the falafel wrap with sweet potato fries. The falafel wrap had a great flavor, the sweet potato fries were perfect, and the dipping sauce was tasty. Overall, I had a good time at Elephant & Castle and would recommend them for British pub food.

Yelp
Service was great, we were seated promptly for our reservation and the waiter was attentive. It's loud in the restaurant but we were there at peak lunch hour so that is to be expected. The food was a bit of a disappointment, bangers and mash is a traditional British dish and we expected more flavor.

Yelp
A place my family frequents when we visit Washington DC. We stopped in recently during the week for their midday happy hour. Your average British pub with excellent fried pickles and burgers. Seemed busy for a Monday night, but nonetheless our waitress was attentive and accommodating.

Yelp
Great pub to grab a drink before and even after a show at the National or Warner Theater! Dani was an awesome bartender, and remembered our drink order when we came back after the show.
