ER: Worst experience ever! First and foremost their bed side manner is absolutely disgusting!
My fiancé' arrived at the ER from a car accident and the cause of the accident was unknown! When I arrived my fiancé' had already said no to stitches, just FYI my fiancé' was unaware of the extent of his injuries so when I got there I told him he should get them. He had a gash on his right eyebrow and eyelid (which they did put liquid glue/band-aid over the eyelid and his nose cause it was cut to where you can see the inside of his nose) So when the DR came in (NELSON HUANG)to look over the injuries and ask questions we then told him we did want stitches and he said okay. He couldn't access his eyeball due to it was swollen shut so the DR(NELSON HUANG) said we will put an ice pack on that so we can try and get the swelling down and Ill look at it then....(ice pack didn't arrive for another 30 min and that was only because I went and addressed the nurse we were still waiting for one)
When he went to ask if my fiancé' had any past medical issues, my fiancé' responded with yes I had a couple alcohol induced seizures. (he is not diagnosed with epilepsy, and hasn't touched alcohol since and has been seizure free for a year now, FYI WE HAVE A NEURO SURGEON ) that is when you can really tell the DR(NELSON HUANG) didn't give a shit about anything else we had to say. He went straight to trying to blame it on that and tried to give him Keppra. We denied it and when I tried to explain that I would know if he had a seizure, due to the fact I was present with every seizure he has had and the aftermath of them, he talked over me and continued to ignore anything I tried to say! He then left the room.
The first nurse was sweet but very hard to find and she only made one visit to check in on him. I had to search for help multiple times and the other nurses were not of any help. They were either dismissive when I'd ask for anything or they would they say yea and then go back to talking with one another. Any time I would go up to the desk nurses they would all give dirty looks and would barely be of any help! ( just putting this out there , we have multiple family members and friends in this industry so we know how the ER works and what to expect) No one offered him a blanket , a pillow , or pretty much anything. I can say the nurse that helped us at the end was amazing and I am so disappointed I didn't get his name because I would love to thank him again and let his name be known of how kind he was and the care he showed us. Now fast forward to the next nurse who was next door a lot! She instantly had attitude with me when I had asked if I could get some hospital socks for him because he was freezing. Then when the 1st nurse came in , they again tried to put up a line for Keppra although there are and were no signs that he even had a seizure! we then again , denied it! Not to long after the DR (NELSON HUANG) came in with the nurse next door and his assistant to let us know we were being discharged. (she had been with him the whole time) Again had a hard time looking at his eye and was like yup its fine, although he could barely see it(he was very vocal about not being able to see it that good) He then proceeded to tell us that my fiancé' "HAS A SMALL FRACTURE THAT IM NOT WORRIED ABOUT" AND he should take Keppra although there was no signs of a seizure ."I don't care about his well being I care about the publics, and he is like a loaded missile" "so you know for a fact it was one" " no we don't but we also don't do that in the ER( we have been in the ER due to a seizure before but okay) and like I said we aren't concerned for his safety we are concerned for the publics and you should be too and you shouldn't drive" my fiancé' then goes what am I suppose to do then, I have a family I need to take care of (we have 2 kids), the DR ignored him and walked away. We are then told we could leave, no wheel chair to help him out, no wrap for either of his ankles (his right had a sprang and was extremely swollen and the left was the one with "the little small fracture". I then asked a nurse (the one who actually showed any remorse and actually cared) if he could retrieve one so we can help him out because my fiancé' couldn't even walk due to his injuries and still has a hard time. He told me to pull the car around and we will bring him out on the bed and help him in the vehicle. I went and pulled the car around and my fiancé's mom told me that the nurse decided to put a temporary cast on his leg and even gave us crutches and extra wrap to take home. Again this nurse was just amazing and I can not thank him enough for his help! update from orthopedic: that "small lil fracture he wasn't worried about" is actually a ligament that was completely disconnected and will take 2-3 months to heal from!
If you want help and you need an ER visit I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ASKING FOR A TRANSFER if you don't want your injuries and concerns to be dismissed!
