The Best Vegetarian Restaurants In DC - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Formerly Elizabeth’s Gone Raw, this fine dining favorite is now simply Elizabeth’s. The menu is no longer exclusively raw and vegan—just vegan—but that hasn’t diminished the unique vibe of the place. Housed in a Federalist townhouse down the street from Thomas Circle, Elizabeth’s only serves dinner Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and reservations are a must. It’s a prix fixe play at $110 per person for a six-course tasting, so if you’ve got indecisive diners in your group, they won't be able to slow things down waffling over the menu. Dishes rotate seasonally; one recent highlight for us was the Pacific Connection, a sinfully succulent blend of okinawa purple potato, loroco flowers, and aleppo spiced caviar." - tristiana hinton, madeline weinfield

The Best Tasting Menus In DC

"If you’re looking for the ultimate vegan tasting menu (and one of the cheaper options), head to Elizabeth’s. The small downtown restaurant has tables covered in every fork, knife, spoon, and glass you can imagine (a whirlwind for those of us who skipped our time with Emily Post). Jazz and neosoul music play in the dining room that’s dimly lit by candle sconces hung between gold-framed paintings reminiscent of Goya and Renior. The $110 menu rotates seasonally, but expect dishes like the fiery kale chips that you’ll want to snack on all night and some of our favorite caviar in the city—which is actually drops of algae served with a delicious cashew crème fraiche." - tristiana hinton

Iliana Regan Forages for Borowki Mushrooms | Eater

How the Chicago Chef Iliana Regan Cooked Fanfiction | Eater

"Chef Iliana Regan built a small Lincoln Square tasting-room that married obsessive fandom and regional foraging into theatrical, story-driven multi-course dinners: each course was introduced with its textual source or scene and translated into dishes that drew on Great Lakes ingredients and small-scale producers. The room’s whimsical decor and props reinforced the narrative framing, and menus ranged from Game of Thrones and Twin Peaks to fairy-tale and ’80s–Nintendo themes; pre-pandemic ticketing was often modestly priced via a mailing list. The work reframed fine dining as participatory storytelling—part culinary research, part fanfiction—and, after a pandemic-era exit, the project was handed to new operators who planned to retain some of the visual markers while evolving the food and service." - Rachel P. From two non-vegans… we were blown away. Truly a wonderful tasting menu, we loved every single dish (and everything was gorgeous!) The wine and non-alcoholic pairings were also excellent and they were able to accommodate a gluten-free diet (one of the best gf rolls I’ve ever had). The presentation and attention to detail was simply inspiring. We cannot wait to come back, everyone I mean EVERYONE should try this restaurant, such a special experience!

I love coming to Elizabeth’s every year for my birthday and each experience is better than the last! The dishes are unique, well curated, seasonal, and incredibly delicious. The service is excellent with each course being thoroughly explained and served at the perfect pace. Our server, Spencer, was a delight to have and made our evening thoroughly enjoyable. Elizabeth’s is a must if you’d like a unique Vegan dining experience that is hands down one of the best pre-fixe dinners in D.C..

We made a reservation a month in advance, intending to celebrate Valentine's Day. However, due to high demand, the restaurant was fully booked on February 14th, so we opted to dine the following day, February 15th. The venue is charming, featuring a bar at the entrance and a dining area on the upper floor. The service was attentive and friendly. Among the dishes we tried, the "vegan caviar" stood out for its flavor; undoubtedly, the most memorable part of the evening. It's worth noting that this appetizer is charged separately from the tasting menu. Other dishes, such as the "fermented fennel seed sausage with lime truffle cream" and the "beet tartare," were also enjoyable, though they didn't quite amaze us considering their price. As for the remaining dishes, they didn't leave a lasting impression. Personally, not being a fan of mushrooms, I prefer not to comment on that particular dish. I find the prices to be high compared to the culinary experience offered. It was especially disappointing to pay $17 for a mocktail; I understand we're in Washington D.C., but I expected quality commensurate with the price. In total, for two tasting menus, a glass of champagne, a non-alcoholic wine, and two mocktails, plus tip, the bill amounted to $440. In summary, while the ambiance and service were satisfactory, the food and beverage quality did not meet our expectations relative to the cost.

Google
Incredible experience for vegans and non vegans alike. Every dish was an experience with deep flavor profiles and well thought out progression. We decided against the wine pairing and opted instead to create our own cocktail pairing throughout dinner. Top notch. My only feedback - I’d wished for a more in depth description of the why and how behind our courses. The wait staff did a great explaining what we were having, but to take the experience up a notch, I’d love to hear about why the specific plates are chosen, where ingredients are sourced, and how the dish is uniquely envisioned. I’ve had a similar experience at other fine dining establishments, and it really elevates the evening. Otherwise, this was an incredible choice for a special occasion. I would absolutely return.

Google
Elizabeth’s offers a fine dining vegan experience that is both elegant and whimsical. Stepping inside feels like traveling back in time to a Victorian-era parlor. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between old-world charm and modern luxury, immediately setting the stage for a special dining experience. The menu is visually impressive with a sense of innovation, and the vegan caviar is the star of the evening. While the presentation is beautiful and the ambiance exudes grandeur, the dishes themselves fall short of being truly memorable. None of the flavors stood out in a way that would leave a lasting impression once the meal was over. The experience, more than the food, is what seems to carry the weight here. While price isn’t necessarily the issue, it’s hard to justify the premium when the dishes don’t rise to the occasion.

The entire experience was incredible!! I've now been here a couple of times. We met Elizabeth, the owner, who was very sweet, professional, and busy on the floor, working alongside her staff. The hostess was very sweet. The server was very courteous and knowledgeable about the fine details of each course, which topped the whole experience. The set menu was paired really well. The kale chips and the cheese board were phenomenal (not part of the fixed menu). Every course is phenomenal...an absolute delight! The most recent visit we had, we did a pairing with the non alcoholic drinks, and it was simply next level!! We were very happy and stuffed by the time we were leaving. Thank you, Elizabeth and everyone there, for creating something beautiful for us to experience.

Google
We were in town for only 2 nights and looking for a unique vegetarian or vegan dinner. Got reservations online for 2, arrived early at 6:50 and sat immediately. Very formal English dining room feel, nice, cozy and lots of wood. The server, she was great. Knew the menu and helped us through, then became scarce. The concept is a fixed menu of 4 courses, with optional appetizer and dessert course - we did both, for 6 courses. Also got the non-alcoholic pair (don’t ask). Each course was created uniquely by the chef. Plated and served like a piece of art, and all wonderfully tasty. Overall, a very memorable evening, better by far than we expected. Took almost 3 hours for us, as we were savoring every bite.

In my humble opinion

Google
My wife and I came from Florida - both vegan, one gluten free - and dined with two local relatives - both carnivores, one seriously so who is also gluten free. The experience was excellent from start to finish for all of us. A unique and singular dining experience, especially in the world of vegan cuisine. The fine attention to detail began before I ever left Florida, with Elizabeth phoning me personally to answer a question I'd left on their answering machine. I will be honest and say that - although they do an exceptional job at explaining each meal and answering any questions - I could not explain to you what I ate beyond saying that each course was fantastic. The subtle mixing of flavors and textures, the creative plating, the complimentary dishes - even with food that I had a frame of reference for, like ravioli...truthfully, I do not know how one ever reaches such levels of expertise, craftsmanship, and skill to even imagine and conceptualize such dishes, much less execute them so successfully. Our taste buds were singing and dancing through all six courses. One person in our party got the paired wine tasting and we were all impressed with sommelier Michael Markarian's fine palate and the obvious joy with which he presented each coupling. The pricing seems a little high ($105 per plate) until you get there and realize all that you are getting and the atmosphere and professionalism in which it is being served; trust me, it's a bargain! Knowing that the menu is constantly changing, I look forward to returning to Elizabeth's on my next visit to D.C.

Yelp
I stupidly went here the day before departing for a cruise which basically ruined my dining experience for the next week. All jokes aside, this was an inventive, and more important, fantastic meal. I've been to several acclaimed high-end vegan establishments and this one hangs with the best of them. The meal took a little over 2 hours. Every dish was explained, presented nicely and there was just a wonderful array of textures, temperatures, tastes and smells. Most dishes were plated distinctly as well which was a nice touch. I also had the best mocktail I've ever tried. Actually worth the price in my opinion. The interior and exterior of the building is elegant. Service is excellent. I consider the whole experience to be very thoughtful. On the only neutral note, I will say I'm not one to dress up and even wearing a collared shirt I still felt a bit dressed down. I was also not a huge fan of the current entree dish which is a large mushroom ravioli. I didn't take a picture of it either as it doesn't present the best. It was good though. All in all I'm definitely interested in returning when there's a fresh menu!

Yelp
My boyfriend surprised me with reservations here in July, and this place makes you feel like a VIP for sure. Walked on, pleasantly greeted by the hostess, we decided to have one pree dinner drink at the bar, which they politely carried to our table on a tray so.we could finish at dinner. The food and presentation were A1! They were do coordinated with placing plates on the table, and just the whole routine. The food is damn good...we are both plant eaters, and food lovers for sure, these meals had quality flavor...there were times where we had to tell ourselves (and each other) to slow down but it was just good! And we left full! I know these pics aren't the greatest, but tbh, this is such an experience, that you just don't want to be bothered with your phone. The staf are personable (they call you by your name and welcome you as if the tablecloth was brought just for you). I highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
Everything about our evening was amazing! The physical restaurant lends to quiet intimacy, loved the actual building! The service was exceptional, all servers and staff were friendly, and clearly loved their job and the food! Every dish we had was decadent! The servers described each dish with great detail which added to our enjoyment. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
We were greated by Elizabeth, the lovely proprietress, who engaged with us about veganism as she mopped up snow drips from the floor while apologizing. The food was complex, the dining room serene, the server --Spencer-- knowledge, considerate, and accommodating. My favorites from the tasting menu were the faux lox --I don't like real lox and this was a spicy treat--and the squash soup. They make delightful cocktails. I had dandelion tea for the first time that tastes like coffee (and no caffeine!) and had a surprisingly decadent and refreshing pistachio cream. The menu changes every 2 1/2 months. The food is so rich and complicated that I can't see going back more often than that anyway. I was celebrating a book deal, and it was the perfect place to do that. Thanks to all!

Yelp
The environment couldn't be warmer in this three-story converted brownstone with the restaurant taking up the first two floors and I'm assuming the owners quarters are on the third floor. We were greeted by Elizabeth who introduced us to our table and server. The food at this vegan restaurant is exquisite, and the menu is exceptionally well designed. Each course built up and created an excitement for what I expected to be the final main course which was described on the menu as a red wine, braised trumpet mushroom dish with sauce and a compliments. I was so looking forward to seeing Mushrooms hole in pieces in my plate and was so disappointed when what arrived was a mushroom ravioli or the parlance of Elizabeth's a raviola. How disappointing to bite into the average pasta and stuffing that certainly did not reflect the beauty of the cooking in the other courses that we had. So the finale was very very disappointing. And then the bill came, which was exceedingly expensive. Had it not been for that Exorbitant cost I might've considered going back. All in all big errors.

Yelp
Festive meal to celebrate my daughters birthday. Tasting menu was great and we added the vegan caviar to start - it was delicious. The melon sorbet with volcanic salt was sublime. Delicious nonalcoholic drink options.

Yelp
This is a very nice restaurant, a lovely dining experience, I'm not a vegan but the food was delicious and you don't need to be vegan to enjoy the experience. The staff was amazing, very knowledgeable when explaining what they are about to serve you. The artwork on the walls are beautiful! I always like to see the bathroom and they were on point too! I highly recommend this place, it's perfect for a date night or any special occasion. My favorite plate was the caviar! Elizabeth you know what you're doing girl!

Yelp
More than just dinner, truly a vegan experience. Each course is served separately and comes with in depth explanation of all the fine ingredients that make it up. The ingredients come from far and wide to make some truly impressive and tasty dishes. The mocktail brought the whole meal together with a strong fruity flavor. The restaurant was well decorated from head to toe in an old English theme with classy and quiet vibes. If your looking for a vegan experience this is the place!

Yelp
For a vegan tasting menu, this has exceeded my expectations. What an experience! The ambiance was very cozy and romantic, the staff was attentive, and my partner and I spent 3 hours doing the tasting menu+wine pairing, which flew by with good conversation and food. I have included pictures of of some of the dishes, but we turned the menu upside down to keep the excitement high when the staff explained what our meals would be. I HIGHLY recommend avoiding the photos and letting yourself fully experience the surprises! We started off with the optional cheese plate, since we rarely get opportunities to order vegan cheese plates. The middle cheese was our least favorite, but the other two cheeses and peach jam were delicious and tasted very fresh. We did not regret getting it! Some of my favorites were the Roasted Cauliflower Soup (unique flavor) and Charred Avocado Mezzaluna (rich umami/meaty flavor). We also appreciated that they brought out a crispy appetizer that was not on the menu to hold us over before starting the tasting menu. The wine pairing is what made us feel as though we were truly experiencing fine dining. The sommelier brought out a different drinks before each food item (sakes, wines, beers, etc.), explained the different notes within it that should be tasted with each bite. He also took us through a picturesque journey in the snow with each drink, which was a fun little addition. If it were up to me, I would have included a few more reds, but I am obviously biased. The melon beer was definitely the best drink - trust me! Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and would recommend it to anyone who was celebrating a special event. However, make sure you reserve in advance - they fill up quickly and we finally got lucky finding two seats!

Yelp
I visit Washington DC a few times each year and dining at Elizabeth's is one of the highlights of my trip. It never disappoints. Elizabeth's Gone Raw is a woman owned and run business that was started as part of Elizabeth's journey to healthful and joyful living following a serious medical challenge. It is truly an oasis and provides a respite from the stresses of everyday life. We started with the vegan "caviar" which is both delicious and surprisingly similar to actual caviar. The very knowledgeable servers will explain the molecular gastronomy behind the "caviar" creation but I prefer to think it's just the magic that happens in the kitchen. In addition to the "caviar" there were six courses, all artfully plated; I enjoyed all of them immensely. My favorite though was probably the main entree which was simply bursting with flavor. I believe that some of the ingredients at Elizabeth's have been dehydrated and perhaps that is part of the reason that everything is so flavorful. We did try the wine pairing and I would highly recommend doing so. The sommelier, I believe his name is Michael, is so knowledgeable and his presence and wine selections enhance the overall experience. We had such a wonderful time that we stopped in the next evening for a drink and some kale chips ( the best I have ever had) before our dinner reservations at another of my favorite DC restaurants. Simply a wonderful gastronomical experience in a beautiful peaceful setting.

Yelp
We had a superb dining experience, and appreciated the great service of Simon. Delicious, creative, flavorful meal. Especially liked the Royal Trumper Mushroom BBQ and the amazing Pineapple & Peppadew Sorbet. The main course, Spring Pea & Mushroom Roulade, was fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
Well, this place was a really good vegan restaurant. The sommelier was excellent. The service was quite good. But it was a bit pretentious. Perhaps it was because it wasn't that used to the food served at room temperature. I had to look up the definition of a raw vegan to fully appreciate this restaurant. The food was good, and the wine pairing was excellent. And even though I like not eating meat. It was a bit too much for me.
google avatar

Bhamidipati M.

Yelp
The first thing that caught my eye was the visual experience we get when the food gets served. I was absolutely stunned by the innovation they got onto the plates. Putting all the visual aspect aside and coming to the taste, I felt like the ingredients used for all the dishes except for the caviar were pretty basic and did not hit the right spot. For a vegan/vegetarian it would be a shame to not use different vegetables in each dish but they used the same three ingredients like seaweed, mushrooms and turnips. Most of the dishes tasted similar and bland. The palette cleansing gelato and the ice cream were not even worth mentioning. One other important criteria for not being a top rated restaurant is because of the price point. It was a total of 400+ dollars for 2 person meal plus an additional 20% tip included for the food that was served. This really got the whole experience down for Elizabeth gone raw! A rotational menu can have a lot of advantages but they should make sure that each menu has a wide range of vegetables selection when they call themselves vegan. It would give a wholesome experience to the customer

Yelp
Food kept coming and coming! Delicious little bites!! I love how the waiter is explains each dish and how it's made! Excellent vegan restaurant!!

Yelp
I dined at Elizabeth's both last night and once previously in January of 2022. Both visits were exceptional. The service, decor, and food are all wonderful. I highly recommend this place to anyone vegan or otherwise for special occasions. If you are considering either the kale chips or the vegan caviar both are delicious! I would eat the kale chips every day and I'm not even much of a kale fan. The meal size is reasonable and you do not leave starving like other fine dinning restaurants. I will continue to come for special occasions!
google avatar

Lipi R.

Yelp
This is an experience. Having eaten in many metropolitan cities in the US and abroad, I have to say, without a doubt Elizabeth's gone raw is one of the most unique one-of-a-kind places. It not only makes food for vegans, it celebrates the food that it makes for vegans. With vegan and vegetarian family members, it's really nice to see a place that actually embraces this rather than completely avoids it like other restaurants. One should also mention that it's in one of the most beautiful townhouses in DC and so the ambience and vibe around you is very classic and you feel classy while you're there. The cocktails are delicious and really well thought out. I had a martini with dairy free, blue cheese, stuffed olives, and I thought that was innovative. We also get the caviar and cheese service every time, which is obviously all dairy free and plant-based. And from an innovation and taste perspective, it's again one of a kind and it blows you away. The food there is also amazing. Sometimes they go a little bit more experimental, and they do things like fake shrimp made out of Taro root and sometimes they're more traditional, and they just celebrate vegetables in their whole form. It's always a tasting menu, so just be prepared for that because you can't just order whatever you want. As mentioned before, this restaurant is an experience and if you want a vegan experience, you should come here. If you're going to complain about veganism, or price point or anything like that - go somewhere else.

Yelp
My husband took me out to dinner to celebrate and we had the best meal ever! We has fun sharing bites. We each got a drink and they were wonderful. We started with the caviar plate which is SO worth it and an experience that you'll never forget. Each small plate of the meal was absolutely delicious and prepared with such exquisite creativity. We enjoyed every bite. The dishes are so beautiful that it feels like you are eating edible art. We had a blast chatting to the passionate waitstaff throughout the meal and hearing some of the stories behind the beautiful paintings from Elizabeth herself. My husband and I agreed that this was one of the best meals of our lives. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will be back time and time again to try the different seasonal menus. The biggest thank you to Elizabeth, the fantastic Chef Francisco Hernandez and the wonderful team. Every single person made us feel so special and cared for.

Yelp
Contrary to the name, the restaurant doesn't actually have a fully raw menu. It it fully vegan which is great. It is a pre fixe menu which incorporated some really unique ingredients and cooking styles. Lots of mushrooms, new herbs, and berries. We loved all of it. We were full by the end of it, but not overly heavy or bloated as the food is light and pretty healthy.

Yelp
Had a nice meal at Elizabeth's, it's been on my list for a long time but finally stopped in. Nice, romantic interior, a bit dark (multiple tables used their phone lights to read the menu). Great music. Elizabeth is a wonderful host. The meal was 6 courses long + bread service, three of which were the amuse bouche, soup, and a palate cleanser between appetizer and entree. We added on the vegan caviar - a fun experience and reasonably priced at $45, it did feel similar to real caviar (closer in texture to salmon roe but more salinity like sturgeon) and they go all out with accoutrements. Some courses were good, others average. There were a lot of components on each dish which I thought detracted from them overall, where I would've preferred more focus and pronounced flavors. We left stuffed so no shortage of food here. Service was decent, no real complaints other than the course timing felt slow and our meal was 3 hours long when it didn't have to be. Captains explained every course with a ton of detail. This is an awesome place for vegans, I'd definitely return if hosting vegans/vegetarians looking for a nice fine dining option. It's impressive what they do with their "cream" based sauces and ingredients - all of the cheeses/sauces/etc were the highlights of the meal for me. But as an omnivore at this price point, there are other tasting menus around town that I think nail the execution and service a bit better.

Yelp
One time deal for me. I was super excited to come and experience a fully vegan pre fixed dinner. I had seen nice pics and read good reviews but I was let down. I had made a reservation for 6PM. Went it and saw we were probably just the second table of the time and yet for a couple we were pushed all the way to the side in the most awkward table I had seen. There was a pillar wall next to me and that made the mood unappealing for the price we had paid for. I expected to get a good table location if not one of the best they had for being their second table. Rest of the dinning room was great with soothing low light and art accentuated wall. The food was completely hit and miss. Some of the parts of a dishes were great but most led me hanging, asking would I ever come back here again? My answer was definitely not.

Yelp
This was so bad that we asked to speak with Elizabeth, mid meal, to try to settle our bill and leave. She didn't accept feedback, and instead invalidated what I was saying concerned me. And while it was gracious that she offered to have us just leave, no bill, mid-meal - she then canceled my reservation in OpenTable - preventing me from leaving feedback. I get the impression she is well seasoned at that approach. The service and ambiance are just weird - both incompetent and yet overly formal. Seems as if everyone is a little sedated. Very old-time grandma's parlor decor, yet food attempts to be modern. Soup is served without a spoon, my partner's fork was cleared (which is fine) and not replaced (which is not fine) twice. There's a lot of pomp and circumstance to the service (with two servers presenting every plate simultaneously) and dishes are plated with careful thought - but it is all style and no substance. The food was consistent in only one regard - while NOT AT ALL RAW (not even one dish is, as I think about it, other than the dill on the soup (which is served too large a piece as it then needs to be eaten in one bite), even one ingredient is raw (a lone grape in that soup "for pop" was blanched and peeled - eliminating any freshness or "pop" possibility!) - nearly all of the food was served barely lukewarm. The broth of the soup was delicious, but the potatoes cubed and stacked in it were NOT COOKED THROUGH. Nearly everything seemed overly sweet (I sent back a cocktail TWICE because a dirty martini should not be opaque or be extremely sugary!) - beet reduction tasted syrupy and smelled of cinnamon under the appetizer. There is a puree served under what is supposed to be culantro leaves - but the celery root puree is so thick and over thickened it has the consistency of kindergarten paste (though that actually has a good flavor, I just couldn't get past the texture) and the "culantro" - a green with which I am familiar, was definitely substituted with something else - it has absolutely NO FLAVOR at all and was brutally overcooked. The intermezzo is what pushed me and my partner to ask to just leave - it was supposed to be a carrot, cardamom and blood orange dish - sounds delicious, right? But it was completely flavorless, if not just a little bitter. no freshness, no acidity. I have never in my life walked out mid meal. This was that disappointing. I knew I was going to leave both upset and hungry, so at least that was avoided (we went out for pizza). There are other reviewers who have tried to tell the truth about this place (overpriced, bland, tiny portions) and they seem to be well-disguised or prevented from sharing their experiences.

Yelp
We've dined at Elizabeth's Gone Raw several times -- it's now our fine dining and romantic date night go-to restaurant. Everything about this place is wonderful. Half culinary art school adventure, half delicious gourmet treat, the food is amazing and the staff are wonderful. This is one of the few places left in DC that understands the art of food and the celebration of fine dining in old tradition. The only thing as impressive as the food is the staff. Enthusiastic and intelligent charming young people with expert knowledge of the vegan fare. The friendly and professional staff, along with the warm and delightful formal dining room, makes dinner here a truly memorable experience. This is the place to take a special person in your life for fantastic food and old school atmosphere. Literally everything was perfect during our dinner -- it's a joy and treat to dine here.

Yelp
THANK YOU YELPERS! I typed in "fine dining" on Yelp and Elizabeths Gone Raw popped up. I am so happy I found this place and that we were in DC on a Friday/Saturday (only days they are open). This was the best meal we had in our 4 weeks of traveling the East Coast (and we did eat at a few Michelin Star restaurants)! We were running a few minutes late, called ahead and they were really cool about not rushing us or giving up our spot. We were greeted warmly and had an amazing cocktail at the bar downstairs before being seated. The bar is super cool. You can stop in just for a drink, if you are in the neighborhood. Creative really delicious cocktail menu, using ingredients you don't usually see in a bar. They offer a 6 course tasting menu for 85$, which is incredibly reasonable. And each dish was incredible. They used a wide variety of high quality fresh ingredients to create amazing flavor combinations. Each dish was different and so delicious. And yes, everything is plant based, no meat, no dairy. The best part, I was able to eat really good food without guilt! During our travels, I did not make the best food choices, but Elizabeths was healthy, while being insanely delicious. I left feeling very full but not heavy or polluted. Why are there not more restaurants like this!? The space itself is beautiful. Bar downstairs, restaurant up. Definitely a special occasion vibe, elegant, with art and soft lighting on the walls. We were so fortunate they had openings, I booked it a few days before and the cool thing, Elizabeth actually called me the day before to confirm. She also visited our table to see how things were. The service was impeccable. Everything came out perfectly plated and timed AND so delicious. I did not want the experience to end! Vegan or not, this place is a must try in DC!

Chef is incredibly creative and this tasting menu is a rollercoaster of new experiences. The smoked carrot rocked my world at the start and it only continued to impress me. The vegan Wellington main was cooked to perfection. Service is kind and attentive, It's not often I can go to a Resturant and hear myself and my company speak to one another. The ambiance is elegant, calm and inviting. I love the presentation of the food to the table, it makes the night feel incredibly special. This is not just a meal, it's an experience that the chef and servers take you on. I can't wait to be back for the next menu.

Yelp
Wow! This was quite a dining experience. I was not sure what to expect before going to this restaurant but I'm glad I had no expectations. I highly recommend getting the vegan cheese course & caviar in addition to the regular tasting course. We also had the wine pairing which was lovely! The sommelier Justin was very informative and had great pairings. Ben, our waiter, was AMAZING. One of the best waiters I've ever had and he passionately described every meal and chatted with us about the different ingredients. In total we were at the restaurant for four hours which was definitely longer than I wanted to be there. I think there was a slow down in the kitchen because the plates started coming out much slower. Also, I was impressed that most of the dishes are gluten free. Unfortunately the alternative options, such as the final dish, the dessert, was very tough and I didn't eat it. All in all this is a very unique experience and if you're looking for something creative, new, and to expand your comfort zone then this is the spot!

Yelp
Overpriced, bland (for the most part) too sweet- even the savory dishes- and tiny portions-- I get it is a tasting menu but honestly. We arrived at our appointed res time and were not seated until 30 minutes later. No food for another 15 minutes at least. Maybe a bad night for the kitchen but this was a huge disappointment for the hype and the price.

Yelp
Everything is awesome at this restaurant. I would eat there everyday of the week if I could!

Yelp
Elizabeth's is a dreamy experience! Unique flavors, amazing textures, beautiful dishes - all 5 senses were swooning! Each course was filled with unique taste sensations that were fused from ingredients that came from all around the globe. The servers were kind, knowledgeable and caring. The food was made with love. I am so happy this place exists. One of my life's top meals!

Yelp
This was excellent, cozy, friendly, and the cocktails & food was all very tasty. Only withholding one star bc the dishes were too small to satisfy my husband - unfortunate for an expensive meal (& we eat out at fine dining restaurants often). But service, food, drinks all deserving of at least giving this place a shot if you haven't been.

Yelp
Is zero stars an option?! Because that's all this place would deserve as far as I am concerned. I booked a Valentines Day reservation on January 21st. When I looked on the website it stated the price would be $105 per person. When I booked the reservation thru Open Table the price also stated it would be $105 per person. (See screen shots below). Despite all of this on February 11th the owner Elizabeth leaves me a voicemail stating "The price for Valentines Day would be $150 per person, and she wanted to know if I would still be coming". After listening to the voicemail I feel this phone call felt more like she was informing me the price would be more than I originally anticipated, and she just wanted to let me know to make sure I still wanted to reservation. The restaurant was closed when I got the voicemail on Saturday so I double checked the website. On the Menu page there was a new notice that wasn't there when I made my reservation stating the Valentines Day menu would be $150 because it was an "expanded menu". I also was unable to reach Elizabeth on Sunday. On Monday Feb 13th I was finally able to get ahold of Elizabeth to discuss the new pricing. I asked if the $105 price would be honored since that was the price I booked it at when I made my reservation on January 21st. Elizabeth stated she would not be willing to honor that price, and the price would in fact be the $150 price. I expressed how disheartening it was a first time person wanting to come to eat at the restaurant to be told a few days before Valentines Day that the price for my meal is way more than I expected to pay. She offered an insincere apology and said the new menu was update "last week". I told her I would be canceling my reservation due to the unethical business practices. She gave another insincere apology. I felt she could care less because she knows someone else would probably book the reservation at the $150 rate anyways. Thanx for ruining my Valentines Day Elizabeth. It is now February 13th at 3:00pm and I probably wont be able to get reservations anywhere else that has decent that is vegan. It's clear to me Elizabeth only cares about how much more money she can squeeze out of people. To change prices days before my reservation and not honor the price I booked is really bad business practices, and you should be ashamed of yourself for treating people this way!

Yelp
There isn't really anywhere in America quite like Elizabeth's Gone Raw. I've been to my fair share of nice restaurants but to find somewhere that is exclusively vegan/vegetarian friendly is just delightful. I travelled back from California to DC to dine at Elizabeth's for my Birthday and it was completely worth it. I love the old-school imperial style atmosphere mixed with contemporary touches. "Tuna Tartare" An awesome start to the meal and my second favorite. The avocado horseradish was "melt in your mouth" like. Wild Spring Onion Flower Soup Certainly a "green" dish if ever there was. Distinct fresh flavors from the snow pea leaves and a nice consistency thanks to the cashew crème fraîche. Parmesan Ravioli My favorite dish of the night. The ravioli pillows were lightly seared making them ever so slightly crispy. The sauce/broth was delightful. I would have loved another piece of ravioli. Kale chips When I visit this restaurant, one serving is never enough. These kale chips are sensational and it's incredible to believe they are vegan. Celery and Green Apple Ice Served with a probiotic vodka cocktail if you do the wine pairing, this was refreshing and simple -- nothing outstanding and the little drink wasn't super delicious but still refreshing. Porcine and Morel Mushroom with Roasted Espuma de Papa The best way to describe this would be like a little edible garden planter with the most delicious morel mushrooms inside. The micro flowers gave it a beautiful touch but the dish is certainly overpowered by the accompanying broth. Rhubarb Ginger Ice Cream Absolutely delicious, refreshing and carefully textured. That is assuming you'll be able to eat this course after all the others ;). The wine pairing is literally a match made in heaven, there was a light red that I wasn't a fan of but every other drink was delightful. The sommelier is so friendly and helpful, she's a true asset to the restaurant. Also, the staff brought some gratis drinks out for my birthday which was very kind. I love this restaurant so much which is why I come back year after year. Give it a try!

Yelp
Wonderful setting to celebrate our anniversary. Service was impeccable. Was given excellent recommendation from bartender. We got what we needed when we wanted it. Sommelier was superb; we described what we wanted, and he delivered. It is great to be able to have such a variety of excellent vegan food (a rarity). We will be back for other special occasions.

Yelp
This was not a meal, it was a heavenly experience! I have never been to such a place though my work has taken me to four continents. The food was amazing. I wish I had had the chance to find out more about how it was made, the stories behind the imaginative offerings, but there was not time. The evening flew by. The atmosphere was welcoming and serene. About 40 of us were there to celebrate the life and work of a very special animal advocate and there could have been no better place to do that. I live in Maine and it would be SO fine to have even one restaurant like it here - or even in Boston. Others, take this place as a model, we need more of this!

Yelp
If I could give Elizabeth's 10 stars I would! What an incredible, unforgettable fine dining experience! Came here after searching for vegan dining options in DC and was amazed at the vibrant, diverse flavors, textures and tastes that made up the six course meal. Anyone who dismisses vegan food as being bland will be undoubtedly proven wrong after dining here. While expensive, I highly recommend opting for the wine pairing experience. The sommelier truly took us on a journey, telling a creative story related to the food and wine pairings that made us appreciate the food on a different level. He explained the complementary elements of the dish ingredients and the wines and sakes that he served and gave insights on how different textures and flavors of the food and wines interact. The dishes were very creative - my favorite was the main course (pictured) which resembled a small garden made of crunchy quinoa complete with miniature radishes. The servers were very professional and elegant and the ambiance was wonderful - great music and intimate feel with dim lights for dinner. This is truly the ultimate foodie experience and one of the best meals I've ever had in DC and most definitely the best vegan meal I've ever had.

Yelp
If you're vegan or looking for a fine dinning vegan experience, please come to Elizabeth's Gone Raw. Idk how they aren't on the Michelin guide or have a star! I've been wanting to come here for a while and have recently become vegetarian. As soon as, I saw they had dinner plans for Valentine's Day, I hopped on Open Table and made a reservation (2 weeks in advance ya'll). There was a prefix 6 course menu ($85 per person) that all guest had to have. In addition there was an a la cart option of caviar and cheese plate (each $40) . On top of that, my boyfriend and I decided to splurge and get the wine pairing too ($40 per person). So we basically got all the things and started us off with vegan caviar. Like wut? What does that even taste like? Well it was AMAZING and if they ever had a happy hour with this, I would totally get it again. Honestly, I think it was better than "regular" caviar which is hella salty. I'll add the menu photo below, honestly it was a total experience and you can't go wrong with anything. I do want to mention the oddest thing for me personally was the sauerkraut and celery sorbet but it wasn't that bad lol. Also, the wine pairing was good BUT I think it could of been better in which is truly was paired to go with a specific dish. There were a lot of international wine but it would of been great to see some regional wines as well. Also, the cheese plate! You could have these either before the meal or before dessert. What a presentation! Honestly, vegan cheese is....interesting to say the least but this was so flavorful! Also, I honestly never liked Brie cheese but this vegan brie cheese was BOMB. To sum this review up, come and have a true food adventure and be amazed!

Yelp
Every course was a work of art & exceptionally full of flavor. Amazing experience, excellent service. Emily was the best. Chef Francisco is a mad scientist with gourmet vegan creations. Cannot recommend enough.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try EGR since I moved back to the area and it didn't disappoint. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had. Everything was amazing, very creative with a good fusion of flavors. They also had a great drink menu and the kale chips are a must. Their menu changes monthly so I can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
(Yelp would not let me add photos, but each dish looked like a work of art!)

Yelp
I've been to Elizabeth's last year, and also ordered takeout since the pandemic hit. Both experiences were phenomenal. It's tough to overstate how incredible the food is--the dishes are creative and unusual, but they still end up being really yummy. For a special occasion, it's well worth the money. I also recommend the cocktails, they're pricey but fantastic! In person, it's an impeccable fine dining experience. Fancy atmosphere and attentive service. The restaurant is located in a cute old townhouse-style building that really stands out among all the steel and glass downtown. For takeout, the food isn't exactly ready-made--you do the final preparation step on most of the dishes (like heating up the soup or pan-frying the gnocchi). It might seem surprising or annoying but it really does the food justice. A really fun date night treat and a worthy break from all this cooking we're doing in quarantine. This is absolutely my go-to spot for an anniversary celebration, special birthday dinner, or meal to impress someone visiting DC.

Yelp
Food appearance was done really well. For a fine dining Vegan place the tastes were good but still left a little more to desire. I will have to give a second visit to try the food again but the staff and service was really friendly and our food came out in a timely manner.

Yelp
I almost have no words! We just came back after dining at this wonderful establishment to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. From the moment we walked in, the staff knew it was him and congratulated him promptly (incredible!). The rest of the night went as smoothly. The food is unbelievable, vegan or not, it's an experience worthy of trying from an art perspective alone! We are vegan so it was double amazing. Flavors, presentation, service - all were outstanding! We even were lucky to meet THE Elizabeth :) From charming hostess, to our wonderful waitress, to incredible bartender, great manager and Elizabeth herself - everyone was lovely and provided a phenomenal experience topped by a bday candle and a personal card. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Overall: I would return to try the seasonal selection! Every dish was spectacularly presented and explained, and the service was outstanding once it got going! Tastiness: None of the members of our party are vegans, but we're all curious eaters and wanted to try this restaurant for a while. Every one of us was happy with the food and satisfied with the tasting menu. It is an excellent idea to only go off the tasting menu so that you get immersed in the variety of preparing and plating the food. Presentation: Like a work of art. Please see the pictures posted by customers - plating at this restaurant has reached the level of art. Service: With the shortage of waitstaff in the city, service was a bit slow to get going, but once it did our waitress was excellent. I particularly enjoyed that all our dishes were brought over at the same time and the waitress explained what was in front of us. Ambiance: Dim-lit restaurant makes for a perfect date, anniversary, or group spot. The classic oil paintings and decorations anchor you clearly in DC. Cleanliness: Clean restaurant with clean bathrooms. Price: Appropriate for NW DC and a unique offering.

Yelp
We found EGR to be one of a kind and unsurpassed in Washington, for the food, service and luxurious ambience. I think one has not had a current dining experience until trying the "caviar" and enjoying the courses including tender filled jalapeño, resilient and surprisingly delicious and colorful tomato skin wrapped treats, on to the "Wellington" eventually into dessert with a rich slurp able reduction that is like tasting a unique flavor sensation for the first time. The sommelier ensures incredible pairings with each course. The servers are well informed, timely and discreet. They apatently genuinely care about the patrons' dining experience. The chef is an absolute alchemist - skilled and dedicated to a delicious, satisfying, innovative dining fare. From the welcoming salon style bar to the oil painting-adorned opulence of the spacious yet intimate dining room, Elizabeth's is an extraordinary dining experience. We loved it and look forward to the very next time. And Love that it is relaxed yet they still use what appears to be silver, and actual white linen table cloths.

Yelp
Everything about Elizabeth's Gone Raw is quite exceptional: the food and presentation, the service, and the ambiance. Dining at EGR is an exquisite sensory experience that invites all of your senses to align to the present moment, the here and now. This has always been my experience each time I have dined there. Every coarse is visually stunning as well as delightfully tasteful. Each dish is so creative beyond the conception of ingredients used. A most recent example is the smoked salmon carrot muse dish. Amazing!!! it is evident that much love, care, and thought is devoted to the preparation. The staff are always attentive and knowledgeable. Thank you to Elizabeth, Chef, and her staff for offering this wonderful unique experience. Thank you. I look forward to the next menu!!

Yelp
Parking- Franklin Court parking with entrance off 13th is affiliated with the restaurant. The hosts gave us a voucher for the parking garage, which scored us $2 off the $7 parking price. My husband drove around close to half an hour during rush hour in DC looking for a garage (some close at 7pm) and the street spaces aren't available until 6:30. Service was great. Hosts helped me figure out the parking situation and encouraged me to take a seat at the bar (in the entry area) while I waited. The restaurant is upstairs on the second floor. They have a coat check. It felt very elegant. I would say this is a special occasion kind of place for the price and ambiance. Came here for Valentine's Day dinner, and it was romantic. Because the home was furnished in the Victorian style, it might seem stuffy, but for a special occasion I think it's perfect. Other restaurant patrons were very nicely dressed (it may just be the holiday, but I wouldn't think so). I loved the creative cocktail menu. The food menu changes all the time, so I won't comment on individual dishes, but I would say that I liked most of them, and some were not as well liked. The 7 courses and kale chips will fill you up if you eat everything, but not in a heavy way, which was refreshing to me.

Yelp
Elizabeth's Gone Raw is by far my favorite restaurant. My partner and I celebrate all our birthdays and anniversaries at EGR. The building/ ambiance are romantic and the music couldn't be better. The staff are not only friendly and welcoming but also super knowledgeable about the menu. Each dish is a work of art. Seriously, even if you're a die-hard carnivore, you won't miss the meat here.

Yelp
Review of takeout during COVID-19: I was really excited to try this place after my sister told me she heard good things, but unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. The original idea was for my partner and I to have a date night outside. Part of the experience of this food is that it comes with instructions on how to prep it properly, which includes heating up items and compiling them correctly. We definitely messed up a couple parts (accidentally heated up the gazpacho instead of the asparagus soup as we assumed the labeling of the toppings corresponded with the containers which it wasn't and was on us for not checking properly.) The prep to put it together took about 10 min, but then by the time we took it outside and ate the appetizers, the mains were cold and the chickn dish reminded me of a leftover thanksgiving-themed TV dinner. The positives were that the asparagus soup was very good (even cold), and I could tell a lot of thoughtfulness and intent went into the prep. I guess it just didn't transfer well to our meal, but would be happy to give it a second try when we can go to the restaurant in person and get the experience the way it was intended to be.

Yelp
This place was amazing. I am not vegan, but my mother is. My boyfriend and I took my mom here to celebrate Mother's Day. PARKING There is street parking but their website states they validate if you park in the garage right across from the restaurant for $5. The garage was easy to find, but navigating your way in/out of it was not. We eventually found our way by going through one of the businesses. The security guard let us through. AMBIANCE We were greeted at the door by the hostess and was asked if we wanted to check in our coats. You need a reservation to dine here and they are only open on weekends I believe. The place looks like they converted a townhome into a restaurant. The hostess lead us up the stairs to our table. It definitely had a comfortable atmosphere and tables were spaced pretty far apart. They really only had about 20 tables. Music was excellent and I loved the vibe in there. Miguel and Erykah Badu were being played and I loved it. SERVICE Service was impeccable. Our server was very informative and answered all of our curious questions. Each time our food was brought out, multiple servers would serve us so all our plates were placed in front of us simultaneously. The whole experience was a journey and our server lead us through the whole way. FOOD Omg where do I begin. First of all, we were discussing how we were probably going to hit the Jimmy John's down the street because we thought we would be hungry afterward based on the portions. However, at the end of dinner we were all full and satisfied! The food is AMAZING!! I've never had anything like it and you don't have to be vegan to enjoy. I don't think I've had more tasty and flavorful food. My favorite was the "tuna" tartare and ravioli. You can tell a lot of love and consideration were put into each dish. Absolutely phenomenal. Everything was just *chef's kiss* If you're thinking about trying this place, DO IT. You're in for a unique experience that you cannot get anywhere else.
