I made a reservation here for my wife and her mother to celebrate her 40th birthday. I had contacted them ahead of time and shared the reservation was to celebrate a milestone birthday.
Given that information, I hoped they would do at least something small to acknowledge the event and make the meal a memorable one; unfortunately, not only did they do nothing, from the moment she arrived she was made to feel unwelcome and unspecial.
The host acted put out when they couldn’t immediately find the reservation made under my name. The service was slow and unprofessional. Their plates were never bussed. Their waters sat empty and were refilled once in the hour and a half their meal dragged on for.
As the person who set this up for his wife’s 40th, I’m embarrassed. Without irony, I am confident they would have had a better time at TGI Fridays, and I bet they would have at least figured out how to put a candle in a cupcake to celebrate a birthday.
I sent them to Elysée’s hoping for a memorable meal; unfortunately they achieved that goal by making it memorable for all the wrong reasons. I hate writing negative reviews, but with so many great restaurants in NYC, you have no reason to roll the dice on this one, especially for a special occasion.
Giving 2 stars because at least the food didn’t have a roach in it or something.
