Cedar Lodge is listed as one of the "Top 50 places to fly-fish before you die" and it does not disappoint. New Zealand is a fantastic trout fishing location, but as in any spot unless you are familiar with the waters then you need the local knowledge of a guide. Cedar Lodge takes guiding to a whole new level with heli-fishing - dropping guests into remote access locations to fly-fish in pristine trout streams for the experience of a lifetime. Highly experienced local guides work alongside guide/owner Chris in taking guests to fish daily in magic spots around the area.||The whole experience is very civilised - breakfast around 8am and a briefing according to the weather and best local spots before departing by chopper to maximise time on the streams. Back around 4.30-5pm for pre-dinner drinks, time to refresh and then a lovely communal dinner cooked by a top chef using fresh local produce and accompanied by excellent wines. Guests from around the world get to know each other over conversation and fishing stories, retiring to comfortable rooms and beds before rising to fish another day.||There are only 5-6 rooms which affords an intimate experience, with a beautifully appointed main lodge living and dining area as well as a great outdoor dining area. The property has direct access to the Makarora River, situated at the top of Lakes Hawea and Wanaka, with easy access to a multitude of good fishing spots. Nearby are local hikes and sights such as the beautiful Blue Pools and Haast Pass. ||This family business runs like a well oiled machine. Nothing is too much trouble for the delightful hosts, Chris and Shauna who also own and operate a respected fishing business in their home state of Oregon in the off-season.||||We will be back!||||Location: approx 1 hour from Wanaka (2 hours from Queenstown) in the South Island. Tip: stop at the historic Cardrona hotel on the way for a break.
