NYC Restaurant Closings August 2024 | Eater NY

"The storefront closed after operating in Manhattan since 2020 (and four years in Brooklyn before that); owner Elisa Lyew posted on Instagram that “a delicious new chapter is coming.” " - Melissa McCart

New NYC Restaurants That Have Opened During the Coronavirus Pandemic | Eater NY

"I enjoyed the East Village outpost from pastry chef Elisa Lyew that continues the Bushwick shop’s irreverently named, gluten-free confections made with natural sweeteners like apple purée and coconut palm sugar — the banana bread is “dope,” chocolate chip cookies “bangin,’” and triple chocolate chip cookies “spankin’” (Elisa’s words) — with local delivery available below 97th Street and 48-hour pre-orders." - Eater Staff

Google
Amazing delectable and high quality dessert shop! So glad we found a solid dessert place offerings baked goods made without refined sugar!! We got the banana bread, carrot cake, croissant, chocolate cake. Everything tasted wonderful full of flavors and could tell quality ingredients were used (vs. the common pastries out there made with lots of cheap refined sugar) We also had the chagaccino (mocha sweetened with monk fruit, Chaga, oat milk) which was such a yummy and warming drink that's supposed to be good for my cognitive function, energy level, and anti-aging!

Google
Completely delicious, a 5-star establishment. Only showing low rating for lack of accessibility and accessibility transparency. Like many places in the east village, this place is inaccessible. However, at least as of September 2023, it reads accessible on Google Maps, which it’s not. Fortunately the shop is small enough that you can be see and be seen and probably get what you want if you want it. But not accessible and could be easily with a short ramp. If you’re not accessible, you get one star. That’s how I roll 🤷‍♂️ IMAGE DESCRIPTION: the facade of the shop. There’s a step to get in, and the door is closed.

Genuinely some of the best baked goods I've ever had. I could eat 1038484 of their chocolate chip cookies. Please try!

The flourless chocolate cake is Amazing, holy cow. It knocked our socks off! I picked up the 6" for my husband's birthday and he couldn't stop raving about it. Outstanding and the owner is really sweet, she shared some other helpful tips about being GF too. We're going back to try her other treats @

Google
Amazing, gluten free and vegan bakery! Really really delicious and amazing pastries which like strike an amazing balance between not being too sweet just the right amount. I still haven’t had the pleasure to try there croissant, but I have tried pretty much all the rest of their pastries. Oh and the counter person is very nice.

Google
Really enjoyed the apple cider bars and the chagaccino mushroom coffee. The gentlemen at the counter were delightful and made great recommendations. I love that everything is made with organic ingredients and no refined sugar in addition to being dedicated gluten-free (important since I have celiac disease). Prices are reasonable and the location is great.

This place is delicious! If you need a gluten free treat, they've got those in spades! And if you're looking for baked goods that aren't sweetened by regular sugars, they've got those too! Basically, they've got delicious cookies, donuts, brownies and what have you for anyone that will fit their dietary needs. I'm partial to the brownies. Plus they're really nice. Plus the place is really cute.

I was going to give 3 but I took one off cuz of the service. Every time I come here (which isn’t often) the staff is rude and passive aggressive. If I ask questions they act annoyed. I thought it was just me, but seein how the owner responds passive aggressively and snarky to negative reviews, shows me enough. Happened the first time, happened the second. Childish and rude. You don’t know what someone is going through. It’s hard times, we just want dessert. The food, I got the lemon square before, I won’t lie. Phenomenal. Delicious, sweet and tart. Edit: I also got the croissants. I thought maybe it was because there’s no yeast, it wouldn’t be flaky. I was correct. I had them day one at room temp, as suggested: they were very dry, and dense. Lacked flavor. A little too sweet in my opinion, expecting a warm, salty and butter flavor. They reminded me more of those pilsbury “crescents”. I had them the next day warmed up, much better. They pull apart very nicely when warm. Soft, like a croissant should be, a hint of butter but I think it needs more, there’s a flavor missing. Good with some jam. They’re good as a snack, but they’re very small. $5 a croissant, you get 4 small ones. Given the ingredients, it makes sense for the price, just wish they were bigger. I’d give them a 3/5. They’re pretty. Overall, I don’t feel too comfortable in returning because of the customer service, I have not had a warm experience personally twice and I enjoy when I come somewhere and I feel welcome.

Yelp
We went here today on a friends suggestion and I have to say that this tiny place has a great variety of sugar free and very tasty cakes and cookies. Everything is hand made and off well selected ingredients. Also the coffee and cappuccino is very nice. You can eat there or just do take away. I wish I would have this place in my home town. I would be so happy and be a permanent customer. If you are nearby you should definitely go. You will not regret.

Yelp
Came in to pickup a couple of things for my gf friend and the bakery items were so small comparatively to the price. Like the croissant is literally 1/3 the size of a normal croiI got a croissant (weekends only) that looked a little burnt and the mousse cake. I was told to not refrigerate any of their items. The women weren't the friendliest and although I'm not personally gf, I feel like I've had better. My friend really appreciated the croissant even though it wasn't exactly flakey and the chocolate cake was VERY dark chocolate tasting with little sweetness. The mousse part on top was good though!

Yelp
Got the 2/$3 chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious!! Not your typical cc cookie, but layered with different flavors and notes.

Yelp
I tried the carrot cake, and it was just OK. It was a bit dry, and not really carrot-y. It tastes mostly like brown sugar / molasses. I ate maybe half of it before deciding it wasn't worth finishing.

Yelp
Elisa's Love Bites NY: MN: East Village 2021 May Just passed by this little bakery while frolicking around town. This Gluten Free Bakery delivers surprisingly delicious treats for those with dietary restrictions and budget concerns. The Banana Bread was moist and flavorful. The mini chocolate chip cookies had a nice flavor but a little dry so enjoy with one of your favorite milk or milk alternatives. The Heart of Darkness Vegan Chocolate Cake was soft with intense dark chocolate flavor. It's texture was dense and satisfying. It was not too sweet.

Yelp
Owner was at counter. Not the friendliest but not mean either. Baked good were very excellent. Worth a trip

Yelp
One of those strolls that you find a real treasure. And i am THE LAST ONE to care for this hype of gluten free ..... (unless Celiac) Got to say i was impressed . Took the Fig buddies and it was melting in my mouth. Then the very good Banana bread , but the main stage was belong to the Chocolate cake - Definitely up there side by side with other best NYC bakeries, With density , taste and quality . All bites size but can be made at cake size as well. Lovely owner that just open and will use the Love. Girls and guys - hit this place ! worth any schlep!

Yelp
I came over on opening day and the menu selections were great! The banana bread and chocolate chip cookies are fantastic! The chocolate cake is to die for, it comes with a chocolate ganache dollop on top. I am obsessed with the lemon squares and I will be trying the custard next, can't wait to go back. They also serve coffee, chagaccino and bottled drinks. The space is very clean and the staff were very careful to use gloves/masks.

Yelp
EVERYTHING is Gluten Free. I love finding these little gems. Local, woman owned and so amazing! We met Elisa and bought some of her "love bites!" The banana bread and croissant are absolutely delicious! She also had vegan options.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying the person who assisted me was very kind and so I think the service here is great. I had the 2 for $3 chocolate chip cookie and the brownie. In terms of the flavor/taste, the chocolate chip cookies were not really for me. I also think they were quite small in size so I'm not sure if 2 for $3 was a good price in terms of the portion size. The brownie was quite rich so I think it was better overall. I think I was disappointed because on their sign, I just read brownies and chocolate chip cookies and then I had also spoken at length with the salesperson about the options and ingredients. When I had both the brownie AND the chocolate chip cookie, I was surprised to find they both had nuts in them... I think this should have been more clear in the signs/displays or the titles or at least the salesperson could have mentioned it as we discussed the products. I am not allergic or anything but I do not eat nuts so I unfortunately did not enjoy the experience. I think this place is a good consideration for its gluten free and vegan options but I personally have a sweet tooth and prefer something a little different in terms of its flavor profile.

Yelp
Would recommend if you really like health food and health food desserts. Tastes healthy.

Yelp
Love the space, the person who greeted us was awesome. TBH the chocolate cake batch must have been messed up. It tasted like shaving cream. But the cookies were great. Completely gluten free space.

Yelp
Terrible service. Terribly arrogant. Don't order because when you are prevented from picking it up the very day you ordered it, they dispose of it, without compensation! As if they throw out their products the same day they make them, quod non!

Yelp
I go to this place at least once per week and I am super delighted that it has appeared in my neighborhood. Everything is gluten free and the ingredients are super clean. Chocolate cake/brownies . . . it's all incredibly tasty, not too sweet and totally worth it. Really appreciate this place and hope that one day it will be open 7 days a week!

Yelp
One of the best vegan chocolate cupcakes I've ever had - and I don't even like chocolate cake! Elisa was very nice and the store was very cute. Definitely coming back!
