Emma & Otto’s Ice Cream - Review - Bainbridge Island - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Some of the greatest ice cream in Seattle is actually a short ferry ride away on Bainbridge Island. You’ve probably zipped past this small cottage on Winslow in favor of a certain popular spot with longer lines, but skip that line and trust us—Emma & Otto’s is way better. The beauty of their ice cream rides on its pure simplicity, from a coffee flavor that tastes like mellow cold brew swirled with fresh sweet cream to lilac-colored blackberry scoops we find hard to stop eating. (Well, licking.) A tall stack of this stuff smashed inside a homemade cinnamon waffle cone is the best treat on the island." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
I have been to a lot of ice cream places and this was honestly very basic for the high prices. Over $6 for a single scoop in a cup (no toppings) and over $5 for a kids scoop. They menu has very few choices and as mentioned, no toppings. The workers added a piece of candy to the kids cones which was unexpected but nice. The ice cream itself was good but nothing spectacular. Be prepared that it is all outdoor seating and many of the seats are not shaded. They have free cups of water to the side of their trailer but the water was warm. It's within walking distance to the downtown shopping area so that's a plus.

Google
This place is SO GOOD. You can tell that it's homemade and quality. They make their waffle cones there and they're an absolute MUST HAVE with the ice cream. I'm down to hop on the ferry just to come here. I tried their vanilla lavender ice cream with a waffle cone cup and I was in heaven.

We went as a family and had a great time! Kids got mint chip and cookies and cream to try, my husband got mint chip in a regular waffle cone, and I got the vegan chocolate in a gluten free waffle cone. We all thoroughly enjoyed everything! It is not easy to find vegan ice cream that isn't a sorbet and I love chocolate so this was such a treat! The staff was super helpful and kind, answered questions to avoid allergens. We will definitely come back! Parking can be challenging so if there isn't any on the main strip, follow the blue signs for public parking down Ericksen Ave or if you see the Bainbridge City Hall building on Madison Ave (street prior to Ericksen, both end at Winslow Way), turn into that lot and the public parking is accessible through there! It's an enjoyable walk, not too far. Lots of signs to tell you where is permit only parking, for specific businesses, or days/times you have to have a permit. We parked by the performing arts center and had no problem!

WOW! This farm fresh ice cream was the best i’ve ever had! I’d come to bainbridge just for this honestly. I had the strawberry and blackberry in their homemade waffle cone and let me tell ya, it was a good day.

Google
Amazing waffle cones here! I adored the blackberry ice cream. Nice outdoor seating nearby, or just a short walk to the beach. Unfortunately they hand out a piece of single-use plastic with each ice cream. Otherwise 5 stars.

Google
This is hands down the BEST ice cream I have ever eaten! My family stopped by on the way back to Seattle. It was such a hot day and the strawberry ice cream tasted like I was eating fruit back on the farm. So creamy and rich. Do NOT miss this gem!!!!

Google
Now this is the good stuff. Ice cream tasted super creamy, and the flavors tasted natural and not too sweet. I went for the almond joy. Definitely go for the waffle cone. Best ice cream I’ve had in awhile.

Google
Tasty ice cream - I had mango sorbet and chocolate brownie ice cream in their homemade cone, which had a cinnamon undertone. 😋 Their ice cream was better than their sorbet in my opinion and both were very thick in texture. Note that their one scoop is normal two scoops!

Yelp
In a lively atmosphere on a clear afternoon, there is always time for this ice cream! The ice cream is thick and creamy with a flavor that matches the lovely atmosphere filled with people. What really stands out to me are the shops and atmosphere nearby. It is perfect with ice cream! If you ever want to stop for ice cream, be sure to come to this little plaza shop!

Yelp
I wanted dessert after our lunch and it was this or Mora's ice cream. So we sampled both and decided to try this place as the texture was creamier in my opinion. They are a little hidden but if you follow the rock arts you will find them. They don't have as many flavors but it's not too bad. We got the blackberry ice cream and the lemon ice cream. Although we got it in kid size scoop in a kid size waffle cone, it was definitely a good portion. I can't even fathom was a regular adult size waffle cone would be as our cone was a good size. It's really cute that they put a whopper on the bottom of the cone as well as the top. The cone itself was really good, it has this nutmeg or cinnamon flavor and the texture was definitely more sturdy than normal waffle cone. It was very enjoyable. BOth ice cream was refreshing, not overly sweet and creamy. OVerall, it was a pretty good place and price was also reasonable. I definitely would come back here next time im on the island.

Yelp
This is the only ice cream place that's a stone throw away from the ferry, so look no longer. Ice cream is hand spun, making it extra smooth. Cookies and cream flavor is off the hook! Your choice when it comes to cup, waffle cone, or waffle cup. Seating is limited, so make sure to have a friend get a spot or claim it yourself, otherwise you'll be eating this ice cream in the sun.

Yelp
Cute local ice cream shop right off the Main Street! Lovely people and cute family story about how they started. Emma & Otto are the names of their grandparents and they've passed down the tradition of ice cream making over generations. They have some standard flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, mint chocolate chip, and coffee. You can get it in a cup, waffle cup or waffle cone. Bonus, they do split scoops!!!

Yelp
Another great ice cream option on Bainbridge! Situated at the edge of Winslow closer to the ferry, this inviting ice cream stop is a welcome sight when the weather is nice since it's outdoor seating behind some other business on Winslow way. I went with Strawberry since it is spring time. It tasted very good and looked very natural. More of a subtle fresh Strawberry taste and definitely not artificially colored. Menu of daily options is small but they are farm to cone operation and flavors so far on point!

Yelp
As we were walking by, we saw a small plaza with stacks of rocks, with a ice cream stand saying "farm to cone," so I was intrigued. I ended up getting a single scoop salted caramel with waffle cone and my sugar fix is satisfied. I would have loved if the salted caramel actually has saltiness to balance out the sweetness, just like other salted caramel ice cream I have eaten, as it was somewhat one dimensional. I do enjoy the general creaminess of the ice cream, though. The waffle cone is freshly baked - I generally save money and just get it in a cup but the smell of the waffle cone drew me to try out what is good. There is a nice surprise when you take the last few bites of the waffle cone - there is a whopper candy that is like a mini dessert after a dessert.

Yelp
On the list of best places in Seattle is a competing ice cream place near this one. My fiancé and I are traveling from out of state and we're exploring around. As we were making our way to that place we see this beautiful ice cream shop with someone waving from the window! We couldn't stop thinking about how friendly that person was, but we kept walking till we made it to the other ice cream shop. We took one look at it and it just wasn't as inviting. We decided the other shop deserved our money more. So we turned around and made our way back to Emma and Ottos Ice Cream. It was such an enjoyable experience. As for the ice cream it's self: My fiancé had the cookies and cream and said it was one of the best versions of that ice cream that he has ever had. He was specifically impressed with the fact they not only have the chunks of cookie but there was actually some small chunks of cream. I had the strawberry ice cream in one of their in-house made waffle cones. The waffle cone was delicious! I'm not sure if there is cinnamon or nutmeg in it but it was so flavorful I could've eaten 10. I normally get a chocolaty ice cream but I am glad I got the strawberry. The flavor was light and good. Super refreshing! Sometimes strawberry ice cream can be too sweet but this one was like a strawberries and cream and it was really good. Overall it was an incredible experience and I am glad we went there. Only thing is, I've been on a search for honeycomb ice cream. It's popular in Australia. I challenge this place to make their own version of that because I know they could live up to the challenge :)

Yelp
I was visiting Seattle last week for a training and we stopped by Bainbridge Island on one of our days there. I was looking for some ice cream after eating lunch and found this cute little ice cream shop. I got excited when I saw they had lavender vanilla ice cream since I love any sweets with lavender. I got a kid's scoop in their freshly made waffle cone and it was so yummy! You could taste the lavender and it wasn't too strong. The homemade waffle cone was perfect. My friend got their salted caramel flavor and she said it was amazing. I'm not a caramel lover, but I'm sure it was amazing as she says. So glad I stopped by this ice cream shop while visiting. The shop is a little hidden because it's kind of in the back of some of other shops. But you'll be able to spot it right away once you're near because the shop is painted yellow. Seating is outside. There's tables right in front and some towards the other side as well. Definitely a place to stop by if you visit Bainbridge Island.

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent ice cream, excellent waffle cone. Came here on a warm day that was their second day of opening, and was pleasantly surprised at the fresh fluffy but also light creamy scoops. Scoops aren't overwhelmingly large (which I prefer). Recommend: + Strawberry: Loved this! No color dyes here, and if you're hoping for a lighter more refreshing ice cream, this would be my choice. Fairly smooth, with small delicate hints of strawberry (no big chunks). May be one of my favorite strawberry ice creams out there. + Cookies n Cream: love this as well! A bit heavier/creamier than the strawberry, with a few small sized chunks of cookies interspersed. A satisfying rich vanilla basic + Waffle cone: great complement and reminds me of a solid crispy thin waffle. Not too sweet or thick. If you can't decide between cup or cone, and the waffle bowl allows for the best of both worlds Other notes: - Select flavor selection right now - Free parking down the street

Yelp
Cute little ice cream shop. A little bit too pricey for my taste, but my babies wanted some, so I got them some. Not much cool areas to stand in line in the heat. I kind of felt bad for the worker. They enjoyed their ice cream and that's what mattered!

Yelp
I'm all for supporting small businesses, which this is, so writing less than stellar reviews is not my favorite thing to do, but the ice cream was just not great. We ordered ice cream here on Saturday and it was just okay. Not super creamy, very basic flavors, uninterested teens working there that seemed to want to be anywhere else but working. Welcome to reality; that's all of us. Maybe not ordering the homemade waffle cone is where I fell short, as they are probably good. Just a very "meh" experience overall.

Yelp
Awesome ice cream! High quality ingredients, Apparently just opened up; staff were super friendly. It looked like it was family owned!

Yelp
Best place to start your Bainbridge adventure! I got the coffee flavor and it was absolutely delicious (they make it with pegasus coffee, a local coffee shop). I will dream about this every night, haha. (Photo was a single scoop, already half eaten)

Yelp
Must be your first stop! The owner is really nice and friendly. They partner with local businesses!

L L.

Yelp
This place WAS awesome. It is permanently closed now. The new place is awful and is not Emma and Otto's.

Stan M.

Yelp
We stopped by a few weeks after the new owners took over. We advised them that they should make a blackberry flavored ice cream. The owner was very nice and said she'd consider it. We stopped by yesterday and, lo and behold, they had blackberry. I had the chocolate and it was outstanding and thick like taffy. The young women attending the small stand were friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Best ice cream I ever had. Salted caramel on the waffle cone. The combination was the best but I believe the explosion was in the home made waffle cone. If you are in Seattle-Bainbridge, check this small-owned business ice place out.

Yelp
Had mint chocolate chip, chocolate, and butter caramel pecan. Deliciousioso! You can taste real mint in the ice cream. Yum! The waffle cones have a hint of cinnamon that takes it over the top. The staff was really nice too.

Catherine W.

Yelp
The best home made ice cream , home made waffle cones ! Is the best ice cream experience you can ever have. Owned by a long time many generations bainbridge island family. Makes you feel home! The workers are always with the best happy spirit smiling and waving at you. Who can't resist this amazing inviting place? I totally recommend anyone to come try this very awesome experience!

Stefan A.

Yelp
Amazing service, excellent portions, and the malt ball in the bottom of the fresh baked waffle cone to prevent it from leaking was an nice touch. The ice cream was super creamy, and very flavorful. Lots of seating, great venue.

Yelp
The ice cream was super yummy and the homemade waffle cone was really tasty. You can tell this is "real" ice cream, and nothing artificial. The staff and owner were very friendly.

Rachel B.

Yelp
This is officially the best ice cream I have ever tasted! I had Salted Caramel in a waffle cone. It was out of this world creamy and the waffle cone tasted like it had just come out of the oven. I love the vibe of the seating area too. It would be a great place to sit and listen to live music in summer. It's a great location in Winslow, not far from the ferry. This is my son's favorite ice cream place. The portion size is very generous!

Esther M.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this hidden place and it was no disappointment. We were greeted by who I assume were the owners and they were lovely. We tried the coffee, chocolate brownie and salted Carmel. They were all delicious but the salted Carmel was amazing!! It is the best salted Carmel I have ever had. The waffle cone was also delicious. It was not fresh as they don't regularly open on Monday's but the man did informs us before hand and it was still delicious so I can only imagine that it would taste even more delicious when they are fresh!!

Joshua N.

Yelp
Let me tell you, this ice cream was INCREDIBLE... would eat again, yelp is telling me that I need to add more words, so let me add that this ice cream... it was good

Anon ..

Yelp
Super yummy ice cream! We tried both mora and emma and ottos and my personal preference was emma and ottos! Very creamy and smooth. Great flavor as well! We tried the salted caramel and coffee

Grace C.

Yelp
Super cute ice cream stand at the end of the main street. The ice cream and waffle cones are delicious. They have lots of outdoor seating which is a bonus!

Timothy M.

Yelp
Super delicious ice cream. Incredibly friendly people. Live music when we stopped by. Will certainly return. (Fyi, similar value to Mora down the road if comparing cost of proportions)

Will H.

Yelp
The serving size was MINISCULE compared to that of a normal ice cream shop. Significantly overpriced for the lack of flavors and minimal quantity. Recommend Mora instead: just down the street and way better!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Tried right after opening, was given a great recommendation to combine berry and vanilla and loved every bite! A must try!

C. W.

Yelp
literally THE best ice cream & waffle cones i've ever ingested in my 25 years of existence. a new must whenever i visit the island!
