I came into Elsewhere Espresso exhausted. These late nights and early mornings of writing Yelp reviews is starting to take its toll. I came here as opposed to my normal coffee shop, as I need to get more reviews so that I can win another Yelpie. People don't want to talk about it, but a Yelpie is more difficult to get than a Grammy or an Oscar. Winning a Yelpie is war, and war is a full contact sport. I got my iced americano, and walked out to the covered outdoor patio and locked in. They have wifi here, which is huge because I get so annoyed when coffee shops don't have it... I mean I get it though, because when I walk into a coffee shop where all the tables are taken by people on laptops and over ear headphones I get so annoyed. The grass is always greener smh. My americano was S tier and brought me back to life, but honestly I just get it black so how good could it be. I'm no coffee connoisseur. While I was jamming away at my laptop, crafting a review that will make you laugh, cry, and contemplate your life in under 400 words in hopes to realize this long shot dream of back to back Yelpies, I spotted the only other girl on the patio reading "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain. My kind of people in here. I will leave you with a quote from the late, great Kobe Bryant: “Those times when you get up early and you work hard; those times when you stay up late and you work hard; those times when you don’t feel like working, you’re too tired, you don’t want to push yourself, but you do it anyway; that is actually the dream. That’s the dream. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

Google
I’m going to give “elsewhere” five stars because of the friendliness of their staff AND because they serve an amazing cappuccino. The coffee was so so, but I think they were having problems with the grinder. Again, in my book they’re getting five stars because the service was amazing. They have a young barista who is just super friendly and very helpful. Space - It is a small little shop with about eight tables. Outdoor - They have outdoor seating with many more tables. Prices - prices are reasonable. Food - They have some assortment of desserts, but not much. It is very local and worth coming over to visit.

Don’t ask for espresso unless you wanna be seriously sassed in front of the entire store. Ordered an iced latte… then I asked the woman at the register if she could add espresso to it, she literally goes “well yeah it’s a latte”. I’m sorry, has the earth spun off its axis? Since when is it unusual for someone to ask for extra espresso? There’s no way that was just a misunderstanding unless she’s entirely slow. The turning of the screen at the end to add gratuity literally sent me into a coma as it would anyone else.

Lowkey the best pumpkin spice latte I’ve ever had. Also loved the open doors.

Met a friend here not long ago. This place is definitely a #HiddenGem the music is relaxing the coffee is good. Staff was friendly and helpful. The restroom was very clean. Wi-Fi Available. Out door seating available. I would recommend checking this place out if you ever find yourself in the LES and wanting… #AJSupernova

One of the best Cappuccino in the village. I’m Italian…trust me!

Google
Decent latte. Spot is cool and the staff was nice. Anywhere taking parking for more seats is cool in my book. Edit: the barista came outside to ask if I wanted them to put the heat on. That’s very nice.

Google
Cappuccino was a bit bland but the froth was excellent. The barista was nice and friendly. Indoor seating is limited but it is supplemented by outdoor seating with heaters (that you can ask for them be turned on).

Yelp
There's nowhere like Elsewhere! Elsewhere Espresso remains my favorite local coffee shop, and has been for years. Elsewhere is cozy and chic with rustic wooden tables and chairs inside, as well as bar seating with stools. They always have the best music playing, too. There's an outdoor seating section that's covered, so you can sit out there even when it's raining. Part of me wants to gatekeep that! Because one of my favorite things to do is sit there while it's pouring and write. I should also mention that they have a restroom available to customers, and I think it's the cleanest restroom of any coffee shop in East Village. That might sound weird to non-New Yorkers. But locals, you know that's a flex. The food and drinks are consistently phenomenal. My favorites are the iced maple latte, the cappuccino, and the iced raspberry tea. All of the staff members here are so kind, warm, and talented! Elsewhere wouldn't be possible without them. I'm in love with this place, truly.

Yelp
A cozy coffee shop in east village that actually have quite a few tables and looks like would be a good place to read or work a bit. I was here on a saturday afternoon and stopped by for a cortado and it has pretty decent quality

Yelp
This is my new favorite coffee spot!!! The maple latte I got was so good. The barista was very kind and it was so comfortable sitting outside. Very queer-friendly spot and great for young adults meeting friends!

Yelp
We sat outside in the little patio area and it was so cute! I had an iced latte and a tahini chocolate chip cookie which were so good! The chocolate chip cookie was gluten free and you couldn't even tell! The tahini added a very subtle nuttiness that I liked. The service was so quick and efficient!
google avatar

Stephanie Y.

Yelp
Reliable local coffee shop with seating and wifi. There's always someone on the their laptop working. Nothing special but it's a local neighborhood coffee shop staple. 1 gluten free option (Tahini chocolate chip cookie)

Yelp
Super cute and spacious cafe. A few pastries, AC is blasting. The black currant tea is delicious and refreshing (unsweetened) $4. I also like that the staff was super welcoming and preemptively asked if I needed the wifi password! The sweet treats looked good too but I had some self restraint lol.

Yelp
My typical go-to place! Coffee is made super well, cozy atmosphere with wifi which always works. Staff are kind and helpful. I've tried nearly every coffee shop in the East Village and I always come back here because it's just that good. The only time I was slightly disappointed was today. The barista poured the espresso shots directly into paper cups rather than the typical method with the metal cups. I assume he didn't want to do any dishes? I don't mean to sound like a snob, but you can taste the difference when it's not made as well as usual. I had asked for it to stay because I like to use reusable mugs rather than paper or styrofoam ones which get tossed immediately. He confirmed with me that the order was to stay, but still made everyone's coffee like that. He had a good playlist though. I still would definitely recommend Elsewhere!

Yelp
House blend coffee was divine! Laptop friendly shop with WiFi. Overall it's a no frills neighborhood spot that's a good daily go-to.

Rosanna F.

Yelp
Neighborhood staple - props to the independent coffee shop still keeping in solid in the East Village. This spot has friendly staff, always right-sized to find a table for the time you need, and cozy. Coffee is amazing and the latte is $5, $6 with a tip... can't be beat. Try the Nutella banana bread, tahini cookies, all so so good. 5+ stars.

Taj S.

Yelp
Great environment, friendly employees. Especially Drew, he always serves the best coffee. Definitely should stop by here if you're in the east village.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Stopped by because we were waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. We ordered a cappuccino and a latte... and I understand there isn't that much of a difference between the two but the barista just made both and left it on the counter for pick up. It's not very easy to differentiate and it wasn't a HUGE deal but I also don't know what price difference I'm paying for... The Capp/Latte was also scorching hot and had a burnt taste to it. I don't think I would be returning unless I'm waiting for another table :(
google avatar

Jamie R.

Yelp
So I am not here to review the coffee, I am here to review the ice tea! Not only is the ice tea here only $3, which if you know NYC you know is a rarity, but it's super refreshing too. I think their ice tea is a perfect summer drink if you're not in the mood for ice coffee but still want some caffeine. Their black peach tea is my fave! All of the teas are unsweetened, and they do have one decaf option too if that's your thing!

Zak L.

Yelp
I used to regularly come here to work, but they recently got a new sound system, and it's way too loud to concentrate. Reading on the subway is easier. Coffee is decent, and they have great pastries, would recommend for take out.

Yelp
Great cold brew with a splash of milk. Not too sweet, and not too sour. Packed a good punch.

Yelp
I've always dreamed of living next door to a coffee shop but this place is just dangerously close to me. I come here often whenever I want a quick mid-day espresso. As a coffee obsessive, the drinks here are good but can be hit or miss for me based on whoever is making them that day. I typically cycle between an iced latte (soy / almond) or an americano or just regular drip. Nothing special or amazing but it's so close to me that it does the job whenever I need something quick. The real star of this place is their vegan pumpkin bread. I am fully obsessed. Amazing. Soft. Perfectly spiced and tastes like a bite of fall and autumn coziness. Yum. The shop itself is very quaint and cute with plenty of seating and space to do work both inside and outside. This would be an amazing place to catch up on work or sit with friends and have communal focus sessions (over a slice of pumpkin bread, of course). Overall not the best coffee given how many amazing cafes there are in the east village area but not a bad option if you live nearby.

Yelp
Stopped by looking for some coffee in the neighborhood and just got a standard americano, but wasn't too impressed. Service was fast and the cafe seemed like a good place to do some work, but overall probably would not be back.

Zach T.

Yelp
Not the worst in the neighborhood, but not the best. Limited food options, and cheap coffee cups where the lids always leak. Good service when the owner is there, variable service other times. I've been going for years because they've stayed a little bit cheaper than other nearby places and are on my route.
google avatar

Yelp
Shhhhh....This is a hidden gem. Maple latte was delightful. I'm feeling their outdoor heated lamps and outdoor wifi. Very friendly barista. Immediately offered me the wifi info.
google avatar

Maya F.

Yelp
This is a really great place to go and get some work done at. I love coming here to get a coffee (inexpensive) and sit outside (outdoor wifi). The barista is nice and the cafe overall has great vibes.
google avatar

Su L.

Yelp
This is the kind of the kind of coffeeshop you can depend on for consistently good coffee. I've been here a number of times and have always had a good cup here. They use a medium roast, good for people who don't like overly bitter or strong tasting coffee. We had two coffees today, for $6.50, which I also find comparably cheaper than other places in the area. The service is friendly. Only drawback of this place is that it is small, with seating that doesn't look overly inviting. However, it is a good grab and go place.

Kelsey L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the neighborhood and most of the staff is incredibly friendly. This morning though, I waited in front for 10 minutes after their posted opening hours to be let in, and when I peeked inside to see if they were coming to unlock the door, the young man working gave me a dirty look and said "does it look like we're open!?" And I'm immediately turned off. Won't be back while that rude guy is working.
google avatar

Yelp
i had the short bread cookie and it was pretty good. not too sweet and huge! staff was very friendly. i loved the seating area. it was a little hot in there though.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor seating, jams, newspapers, WiFi... they've got it all. Loved my iced americano and latte was solid as well. A new fave of the neighborhood options!
google avatar

Steph Y.

Yelp
Stumbled upon here because another coffee shop I really wanted to go in the area was really packed and didn't feel like waiting for my caffeine. Came here with a friend to catch up and the first thing we noticed was how quiet it was, there was no music playing in the background. Probably not the best spot to talk but ideal for those who want to get some work done especially since it's super bright in here. But FYI it can get a little cramped in between tables. I ordered a machiatto and thought that it wasn't that strong, didn't quite spot for me. I thought it was okay, nothing to rave about. However, service was great even though there was only one barista. The coffee shop is pretty cute with some greenery. There are some stools against the wall, about 4 small tables for 2 and a bench inside the shop looking out the window. I would come back but I'll try something different next time.

Yelp
My father-in-law is a diehard espresso drinker and has a high bar for his espressos. During a 3-month stay in NYC, he scoured the coffee shops in East Village and this was by far the best spot he found. I enjoy the cozy vibe here, and we also got a raspberry granola bar that was crumbly, soft, and not overly sweet (3.5 stars). While I'm not an espresso drinker, I did get a Turmeric latte and enjoyed that (4 stars)!

Currently A.

Yelp
This is my favorite espresso in Manhattan right now. Crema like the head of a good german beer. Professional baristsas. Darker roast by Coffee Labs. Absolutely yummy. Also grateful for the nice collection of vegan treats - pumpkin bread my fav

Yelp
Elsewhere comes really close to 4 stars - however, it still fell a bit short of expectations. When I came into the shop, there was a single barista behind the (admittedly tiny) counter. I'm not sure if she's just new, but she was a bit inefficient with the order ahead of me, such that I and the people in line behind me ended up waiting quite a while. When I came to the front of the line, she didn't even look at me for several minutes, leaving me a bit confused. I ordered a simple latte with simple syrup (which had been omitted from my drink, and there's no area to add my own sugar). The milk foam quality was a little subpar, as the bubbles were quite large with bits that were chunky(?) and didn't seem frothed. The latte itself tasted OK. Perks of coming here: ample outdoor seating to make up for the few indoor seats; strong free wifi; clean bathroom. However, the service and the average drink don't stand out (in a good way) in a neighborhood where there are fantastic coffeeshops on every corner.

Yelp
When I stop in random cafes and feel let down by the atmosphere, and the coffee fails to hit, I think I'd rather be Elsewhere. Elsewhere sets the standard, for me, in what I look for in a coffee shop. Their coffee is strong, their prices are affordable, and there's plenty of seats. Also the music is always fairly good! Sometimes I wonder if they took my playlist off of Spotify, to be honest. I don't come nearly as often as if I'd like, but every time I do it's a real treat. Have never been let down at Elsewhere. And honestly, there's nowhere I'd rather be. I recommend getting their oat milk latte with some banana bread or pumpkin bread. It's a great way to spend a sleepy morning or early afternoon and would make a great coffee date spot if that's what you're looking for. And remember, friends don't let friends drink Starbucks.
google avatar

Sherry L.

Yelp
I stopped by because this is one of the few cafes in the East Village that I haven't tried yet - also because Yelpers mentioned some bomb ass cookies would be available here. I was sorely underwhelmed with the regular coffee I ordered. It tasted a bit sour...like under roasted beans or over brewed coffee. Either way, I was not a huge fan. There were also no cookies for sale at 7:30AM, only croissants. Unfortunately, my croissant didn't taste all that fresh. Also, the barista had a pretty stinky look on her face each time I interacted with her. Not so with the other customers, so maybe it was just me? There is a bathroom and free wifi available, so you might find this to be a decent study spot. Not sure I would choose this over the many other cafes in the vicinity though.
google avatar

Anagha B.

Yelp
Pretty solid coffee shop tucked away in East Village. The espresso is strong and doesn't taste like it comes from a bottle. Highly would recommend the cold brew - I could really taste slightly nutty notes in the espresso. Worth checking it out if you like stronger tasting drinks!
google avatar

Hoshigata ..

Yelp
I have pretty high expectation for cafes as most cafes are just like any cafes to me. But perhaps it was that much needed thick iced matcha latte & iced coffee after a long hot day of apartments hunting, and I needed something to quench my thirst badly. Perhaps it was that the drinks and cookie were served in real utensils vs plastic cups that made it tastier + I know that I'm not contributing more waste to the earth. Perhaps it was that delicious double fudge yet not too sweet cookie so that I don't feel too sinful. Perhaps it was that bench outside the cafe to rest my tired feet in the cool weather that was about to bring on the summer rain. Perhaps it was the peaceful street, which make it the perfect spot to chill. Perhaps it was the extra mile that the barista went, when she gave ice cubes to my puppy. Overall, it's good. (Which in Singapore, means absolutely great.) /mobile

Yelp
Chilled vibe, great coffee - elsewhere espresso has everything I was longing for after a short run for end of week celebration. My barista was super nice and quickly served my iced latte. Though it was a bit on the intense side after the first sip, it turned out to be well balanced - just like going through the tough week before enjoying the weekend, loved it!

Yelp
LOVE THEIR AMERICANO!! Location: East village, I am here exploring you, starting from coffee shops. Elsewhere espresso is a great traditional coffee shop. Not fancy like coffee project, not commercial like beans, Elsewhere espresso is just being a legit place for a coffee break. They have wifi inside, and some tables for people to sit and chat and simply drink good coffee. they also offer pastries for customers to have a quick bite. Why not! Coffee: love their americano, very strong, very delicious, very wanna try twice in a day. Service: the girl is definily moaning against Monday since she's not smiling to anyone and gives me a feeling of this-is-monday-and-i-am-angry face. it's okay. I feel ya Price: compared to west village, east village coffee shop is cheap, cheap in a good way. Thanks overall: I forgot to mention that their chairs are extremely uncomfy but I will be back. The americano is too good to not come back. 4 solid stars

Yelp
A nice, laid back vibe in here with, what I could tell from my 2 hours there, a killer soundtrack for your background music pleasure. Awesome assortment of iced teas to choose from, too. A big plus for this non-coffee drinker who loves coffee shops. Not much seating, but a cozy spot to chill if you manage to snag a table or a stool. Or you can get the bench in the front window for ultimate people watching! Bonus points for their witty chalk sign out front, which I've oft-admired long before having paid them a visit :)
google avatar

JW M.

Yelp
If you are looking for a cafe to work in, this is by far the best option in the East Village. Elsewhere Espresso: - is cozy, clean, comfortable, spacious, bright - is never, ever crowded - has wifi and plugs everywhere - has acceptable coffee to drink and acceptable snacks to eat - has a friendly and unobtrusive staff, who are nothing but smiles even if you occupy a seat for six hours while having just a couple of coffees - which you can count on doing since, again, it is never crowded. I mean it about the coffee and treats. If you want a really great cup of cofee, this isn't the place. (It's still way better than Starbucks!) And if you want to eat it definitely isn't the place. But if you want a clean, comfortable public space to type on your laptop or read a book or meet a colleague, places come no better.

Yelp
Decor: Beautifully Wooden Signage: Witty Barista: Friendly and efficient Crowd: Hipster Menu: Somewhat hidden in placement Coffee: Average Rating: 3 stars for the coffee, 5 stars for all else I always enjoy seeing nice wooden furniture in NYC as I feel it gives us a nice break from the urban jungle. It also plays well against the exposed brick walls and small paintings on top. I feel like a decor is an essential for a coffeehouse, especially for people who want to spend hours in there. Yes, I'm referring to the crowd inside donning beanies, typing away on macbooks, and sporting shirts buttoned up all the way to the top. Hipster fashion? The signage outside the shop is witty and what attracted us in for a mid-afternoon coffee break. There was someone before us in line and I wanted to check out the menu so I would know what to order by the time it was my turn. I glanced around and it was nowhere to be seen until we stepped up the counter where the menu is taped next to the pastry showcase. My suggestion is to have the menu listed somewhere more visible to help expedite a line, if one is ever formed. I ordered a cortado and the friendly barista even cut my milk into a heart shape on top of my coffee. The others with me had an iced coffee. What's lacking here was a decent coffee. It tasted generic yet slightly harsh to me and the iced coffee drinkers agreed. I'm by no means a coffee expert but to me the beans used in my opinion lacked depth but was full bodied.

S. M.

Yelp
Be warned: the owner is a vocal Trump supporter. So that's where your money is going. Pros: very strong coffee, good internet, not super busy. Other cons: bad lighting, bad acoustics.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
When I lived in the East Village, I'd come to this coffee shop almost everyday. I'd come for a great coffee to go, for a coffee date with a friend, to read my book on the bench that's basically outside, or to do work on my laptop all day. There is something about this coffee shop that just makes me feel so good to spend time in. Maybe it's the adorable ambience, the minimalist decor, the not-too-loud and always great music, or of course the awesome coffee. My only complaint is that I wish there was more seating! But even with the few seats, I've never had trouble getting one. Now that I don't live in the East Village anymore I don't get to come by as often, but I still try to go out of my way to get there whenever I can :)

Yelp
Incredible people. Incredible coffee and espresso. Stop on in and enjoy. Outdoor seating available.

Yelp
"Better than Abracco [sic]," said a woman sitting outside Elsewhere as I passed this place this morning. Of course that piqued my curiosity, so I went in a little later to try this place--had to because there are painters in my apartment and I can't even use the bathroom at home right now. Yes, their offerings are bare-bones, since they're just up and running--yet another contender in the happening East Village coffee scene. They did have soy for the coffee, and did offer a full-bodied decaf, which I tried. I like very much that they're staying with the 19th-century Lower East Side storefront rather than remaking it into another hi-tech coffee place. Seating? Most people will be getting their coffee to go from this place. Just. Plain. Good.
google avatar

Laura K.

Yelp
Awesome find! Super cute cafe with great coffee, served in mugs if you order "for here", which is always a homie touch. I came here to study and found the cafe to be a nice study/work environment. There isn't a ton of seating, but if you can snag a seat, it's a great spot. They play jazz over the speakers, which sets the mood perfectly for an east village cafe. Another huge plus is their drip coffee is only $2.00!! That's cheaper than the commercial chains for coffee (Dunkin, Starbucks, etc.) A great find, would highly recommend a stop in!
google avatar

Zoë F.

Yelp
I got a great oat cap here the other day. The shot was well-balanced and perfectly-pulled. The milk was the perfect temperature and nice and foamy. Coffees made with love in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Enya L.

Yelp
Coffee and tea are not strong at all. Super watered down, lacking in flavor. With that said, it's a nice and pretty quiet cafe even on the weekends! ( hard to find in this area) Great spot to study/read at. Fan, free wifi, bathroom. You pick and choose your battles right?
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I had an iced latte with the perfect proportion of espresso and milk. It wasn't watered down, either. The ambiance is seriously lacking, though. Not much of a hang out place.
google avatar

Abraham W.

Yelp
The coffee was good, but then my friend went to eat a macaroon we had bought nearby and the barista came out from behind the bar to tell her off about the "no outside food or drink" policy. It was really weird and off-putting
google avatar

Eric C.

Yelp
Really cool spot in the neighborhood! I've come here a couple times to get some work done. Good espresso to go with a solid working space. Kinda similar to a few other cafes between 1st and A but they're like that for a reason. Definitely worth it!
google avatar

Olivia D.

Yelp
I love coming to this small coffee shop. There's usually always a seat unless it's a weekend morning. Their coffee is STRONG and not for the weak hearted. I really enjoy it but just don't drink 2 large coffees at once :) The baristas are really nice and there are a lot of locals that come in, the music and the vibe are relaxing, and they always have fresh almond croissants. Lucky this place is right next to me. Oh, and the store chalkboard sign always has something witty drawn on it.
google avatar

Steph Q.

Yelp
I had some time to kill and decided to walk here from Union Square to get a pastry and coffee. I should have known that at 5pm there would be no pastries, so I got a Cortado with Almond milk. Smooth, bold and creamy, it was super tasty. Plus soy and almond milk only costs 25 cents extra so I didn't feel ripped off like I would have felt at fourbucks. Will be back.
