On the Grid : Banjo Night at the Elk's Lodge

"Northside's answer to "underground music scene," Banjo Night is a weekly gathering of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club. The experience is refreshingly dated. Older-and-Younger generations alike can expect to find a retro-Americana charm while enjoying $1.50 Yuenglings. It's open to the public and about as local as you can get." - Wall-to-Wall Studios

So I was invited by a friend to join this location last year and so I started to entertain the idea. I made many trips and even went to the Orientation. I was about to leave town so I was unsure but what I can say is the experience was unique. The members only bowling upstairs is legit and the people that come here are unique. A lot of artist, creatives which was refreshing bc this place is not your typical crowd. I ended up leaving town for a while and never joined but I can say this place deff is one of a kind. I will most likely visit again in the future. The food is not the best but they are on a budget and I don't really think most people come here for food. I think they come here for the drinks and vibe. It's a worth while spot to visit while in Pittsburgh.

After being invited many times, I finally got out with some friends to try the Elks Pittsburgh famous Friday lenten fish fry. And overall, it definitely lived up to the hype. For $17, you get a huge fish sandwich and two generous sides. I went with Mac and Cheese and fries, and it was definitely a comfort food experience. The bar has very fair prices, and the staff run what is inherently a chaotic situation extremely well. Just get there early, or be ready to wait in line. Definitely worth a trip.

We came to buy tickets to Johnny Cash Day. We didn't eat there, so I can't comment on the food. There were some stranfe characters outside, so we were allowed in early. We looked at all the blueprints on the wall and spoke with a member whk told us of the history of the building and how they were trying to raise funds to renovate and repair. Everyone we encountered was so nice! We got our tickets, and were the first ones to do so!

Went to their fish fry last night. It was our first one ever! It was amazing!! We had to park several blocks away because of how crowded it was. And we waited for a table for about 45 mins…It was chilly. But we were so excited! And the whole experience did not disappoint!! From a band playing fun music to the amazingly large and fresh fish w/sides to the high energy to the really nice volunteers there…it was most definitely a memorable evening! And it won’t be our last!!

Came for this fish fry and it was a great experience. The music was fantastic and the food was good as well. It was about a 50-minute wait before we got inside but it was worth it. We will definitely be back.

Excellent fish fry!! Friday evenings (6-8pm) during Lent. Outstanding grilled fish (restaurant quality, very generous serving). Long line, but worth the wait!!

This place is home to some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. The banjo club has gained international recognition, earning mentions in foreign travel magazines and being featured in numerous publications and online media.

We were in town for a week and had found out about banjo night prior to visiting. We arrived early And were asked if we had reservations, which we did not. We were offered seats and beer menus. Like many fraternal clubs the drinks were cheap. We really enjoyed the music and several of the foods on offer that were prepared by club member volunteers. 10/10, would banjo night again.
