Best Thai Restaurants in D.C. | Eater DC

"This longtime Merrifield favorite keeps spice levels high if a customer desires. Standout dishes include most soups, a Thai play on spaghetti, crab curry, and the sen yai ladd na moo mug, which marries marinated pork, rice noodles, pickled pepper, and Chinese broccoli. Dine-in service is available; takeout and free delivery (within three miles of the restaurant) through the website." - Missy Frederick

Where to Eat and Drink Around Merrifield and Dunn Loring | Eater DC

"Nestled in a deep corner of an unassuming shopping center off Gallows Road, Elephant Jumps can be tricky to find, but it’s worth the effort for one of the D.C. area’s best Thai restaurants that doesn’t hold back on spiciness. Some of the more interesting dishes on the menu include a funky tuna curry, a Thai play on spaghetti, and the sen yai ladd na moo mug, a well-balanced mixture of marinated pork, rice noodles, pickled pepper, and Chinese broccoli. Lunch specials are reasonably priced." - Missy Frederick

Google
I visited Elephant Jumps Thai Restaurant to try out some of their special dishes, but unfortunately, they didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Beef and Tendon Spicy Noodle Soup and the Crispy Pork Belly Basil. While the presentation was nice, the flavors didn’t deliver the wow factor I was hoping for. The service was just okay—not particularly attentive or memorable. Considering the portion sizes and the area, the prices felt a bit steep. I ended up spending over $70 for the two dishes, including tax and tip, which seemed a bit high for the overall experience. The ambiance is decent, and the menu does offer some unique options, so it might be worth another visit to try something different. For now, it’s a mixed experience for me.

Google
Great food, friendly service, their authentic menu is great, especially the crispy pork belly and beef tendon noodle dish. I've been here 3 times and the food is consistently good Their mango sticky rice was amazing as well. Good portion sizes

Google
The good was delicious and the waitress was extremely friendly. When I told her I have a gluten allergy she was very knowledgeable and explained what all on the menu could be made gluten free. Definitely check this place out. If you decide to get a spice level btw medium is pretty dang hot!

Google
The food was pretty tasty. This spring roll was tasty. Thai iced tea was very light. Not much taste. The spicy Thai shrimp soup had some nice spice. The pork belly had some good flavor. Not spicy and wasn't as crunchy as I have had at other places. Service was kind of slow. Seemed to be only one person taking orders, and delivering food. Overall everything was good.

Google
Order the CHICKEN CASHEW IN TARO NEST as thai spicy and it was truely excellent. Perfectly cooked, well balance of flavors definitely made with natural spices as it had a strong burn but tasted natural and went away quickly. Staff is always so friendly and nice. Keep coming back since 2016 anytime I am in the area. Highly recommend.

Google
We have been dining here for several times now and for the past previous times we were always satisfied and thought this was such a gem of a Thai resto that part of Virginia . But today was a totally different experience ! The crispy pork belly which used to be their piece de resistance has gone below par. Gone is the freshness and crispness of the menu ! The second menu we ordered was the one with eggplant and tofu. The eggplant was overwhelmed with tofu . There was only a few pieces of eggplant incorporated in the main dish ! Both food were served cold ! My wife and I were totally puzzzled what happened with the quality of the food which suddenly went below par . Did they change their house chef ? We are just curious ? Unfortunately , because of our frustration and disappointment today , June 12,2024 you just lost 2 of your loyal diners !!!

I recently went to Elephant Jumps and really enjoyed my meal. I had the chicken satay (nicely grilled with a tasty peanut sauce), the chicken Panang curry (creamy and flavorful without being too heavy), and a soup that was similar to the Panang — I can’t remember the name but it was delicious and comforting. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcome, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Overall, a great spot when you’re craving classic Thai flavors done well.

Yelp
I was super happy to have tried this place out. I'm surprised that rating for this place is on the lower side. It's definitely authentic Thai. I had the Ladd Na Moo Mug. The wok flavoring in the noodles was definitely present, the noodles itself were nice and bouncy, and the gravy was really good. They really know how to make the dishes spicy, like actual Thai spice. I would also recommend trying out some of their other dishes rather than the basic dishes that everyone seems to get at every Thai place. Some of the dishes cannot be altered at all and it says it on the menu as well. If you need more spice, you can ask for a spice tray. It's also not hard to do a small taste test of each spice before adding it into your dish to see which one would pair well (this is in reference to another review here lmao).

Yelp
The absolute best authentic Thai food in the area. Great place to share apps or share a meal. Second time we visited tonight and service was great again! Will be back!

Yelp
We stopped here for a celebratory lunch. I thought it was only ok. They don't have a normal pad see ew option which is our favorite Thai dish. They also don't let you pick spice levels and just bring the spices out but I didn't really know which ones to use. The pineapple fried rice and drunken noodles were also just ok. Our waitress was nice but kept disappearing so we would have to wait around for more water, boxes, the check, etc. Sad to say I won't be back.

Yelp
Great new Thai place for my go-to list. Found this spot based on favorable reviews and it did not disappoint. Started with a Thai iced tea that was smooth and well balanced. Next had the crispy salmon salad with medium spice. This really impressed me as the fish wasn't dry at all to compensate for being fried. The medium spice level was a tad too much but didn't ruin the dish. For an entree we got the crispy basil and pork belly. Blown away! Both the pork and basil had a great crisp and I liked the sautéed onions. Dessert was mango sticky rice. Nice sized portion and cooled off my mouth from the heat of dinner. Overall will try this place again and try new dishes.

Yelp
Still great. We started out with the Thai dumplings and the always-reliable papaya salad. We were comped a neat dish for Valentine's Day: a beautifully presented purple bean paste something with a spicy as heck center. Look, I don't care for bean paste anyhow, so it was never going to win me over... For our mains: The cow soy duck was as delicious as ever, and the crispy basil Tilapia was just perfect.

Yelp
I've been coming here since they first opened when I was a kid (I think?) and they have never failed me. Their pineapple fried rice is classic -- both with and without the curry powder, which is not spicy. We always get a whole host of appetizers: chicken satay, golden triangle, spring roll, and fried shrimp, which really rounds out the whole meal well. I've also had their pad see ew and their drunken noodles. Spice can definitely hit, so bring it up with your server if it is in fact a concern! The prices are significantly more reasonable than Sisters Thai down Gallows Road and I honestly like the two about the same, but this place feels a lot more homey. It also still tastes great to go and they box it up really nicely for you!

Yelp
I ordered delivery and service is great but the food, i cant even show in public what my order looks like. Its super sad. I think Elephant Jumps forgot to add the beef on the padthai Theres just 2 thin slices of beef- the container is not even full - its 3/4ths full. For an order that costed $19 - at least there should be beef on it , looks like its left over from someones order - the ingredients was just thrown in the container - it looks like an upside down padthai - just imagine your plate dropping on the floor. Its not shaken its like that at the bottom of the container is the peanut and the bean sprouts - the 2 slices of beef tucked and thats it - the chicken satay with 5 skewers of 5 measly portioned chicken. With 2 sauces also not full. I even chose this place among all suggested because of the ratings. I feel liked my moneys worth - $40+ total of 2 orders - saddest chicken satay $11 and measly padthai $19 plus $8 delivery fee, plus tax plus tip is not worth it. Im sorry for a bad review. at least the padthai is good. But still ;((

Yelp
Amazing thai restaurant, serving a large menu including a lot of special dishes you won't find at most other spots around. Dining room is cozy, service is friendly, and food comes pretty quickly. the yum pla dook foo was amazing. delicious, crispy, slightly spicy and funky sauce. great opener. the beef jerky was also nice. pad thai was solid. the rama was the best version I've found in the area, delicious. Can't wait to return and try more dishes
google avatar

Yelp
Food was okay. Not flavorful and all the protein we had was thin and way overcooked. The Rama Long Song and Chicken with coconut rice were served luke warm. I wish they were warmer. We asked for medium spice but it was void of any spice. The $5 spring roll app was 2 of the smallest rolls cut in half. Very disappointing. The side plates we got were also not very clean (there was lint residue). Bathroom was also weird. There was no soap, only a Costco shower gel next to the sink.

Yelp
During our visit, We were welcomed by the staff of the restaurant and I asked to use the restroom (which I recommend). The decorations of the walk to the restroom and inside of the restroom was very well arranged. Back to the food, we ordered the DELICIOUS Thai Chicken Satay to start things off. I ordered the crispy salmon salad & I got the "medium" spiciness for the level of hotness. The salmon and salad were of prepared well however way too spicy for me, keep in mind that I do eat spicy foods often but this was too much to eat enjoyably. I'd go back for sure but I would try the food at a lesser spice level.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. If you go lunch time they have amazing deals. Can get a meal and side for like $12. I got the Panang Curry that came with spring rolls and salad. Really good curry dish, a lil different type of curry from others as you can see in the pic but I really liked the difference. The spring rolls were really good. When they say spicy they mean it here, for all my spice lovers. I think my bro got the Drunken Noodle and that was really good as well.

Yelp
Disappointing subpar bland food, and doesn't measure up to the glowing rave reviews. The Thai restaurant is tucked in the corner of a small shopping center next to CVS. It was bustling on Sat night at 8pm with nearly every table full when I picked up my carry-out order. The Pad Thai was very dry, bland, sweet, and not fresh. It seemed to be made in a bulk batch and sitting under a heat lamp. The fried tofu was stiff and dense. The Penang Curry was very runny with a spicy kick (I requested mild). While the curry was flavorful and came with steamed tofu and a medley of veggies, I wish there was a stronger peanut flavor. Fun to try, but not a fan. Neisha Thai in Tyson's is my go-to!

Yelp
The food was a 3.5/5, but lowering it to a 3/5 because of pricing & cleanliness (or lack of). There was a fruit fly crawling in my romaine lettuce, so they probably don't wash or take a close look at the food they are serving to others beforehand. The servers are very nice and did a great job accommodating this and were in general very helpful when we were deciding on what to order. My friend and I saw the pictures of the food here and thought it was a lot more authentic than other Thai restaurants we've been to. So we came with a lot of high hopes, ready to order something from their authentic menu. GANG LAY CURRY - 20 This is the slow-cooked pork in curry which comes with sticky rice and some romaine lettuce. The portion size was pretty small, imo. I thought the pork would be a lot more tender, but a lot of pieces were dry and dull. The curry was savory with hints of spice (I thought it would be spicier, tbh) and a tad too oily for my taste. There were also purely fat chunks which I avoided. The sticky rice was also hard to separate and felt old/stale, like they left it in open air for a few hours and neglected it. Overall, not impressed by the quality here. My friend got the COW SOY DUCK and didn't think it was worth 25 since the portions were small. The duck leg was pretty dry and her egg noodles were overcooked. I thought the curry was very coconut-y and flavorful. Other than that, I don't think it was worth what she paid for and using duck instead of chicken definitely upped the price by 5-7 dollars. Overall, not the best experience given the two dishes we ordered. Maybe there's something else here that they're known for?

Yelp
Hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant inside of a strip mall that has an incredibly authentic menu The place has a casual feel, but the food is anything but average. They have some Thai dishes that I had never heard of before, and they make all of the Thai classics very well You can't substitute the meat or change the spice level on a lot of their dishes I got a Thai dish I had never seen before (which was comprised of noodles, beef, and a brown sauce), and my GF got the Pad Thai. Both were delicious, but mine was pretty spicy. Water tasted a little funny. I think they need a water filter Very friendly server Have my favorite guava flavored mints that a lot of Asian restaurants give out
google avatar

Kin K.

Yelp
Restaurant and server was nice but the food was the worst Thai food I've had. Inauthentic Pad Thai that is drenched in sauce and so mushy. I asked the front desk if it's an off day or if it's typical like this and was told this is how it is here.

Cindy L.

Yelp
It was my first time eating at this place. This place can improve by serving the right amount of food portions when you spend nearly $100 for a couple of container of food that looks like someone else ate it before re-packing it up into a ToGo box. I am so disappointed and I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Booooo
google avatar

Yelp
I first got takeout from here a few months ago, drunken noodles with beef, and it was AMAZING. the best I had maybe ever had. Perfect taste, tender beef. The last two times I've gotten this dish it has been way more bland, and today's order also smelled so burnt with lots of little pieces of burnt chunks making it taste burnt and entirely smokey--NOT good... and I'm not talking how sometimes the noodles will have a seared crisp, I'm talking truly burnt clumps. The beef was incredibly tough, hard, and chewy. No idea what happened, I was so excited to have found a closer Thai place I loved but I'm back on the hunt!

Yelp
I've been going here for years with my family and it is always consistently good. I will say, the lunch specials are much better value than dinner. And the restaurant decor is very minimalist/bare bones, so it is much better suited for a casual lunch place than nice dinner. On to the food, I've always loved their famous shrimp toast and their fish dishes, but recently went with my family and tried some new dishes. Yum Hua Plee, was a very interesting and flavorful dish, I've never tasted anything like it before! It isn't the most visually appealing dish, but it was excellent over rice with all the savory juices. Ka Na Neua was delicious and savory with a unique Smokey finish that was addicting. Excellent especially enjoyed with the spicy pepper vinegar that they gave on the side. Crispy Shrimp, this was FANTASTIC! Crisp crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked shrimp inside. The batter might have been mixed with coconut? And it had a sweet sauce. The star dish of the meal for sure. Lastly the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Ka nom Jeen Gang Keow Wan were my least favorite dishes. The Pineapple Fried Rice had Singapore noodle flavor, which while good was not what I was expecting. Wish it had been described as such on the menu. And the Ka nom Jeen Gang Keow Wan the rice noodles were flaccid and over cooked. Overall I recommend sticking with any seafood (shrimp, fish, etc) and with some of the more unique appetizers like the Yum Hua Plee, and with a shoutout to the Ka Na Neua.

Yelp
Like spicy Thai food? So do I! If you do stay the hell away from this place. I love spicy food -- thai peppers, habaneros, ghost peppers growing in my back yard -- and there was a time that you could get spicy food here. When I ordered my food the waiter asks "Is medium spicy okay?". I ask if I could get it spicier. "Do you want Thai spicy?". I say yes I do. Great! But then I see when he's passing the order back to the kitchen staff he's pointing to something on the ticket and they both have a giggle. I'm thinking to myself, well that's the end of "Thai spicy". Sure enough my dinner comes and it is completelty spiceless and bland. Now I can't think which is more insulting. 1) offering something that they had absolutely no intent of providing or 2) providing something I didn't ask for then handing be a bill for it (stupidly I paid) 3) having a waiter far less than half my age deciding he needs to help me with my food choices. 4) them pulling this bs and having a giggle over it. Twats.

Yelp
The lunch set is quite good. Although the price has increased, it is still reasonably priced overall. The flavors of the other dishes are not bad either, generally at least above average. However, the prices are on the high side, especially for the weekly specials, which are excessively expensive. Personally, I feel that the taste and consistency of the dishes don't justify the price. This used to be my most frequently visited Thai restaurant, but now I rarely go there.

Yelp
Wow! It was our first time but I must say this is one of the best Thai restaurants in the DMV. You must try it to see for yourself. They have a very detailed online menu: http://www.elephantjumps.com/thaimenu.htm T1. SOM TUM KA PEE...$14. papaya salad, shrimp, shrimp paste, pork rinds, a side of sticky rice. Ka Pee is shrimp paste. Thai add Ka Pee into many things including this salad to make a rich flavor Som Tum. We are not only upgraded the salad, but also adding a side of of Kab Moo (pork rind), and a Kao Niaw (sticky rice) into this item. The combination gives savory rich flavors in contrast with cracklings, while match with chewy texture of rice. Chef's favorite. We serve this as is only. T3. GANG HUNG LAY...$20... slow cooked pork curry, side of sticky rice. This is a staple. The pork has been cooked on low heat for a good 5 hours. So it's so tender, juicy and flavorful. When eat with sticky rice, there is nothing cto compare. The serving size is relatively small due to labor intensive. But the heavy sticky rice and the delicious curry will make it up for you. A must try. T6. SEN YAI PAD SEE EW MOO MUG...$16... dry stir fried flat rice noodle, chinese broccoli, marinated tender pork, egg, thai pickle pepper in vinegar. thai style smoky finish. An authentic and original Pad See Ew comes with marinated tender pork, same as #T5.Ladd Na. Again, you may sit down at any street food carts in Thailand, and ask for Pad See Ew. You would likely get pork Pad See Ew. We marinated the pork to make delicious Pas See Ew. Oh, you should add at least a few drops of vinegar into your Pad See Ew to maximize the flavor, and some peppers for spicy when needed.

Yelp
My friend and I came in for an early dinner. We were greeted very warmly but the staff and sat down. The waitress explained how the menu worked and recommended some things we should order. I got a Thai ice tea and the crab fried rice while my fried got the pad sew ew. My crab fried rice was prob one of the best crab fried rice I've ever had! Seasoning was on point with tons of big chunks of crab :) so so delicious. My friend really enjoyed her pad sew ew as well. Very delicious and very authentic place! Would gladly come here again when I'm back in the area so try other dishes.

Maria C.

Yelp
Food good . Portion sizes inconsistent. They left me on hold for 10 minutes and hung up on me. They said they were busy after they hung up on me and I called back. most of the time when I'm in there there's no more than two parties and sometimes empty. Sometimes they forget the rice. Sometimes they forget the sauces but unfortunately, there's one dish we do like so we keep coming back.. and FYI, Safari on an iPhone does not work to order online. Always check your bag before you leave and try to order online to avoid any customer service issues.

Lin B.

Yelp
Pas Seew was the best! I am a pad se ew snob. And these were delicious! I have searched so many restaurants for it to be made this way. Too bad I am from Atlanta, and will probably not be back here.

Yelp
The service was good and responsive, even on a busy weekend. The food, especially on the authentic/gourmet part of the menu, is a bit overpriced for okay food. Spicy but bland for the entrees. Best part was the Thai iced tea, also a bit overpriced.

Yelp
Lunch specials abound. Plenty of food. Fast service. Fairly small seating area. Food was very tasty

Yelp
Elephant Jumps used to be our local Thai restaurant.  But, we haven't been back in years now.  The restaurant is convenient and there is lots of parking and it has a really good reputation (listed often in the Washingtonian.)  We ate there recently and had a nice dinner with friends but it seems we must not have ordered what others rave about.  It was ok and the service was good (although there was a mix up with our reservation.)  A lot of what we chose ended up being a little bland, surprisingly, because Thai food normally packs a lot of flavor and heat.  The papaya salad did have a pleasant kick but our chicken satay and chicken aroma coconut rice were a little disappointing being that they were pretty plain and non-descript.  The gang pah nuahh was the best dish of the evening.  It is one we would definitely order again.  On our next visit, I think we will have to do some research as to their most flavorful dishes since our own guesses mostly missed the mark.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Started off with the Thai Fresh Roll and a Singha beer. They poured the beer into a frozen glass (love this). The Roll was delicious. Didn't taste as crabby as I was hoping. For the entree I did Ladd Na Moo Mug. Really enjoyed the flavors of this dish. Was piping hot. Went really well with that beer. My buddy got the fried scallops. I don't like scallops but thought these tasted pretty good. Not a fan of the texture. Would love to try out other dishes if I ever get the chance to stop by here again.

Yelp
The drunken noodle and the crispy pork belly were delicious, packed with flavor! However I wanted to try something new and got the ka nom keen gang keow wan (green curry over Thai noodles) which was a disappointment, did not look good or taste good. I would stick with the safe choices next time!

Yelp
We saw Elephant Jumps pop up in a Yelp search and thought we could use some Thai food so we placed a takeout order. We've came here once about 5 years ago and it was very good so we still had high expectations. We ordered the Yum Hua Plee (banana blossom salad), Thai Dumplings, Roti Green Curry Chicken, Chicken Cashew in Taro Nest, Chicken Aroma Coconut Rice, Croissant Pudding, and a Palm Sugar Drink. Order was estimated to be about 25 minutes and it was ready right when we got there. The restaurant was pretty busy and they even have outdoor seating now (new to me). The food traveled pretty well and we were excited because it smelled great. Pretty much everything was a hit. We really loved the Thai Dumplings, Green Curry Chicken (the roti could've been a little more cooked), and the banana blossom salad. The Chicken Cashew was solid along with the Chicken Aroma Coconut Rice but didn't really taste any coconut. The croissant pudding was a really nice bread pudding with cinnamon and raisins. A little disappointed, I thought the Palm Sugar Drink was made in house but it was still decent. Kinda like a milky coconut drink (it says its only 1g of sugar but I don't believe it). Overall its still a solid Thai restaurant. They have a huge selection of authentic Thai dishes and everything had some nice spice on it so watch out for that if you're not a spice person.

Aki T.

Yelp
Great food! Very friendly owner! Our order were: Banana leaves salad Pork Belly with fried sweet Basil Pad Thai with shrimps All Were wonderful! Especially we loved banana leaves salad. You can taste all the spices in layers with gave you a comfortable texture!! The lady's bathroom was spacey. Very clean and decorated. I strongly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Do you work at Inova Fairfax hospital? Then you have likely ordered from Elephant Jumps and their unbeatable weekday lunch menu. Do you work somewhere else? Trust me, nurses know where to eat and you should heed our recommendations. If you don't work somewhere within their delivery circumference then go there for dinner. They are extremely legit and tasty!
google avatar

Yelp
The papaya salad and the fried salmon were really good! Was not a typical Thai place as in they had several items on the menu I have not seen at other Thai restaraunts. Service was good things came out immediately!

Yelp
We love this little Thai place near the Aldi. Quick service, excellent food. Indoor or outdoor seating. Drunken Noodles delicious. Nice lunch specials. They have take out too. Enjoy.

Yelp
I worked near Elephant Jumps for a few years, and this is the most memorable restaurant out of all the places that I visited. Everything here is delicious! I absolutely loved their shrimp toast and the basil chicken. The food is always freshly made and comes out quick considering! Last time I was here they had good lunch specials. I highly recommend coming here for lunch since I usually either would come here for my lunch break or get takeout. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! CONSISTENTLY DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Please escalate this to management immediately. I have lived in this home since 1989 and have been a loyal and regular customer for both dine-in and delivery. NOW I'm being told - first, I'm 2.9 miles away and will be charged an extra $8. Then I was told I'm 3.5 miles away. What kind of nonsense is this? Please see the attached. I was about to place a $40 order and I'm being told the distance has increased and I'm no longer in the delivery area?? Your published radius in 3 miles. I am 2.5-2.8 maximum. Outrageous and so disappointing. image2.png IMG_9969.PNG image0.pngimage1.png Sent from my iPhone

Yelp
I'm always down to try a new Thai restaurant. Thai food is my favorite and Elephant Jumps has been on my radar for a while. I finally decided to go with family and the food was awesome. They didn't have a working dishwasher the night we came so our orders were served on plastic plates with plastic utensils. However, everything still tasted great. I tried the Thai Iced Tea, Thai Dumpling, Golden Triangle, Tom Yum Goong, Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed, Pad See Ew with Chicken, Krapow Prow with Beef, Fried Noodle with Brown Sauce and Chicken, and Mango Sticky Rice.   Everything we ordered was delicious. The standouts to me were the Tom Yum Goong, Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed, and the Pad See Ew with Chicken.   The Tom Yum Goong had a nice balance of flavors and was perfect for a cold night. The Pad See Ew with Chicken was prepared well and had a good sauce and char on the chicken that made it above average compared to most other places I've ordered the dish from.   My favorite of the night was the Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed. So so good. It had a nice crispy texture on the outside while being perfectly cooked and moist on the inside. The dish had so much flavor between the sweet brown sauce and spicy chili. And the dish was 17 dollars. I highly recommend the crispy tilapia if you come here. I can't wait to come back and order it again.

Yelp
This place is a gem. If you are bored of normal Thai restaurants, come here. The Yum Hua Plee salad is unlike anything I've had before. This dish alone can keep this restaurant in business. Get that. You won't regret it. Other stuff I tried was good, but you come here for the Yum Hua Plee.

Yelp
Great food, mixed service. The ladies that worked there were warm, chatty and friendly. They were so welcoming. There was a guy that barely looked at us, slammed our food down and didn't give me a pen to sign the check. It really brought the whole experience. Inside it's small, clean, minimally decorated but with charm. They have a large menu lots of options. We got pancakes to start with a green curry sauce- amazing! Really flavorful, great portion size too. I had a panang curry that was creamy and mild. I would have liked some more spice or condiments on the table to alter to my taste. A little on the expensive side but I would recommend. I'd give it 4 stars for take away ( priced a little too high) 3 stars for in house experience.

Yelp
Came on a whim for lunch since I was next door at UPS store. Got the shrimp pad thai lunch special for $11 and it was pretty satisfying. More than enough food and comes with a small salad and 2 pieces of shrimp crispy flat bread. Would definitely return to try more menu items.

Yelp
Been here many times, but never did a review. Met friends today who work nearby. Good variety of lunch specials - no subs though, even salad vs spring roll - no can do. For the new year diet resolutions, they have an interesting selection of Thai salads. Food was well executed, nothing was a disappointment. Only complaint, there are no curry puffs or glass noodle (mien) on menu - my two Thai favorites.

Yelp
Had Thai iced tea, drunken noodle and Gang Hung Lay (slow cooked pork curry). Slow cooked pork curry with sticky rice was the best dish tonight, it was yummy. Drunken noodle was good but the Thai iced tea was okay.

Yelp
BEST THAI FOOD IN THE AREA! No exaggerations! I tried going to the Thai food market but once I got there the lines were way too long and food was running out so figured I'd go support the local community. So glad I stumbled upon Elephant Jumps! It's absolutely AMAZING! In the corner of a plaza, there's plenty of parking and it's a casual dining spot. We were greeted right away. At first we were going to order some go-to Thai dishes but the manager came by and gave us some recommendations as well as went through the menu. So nice!! We ended up getting the Pad See Ew (he mentioned it had a smoky flavor most here don't have but is common in Thailand), a banana leaf based salad and a pork belly dish. All were absolutely INCREDIBLE! The pad see ew was unlike any I've ever had. It had a distinct smoky flavor with a thick, addicting gravy. We finished the whole dish so quickly. The banana leaf salad was tangy, sweet from the coconut and savory from the shrimp and chicken. The pork belly was also divine. It wasn't oily and melted in your mouth. All in all, THE BEST, go here go here!! I'll be back to try more dishes!

Yelp
The quality of the food has suddenly made a big down turn . What happened ? There was obviously a drastic change during our last visit a few days ago when we ordered the best dish in the menu which is the crispy pork belly ! Even the presentation was totally different . The rice used to be place in a cute bamboo woven cannister. The supposed crispy pork belly was not crispy at all and the cut was too small and served cold! Tne tamarind shrimp soup was pitiful ! The eggplant with tofu was more of Tofu than the eggplant which were only a few pieces buried over rice ! We felt we were changed!!! We asked if the mango sticky rice was available and the female staff did not even give us the courtesy to update us about our query . Hooe thus once great Thai gem will redeem back its glory

Yelp
I had carryout from here once before during the pandemic and wasn't wowed. But I stopped in for a quick lunch after getting a shot at the CVS next door to give it another shot. I had the papaya salad and beef drunken noodles lunch set. Both dishes were the best version I have ever had (and were very spicy, so watch out). Will definitely be back to try more.

Yelp
Was super disappointed in our whole dining experience- service, food, ambiance. This used to be my friend's go-to place for Thai and I always liked it too. I asked a friend and she said she had recently bought takeout but did not have a bad experience. Oh well...It was not the same as I remember. Service was uncoordinated. They would ignore us or both come within minutes to ask the same question. Lots of takeout so there was a steady stream of people. Very busy. There were four tables. The ambiance was missing- all hard surfaces and noise bounces off. Dirty plates not cleared as we ate or even at the end after we paid the bill. All plastic plate and utensils were used. As for the food, equally disappointing. The spring rolls were greasy. Dumplings were cold and hard. Shrimp toast was dry. Lady dancing ok. Chicken satay ok.

Yelp
Elephant Jumps is my new favorite Thai restaurant! And, while it is pretty far from my house, I will make sure that we go there every time we have a hankering for Thai food. The restaurant is in a nondescript strip mall in Falls Church - Aldi grocery store, Walgreens and assorted liquor stores and other places. But, in my opinion, Elephant Jumps is the reason to go here. Spoiler Alert - you do NOT go this restaurant for the decor or the dining room. The decor, such as it is, consists of a few small prints and other items hung on the walls. The dining room is pretty bland. But what it lacks in decoration and charm is MORE than made up when you get your food. I started with the Aroma Chicken Salad. It is pretty unforgettable except for the peanut sauce that comes as a dressing. It is deep and flavorful, thick and slightly sweet. The rest of the salad is lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. Typical salad. It was delicious - just not what I want at a Thai restaurant. Nothing wrong with it - I just chose badly. My main course was Pad See Ew. I always like to try an old standard when I go to a new Thai restaurant. Even though I have had this dish many, many times in the past, this dish was so good and so well done that I felt it was something new, something different, something way better. It was smoky as Pad See Ew is supposed to be, but the flavor was really deep and intense. Divine! It only comes with pork and the pork is beautifully cooked. The background of spices and flavors perfectly balances the luscious meat. They serve the Pad See Ew with a small bowl of vinegar that has hot peppers in it. USE IT!!!! I dabbed the vinegar on the dish and it elevated the flavors to a new level. It sparkled like freshly squeezed lemon juice does to food. Never had I ever had vinegar on Pad See Ew and I wonder why not??? This was simply the best Pad See Ew I have ever had. This dish alone sold me on the quality of this place. My spouse had the coconut chicken spicy soup. Fantastic but very spicy! HIs main course was Shrimp Tamarind - lightly fried shrimp with a delightful spicy, sweet sauce. The service was professional and serious. Our server answered all our questions and even added some side notes about the food. But she never lingered - she was too busy serving everyone. I am not sure when I will go back to Elephant Jumps. I only know that I will be back often. This place is highly recommended!!!!

Yelp
I had high expectations for Elephant Jumps as it was recommended by a friend. The fact that they are doing contact tracing and are using single use utensils and tablecloths, in addition to taking people's temperatures is definitely something to be commended. I think it's also great that they have lunch specials on the weekends. A rare gem! Food 4/5 - We ordered the No. 4 Panang Curry Chicken, No. 8 Pad See Ew Moo Mug and the Banana Blossom Salad. The Panang Curry Chicken was slightly dry and the Pad See Ew was a bit too sweet for my taste. I wish they had brought out the smokiness of the flavors. But the banana blossom salad was the highlight for me, tamer than a Laotian papaya salad but still retaining a bit of funk. Service 4/5 - The service was great as the waitstaff was courteous. Cleanliness 5/5 - For the reasons above, they are doing the best they can in Covid. Ambiance - 3.5/5 - Nothing fancy, but it definitely has a lot of ELEPHANTS that JUMP out in the decor!

Yelp
This place was just meh for me. What we liked: 1. They had an authentic Thai menu 2. The restaurant is nice and clean and the decor is eclectic 3. They have a spice tray you just have to ask for it What we didn't like: 1. The service wasn't attentive at all. The waitress asked us to pay before we even received our dessert and it was 30 mins before closing. She rarely even refilled the hot water for our tea and it was hard to get her attention even tho the restaurant was only 40% occupied 2. beef jerky - doesn't taste like beef jerky it just tasted like overcooked chewy beef without seasoning. The dipping sauce it came with wasn't good either 3. Yum hua plee - the flavors really did not go together. It was oddly sweet 4. Gang hung lay - it wasn't bad it's just there were some very dry parts of the pork that was braised too long. Also it was more of an Indian curry vs Thai curry 5. Crispy pork belly - this isn't crispy it's rather soft but it was tender. It was actually one of their better dishes but still not great and not worth returning for 6. They lean more on the mild side so if you really like spicy food u should order it Thai hot. We tried spicy which is one level below Thai hot and it was lot spicy, I had to use the spice tray to compensate 7. Durian sticky rice dessert is swimming in a watery sauce. It does taste like durian tho 8. Their Thai street ice cream is totally lame. It's basically a few scoops of store bought vanilla ice cream topped with cashews n beans.
