This is more than a fishing lodge, this baby is the real deal! From the minute you arrive you are welcomed into the warm fold of a fabulous team who make this an experience of a lifetime. Happy, passionate and skilled, they take care of your every need. The helicopter fly fishing is world class in some of the most stunning locations with exceptional guides who clearly have a passion for helping you get fish. The food was delicious and beautifully presented at every meal. The wine flowed and was well chosen. We also enjoyed a lovely hot tub after fishing and some great experiences wine tasting and shopping. The rooms are well appointed, beds comfy as. This is one of the best fishing outfits out there made so because of the exceptional team!

This is a wonderful place to fly fish. The food is amazing. The fishing is fantastic with great guides. When we fished there the rain was falling hard and some rivers were blown out but having a dedicated chopper allowed the guides to find us clear fishable water. Chris and Shauna made us feel like family. This place is great for couples with one partner who does not fly fish or hard core fly fishing addicts. We met people who had been going back repeatedly for years. Got into some monsters! Definitely going back as often as possible.

Cedar Lodge is listed as one of the "Top 50 places to fly-fish before you die" and it does not disappoint. New Zealand is a fantastic trout fishing location, but as in any spot unless you are familiar with the waters then you need the local knowledge of a guide. Cedar Lodge takes guiding to a whole new level with heli-fishing - dropping guests into remote access locations to fly-fish in pristine trout streams for the experience of a lifetime. Highly experienced local guides work alongside guide/owner Chris in taking guests to fish daily in magic spots around the area.||The whole experience is very civilised - breakfast around 8am and a briefing according to the weather and best local spots before departing by chopper to maximise time on the streams. Back around 4.30-5pm for pre-dinner drinks, time to refresh and then a lovely communal dinner cooked by a top chef using fresh local produce and accompanied by excellent wines. Guests from around the world get to know each other over conversation and fishing stories, retiring to comfortable rooms and beds before rising to fish another day.||There are only 5-6 rooms which affords an intimate experience, with a beautifully appointed main lodge living and dining area as well as a great outdoor dining area. The property has direct access to the Makarora River, situated at the top of Lakes Hawea and Wanaka, with easy access to a multitude of good fishing spots. Nearby are local hikes and sights such as the beautiful Blue Pools and Haast Pass. ||This family business runs like a well oiled machine. Nothing is too much trouble for the delightful hosts, Chris and Shauna who also own and operate a respected fishing business in their home state of Oregon in the off-season.||||We will be back!||||Location: approx 1 hour from Wanaka (2 hours from Queenstown) in the South Island. Tip: stop at the historic Cardrona hotel on the way for a break.
