The 10 Best DC Bars & Restaurants With Games

"If you’ve never been mini bowling, stop reading and head to The Eleanor in NoMa right now. The American bar and grill has two lanes that you can reserve for $10 a person for an hour, and you’ll be giggling at how tough it is to bowl tiny pins. This is where your big group of friends can come and hang out and play pinball during the half-priced Happy Hour while you wait for your lane to open up. Sharing food is ideal here, so get the General Tso’s wings, which are crunchy and have a subtle kick, and the corn ribs, which are a fun spin on elote. " - tristiana hinton

I've lived at Elevation for about 9 months and have absolutely loved my experience so far. All of the staff I've encountered - from leasing, to concierge, to maintenance have all been so kind and helpful. The many amenities are well worth the cost, maintenance has responded in a timely manner to all of my requests, the concierges have always greeted me warmly and have been willing to answer any questions or help me get to the right person. The location is great being very metro accessible. It is still an apartment in DC so there's sirens and police often, but that's to be expected honestly. I love that the apartments provide a calendar of events each month for things going on around the city as well as the apartment itself hosting some things! I never have issues with packages being stolen as the front desk holds some if they're not put in the Amazon Hub locker (which i dealt with in a previous apartment). I love that the building is secure so I can feel safe even in a city that isn't the most safe (understatement I know).

Don’t think about it—just sign the lease! I’ve been living at Elevation for two weeks now, and the experience has been absolutely amazing. Sherrod was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process and communicated everything clearly. From maintenance to cleaning staff to concierge, everyone here is friendly and genuinely helpful—it feels like one big family. The building is always clean and well maintained. My only regret? Not signing a longer lease! So far, this has been the best apartment I’ve ever had.

I moved into Elevation on April 18th. It has been smooth sailing since then. The leasing office team has been very helpful and responsive when answering questions. Jada and Sherrod are spectacular! The building is kept clean and the garage always has plenty of parking. The amenities are amazing and there is so much space to work, chill and socialize. The rooftop view is top tier! Another perk is being walking distance to Union Market and two grocery stores. It feels safe here and I look forward to what this new journey will bring.

Have lived here for a year so far and love it! The maintenance team, especially Cleo, are phenomenal, the pool is lovely, packages are always accounted for, and I never hear my neighbors. I will be transferring to another unit in the building and the leasing team has been really helpful, making the process smooth and easy. Thank you to Flo and Sherrod, specifically!

I've been at Elevation for 5 years now. The concierge desk and maintenance staff are great. Very responsive, kind and caring. Special shoutout to Ms. Donna who has been at the concierge desk since I moved in and is always helpful and has a kind word for residents.

Google
I’ve lived at Elevation for two years and it’s been a great place to call home. The staff are super friendly and helpful, especially Donna at the front desk, she’s the best! I really enjoy the amenities, particularly the gym and the pool. Overall, it’s a comfortable, well-run apartment building and I’ve had a really positive experience living here.

I have lived here for about five years. By far the best thing about the building is the team of concierges. They are all kind, smart, and always eager to help. Especially Ms. Donna, whom we all love.

Google
Had a great tour of this building with Sherrod! He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient during the process. I would recommend taking the time to check this building out if you're interested in renting in the area.

Yelp
I did a tour here and the leasing agent was very friendly. The amenities seem top tier, but she let me know they do not advertise they have Affordable Dwelling Units on their website. I think that is pretty shady and implies they only want a certain clientele. After that comment I was totally turned off and didn't move forward with the housing application.

Yelp
A "luxury" apartment with cheap material . All you need is a comfortable place to sleep and enjoy your living but this place got a lot going on . Hallways smell like weed all the time , theft breaking into the parking most of the time and nothing will be done about it there's not security at all . Keep looking around and take your money somewhere else where they will actually care about you and not just your money .

Yelp
A wonderful place to live- especially with the prices skyrocketing around us! Amazing views and sunset either from your apartment or the rooftop! Staff is beyond friendly- will miss them when we move.

Yelp
I hesitated on filing an review. I had such a negative experience with this building. I wanted to write this review until after I had moved into my new building. Here is a list of reasons to avoid this building: * Rude staff * Poor management * Building has a lot of repairs that are not fixed: o Air conditioning, BBQs, the pool closes a lot in the summer to be cleaned because people break glass or let their dogs swim in the pool. Then the dog has an accident in the pool and they have to closed down the pool to clean for a whole week. * Very thin walls so expect to hear lots of loud noises especially barking dogs. * If you have to get up early for work and want a good night's sleep, avoid this building. * Building is not safe at night, there are no lights on in the front of the building. Expect to be accosted by homeless people when walking into the building. * There used to be this awesome dog park next to the building. Bozzuto took that to build an office space. There is constant construction noise next to the apartment. The neighborhood is very loud so not a good place if you have young kids. * The dog park is gone and now people's dogs urinate on the front of the building. I filed a lot of complaints with this building order. I overheard one of the maintenance team call me a "Motherf**ker" who makes him do a lot of extra work. When I moved into the apartment my unit reeked of marijuana and cat urine for three months. I was not compensated for the inconvenience I experienced. I had to file a complaint to the corporate office of Bozzuto. These apartments are not cheap, for how lackadaisical the apartment is managed. One of the main reasons I am left this building is because of the noise. I can hear the Mack trucks driving to the building at 5am on weekdays. The noise from the construction traffic makes it hard to sleep and get up early for work. The dog park is gone and now people's dogs urinate on the front of the building. I have had to complain many times because people leave their dogs on the balcony after they finish having a cigarette. No matter how many times I complained the apartments reek of smoke. The pool area this summer was not run as well as it could have been. People were swimming in the pool at 1am at night, well past quiet hours.

Yelp
Elevation has been a great home for the past few months. I've stayed at many apartment complexes both more and less expensive and this is the best customer service I've ever received. Maintenance comes quickly, the concierge is super friendly and helpful, management answers questions efficiently . The team also throws events with free food on the regular! I'm moving out soon and wanted to make sure I wrote a great review. The noise level isn't that bad and I'm right at the intersection. Oh and anytime I wanted to scan or print something they were very nice and helpful about it. Package pick up is also a breeze. Thank you for your hospitality Elevation!

Yelp
I lived at Elevation for 3 years, just moved out. Pros - New building, new appliances, modern amenities, hardwood flooring. Nice decor all around. Actually even floors. Actually well built. Cabinets and drawers open smoothly, not as if 12 separate gangs of Neanderthals lived in the apartment before you. No antiquated AC system. No random cutouts in the walls. No dead phone/cable/internet jacks/boxes left over from times 'o yore. - Next to the NoMa Redline station. Super convenient. - While I can't speak to every floor, my floor was exceptionally quiet in terms of neighbors the entire time I lived here. The clientele here are mainly young professionals, who are mostly courteous and professional. - Trader Joe's, 3 min walk. Harris Teeter, 5 min. - The staff have always been top-notch in my opinion, very good crew. - W/D in every unit. - FIOS internet, always worked well. - Top pool deck with view of the Washington Monument. If you get a higher northern view you'll have possibly the best view in the city of DC's illegal 4th fireworks shows. Seriously, they're incredible. - Next to the Metro Branch Trail. - PLENTY of resident parking. Lots of spaces in P3. Unassigned parking - which can be a great thing, depending on who your parking neighbors might have been. Unassigned motorcycle parking in whatever in-between unused spaces you can find. - I haven't had a major rent increase the entire time I've been here. Kind of shocking. - Unlike with older buildings, utilities here are submetered per unit, not averaged. So you only pay for what you use, not for what your neighbors use. - Uber/lyft drivers have mostly figured out where this building's front entrance is. Mostly. Be thankful. It was a rough couple of years there. - Union Market, within walking distance, 10 mins. - Adult-sized toilet bowls. Don't know why, but a lot of buildings in the DC area are built with comically child-sized toilets. Not Elevation. - Gym. Not bad. Usually pretty orderly too. I know, shocking. Cons - Being a pet friendly building, & knowing pets can't hold it in forever, & knowing that owners don't always get home in time, there is often animal pee in the elevators and hallways. Just a fact of life living in a pet friendly building. - The neighborhood, while in the process of being "gentrified", is not yet still. Crimes, up to murders, do sometimes happen within blocks (or about a year ago, feet) of the building. - It seems the AC has shared air intakes. Whenever I turned mine on I instantly smelled my neighbor's cooking. - Most of the local establishments cater to working people during work hours. This is the main problem with the area, it's more a business location than a residential neighborhood. - Hot water. There's not a lot of it. Enough for a shower, yes ... but not a long shower. Def not enough for a bath. - Somewhat loud location in terms of street traffic, ambulances, police cars, motorcycle races, etc. - Parking ... (sigh) ... Partially run by Elevation and partially by a parking company. The Elevation part is fine, but the parking company part - which you have to drive through to get to the Elevation part - is not well managed AT ALL. Other - North and east views are VERY good, sunsets over the city, no tall buildings (yet) blocking your view of the city, really beautiful. East view is relatively unobstructed, though the rail yards are your primary view. South views, other than top floors, are of other office buildings. - There's a 24 hour McDonalds nearby, and an open late Wendy's. Filled with people you'd think might frequent these places at odd hours of the morning. Including me, several times, when I was drunk. Also 7-11, 5 Guys, Dominos, Subway, Potbelly, etc. - The Elanore is a nice eatery that's in the first floor of the building. A lot of shops have come and gone from this spot; maybe the Elenore will make it. - The area is weird - between sleepy residential communities, office buildings, and a warehouse district. There's no "city center" around. - Lots of new buildings are being built in the area, commercial and residential, but no parks. I fear this area is going to become rather ugly in the coming years if this trend continues, a random collection of highrises, and not much else; a lot like what Navy Yard is becoming. - Resident parking is not particularly cheap, but is the cheapest in the immediate area. - Every once in a while there's the smell of cannabis. Though supposedly a smoke free building, not every resident abides by this rule. It is DC, after all. - Elevators weren't down much in my experience. Being I lived on the top floor, that was welcome. - H Street, with all its restaurants and social scenes, is a brisk 15 to 20 min walk away. Not close enough to be a Pro yet not far enough away to be a Con. It's there, it's just not near. - Pool. Don't expect to actually be swimming in it. More of a lounging pool. Deck is cool. Sum Building itself - really nice. Local area - meh.

Yelp
**updated review** I have lived at Elevation for around 1.5 months and am generally enjoying it. There are a lot of pros: --The rent is very reasonable compared to similar buildings in this neighborhood. --The building is new, clean, and well-maintained. --The walls and floors are thick, so I can't hear noise from neighboring apartments. --The staff is friendly and reliable, especially Stanley from maintenance and Nigel from the leasing office. --The concierge staff has been very helpful with processing my packages and lending me a bell cart whenever I have bulky ones. --The stainless steel appliances in these units are great. However, I strongly recommend that prospective tenants view the exact unit that they will lease, not a model unit. The building is located next to a busy street and the Amtrak, so some units will have more street noise than others.

Yelp
ticketed my car for parking where they asked me to. Said they would get it dismissed with the cops then didn't. and i pay them a monthly parking fee for this privilege.

Christine J.

Yelp
I've been living in this building for less than a year and have had several problems with other tenants smoking in their units and it being filtered into my apartment. I'm severely allergic to cigarettes and cannot even be in my own apartment without becoming ill. However, according to management, even though it's supposed to be 100% smoke free they cannot guarantee that and their only solution is to put us in a new unit. But it could be a an issue in that unit too. I'm not the one at fault yet I'm the one that has to be inconvenienced, take time off of work to move and am offered no compensation. At this point we've opted to move out all together if we're going to have to go through the moving process. They only deserve a one star because Rudy is awesome.

Yelp
As much as it pains me to give only a one-star, I can't in all good conscience recommend that anyone move into this apartment until they change their "hoteling" policy. I lived here for a year and have been a Bozzuto customer for years - my brand loyalty runs strong! Despite a couple of initial issues upon move in, both Drew (former property manager) and Adanise (regional manager) rose to the occasion, went above and beyond to fix the issues and then gave a consistently excellent level of service over my year there. But about 8 months into my lease, the property started to hotel visitors there and the WHOLE property went downhill. First Drew left. And then the rest of the office staff left. Obviously they weren't happy with the hoteling policy either. The new property manager Deanna is darling, but she was handed a no-win situation. The problem is that Elevation started renting out rooms on booking.com ("Elevation Suite," "Ginosi," "Washington Diamond Apartment," "Washington Waves Apartment," "Washington Cirrus Apartment" -- among others). Leadership blatently lied to residents about it by saying, "We aren't hoteling," or "Oh we are stopping the policy at the end of 2015" (residents were able to make reservations through 2017 on booking.com). Elevation had a SLEW of international visitors -- NONE of whom had been taken through a background check (though residents were required to be vetted), these visitors had full run of all the amenities, were frequently rude and unaware that people actually LIVED in the building, and had no concern for any of the rules for the building. As soon as I could get out of my lease I left. Most of my friends in the building have since vacated too. I am currently in another Bozzuto property that I am really enjoying and that is more "on brand" with Bozzuto standards. Until Elevation stops the hoteling policy do NOT move in.

Yelp
I just moved in here and the place is pretty nice - good amenities and location. I had an issue on move-in because we were promised a kitchen island but didn't get one, but Nigel from the leasing office resolved the situation quickly and professionally. It was great customer service and I am happy to lease from him.

Yelp
Period 05/01/2016 - 12/30/2016 I lived in this apartment for almost 2 years and If it wasnt for my government orders to locate elsewhere temporarily, i would have gladly stayed here. If you love the city living and enjoy all it has to offer- great restaurants, bars, parks and the lifestyle. This is the place to be. Pros: Reasonable Rent comapred to others in the vicinity Prompt conceirge and customer service Dedicated dog park Building Link bullentin board to buy and sale stuff online Comepetive price per sq feet Modern interiors Secured underground parking lot Minutes walk to H street and Union Market Great bike and running trail And last but not the least, our new buiding manager- Sarah Scher. She is very proactive and always willing to help. She consistently put out critical information; frm Dc events, building security, and information that could help with the well being of the tenants. Im grateful to her for helping me with this last minute transition with the government. So all you military and Govt folks, this management is a great example of how they help you with orders and early vacating of the aprtment with a short notice and no Hidden charges! kuddos to the Management and Sarah Scher!! My time here has been absolutely fantastic and once im back in DC, I would gladly move back in again. Thank you Sarah and Bozzuto Management.

Yelp
Many of my original issues (from over a year ago) in this building have been resolved over time and I've come to really love living here. The current staff are all kind and helpful, the apartments are well-priced, and the location is incredibly convenient. To comment on some other issues people are noting-- I've never heard ANY noise from within my unit. And while I do regularly smell pot in the hallways (both on my current floor and my former floor, as I've switched units) and stairwells, I have never smelled it in my apartment so it does not bother me at all. Finally, I also hated the short-term rentals that made the place feel like a hotel, but I have been told they aren't doing it anymore and indeed I haven't seen anyone checking in or out.

Yelp
I have lived here for about two months now and generally really like the building. There are some areas of concern that I have brought up to management a few times, they say they are addressing them 1. This is a non smoking building, this does not stop people from smoking in amenity areas, their apartments, or directly in front of the building in violation of DC law. When I say smoking. I'm referring to cigarettes and marijuana. 2. When I moved in I was unaware the building is used by large groups of college students and seems to be a dorm atmosphere. Not comfortable for today's professional. 3. The building has corporate rentals in it, I'm not sure the amount, but it feels like a hotel at time. I have hope that management will address the concerns, but have little faith as there seems to be a pattern of the same issues if you look at older posts on Yelp. I really hope the pool area is not like it is described in several of the posts. I had hoped to use the pool deck when it becomes nice enough. My advice, I like the location and the building is very nice. If you want a peaceful professionally occupied building, without the hassle of 20' somethings running around like a frat house find another building. Update: corporate rentals are gone....would be 5 star but it's too expensive.

Yelp
It is great place to live in - some times problems happened in the garage gate but overall I love it.

Yelp
Great customer service from concierge! They are always very kind and help. This also goes for the leasing office, and all staff collectively. Also beautiful floor plans, panoramic views, and rooftop. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Nicest leasing staff and concierge!! They made me feel at home and accommodated all my requests. I was even surprised by a few welcome gifts. I feel lucky to live here and look forward to be part of the Elevation family. This place is definitely worth every cent!

Erwin B.

Yelp
If this REVIEW had an option for a O star that's what I would give it. The management team continues to disappoint. Sarah the 20 year old manager not only lacks intelligence but continues to take her little authority she thinks she may have due to her title to another level. Her level of incompetence stands strong and belittles residents character whenever she thinks she's able too. Condescending, lack of social skills and unpleasant are some of the characteristics she embodies. The over night front desk girl is always asleep, unpleasant, and never greets. They may have picked the most antisocial character for this front desk concierge position. Cheers to 3 years of being the worst management company in the district!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I just transferred units to Elevation's 15th floor two-bedroom. The view is unbelievable! We can see the Capitol and the Washington Monument. I used to be a property manager and I've been in the industry for years. With that being said, this community has the best transfer policy I've seen. They made the transition from our old unit to our new unit painless. We had a few maintenance requests for the new unit and they were handled immediately by their tech, Stanley. Stanley's customer service is unbelievable and he made us feel like a priority. We plan to stay here for many years thanks to the outstanding customer service we have received during our lease.

Genevieve H.

Yelp
I've been living at Elevation for about a month so far, and it's made me realize how my previous apartment building was really lacking. It's the simple things that matter to me - having friendly receptionists (Donna is wonderful) and being flexible in ways that other complexes are not. For instance, the fact that we can get sizeable packages delivered without any issue is a huge plus for me since I don't have a car. They're also pretty relaxed and don't harass you with constant emails like some other places. There is construction outside the building, which is sometimes inconvenient for crossing the road, but it doesn't bother me much inside the building (I live on the opposite side of the construction). It's been a great place to live so far, and I hope the good service continues for the foreseeable future!

Yelp
Honestly, love this place! Beautiful, modern luxury building. Helpful and quick staff. Maintenance is on top of things (thanks Aaron). The gym has new, top-of-the-line machines and equipment unlike many apartment gyms. Also, definitely pet-friendly with a dog park and grooming station on site. We're in a 1 bedroom with den that has 2 bathrooms (with two showers)! Amazing for city living. The location is awesome- 1 block from the metro, so close to Union Market, 5 mins to Harris Teeter and Petco Unleashed. So happy to be living here!

Yelp
I love my leasing agent, Brian Quander. He is absolutely phenomenal. Brian has been super responsive and is always diligent to get things done for me. He offers prompt service and is very friendly and knowledgeable. I am very impressed with his follow-through since most agents just want to sell you something and then they disappear. NOT Brian. He went above and beyond during the leasing process to ensure that I got the apartment I wanted and made sure all of my needs/wants with a new home are met. He has the friendliest demeanor and I love calling the Elevation home. It's a beautiful property with friendly staff (spanning Concierge, Cleaning Services, Maintenance and Management). I LOVE the cleaning staff as well. They are always so nice and so friendly! They work so hard to keep the place nice. I can't be happier. I wish I could give a rating higher than 5 stars.

Yelp
I lived here for one year, and it was without a doubt one of the worst places I've ever lived. There were so many things wrong with this place, I don't even know where to begin. When I first moved in, my washer and dryer were not working, so I was forced to do my laundry for a few weeks in an empty apartment that was eleven stories below my apartment. Since then, it snowballed. Things to consider: 1) The common areas are completely unusable. The common areas were completely overrun with TONS of loud, obnoxious people all of the time (99% of whom, I'm assuming, did not even live there), such that other residents could never enjoy them. Loud music, screaming, etc. 2) The pool is like spring break in Cancun. Again, the pool area was unusable because there would be TONS of people (most of whom didn't live there) taking up the entire space. Not only that, these people are blaring loud music, drinking excessively, screaming, and smoking weed. All on the pool deck. Despite multiple complaints from a number of residents, this still continued. 3) There is dog shit and piss everywhere. Literally, the entire front lawn of the building is covered in dog waste. The elevators also were routinely covered in dog piss or dog shit. 4) The elevators. The elevators take about 5-10 minutes to get to whatever floor you are on. This was unbelievably frustrating. There are four elevators, but only 1-2 of them ever work. 5) Weed. Weed smells are everywhere in this building. While this isn't generally a major problem (live and let live, right?), it becomes a problem when the residents next to you and below you are smoking in their apartments. The way the ventilation ducts are constructed in this building takes the weed smoke from the apartment below you and literally dumps it into your apartment. The worst is when they are smoking cigarettes in their apartments. My apartment smelled like cigarettes and weed ALL THE TIME and I never smoked. 6) Crime. I have seen people in the building being escorted out by police in handcuffs. Moreover, D.C. police are ALWAYS parked outside of the building. 7) July 4th. This was one of the worst experiences I had at this building. I invited my family to watch the fireworks from Elevation's rooftop on Independence Day. Lo and behold, the rooftop was filled to capacity with about 100 college students. One particularly large drunk group of people (~30 people) brought a soundsystem to blare extremely explicit songs (again, normally I wouldn't really care, but I had my family there), screaming obnoxiously, and a number of them were smoking weed right there. Not only that, someone started setting off fireworks ON THE ROOF TOP. In case you didn't know, fireworks can be pretty dangerous. To allow people (particularly people who dont even live there) to engage in this behavior (which could have ended very badly) was shocking. This place is terrible. It looks nice, but do not be fooled. You will be miserable here if you are over 23 years old. Elevation will try to lure you in with one or two months of free rent. They could offer me 12 months of free rent, and I wouldn't take it, given how awful this place was. And it's not just me. I talked to a number of other residents in the building who all had the same concerns as me. Save your money and find somewhere else to live. And avoid Lorin. I found him to be super unhelpful and quite condescending.

Yelp
Had the most bizarre experience here when I was looking for a place to live. I love NOMA, and wanted to stay here. Of all the apartment buildings I reviewed online in NOMA, this one seemed to have the least offensive reviews, and overwhelmingly positive experiences. Having never gone on a tour of an apartment building before, I didn't really know what to expect. Because of this, I figured that I should schedule a tour and not just show up. I'm glad that I did. Scheduling a tour via the website was quick and easy, but the experience was not pleasant. I arrived a few minutes early for my tour and called the leasing office from the front desk. Nobody answered, and a resident was kind enough to hold the door for me. I walked over to the concierge desk first, because I did not immediately see the leasing office. There were 3 women standing at the concierge desk and they were in the middle of a "deep" conversation. I had to interrupt them (first offense), and asked where the leasing office was. One responded, and repeated, the leasing office? Yes, the leasing office. Do you have an appointment? Yes, I scheduled a tour (interesting that you're asking me this since there's supposed to be an open house today). What's your name? Tiffany. I'll call now. After getting on the phone and telling them I was there, she hung up. She simply said, she'll be out to get you. No instruction on where to wait or how long it will be. That's fine. I'm not dumb. I'll just take a seat. Short, blonde chick walks out after a few moments. She is neither smiling nor very friendly. I don't want a leasing agent to be my friend, but at least pretend that you understand the importance of first impressions. She quickly introduces herself, asks me if I want some water or some milk and cookies for the open house. I request water, and stand around waiting for some instruction. I don't get any until she returns from the back, and that's when she suggests we sit down. This is when things really take a turn. I won't give you a blow by blow, but what I'll share it this: *The price of rent changes every day. Rent was $50+ cheaper the day before my tour. If you're looking on Craigslist, they'll only honor what's posted on that day. On the day of my tour, the leasing agent claimed that they had posted a new ad that day with a more expensive rate. Not true. Those ads were not posted until 4 pm (my tour was for 3 pm so they didn't go up until afterwards). *They're currently at 94% capacity and they had an open house scheduled for the day that I was there. Apparently, most of the units are occupied. People will be moving out soon, but their units can't be viewed while they're still living there. Understandable. This meant that the agent could only show me 1 unit (I'm not looking for a 2 bedroom) that was within my price range, and it wasn't even the type of unit or size that I would be renting. Why are you having an open house, but you don't have that many units to show? What am I looking at besides the amenities? Are you going to show me the door of a unit that I could live in? *The leasing agent was not helpful. My gut started to tell me at this point during our conversation that I needed to walk away. Intuition is critical. I shared that with her: my experience at the front desk, the lack of units available to see, and just a general sense that I had. She didn't address my concerns at all. Just wanted to know if I was interested in seeing a unit, and if so, I needed my ID. *Bring your government issued ID. I left my ID in my car, which was parked far away. None of the spots outside were for future residents, and I assumed that I couldn't get in the garage without an access card or something. Note: there was also a sign outside the parking garage that said: monthly parking available. I can't remember the name of the company advertising the spaces, but it wasn't Elevation at Gateway. Maybe they sublet some of their spots like The Gale does. Her suggestion regarding my id: go get it and come back. I asked her if she would be willing to work with me (i.e. I had an alternate ID, but didn't specify what), and she told me about their corporate policy. Since it was drizzling, it would have been a long walk to go back and get it. She suggested I come back in a few weeks when there were more units to see. Given her attitude, and lack of response to my preliminary concerns, I wasn't that interested in going through with the tour. So I didn't. I'll pass, and take my money elsewhere. This whole experience makes me wonder: if this is how you treat me as a prospective resident, what would it be like as an actual resident?

Yelp
I've lived in Elevation for 2+ years and enjoy it. I'm also fortunate enough to live in a corner apartment on a very quiet floor. The staff is great and super attentive (especially Aaron who always goes above and beyond). The amenities are nice -- I definitely workout way more often because there's a 24/7 gym here. And I really, really appreciate the front desk package and mail service.

Yelp
I just moved in here, and the place is stunning. Great, modern and well built apartments. Gorgeous pool and rooftop views of the Capitol and Washington monument, very nice, large gym. Lobby area has a great hotel-like vibe, and complimentary morning coffee adds a nice touch. Pool area is well regulated for number of guests and types of gatherings, with wrists bands. My advice for the best views and for noise: The higher up you go, the better the views and noise levels. Also, check the apartment you are renting before you rent it to see what the noise is like. But some noise from passing cars is to be expected in any city apartment, especially in this location. The one very real downside to this community that really destroys any enjoyment of the building is that the management leasing team is completely complacent when residents voice noise concerns. I have had neighbors from both sides of my apartment play extremely loud music, causing my walls to vibrate. This has occurred virtually every weekend since my move. I called and left emails with noise complaints several weekends in a row. I was told that the issue would be resolved, however no penalty against these residents was enforced. In comparison to other apartment communities where a strict noise curfew is set at 10pm, this place pales in comparison, especially considering how much you pay to live here. A better management team is needed to keep residents here happy. I am happy to be leaving.

Yelp
Great apartment, so many great amenities (gym, rooftop pool, lounge). They also have a bunch of get togethers where people can mingle. It definitely feels safe, no one can get into the building or even use the elevators without using a key fab. The only minor thing that I would like is a little bit of a bigger selection for the workout area. There is currently only one squat rack which would be fine but there's no dedicated bench press so people often use the squat rack for bench. One more squat rack or a dedicated bench press station would solve that.

Yelp
I have lived in elevation for about a year now. Unfortunately, I am moving out, but that is because I am currently in a tiny apartment, and I ran out of space. I can't afford to move into a bigger apartment within the building, so I am moving else where. With that being said, this building is pretty great. Really awesome amenities, my friends are always really impressed with the game room and grill patio area. The gym is ok, it has the basics. I wish there were a water cooler. The pool is cool- really crowded in the summer, so it is a little hard to find seating. Some other buildings (really, Avalon at 1st and M, Camden, and Senate Square) have so much larger pool decks, but you know. It's not a deal breaker. Concierge was really rude for a while, I don't even remember his name. But now we have George (I believe is his name) and he is extremely pleasant! I wish we had 24 hour hot chocolate/coffee like other bozzuto buildings have, but again, I am just being spoiled at this point. I do with that the building was more strict about smoking, though. We are a smoke-free community, and my hallway always smells like weed. Also, there are CONSTANTLY people smoking in the garage. It is not even cold anymore, just walk 30 ft away it is not that hard. Anyway, would I suggest moving here? Sure. It is a little awkwardly located, but it is right next to the metro, so you can go wherever you need. The apartments are shaped weird. I think that is probably a con. Mine in particular has a ridiculously small amount of closet space too. I think my biggest in apartment complaint is that the hot water runs out in less than 20 min in the shower.

Yelp
I have been a resident at Elevation in NoMa for almost a year. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with the apartment, management company, and on-site employees. Apartments here are beautiful, modern luxury units, including stainless steel appliances, floor to ceiling windows, and washer/dryer in unit. Beautiful rooftop view with pool, large gym with state-of-the-art equipment, many amenity spaces with WiFi for resident use. Dog park in front of building, grills on two levels, and club room. The entire leasing office team is exceptional. Excellent communication, response, and follow up from Caroline, Taylor, and the rest of the team here. All take the time to get to know each resident, and have been extremely helpful since day one. As I consider my lease renewal, the entire staff has been supportive in finding an apartment (looking for more space) in the building. With my use of the amenity space for company meetings, management and leasing agents have been supportive with planning and scheduling for the use of the lounge/club rooms. I am a big believer that the initial experience with leasing agents / front desk concierge tells a lot about the resident experience at a property. Well done, Elevation. Front desk concierge staff at Elevation is fantastic. While the experience is inconsistent with some of the occasional temp agents, the on-site staff have built relationships with many of the residents, and are extremely helpful. These wonderful ladies (work week Senait & Kelly and weekend Lori) make leaving for work and coming home even better. Front desk package and mail service, dry-cleaning, etc. available on-site as well. The maintenance team at Elevation is extremely responsive, addressing the minimal issues I have had in a timely manner. Bill, Aaron, and Albert take the time to get to know the residents, and have asked in passing if everything is functioning well in my unit. Very impressed. Overall, a fantastic experience here at Elevation. With continued expansion in NoMa and the surrounding area (Union Market, H Street, etc.), this property and its convenience to metro is a great option for those in search for a great apartment in DC!

Yelp
I've lived in Elevation for 1 year and am looking forward to many more. The leasing and management team do their best to accommodate resident's needs while keeping in-line with Bozzuto's corporate goals and requirements. And, to make it even better, the front-desk concierge and maintenance staff are responsive and caring. You can't beat the location and accommodations/amenities. Perfect place for a young or mid-level professional. 4/5 stars only because every place has some room for improvement!

Yelp
If you are a graduate or law student, I think this building works. As a lawyer in my mid-40s, this was a completely unsuitable living space for me, which I should have suspected when I discovered they performed background, but not credit, checks on their tenants. Additionally, if you are a woman living alone, or a group of women, you should know that the building has issues with petty theft and you will need to be a bit more vigilant than one would expect with your property and your person. After a few months, I elected to terminate my lease early. Although I gave 60 days' notice, and detailed several truly reprehensibly incidents that led to my decision to terminate the lease early, Bozzuto charged a penalty (thousands of dollars) for the termination. Pros: Elevation is a beautiful (albeit poorly constructed) building with gorgeous amenities that is very close to the New York Avenue/NoMa train station. Elevation's gym is, hands down, one of the best apartment gyms I have experienced. The building has an ATM (has saved me a few times), restrooms by the fitness facilities, a vending machine and relationships with several dry cleaners that a very good. Cons: While certain staffers are exceptional, overall, I have found the staff to be gossipy and unprofessional. The quality of the staff is exacerbated by the fact that the building also has a high-degree of staff turnover, with solidly performing staff members often being promoted to more prominent properties. Aside from the proximity to the metro, the location leaves a bit to be desired. Other local apartment buildings (i.e., The Flats, Camden and the Gayle) are sit clustered together a few blocks away; while Elevation sits by itself on a block that is a little more deserted, devoid of much to do and still very much in transition. Finally, unless you live above the 10th floor, the street noise is unbearable. When I am on the phone, the person on the other end will hear sirens from the constant flow of emergency vehicles passing by. To give a bit of perspective, I was working from home and, in the middle of a conference call, a colleague yelled out, "Where the hell do you live? In a war zone?!" (So embarrassing.) Unfortunately, the building was not constructed with street noise in mind. Other issues where that they entered my apartment without notice as requested, mistakenly canceled my Pepco account resulting in me being double charged for several months, etc.

Yelp
cons: they rent out units ON A NIGHTLY BASIS. I have never lived in an apartment building that did that. The unit next to mine is being treated like a hotel room and I find that dramatically increases the risk of something happening -- they aren't running checks on these ppl -- who knows who they are? this is my biggest issue with the "luxury" building. it is trying to make a quick buck at your risk. Other cons: maintenance doesn't work on weekends (which honestly is usually when I notice issues in my unit so its frustrating), lots of college/grad students who like to throw parties during the week. thin walls. smells like weed at night. the immediate area is not safe at night. ambulance and police sirens all throughout the evenings. so if you are a light sleeper, use earplugs if you like to have your window open at night. like other reviewers said, you will learn patience here due to the long wait for elevators - there is always one or two not working and it will take you several minutes to get up and downstairs. they have also dramatically increased rents. i moved here with concessions. i would not move here without any deep discount/promotion rate. pros: amenities are nice, particularly the gym and club room. front desk is nice. easy access to metro and trail.

Yelp
So we recently moved out of Elevation after living there for a year and nine months. We were the first residents to move into our floor, so we got to watch the building evolve from the early stages of its occupancy. First, let me start with the positives: -The apartment layouts are very interesting, and the windows, views and patios are pretty great. Our kitchen was small but functional, and we had no problems with the appliances. (Except the dishwasher did not work when we first moved in, but maintenance swapped it out for another unit in an empty apartment and we were fine from then onward.) -The gym is great, the best of any of the large rental buildings we looked at in DC, and we toured around 10 comparable buildings in NoMa and the Navy Yard. -The proximity to the Metro is great - literally one block. -Friendly concierges (Senait, George, Kelly, Lori and Khyra were all standouts) and responsive maintenance team (especially Aaron - he's the best). Now, unfortunately, the problems you won't hear about when touring the building. (That's what Yelp is for, right?) -Cigarette/Marijuana smoking in the building: we had a constant problem with smoking in the building. (The building claims to be a 100% smoke-free environment). For most of the time we lived there, it centered around one problem apartment on our floor. We spent months documenting the incidents and reporting them to management. It seemed for a while like something was getting done. Then, after one of the many staff changes in the management office (losing Katie Gaines was the worst thing to happen to Elevation), things were back to square one. The approach of the then property manager (Drew Wadsworth) was to treat us as if we were fabricating the entire issue. The hallway would obviously reek of marijuana smoke, and leasing office staff, concierges and Drew himself would act as if they could not smell anything. It was ridiculous. I ended up escalating the issue to Bozzuto's corporate office. Once the regional manager and VP got involved, things got done and the tenants in that apartment moved out (but, to another floor to torture some other neighbors). But the manner in which we were treated, the way our complaints were disregarded, and the games that were played are really what made us look elsewhere. -The building is being used as both short-term rental (AirBnB - you can see ads on the site) and/or some time of corporate apartments. We literally have seen people "check in" at the concierge desk and check out two days later. The safety and health issues that come along with this type of transient housing are not something we signed up for, particularly at the rental rates the building charges. And the management office refuses to give a straight answer about it when residents ask questions about it. Is this even legal? -The building is also being used as intern housing for a DC-based international internship program. In the fall, there will literally be a "dorm move in" day, complete with red and black balloons all around the front of the building and moms and dads unloading their minivans to move junior into his dorm room with his 3 other roommates. It's completely ridiculous to do that, and to have zero communication with rent-paying tenants about it. That said, I've never noticed the interns causing any type of a ruckus. They seem overworked and keep to themselves, mostly. However: -There is definitely a frat-house douche-bro problem in the building that will keep you from enjoying the amenity areas, particularly the roof deck during the summer. But I don't think these are actual interns or college kids, but rather 20-something young professionals acting a fool and trying to impress somebody. It's a total headache, and not something folks paying the rents in this building should be subjected to. -There is little-to-no enforcement of the residents/guests wristbands at the pool area, leading to the annoying experiences at the pool deck noted above. And there is almost no enforcement of the smoking ban on the roof deck. I get that the life guards aren't paid to do security, but it's really a problem. -The ridiculous add-on charges: So i get that most buildings in DC charge trash fees (which I find ridiculous). Elevation (and apparently other Bozzuto properties) charges a monthly "administrative fee" of $4.05. I asked multiple people in the leasing office what this charge was for when I first moved in, and I got multiple, completely different responses. After some probing, it was finally explained that it is a per-unit fee to the 'billing' company that generates the (often inaccurate) monthly statements, passed on directly to you, the tenant. We refused to pay it for the first year because it wasn't specifically listed in our lease, and they added the line-item to the renewal lease. If I had more time on my hands, I'd entertain the idea of a class-action lawsuit against Bozzuto about it. -Garage break-ins: happened multiple times.

Yelp
I was one of the first residents to move into this building after it opened and overall I would recommend it to anyone. The concierge staff is excellent always friendly and helpful. Maintenance was always quick to respond to any requests even during off hours. The leasing staff are professional and responsive. The building itself is nice and new, so far well kept. There were a few minor issues early right after the building opened, notably the trash shoots. They have since fixed all those issues and specifically increased trash service so there are no more problems with trash backing up. The area is definitely still in transition. Day times I always felt perfectly safe (the ATF HQ is right across the street so armed guards are just a block from the entrance). The streets are well patrolled by the police they even occasionally park in front of the building entrance. However, there is definitely crime in the area, you see homeless people on the corners and on the way to the metro (only a block away very nice for commutes). The building management recognizes this and they do have some building security. I never felt unsafe or even nervous in my apartment or building common areas. The internal sound proofing is GREAT. I never heard my neighbors making noise with the exception of the apartment above me and that was rarely. The noise from the street is loud though if you are on the New York Ave side. The building is on a major intersection so expect lots of sirens and sometimes horns. I would recommend going with the metro track side of the building if those kinds of noises would bother you. As I said before I would recommend the building to anyone and the staff are a big part of that willingness to recommend.

Yelp
Great maintenance, my man Stanley was prompt and professional with service request and followed up the next day

Yelp
I moved in about two months ago and so far so good minus noise issues. The building management has been easy to work with and I haven't run into any of the issues people have had with the leasing office. I felt mislead with pricing as I was told the initially quoted prices were the previous days pricing and somehow all the units I was looking at were actually $150 more. Otherwise Caroline was amazing to work with while signing my lease and moving in. Building: Love the building! Extremely nice interior decor and lobby area. Dog park. Good gym. Concierge staff are nice and helpful. Public garage with private resident area that has future resident parking as well but free paid vouchers from leasing office ARE NOT ACCEPTED; I was forced to pay by the garage attendant who said they aren't vouchers(?!?!). Excellent pool deck w/gas grills, view of the Capitol and indoor lounge area with TV's (SELLING POINT). MRP and Bozzuto spent their money on these areas! But elsewhere the place looks a little run down. For being open for only a little more than a year, it's disappointing to see the walls scuffed up and hallway wall sconces twisted out of place. Trash chute sometimes is so full there are trash bags hanging out of it or on the floor. The second floor lounge had an obviously broken floor board that I discovered while showing my friends around. Some of the TV controls in the pool lounge and 2nd floor lounge don't work. Hallways need to be vacuumed more often. MRP/Bozzuto has an agreement with The Washington Center to lease out their 2bd/2ba apartments which have been converted into quads (http://Http://www.twc.edu/internships/washington-dc-program/housing). Units tend to be at the end of hallways. The result of this agreement are residents that treat this place like a dorm. I had not been in my apartment for more than a week when I already had to place a noise complaint against my neighbors for talking and playing music so loud at 3:30a on a Monday that I could tell what songs were playing. It was even louder out in the hallway. Thankfully the concierge on duty was able to get them to turn down the music before I called the police, but not without difficulty. Spoke with Resident Manager about it and supposedly a letter was sent reminding them of the noise curfew. No more after-parties recently. It's a huge turn off that I pay far too much for a junior 1 bedroom to live with college kids next door. Other reviews concerning noisy neighbors and college kids are not unfounded. Quiet hours are 11p-6a every day; I'm not sure how they enforce quiet hours with residents that don't have a direct lease with the building. This is apparently known as a party building. Bozzuto & MRP should rethink their agreement with The Washington Center; at the cost of keeping vacancies low in a developing neighborhood, it's hurting the building's reputation. Apartment: AMAZING. I get compliments all the time. I specifically wanted the floor plan of my apartment because it's very utilitarian and the sliding bedroom door!! While 50 sq. feet smaller than my previous apartment, I can actually fit a dining table because the layout makes great use of space. Large closets. Wood-like vinyl floors (looks real enough that I was fooled). Stone bathroom floors and bath tile. White granite countertops. Low end stainless steel appliances from GE. Backsplash in kitchen is the perfect touch. Windows have a noise reduction film that works great especially for those living on the New York Ave side. You can barely hear street noise. True floor to ceiling window wall. Can't really complain about the apartment, EXCEPT the noise. It's not so much that my neighbors are being intentionally noisy, but that there is little, if any, sound insulation. I can easily hear the slightest bang, whenever my neighbors pee (bathroom fan resonates with sound from lower and upper units) or walk upstairs, the TV or loud voices in the units adjacent to me, and recently my downstairs neighbor playing some instrument. I can hear anything outside of the front door quite clearly to the point it freaked out some of friends once because they thought someone was walking in when actually a door was just shut to another unit. Neighborhood: 1 block from NoMA metro station. Harris Teeter is a short walk away. NoMA is up and coming so don't expect too much in the way of bars and restaurants. Union Social downstairs is quite nice for drinks and food. There is also Old Engine 12 a few blocks up on North Capitol St. Union Market is a great place nearby as well (Bidwell, Takorean, Rappahannock, more). Bar and nightlife is on H St, about a 8 min. cab ride. Pros: building amenities, amazing apartment, excellent staff, distance to metro. Cons: interior noise, college kids, better hallway maintenance needed on resident floors. Noise problems are not daily but extremely annoying when they occur. Three stars based ONLY because of the cons.

Yelp
I have lived here for almost one year. Pros-Friendly concierge, lobby and apartments are visually appealing, nice tiny pool and grills, large closets, and only one block to metro. Cons-Irresponsive management and leasing office (many emails haven't been responded too). They cut down the size of our parking garage by two levels which is not only frustrating but embarrassing for Bozutto because the two levels are hardly ever filled with daily and retail parkers. Good luck finding an end spot. Plus, you're still paying $175 with reduced parking and there are plenty of jerks that park in two spaces. There are problems in a few hallways with people smoking pot that haven't been resolved. The street noise is incredibly loud. The pool fountain was broken for a while so I had the noise of running water behind my bed for months all night long. My window was broken for months which also kept me up all night due to a broken park that made noise in the wind. The cheap construction means no screens in the windows so whenever you want fresh air the bugs come in. Flats 130 around the corner has screens and MUCH higher quality finishes, such as slam proof drawers. Elevation has terrible quality cabinets that bounce back open after you close them, and poor storage in the bathrooms. Had to scratch off leftover tile grout myself, and the backsplash under the cabinets is unfinished in my units with lots of grout showing. Energy and water bill is outrageously different every month even if I go away for days or weeks or am more conservative, so good luck having a predictable bill. I live by myself, am never home, and I don't use the air or heat, and I've paid 80 dollars per month for water and 65 bucks for electric. In ONE month!! I feel like they charge the residents for heating up the common areas and hallways. Even if you are gone for a whole month you will still have to pay a big utilities fee. Hot shower water turns ice cold after about 10 minutes in the shower. Rent goes up astronomically after one year if you originally moved in with two months free deal. You also have to repay the 500 amenities fee if you want to renew, so they are just finding more ways to steal money. That's ridiculous. No 24 hour free starbucks coffee like the Flats 130 has. As you can see, the list goes on and on. Gym equipment (specifically ellipticals and bikes) is much crappier than at the Flats and they don't even have water dispensers in the gym. Also, they do a bad job shoveling snow for the cars to get out of the garages (I got stuck once and they had to come help me get out) and they also didn't shovel their sidewalk into the street to get across to the metro. That's just laziness. We either had to get wet and dirty or walk in the middle of the street. I CANNOT wait to move out.

Yelp
I've lived in this apartment complex for almost 6 months now. My honest opinion is that it has the glitz and glamour, but it's not worth the price you pay. The lobby will impressed you, but the inside apartments are cheaply built in my opinion. This place at times feels like a dorm room. We were all young, but some of the young adults living here can be very immature. The staff has always been friendly. When my water heater and A/C broke, in a brand new apartment that no one has lived in before me, maintenance respond quickly and resolved the issues ( Thank you Aaron!). If you have a car BEWARE! there were several cars that were broken into a couple of months ago. The NOMA area is up and coming, but still lingers with a taste of the "hood" in the area. There is no night life in the area, and there are some restaurants are in walking distance. The metro station is directly across the street, but a commute on the red line metro can get crowded during rush hour. My best advice look around, do some research before committing to a lease here it isn't for everyone.

Yelp
I lived at Elevation for a year (May 2015 through May 2016). I only left due to a job reassignment to Atlanta, Georgia. I had great experiences with the staff at Elevation. My first interaction was with my leasing consultant, Homan. Homan was very friendly and professional during my move-in process and thereafter. Apart from Homan, my interactions with personnel in the leasing office were mostly with Lorin (Resident Manager) and Drew (former Property Manager). When I had a recurring issue with my monthly rental billing statement, Drew addressed the issue with me and we came to a mutual agreement on a short term resolution while he stayed on top of the matter with an outside vendor that was in charge of resolving the issue permanently. Back around January/February 2016, I mistakenly underpaid my rent due to a billing error. Lorin contacted me while I was out of town and was courteous enough to wait on me to get back in town to resolve the matter which I promptly did when I got back in town. There were other times when I stopped by Lorin's office unannounced to talk to him and he was just as courteous. To me, the maintenance guys (Aaron and Bill) at Elevation were some cool dudes. They were always very energetic, friendly, and professional. Last, but not the least, I have to acknowledge the excellent job done by the folks at the concierge desk (Senait, George, etc.). I have had occasions when I was out of town for days and I called the concierge desk to get something done for me in my apartment. Senait and George were always very responsive to my requests and even called me back to keep me abreast on the status of my request. For example, during the last "snowmaggedon" in the mid-atlantic area, I was out of town for about a week with my thermostat turned off. I called the concierge desk and spoke to Senait to have my thermostat turned on. Senait coordinated with Bill and promptly addressed my request with a courtesy callback from Senait to update me on the completion of my request. I have read other reviews of the staff who work at Elevation on this website and I strongly believe that some of the criticisms are unfair. Sure, there are imperfections. Show me a perfectly ran residential property with "perfect" staff members, and I'll show you a 30-acre swamp land in the middle of Manhattan. We, as residents, are so quick to want to blame the staff at Elevation for delays whenever our issues are not promptly addressed/resolved when, in fact, delays could have been caused by outside vendors/contractors. As for me, if I ever get reassigned back to D.C., I won't hesitate for a second to move back to Elevation. Sincerely, Larry A.

Yelp
I've lived at Elevation at Washington Gateway since 2014, and had experiences from great to horrible on every possible front. The ups and downs range from dealing with everything possible when it comes to living in an apartment. However, one constant that I could always count on to be outstanding with no exceptions is the lead concierge Senait. She is always pleasant, professional, helpful, etc. I can never recall anytime when I wasn't met with an extremely pleasant good morning accompanied with a smile. The knowledge of the overall landscape of what each and every tenant needs and requires is pinpoint. With packages overflowing to the point she can barely be seen behind them, she never seems overwhelm or flustered. Whenever in doubt seek Senait for assistance she is the Siri of Elevation. Elevation at Washington Gateway may have dropped the ball on too many things to name, they did get one thing right for sure.
