Minorities at Chicago Restaurants Struggle to Find Coronavirus Relief | Eater Chicago

"A Michelin-starred Lincoln Square restaurant whose chef publicly sought a compiled list of Black-owned restaurants to donate to during the pandemic, using her platform to draw attention to how relief and fundraising lists tended to favor well-marketed, North Side establishments while many West and South Side Black and Latinx businesses were repeatedly omitted." - Ashok Selvam

We what year for my uncle 70th birthday! And two of his siblings came from far one from Jackson Hole Wyoming, and San Antonio Texas. The food was good the atmosphere was good the only thing is our server definitely needed some work she was not on point! I had to ask for my glass of Prosecco 3 times before she remembered to bring it to me I asked for an ice water I never got it she was all over the place she kept forgetting people's stuff! Other then that it was nice! At the end of the day we got to spend time with family we haven't seen in a long time and that's all that matters!!

I went in during a private party that filled the restaurant, however, there was still tables open in the bar area, so I sat there. I ordered the Chicken Sonoma 🐔, which, for all intents and purposes is chicken picata. Started with warm rolls and great condiments. Next was a salad with creamy Italian dressing, it was creamy but not really Italian. Next was my Chicken Sonoma which I substituted the linguine for angelhair pasta. Full of capers and artichokes. The lemon wine sauce was very tasty. The only difference between Sonoma and picata was the chicken was cut into small chunks but it was still cooked perfect, I loved it. The service was outstanding, the young lady who waited on me didn't miss a beat, again, outstanding. I highly recommend.

Classy spaces. Excellent dishes, starting off with fresh garlic/olive oil and red pepper pesto with fresh Italian bread. We had clams casino, salad amode nazre which was A-mazing, followed by veal contadina and chicken Gorgonzola. All with friendly staff. Go here!

Google
Long story short we got ghosted by two local restaurants until we came upon this place. It was bustling and looked nice. We were welcomed warmly and seated quickly. We were so glad we went in - the servers were friendly, and the food was delicious! They have a big menu - mostly Italian but some Portuguese dishes too. So if you are looking for a place with a wide variety, this is the place.

Google
This was our first time dining as a family at Elizabeth's. It was a great! For a bustling Saturday night, we received outstanding service. Our server was friendly and attentive. We did not have to ask for refills, grated cheese, etc. which may seem trivial, but it is something that we greatly appreciated. Each of us enjoyed our meals. The fresh rolls came with butter, garlic oil, and a tomato puree for dipping. The choice of soup or salad with the pasta entrees was refreshing. The cream of mushroom soup was amazing. We were looking for a delicious, comforting experience and Elizabeth's did not disappoint!

My family and I had a get together to honor breast cancer awareness month along with our family survivors. This get together meant so much to our family. Issac and Lois worked with us for our time there. They were amazing, professional and super helpful. Thank you both and all of the staff. Our family appreciated all of it.

Google
Went the day after Valentines day. Ordered shrimp scampi. Shrimp was over cooked. Angel hair pasta was ok. But not good enough to take leftovers home. Service was slow. Oh and the biscuits were hard like a rock. The only good thing was the soup. Party in the other room. Made it not a very enjoyable time with all the noise. We will never go back.

Google
I'm in the area on business and eat out daily. I rarely leave reviews, but this place was worth the time and praise. This place is amazing!!! The bread is fresh and made in house daily with tasty garlic and oil dipping sauces. I had the lobster ravioli which was full of flavor. The sauce is made fresh in house with scallops included. All salad dressings are also made in house. I had the balsamic vinaigrette which was perfect. Overall, if you are local and have never been here... Support a great local restaurant and have your taste buds tantalized. If you are here from out of town and are looking for a great meal, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Excellente food and good service. Great size portions for the price. The grilled fish is delicious. We have been many time and were very satisfied

Yelp
Food- Service - ambiance is all excellent! Great spot! We ordered off the Lunch menu and my Chicken cutlet sandwich w/ fries was awesome. The Balsamic dressing on the side salad was so flavorful. My colleague ordered the grilled salmon w/ veggies and he said it was so fresh and had so much flavor.

Yelp
Another new spot discovered with a delightful after work dinner. It was a quiet and nice night. The food was very good. Appetizers delicious first time ordering so unique. Chourizo with shrimp was outstanding. Our main courses came with soup ( mushroom which was great) and salad. my husband's steak was absolutely amazing, very tender and juicy . However I have to take a start off because of my over cooked linguini and clams were so hard to eat., the flavor was good but mushy. Overall we had a good experience. I would oder something else next time.

Yelp
Food on point as usual, servers seemed a little short handed but still were friendly Too cold in the bar - I had to sit in my coat because fabric was so cold and had long johns on top under my sweater Soup of the day - sausage lentil was great !

Wesley M.

Yelp
The good thing about Elizabeth's is that the portions are big but the food is inconsistent. They pre-make their salads and they taste like they've been in the fridge overnight. Get the soups instead The waitstaff is attentive and the drinks are good. We had shrimp scampi (overcooked) and the eggplant parm was not good. Old eggplant with seeds. We didn't eat it! We've had good meals here but the last 2 times were not. Perhaps they were busy with a party?

Yelp
This is my third time going to Elizabeth's and I must say every time I go I have a great time I love their mango sangria , I always get the Louisiana chicken it's my favourite. But this time I got the lobster ravioli ( absolutely delicious ) and the chicken parm ( absolutely delicious... love love love ) . And I love the portion sizes of the food , plenty of food and you are likely to leave with leftovers. I highly recommend and will definitely be back. The staff is amazing and has a nice cozy feel .

Yelp
Four of us arrived on a Tuesday evening at around 5PM with no one else in the dining room until a large party arrived shortly before we were ready to depart. Our server and the kitchen staff made a few mistakes that took away from our overall enjoyment. Most importantly veal Milanese was served to one of us instead of the requested veal Parmesan and it turned out to be mediocre. Secondly, the mussels and clams in my Arroz de Marisco were of inferior quality and overcooked, but the rice and other seafood were considered very good. Also, I requested lemon dressing for my side salad, but was initially served a different dressing. The kitchen was out of the baked stuffed salmon that my wife ordered so she and another guest settled on grilled salmon which turned out to be quite good though each was billed for the baked stuffed salmon. Lastly, our server went missing for an undue amount of time after dropping off our bill. The pluses outweighed the minuses so we will likely return with the hope that we have a different server.

Cenzo P.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoy the menu, great selection, wonderful ambiance, however, the table side manner has been slightly "cold" with one particular server. He does not appear happy, AEB: We came in a party of four, he approached our table and said, "What do you want"?........ I assume he meant either our dinner order, some light conversation or perhaps an appetizer. No smiles No warmth just a blank expression. A real bummer and he was as dry as dry could be with a sour disposition. Food came out quicker than we anticipated and again he was virtually silent in his approach, nevertheless it was absolutely delicious. He placed the check on the table stepped away and proceeded to linger or hover over our table waiting for the cash to appear. This was just a few weeks ago and subsequently we all felt as thou we were intruding on him. We made reservations in advance anticipating a busy evening although it was not. A sad but true story.

Laura M.

Yelp
Lovely waitstaff. Huge portions. Enjoyed the lasagna. Very quiet on a Friday night, probably because we arrived on the late side.

Bob K.

Yelp
We have been to Elizabeth's several times, it our "go to" restaurant. Food is great, value is great, waitstaff is great. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Today's work lunch came from Elizabeth's. I had spaghetti alla puttanesca. When it got here, I opened the lid, instantly got hit by a wall of amazing tomato, olive, and caper infused steam. I've never had the dish before, so why not take a chance? My first bite told me I was in for a ride. A rich, complex umami bomb complimented by a perfectly cooked angel hair. It was like a Shark feeding frenzy. I couldn't stop until it was gone and it wasn't enough (they did give a very good portion). But overall, an amazing job. I'll order from Elizabeth's when I'm not at work as well!

Yelp
The service, ambiance and the foods were ALL outstanding! Drinks were great as well ! Hidden in a smaller strip mall but don't let that deter you! You will be pleased and leave full.

Courtney B.

Yelp
The staff is terrific, the food is plentiful and amazing. If you have a chance to eat in to bar, it is in booths- muffling the noise of the dining room. Highly recommend! Rich, the waiter, is particularly kind and funny.

Yelp
I had sausage with tortellini in a cream sauce. Very tasty. They make there own salads dressings and the side salad was good. Great place for a quiet dinner.

Yelp
In most areas of CT, at least one restaurant serves a wide range of classic Italian dishes including things like chicken parm, chicken piccata, pastas marinara, Alfredo and carbonara, some sort of Francaise, shrimp scampi, etc., but few unexpected things. Let's call them "Every Tastes Restaurants". In Rocky Hill, one of those restaurants is Elizabeth's Bar & Restaurant. I had been there years before, but decided to freshly look at Elizabeth's after seeing good reviews from Yelp pros like Tami C and Dan R. I normally think of these "Every Tastes" Restaurants as Three Star-ish places. They're usually competent, but not spectacular. Once in a while, one flashes a star or so higher. Elizabeth's accomplished that in my recent lunch visit. The outside of the plaza where Elizabeth's is located looks dated, but it's fairly modern and nice inside. Service was attentive, effective and friendly, notwithstanding the fact that I only saw once server in the dining room. I ordered chicken with a Gorgonzola sauce, various vegetables like mushrooms, roasted peppers and spinach and angel hair pasta. The one misstep in the meal was that it came out with penne rather than angel hair. Since it was a work day and I was trying to eat quickly, I didn't say anything about it, but I'm sure they would have fixed it if I spoke up. This dish was better than I expected. The sauce was tasty and rich. It would have benefitted from a touch of sweetness to round out the flavors, but it was still very good. The small chicken pieces were more tender than I normally find in similar restaurants. The vegetables provided nice color and were well executed. Even the grated parm was better than I expect. I also ordered a house salad as a discounted entree add on. The vegetables and light colored Balsamic dressing were good. The complimentary bread and accoutrements were also nice. Four Stars for Elizabeth's. Perhaps more importantly, for now, Elizabeth's has risen to the top of the area Every Tastes Restaurants for me.

Jorge D.

Yelp
Nore and the crew at Elizabeth's are very welcoming. The food is great and ambience is wonderful. We had my daughter's graduation party here and it was perfect. I'll definitely come back.

Yelp
It's about time I review one of our favorite local authentic Italian haunts here in Rocky Hill. It's sophisticated without being stuffy. Old world cooking meets modern ambience. No, it's not trendy hipster cool, but if you want good solid upscale Italian cooking, Portuguese with "Brazilian flair" for family or date night without fuss, this is totally it! We've come back many times and have been impressed with the down to earth, cordial & helpful staff, top quality of the ingredients and wonderful chefs: especially owner chef Paulo DaRocha! Everything is top notch! Tonight the hubby had a hankering for their paella, and we called for a 6:30 reservation. No problem! It's a great date night meal. First off, start with one of their signature drinks. He chose chocolate raspberry martini, I went with classic grey goose cosmo. I'm happy already just a few sips in- All perfection! The sweet waitress gives hubby a taste of the included soup-he didn't like it, so she quickly subbed in minestrone-always terrific. I chose salad-fresh & easy. Now for the main event entreês: house paella and shrimp puttanesca over Angel hair. Check the pics--wOnDeRfUl‼ It's an Italian dining dream come true. Entrées in the $20 range, mix & match with your loved ones. Plenty left over for lunch tomorrow. It's all good here! Desserts are epic from crême brûlée, cheesecake, key lime pie, to sorbet, chocolate desserts...and my fave flan. All well priced, big portions and delicious. You'll go home happy for sure! Check them out, you can thank me later. Happy yelping!

Yelp
Excellent experience and food. I'd recommend the penne ala vodka as it was excellent. Very creamy and good. My friend would also tell you to try the veal parmesan. The staff was great and the price for what you got is very fair. Classy Italian joint all around.

Yelp
It doesn't look much from the outside. In fact it is very easy to miss it. The restaurant sits tucked in this strip mall and you wouldn't know it is there. Italian/Portuguese food that is simple and done right. From pasta to chicken and bacalhau (Cod Fish) to even steaks; Elizabeth's knocks it out of the park every time with great prices and great service!

Yelp
A professional organization I belong to held a planning meeting here on Tuesday, and we were so impressed with the food and service we immediately booked our entire 2021-22 schedule of seven meetings to return to Elizabeth's. Our party of nine started off with some appetizers to share - bruschetta ($9.95), clams casino $11.95 and mushroom ravioli ($9.95). The ravioli was my favorite, it was so good I will order it as entrée next time! The ravioli pasta was perfect, the diced mushroom filling was perfect, but my oh my, was the dark decadent mushroomy elixir of a port wine broth supernaturally great. My entrée was Shrimp and Scallop Pesto ($20.95) and it was amazing. Here's the menu description - "Sauteed shrimp and scallops with sun dried tomatoes tossed in a basil and pesto sauce over fettuccine". The portion size was pretty good, so I brought home half for another day. It was served with a nice dinner salad and complimentary dinner rolls that came with buttery oil and garlic cloves, and a dipping spread. Our server was a gem and handled our table of nine flawlessly. Elizabeth's was a great find.

Yelp
oh my gosh this is my new favorite place. I'm gluten-free (and usually dairy-free) and what most of the reviews say is completely true, about 95% of their menu can be made gluten free. I had calamari piccata, which I've never even heard of, and it was fantastic. I'd go back just for that. My friend's veal francese was perfect. They gave me brazilian cheese bread (GF). And like others said, no upcharge. I had gluten-free veal and eggplant parmesan, which is something I can only find every few years. The portions are stupid huge. So hey Elizabeth's, you're giving away the profit. I'm going to get at least 2 more meals out of my leftovers and I'm a pretty hearty eater. And you could use some decoration in the main room. A little mood lighting. It's not an interesting or cozy space at all. BUT, our waitress was working her tail off and was amazing. We waited a long time for someone to come seat us, but then everything was fast and she could not have been nicer or better. It's really heaven for people like me. You're going to see me a lot every time I'm around. Thank you.

Yelp
There's one thing that takes this from 4 to 5 stars: the value! Stopped in while traveling for work, never even been to Connecticut, heard the Italian and sea food were great. Elizabeth's did not dissapoint! Me and a colleague started with a drink and calamari and they brought us pretty great fresh bread. They allowed us to put the sauces on the side so we could have it two ways. Was a prefect fry, not greasy at all. Sauces were both perfect. One was citrus based with capers and I loved it. The other was a traditional marinara, also great. I had a sea food pasta with lobster cream sauce for dinner, friend had a three meat misto with Alfredo. Both were absolutely fantastic! Our total bill with tip was less than $90 for all that food and drinks! I even had coffee after! We sat on the bar side as we were dressed more casually and had work to discuss. There is a more formal side and I can't think of a better place for a family meal or a date night. Service was fast, excellent recommendations, they allowed us to make changes to dishes and everything was to perfection with a price you just can't beat! Parking was easy too. Huge lot.

Yelp
Our hotel recommended this spot for lunch! It's in a non-description plaza! It wasn't busy and we were greeted as soon as we walked in! We chose to sit at the bar! The bartender/waiter was very friendly and filled us in on what they were out of! We ordered a few IPA's while we reviewed the menu! My wife decided on the RI clam chowder which she LOVED! I had the Cream of Mushroom soup and really enjoyed it! She had the Mussels in a broth (can't remember the dishes name)! She really enjoyed it! I had the chicken Parm sandwich with sweet potato fries!! This was a great surprise find, while we were in town!! If we lived there, we'd be a regulars!

Yelp
food smells and tastes horrible, the tomato sauce is too watery. and why add a garnish on EVERYTHING? it doesn't make the food taste any better and it's just an inconvenience

Yelp
Came here on a busy Saturday night, and sat at the bar since dining room too busy. The bar area was fine, could be updated but comfortable and clean decor. Food was outstanding!! YUM!! Our bartender Loretta was fantastic. And then it all began... It was a freak accident but somehow my friends credit card slipped into their lock box near the register when being rung up and staff was unable to get it out. We figured at the very least she should be comped her $30 portion bc now she has to go home and cancel her credit card which is a total inconvenience. We witnessed them asking their manager who then yelled in front of his staff, which we could hear at the far end of the bar. This manager JOHN told the bartender that SHE, the employee, would have to pay my friends portion and he would not comp the meal. It took ten minutes for him to finally be persuaded to come talk to us- he came out in his baseball cap and T-shirt, claimed to be both the MANAGER and OWNER, and was condescending, rude and DISGUSTING!!! he asked for my friends address so that "if he ever finds the card he can mail it to her." Absolutely, not. That is not safe. My friend, rightfully so, called him out for making his bartender have to cover the $30 and being a jerk to his staff. We said we will never come back to which he put his hands up which implied he did not even care. *Of course we got cash together and paid for my friends portion bc the bartender was nothing but kind and sweet and now this ACCIDENT caused such a scene. Later that night my friend called and asked to speak to the owner, which John claimed to be- said "he no longer needs to talk to her about this" and HUNG UP THE PHONE. **WE WILL NEVER COME BACK HERE!! ** No one seemed effected by his terrible disgusting behavior which shows he is constantly a jerk to his employees. And clearly to his customers. Never even once apologized for the inconvenience that my friend now has to cancel her only credit card and all the stress that comes with that. His customer service skills are abysmal- unprofessional, uncaring. This was a horrible end of our otherwise great experience.

Jaxon D.

Yelp
Food was outstanding, service was immaculate, calm, cozy, and spacious which in my books is a 9/10 because I haven't found the perfect place yet for my 10/10 spot

Jim K.

Yelp
OK, this has been a go to restaurant for my wife and I for years. Food has been very good and an excellent value. Recent problems have to do with their concept of hospitality. Requests for another table have been refused even though tables are available. Requests for separate checks for two couples are denied. We have dined happily for years there without these policies, but no more. Too many other more customer oriented options are available.

Yelp
Elizabeth's food and service is top notch. Everything I've ordered has been so delicious. Perfect atmosphere and noise level. Bonus if you're gluten free you HAVE to go to the Rocky Hill location anything on the menu can be made gluten free (they even have gluten free bread rolls!). Servers are very knowledgeable about GF needs. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
Don't let the strip mall fool you, this is a fantastic restaurant that you will be happy you discovered. The fancy restaurant across the street is good, but Elizabeth's is great!! First off, it's beautiful inside. The wine list is extensive and beyond reasonably priced. Warm bread served with garlic oil, roasted red pepper purée and butter. The fried calamari is light and perfectly crispy, with a hot marinara as it should be. Hubby had the veal saltimbocca and I had the paella, both of which were out of this world. This is the first meal I've had in a long time that I didn't have to ask for salt. Everything was seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly. I highly recommend you try it out.

Jeanette K.

Yelp
I celebrated my husband's 70th birthday party at Elizabeth's with 58 people attending. The food was spectacular as well as the service. Isac, John and Lois did a wonderful job setting up the room, serving our guests and making the occasion so special!
google avatar

Candie G.

Yelp
I was here with a group of friends and there is plenty of seating and it's quiet enough to have a conversation. There is a bar as well. Food is standard American fare. If you like cheesy pizza, then you will like their pizza, and it is thick crusted as well. Most of my friends got salads and did not have any complaints.

Suzanne F.

Yelp
Service was excellent & my friends enjoyed their food but DO NOT ORDER THE MUSHROOM RAVIOLI! Sauce tasted burnt & the mushrooms were undercooked & chewy
google avatar

Yelp
Yelp did it again! Found this restaurant on yelp with great reviews and had to try it out since it was only a couple of miles from where we was visiting. Started with the escargot scampi which is prepared San snail shells and was very enjoyable. And also ordered the mixed seafood in saffron cream sauce. Both dishes had plenty of sauce and broth for dipping the rolls. The chicken, mozzarella and tomato salad was a huge salad. The seafood pasta was a good choice as well. I had the spicy Italian sausage with broccoli rabe prepared with fettuccine. The pasta is homemade fresh pasta with excellent texture. The portions are spot on and our waiter Tom was both attentive and humorous. If an older gentleman he's got plenty of spunk! Definitely a must try.
google avatar

Rosanna G.

Yelp
My husband and I were craving seafood and decided to try Elizabeth's. We drive by it all the time and from the outside it never looked too inviting, but friends of ours rave about it all the time so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the seafood paella and my husband ordered the Gorgonzola pasta. We got their fried calamari for an appetizer. Let me say that the paella was amazing! It was a huge portion so I actually split it into two and saved half for a large lunch the next day. The seafood was plentiful and looked and tasted fresh. The rice had a wonderful flavor to it. I really can't wait to order this dish again. My husband wasn't crazy about his dish but I think it's because he got something he never tried before and was expecting something different. The Gorgonzola was a bit overwhelming. The fried calamari was probably some of the best we've ever had! Both dishes came with rolls (not great) and salads (bit plain). All in all we would definitely go there again. There is a large variety on their menu to try from and did I mention their paella is amazing? Dropped one star for line at pickup and subpar rolls and salads. Otherwise great place to get some good local eats.

Yelp
Food here was very good. Entrees were served with a choice of soup or salad and there were actually 3 soup options. I opted for the salad though, which was very fresh with the lovely balsamic vinaigrette that I chose. A basket of rolls were also brought to the table. The 2 pieces of sole were huge! So much so that my accompanying starch and vegetable was served on a separate plate. The fish was in a very mild lemon sauce, which was very tasty and it was perfectly cooked. Both the garlic mashed potatoes and the vegetable combo were also very good. I took away a star because of pace of service. We waited for someone to show up at the host stand for someone to seat us for a bit nd then once seated it was quite a while before a server came over. It was even longer before water glasses were filled. However, the pace definitely picked up to almost a rush to clear our plates when entrees were served. It wasn't like they needed our table to vacate, so it was a bit odd. All in all, it was a good meal that my friends and I enjoyed and the best part was that we finally were able to see each other again after far too long.

Abby R.

Yelp
My first experience at Elizabeth's may have been one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant in general. I went to this restaurant to take my parents out to dinner for the first time in months because they told me the food was good (they had gotten takeout, they've never dined in). We usually prefer sitting at the bar but there were no seats. There was a table in the bar area which we decided would work for us. Once we sat, there were waters already on the table so they had that going for them. About 15 minutes since we sat, a woman came over to us to clear off the extra place settings so they weren't in our way. She said that someone would come take our drink order shortly... 20 minutes later, we see a disheveled looking waiter come into the bar area and check on some of the other tables (he must have taken a break or something!) and when he saw us he looked surprised that he even had a table. Now I was a server for almost 8 years so I can understand being busy and not having time to check on tables but this guy seemed to appear out of no where after we had been sitting at least 35 minutes by this point. Besides the fact that it took forever for him to get to us (even just for drinks), when he eventually took our order it was like a rapid-fire interaction that he was trying to get through as quick as possible. He was moving so fast that once we said our drinks, he almost walked away without realizing we wanted to put our food order in (we had plenty of time to look at the menu afterall). So this server takes our order and we assume everything would be smooth sailing from there... Until it reached another 20 minutes of waiting without anything but water on the table. At this point, we had been sitting here for almost a full hour. I can honestly say that I have never gotten up and just walked out of a restaurant because of the service and unfortunately, because of the service (or lack thereof) we ultimately got up and left because we were sitting for an hour with no drinks, no pleasantries, no service. My dad did have some choice words for the server and a woman who I assume was a manager or owner. As a former server, this was regrettably the worst restaurant experience I have had and I will never step foot in this place again. We ended up going across the street to Denovellis and ended up having appetizers, a full meal and about 2 rounds of drinks all within an hour and 15 minutes. What a difference!

Sara Z.

Yelp
I typically don't write reviews, but I feel compelled to after my recent experience here. I made a reservation for a family celebration for 11 people about 6-8 weeks prior to the event. The person I had spoken to, Isaac (I believe was the manager) was very accommodating. The weekend we had our reservation booked happened to be a busy weekend for graduations, confirmations, etc. I had called the morning of the event & spoke to Isaac again to confirm our reservation. At this time, he was extremely apologetic & had informed me that the owner had moved our party to the bar area, and reassured me that it was not a decision he would have made as the manager, however he had no say in the matter. Our table was moved because "larger" parties were accommodated, even though they had booked after us. I asked him if he could have the owner call me back. About an hour or so later, the owner, John, called me back. I politely shared my concerns & frustration. I informed him that we booked several weeks in advance & we had older relatives in our party that wouldn't be able to hear or see well in the loud, dark bar area, and we preferred to be in the main dining room. If we had known, we would have chosen a different venue at that time. He didn't want to hear my concerns, and just spoke over me. He continued to justify his decision and why the bar area was sufficient. He told us we didn't have to eat there & we could choose a different restaurant (keep in mind this was 3 hours before our reservation on a busy weekend). My husband also spoke to him, and when he calmly stated that he didn't appreciate John talking over him and not allowing him to speak, he hung up on my husband. When we arrived, the atmosphere & space we were put in was worse than I could have imagined. It was so small, family members were at the end/corner of the table with no space to eat. If someone had to use the restroom, the entire table had to get up to let them through the enclosed area. Furthermore, there were extra stored tables & overturned stacked chairs surrounding us. It was deplorable. Our table service was great, and the staff (manager, waiter, bartender) were extremely apologetic & understanding, informing us "this is the way the owner deals with customers". When our dinner was over, we asked twice if we could speak to the owner. After about 15 minutes, John came out with a defensive attitude (no apologies, no acknowledgment of the situation). My husband again expressed our disappointment in the situation & poor customer service on the owner's part, and he told my husband he'd "take care of him outside" if he wanted. We were appalled & disgusted at his incompetence, rudeness, ignorance & complete lack of professionalism. I have never been treated like this by an owner of an establishment before. We will NEVER be back again. As far as the food, the French Onion soup was very good - the rest is mediocre. Good luck Elizabeth's...you're going to need it.

Yelp
Delicious food and cozy but nice atmosphere! The Chicken a la vodka was so tasty. Would definitely get again. The cream of mushroom soup was very flavorful (strong mushroom taste for those who like mushrooms like me) and was more on the watery side - but very good. I also got the chocolate fudge cake - it's alllll fudge and so good look forward to going back!

Yelp
Been there several times, one of our favorites. The food is always delicious and there is a wide selection on the menus. Whether you go for Italian or Portuguese, you can't go wrong. The service is attentive, without being overbearing. The dining area is quite large, white tablecloth dining always a pleasure. Only one drawback is if there is a large party, it can get rather noisy.

Yelp
Very nice place for dinner. It's larger than it looks from the outside. It's got a modern and somewhat classy feel to the decor, but warm and inviting at the same time. We started with drinks, beer and a very generous serving of wine, definitely not a skimpy serving (and a very reasonable price)! We started with fried calamari (as we often do) which had a nice light batter, and tasty so fresh, not chewy or dry. It came with a nice marinara sauce. Next, a nice size mixed greens salad, and a cup of New England clam chowder which was ok, very buttery and soupy, not too creamy. Our meals - Churrasco A Portuguesa steak which was cooked to perfection and came with 4 or 5 grilled shrimp in a port wine sauce with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. It was very good, flavorful. Next was the Shrimp and Scallop Pesto but instead of linguini, it was ordered with broccoli. It was excellent, lots of flavor. At home we are very low sodium, so the saltiness was apparent to us, but not overpowering. We were happy with our choice for dinner tonight.

Yelp
I was getting hangry last Friday and did not want to cook or drive very far. So after consulting Yelp, I decided on coming here since it's only a mile down the road from my house. Elizabeth's has a cute dining area, and it's very personal and cozy. I wasn't really a fan of the rolls, they were pretty hard and I was afraid of breaking a tooth on them, which was kind of disappointing, considering how hungry I was. The side salad was pretty standard, but the creamy Italian dressing was a solid 9/10 as far as dressings go. I ordered the grilled chicken for dinner and WOW what a portion. It literally lasted me 3 whole meals, so I feel like I got my $18. In addition, the vegetable medley that came with the chicken was delicious, as well as the garlic mashed potatoes. Really the only thing I didn't like was the bread. :)

Yelp
Excellent food. Its a gem of a place in an unexpected location. Salads, pasta, fish every was well done. Ministrone and mushroom soup was really authentic. Service is great. Ambiance is neat.

Yelp
We tried to come in for dinner last night at 5:30 there were no other people waiting, we were only a party of 2 and the hostess told us "NO". A good restaurant should never fill the entire seating with reservations. At minimum one table per section should be left open for walk ins. Additionally the hostess was not even courteous, in fact she was rather rude. This was the Rocky Hill Location.

Yelp
Don't let the strip mall location or exterior keep you from trying Elizabeth's. The meal was excellent! We started with red sangria and the delicious bruschetta, the bread was crunchy on the edges but soft in the middle, topped with fresh diced tomatoes with just the right amount of cheese. The salad was crisp and the minestrone was the best I've ever had. Lobster ravioli in creamy sauce had about a dozen scallops. The combination of flavors was exquisite. Portuguese Sole with red potatoes was very good and the vegetables were cooked al dente, just the way we like them. Portions were huge and service was spot on. The bar area has a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The dining room has a more formal ambiance. All COVID protocols were in place. We will definitely return to Elizabeth's.

Yelp
We tried to go for dinner tonight. We stood at the front door for about 5 minutes until someone finally came by even though we were looked at a couple of times. When the woman finally came over, we were told that they were short staffed and they wouldn't be able to accommodate us. We asked if there was a wait, she said it would be about 10 mins but we should just try again another time. She said had to take care of the customers already seated. I have never had an experience like this before and it was the strangest thing. Waiting 10 mins would not have been a big deal even with our kids in tow. But I am going to take a wild guess and say it was because we were all Asian and she just didn't want to serve us. Only leaving 1 star to leave this review but they get no stars from me.

Yelp
Please don't drive by Rocky Hill, CT without stopping to eat at Elizabeth's. Everything we ate was absolutely divine!
