I really hate to give a restaurant a one-star rating because I understand how difficult it is to make it in the food service business. However, Elevation Burgers worked hard to earn the one star.
We had received a coupon in the mail and decided to try them for the first time. We arrived at about 5:20 pm yesterday (Sunday of a holiday weekend). The place was not busy. I ordered a BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger and my wife ordered a Mushroom Swiss burger with horseradish sauce. After almost 20 minutes, when at least two other groups that had ordered after us had been served, I went up to the counter and asked about our status. I was told that somehow, even though our credit card transaction had gone through, our order had not gotten sent to the kitchen by the computer. What?
The clerk was very apologetic and promised that our order would be right out. At this point, I would have expected him to offer something other than an apology, like comping some French fries or a drink or something but no. A few minutes later, our order arrived. My burger was supposed to include caramelized onions but I did not detect any as I ate it. How it was possible for my burger to have the meat very overdone to the point of being crispy on the edges and the cheese not melted at all still escapes me.
When my wife took a bite of her burger, her eyes got really big and her expression turned to shock. She grabbed her drink and took several gulps. Then she opened her burger to find, not a slathering of horseradish sauce, but nearly two tablespoons of grated horseradish that had been piled on the bun. After scraping as much of the horseradish as she could remove off of the bun, my wife, who loves horseradish, said that the burger was barely tolerable. I did notice that there was nearly twice as much horseradish now piled on her plate as there were sliced mushrooms on her burger.
I hope that yesterday was just a bad day for Elevation Burgers, but it was bad enough that I doubt that we will try them again.
